During these crazy times where the economy is pretty much in the can (but it's lifting), people are negative about the weight of bills and having to work 50+hrs a week. All it takes is a home cooked meal to put a smile back on someone's face. Food holds a huge importance, I cannot even imagine not enjoying a meal and savoring every bite from start to finish, let alone sitting at my table without any food to accompany the grumble of my stomach. The Humanitarian Service Project is here for the people, without questions or obligations they are looking out for those in need and those willing to help out in a compassionate way. Not only are the staff extremely warm and welcoming, but are pleased and excited that there is still some good in the world and want to help someone out. Down or not down. For the Holiday Meals Program, you sign up to make and deliver meals on a monthly basis to a person in the community. What you make is basically up to you and your client. For me, because it's just me and I love cooking I took up two folks and decided to go all out. As if they could expect less, it's bigger and better in the land of Morgantown. Anyhoo, I spent a full day of cooking food I haven't cooked in ages (my house smells of country fried chicken...and I don't eat meat : )....) I placed together a full meal from salad starters to a light pumpkin bread dessert for both of the people I cooked for and delivered the goods with a generous smile. Walking away with an incredible appreciation for people and the heartfelt conversations you can take away from someone in the matter of 20 minutes to 2 hours, knowing it's all over the acceptance of food. From my table to yours, many thanks to the Humanitarian Service Project for creating this program. I cannot wait for this month....and know that I will be cooking for these two lovely people outside of the obligations of the project.

Second email said wait 5-7 days and respond with dogs you're interested in, which I did. Never heard back. Ended up going to a local rescue and adopted a senior companion with special needs to add to the family. Our last rescue we had for over 11 years and we kept in touch with not only his rescue (yearly with donations and events), but with the actual person who rescued him. We are sorry ARF turned out to be such a disappointment with no communication after application approval. But nonetheless, it worked out for us and the rescue we rescued from. I was warned in the therapy dog community not to attempt to adopt from them and they were correct. Hate to leave a bad review since it's all volunteers, but simple communication goes a long way when there are a lot of pups waiting for forever homes out there.

They have been dismissive, won't transfer me to the correct person or schedule an appointment to speak with a board member on why I can't receive a written response with detailed explanation on how we can't go further, Tonya constantly kept saying this was pending litigation & didn't ask any questions on the documents sent to her that showed that I have a large sum of money coming my way that will help me pay my rent from that point on, this grant is for emergencies & everything I sent was never looked at or questioned on the severity of the emergency

If you do know how to do these things, you should volunteer because they would love you. We had a great experience today. They have volunteers that are experienced that will teach you the way. They are very friendly and funny. You will work hard. We put up drywall, but the options of things you may do are endless (besides a few items like roofing). You volunteer for a full day, get a lunch break and a break in the morning. Be prepared to use a portapotty. Also be prepared to build a home or make modifications to a home for a person who really needs it. Worth it.
