UPDATE (9/24/2024): I had a good chat with the owner and it sounds like changes are being made to…read moreaddress the phone, tech, and work culture issues. The situation was described to me as the perfect storm. I'm glad to hear that my unfortunate experience might help others after helping to identify things that weren't working. Again, my dogs were well-cared for thankfully. ORIGINAL POST: Poor service, poor communication, and concerning practices. *This was my experience as a first (and last) time customer. My dogs seemed ok but I was not impressed.* NOTES: - Only one person is vaguely trained in the computer system (new as of 9/2024) - I was almost charged double because of the lack of system training. - The Sunday pick-up window ends BEFORE 11am. - There is no way to contact anyone outside of "business hours". - The manager does not have access to all dogs (from how it sounded. I was told upon pickup that the manager conveniently came back from out of town at the exact same time and didn't have keys on her). PRO - accepts last minute reservations - reasonably priced (if not charged twice) MY EXPERIENCE I had a last-minute trip come up, so I was grateful that I could get my dogs into boarding from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. I received a call the day before drop-off to confirm our reservation. Check-in was when things began going downhill. Apparently there is a new computer system, so my dogs were not on the same invoice and I was informed that my card would need to be run twice to make sure both invoices received payment. Slightly inconvenient but whatever. Until I was informed that I would be charged for 2 dogs and 2 nights twice, doubling my payment. It took 3 people explaining that ($43+$39) for 2 nights charged twice was $300+, not $175 total. We had to completely redo the reservation before everything was settled. The worst part of this experience was the pickup. I was told to pick up between 10-11am. I hit traffic on my drive and pulled into the empty lot at exactly 11am. I got out of my car after rearranging luggage at 11:01am. I checked all doors to find them locked with no one inside or on the property and proceeded to call the website number to leave 3 separate messages at 11:03, 11:05, and 11:09am. THERE IS NO AFTER HOURS LINE AVAILABLE. The only person I could find on the property was a handyman who proceeded to call the manager. When the manager arrived around 11:15am, I was told that everyone is on break and no one would be back for a few hours (3pm was the earliest time when people would be back in the office based on what the manager told me), so I had to come back at 5pm. According to the manager it was my responsibility to call and ask them to stay "late" even though I was not told that this was the case during check-in. When the manager asked which dogs I was picking up, she immediately responded with, "Yeah, I don't have the keys to their kennel." I have boarded my dogs in Indiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, California, and Nevada. I have never been told that it has been my responsibility to make sure that I call to make sure workers are available during "open hours". Nor have I been told that the manager didn't have access to my dogs. That concerns me when my dogs have no one with them and the two people I could find don't have access to them. I understand that I arrived at the end of the pick-up window. I was more disappointed by the fact that I had informed them of my pick-up time, did not receive a call about changing that time, and there was no humanly way possible for the entire place to be locked up and vacated by 11am while staying open during posted hours.

I get a phone call saying my dog has a small cut on her head and that everything's fine. I go pick her up and find a large laceration on her head and once I got home I found a puncture wound on her side that my vet confirmed went down to the muscle tissue. The Dogtopia manager told me that she did not clean the wounds she used a non-antibacterial non-scented baby wipe and applied ointment. This is going to trap bacteria in and a wound this deep can easily get infected especially in an environment with lots of dogs. Their staff "doesn't know what happened". They will not share any of the surveillance footage. They only offered to pay the vet bill once I threatened to take legal action if they didn't. I have worked at dog daycare's prior and we had never sent a dog home with injuries like that and no idea how they happened and no explanation. They tried to tell me that she hit her head at first and it was a small cut and upon inspecting her it is a large laceration all the way through the skin and I discovered the puncture wound because she was licking it once she got home and that goes down to the muscle. It blows my mind that they downplay it so much and will not share their surveillance video. They are clearly not watching them/keeping rooms under control. I would never feel comfortable allowing them to watch my dog ever again, they are not taking safety as a priority. If you're understaffed you need to stop taking in dogs at a certain point so that staff members can actually maintain a supervised and controlled environment. My vet said either staples or stitches so I went with staples because they are a little over $300 versus $900 for stitches. It took me threatening my legal team reaching out to them for them to even refund the cost of a half-day charge when she was there for two hours before I picked her up because of injury. I had to push even more to get them to pay the vet bill eventually. The only reason I had my dog there is because I was hit by an SUV and was physically unable to take my dog to burn energy as she is just over one year old. So now not only am I trying to heal my broken wrist and fractured knee, but I am also tending to the staples on her head and her ribs, antibiotics, pain medication, and anxiety medication. My dog is so playful and sweet, absolutely loves people and absolutely loves other dogs. It's going to absolutely crush me if I see her confidence or friendliness extinguished in any way from this experience. Update in regards to their reply: they have my email address have not sent me any solid explanation as to what happened still. I have so many doctors appointments, phone calls with my lawyer, and I am trying to rest ice and elevate myself and now take care of my dog on top of all that. I don't have the time to sit on the phone with you while you tell me that you don't have an explanation, in different words nine times over. Reply to my email when you figure it out and if you can't figure out what happened, shame on you. You shouldn't be running a dog care business.

However, he ADORES other dogs, and his favorite thing in the whole world is being around them and playing with them. It's hard to travel with Benji and he'd struggle if I left him with a dogsitter, so when I had to leave for a weekend recently I decided to try boarding him. Since K9-Playtime includes daycare (a full day of socializing and playing with the other dogs) in their boarding package, they definitely seemed like the best option for Benji, but I was still nervous about how he'd do. The staff at K9-Playtime were super communicative, helpful, and lovely! They asked lots of great questions about Benji's behaviors in different situations to see if daycare and boarding would work for him. I brought him in for a couple partial days of daycare to test things out, and the staff were awesome with Benji and he loved it there! They said he was great with all the dogs and staff members and gave him the OK for boarding. The whole weekend I was waiting for a call saying that he was anxious and needed to be picked up early, but I was so surprised and relieved that Benji spent the whole weekend at K9-Playtime with no issues and actually had a really fun time!! He was happy and exhausted from playing when I picked him up, and honestly seemed sad to leave all his new friends! He just played with the other dogs all day long while he was there, with breaks for meals and snacks, and by bedtime he was too worn out to be anxious (or conscious lmao). They posted a picture on their social media that includes him, and he just has the biggest goofiest grin on his face as he's running around with the other dogs! I definitely recommend checking out K9-Playtime if your dog is anything like mine! It's so nice to have them as an option for Benji if I need to work a long day or travel. Great experience with them for both me and my dog!

There's an indoor and outdoor area which is nice so the facility can be flexible based on weather where the dogs play. This is not the frills, nap time required kind of vibe. It's an unassuming, barebones facility full of employees who just love dogs and dogs who love dogs. This was what worked for my pup- he doesn't care if it looks pretty to humans- he cares (and I care) how he's treated. And he was treated very well and would be jumping around in the parking lot as we would walk up because he was so excited. And the staff would be excited to see him as well. The cost is in line with other daycares in the area - buying a package will help the per day cost. For my pup - totally worth it.

I went in today for an orientation and a walk through at about 10AM. IMO, there were way too many dogs in each area. The dog rooms are small and dimly lit, and all connected, so the atmosphere is very loud. I was shocked at how many large dogs were in such a small area. As we walked through with the staff, a fight broke out between two dogs. Others joined in because there was no where to go. One staff in the room for about 20-25 large dogs. No wonder. There is simply not enough room for the number and size of dogs in that space. I would never leave my dog there.
