Grand daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted this morning. Oral surgeon sent scripts to Walgreens. Walgreens said they would be ready by 12:10. We got there at 12:45. The pharmacist said it would be 5 or 10 minutes more. In the meantime of waiting, they closed for lunch at 1:30 and were closed until 2 pm! Pharmacists don't seem to have any sympathy to hurting people's frustrations lady ne t to me was telling pharmacist that she couldn't wait another 20 minutes and her husband couldn't take other products due to a bleeding ulcer. I guess I was supposed to drive to Battle Creek to drop grand daughter off and then come back to get her s ripts! No sympathy out of these so-called health care workers! read more

The pharmacy takes forever, seems like they do not have enough staff to remain efficient. I waited in the drive through line for a long time and would've choose to go anywhere else of that meant I didn't wait and waste time for so long. Great staff just often not enough of them. I find the people really friendly and polite and the one staff member (beard and long hair) remember me and is always very kind and polite. There's also a guy in the pharmacy who is just great--very kind and reassuring. There are many great people here, they might just need a few more. read more

1. There is a weasely looking dude with longer hair that works the counter who is almost always rude. 2. Don't go there past 8pm because they lock up the carts. Apparently, there is a huge problem with cart theft in south Portage a couple doors down from the Portage Police station. They refused to unlock them even though I was trying to buy 3 12-pack cases soda, laundry detergent and a giant bag of ice. This was AFTER I asked politely and stated I was handicapped. Although, it's pretty obvious as I was and will permanently, walk with a cane. They offered no other help. I suspect part of the issue was the age and morbid obesity of the employees. 3. Their pharmacy is an absolute $#it show. Don't ever try to get 7 pills of norco after a surgery from here without expecting to get nasty looks and rude comments as if you're a drug addict. I only go here if I'm absolutely desperate or they have something I want that is cheaper than anywhere else (a true rarity). read more

Vaccination not convenient. Clearly something like this depends heavily on your expectations. In my situation it took almost 45 minutes with the appointment. I felt I did my part by showing up 15 min early. I still needed to stand in a long line as well as wait an additional 10 min after I completed the paperwork. I was visiting from out of state and very distressed because I did not know the MI pharmaceutical laws and I was having trouble getting my prescription filled. The pharmacist was extraordinarily unsympathetic and rude. She actually hung up on me while I was still speaking. I cried after this phone call. Walgreen's lost a loyal customer that day. read more

Update: this is a systemic problem for several Walgreens around Michigan including Shaver Rd, Gull Road, W.Main/Drake, and Three Rivers. All have closed early many times. W.Main & Drake closed at 3pm recently. They are still accepting prescriptions and refills so customers have no idea they will be closed when they come to pick up their meds. What to heck is wrong with your pharmacist staffing at the Walgreens at Shaver/Centre in Portage Michigan???!!! They are closed tonight and won't reopen until 1030pm and "sorry for any inconvenience". This is suppose to be a 24 hour pharmacy. It's not inconvenience- its people's MEDICATIONS! And I called in an Rx this afternoon and there was NO indication that this pharmacy would be closed. I was told that I could pick up at 8pm this evening. You run PHARMACIES which people depend on for their medication. How can your staffing be so poorly scheduled that it is closed but still be accepting refill orders?? We tend to use Walgreen's as (a) a pharmacy for procuring OTC Allegra D 24 hrs. for our seasonal allergies and as (b) a source for awfully cheap AA and AAA store brand batteries. We use this particular Walgreen's in Portage because the store and pharmacy are open 24 hrs./day, which is convenient for us because our hours are often topsy-turvy. And we like the BOGO deals on batteries that seem to be held every other week. And, now that I think about it, (c) we get our annual flu shots at this Walgreen's too. And (d) we buy occasional bottles of vitamins when they too are advertised as BOGO. But we don't fill prescriptions there, we don't buy candy or ice cream or greeting cards or perfumes there, and we don't bother with the photo department. We don't take the free Gazettes when they are running a promotional on that deceased newspaper. We don't buy make up or toys or stuffed animals or diapers there. We are always entertained by the ever changing center aisle which is updated for whatever holiday is near (e.g., the shelves were mostly empty today because all of the heavily discounted Valentine's Day paraphernalia that was leftover was gone). I think we bought a couple of strings of heavily discounted LED Christmas lights there once, in a panic, because no one else had purple LED lights. But Walgreen's did. The staff are decent but they generally leave us alone. My girl and I probably present as a couple on a mission when we walk in, so they pleasantly take our money and ask if we found what we were looking for, etc. I can't think of ever having had a bad interaction with a salesperson. We have a Walgreen's Card so that helps getting the BOGO deals on vitamins and batteries. read more

Terrible service. Every time I go to pick up prescriptions there is always a hiccup. The staff don't care about your prescriptions or your time. The 20-25 minute wait usually amounts to a hour. One time we picked up the script and they gave us the wrong one. Another time had to pick up a new script for my daughter- six calls later that finally got sorted out. This pharmacy is horrible. read more

They were timely with my prescription. There's always an issue with the promo I present them every year for the past 8 years. The lady that checked me out was not at all friendly, seemed annoyed she was helping me. It might be time I found a new pharmacy besides walgreens. Reading through the reviews I've realized most are concerning the pharmacy. I've been coming to this portage location for a year now. I use the pharmacy every month and have never had any complications. On the contrary, Sue the pharmacist was so helpful assisting me when my insurance wouldn't cover one of my meds. She spent about 15 minutes on the phone trying to reach my doctor for a back up medication. She was persistent, I appreciated and still appreciate her and her services so much! read more

We use this Walgreen exclusively not only because it is convenient for us but because they are always friendly and seem to care about the place; especially in the pharmacy. We use an ExpressPay option which makes it really easy to pick up your prescriptions. They typically will have something that you "need" on sale, so while you're waiting for the pharmacy to complete your order, you have a few minutes to pick up that candy bar or 12 pack of pop you had to have. read more

This is a very nice Walgreens in a good location it's really easy to get in and out of and the staff seems to be extra friendly. I find that I'm drawn to this store rather than spending the minimum 20 minutes for a Meijer / Walmart visit. The Rite Aide on Centre/Oakland is technically closer for me, but I always drive the extra mile for the ice brightly lit parking lot with a friendly staff. read more

Nice Walgreens in a decent part of town. Easy access to the cross streets and thankfully well stocked. Things like Tylenol Cold and infants cold medicine are things I see out at other locations and even places like Rite Aid and Target. The wife loves this location for one reason only, they still carry her hair product that has a shortened life thanks to rebranding / packaging that she says somehow changed the 'formula'. This Walgreens is extremely slow and unreliable. Several times I have called in to confirm a prescription was ready and was told it was ready, only to show up and be told it was not ready. I also scheduled my flu shot in the late evening when it would not be busy, only to wait an extra HALF HOUR while staff seemed busy doing anything else. Go to CVS read more

If you want a prescription filled here you better be okay with waiting. Every time I come here there's a long line because something got messed up. Whether they can't find it or don't have the medications to fill it or one of many other problems. Today, my prescription was one of the problems. After waiting in line while they tried to figure out if they had a medication in stock for 10 minutes, I tried to get my medication. I was picking up a pain medication for my dog who had his spleen removed that day. It should have been ready at least 45 minutes prior. It was not ready and the automated message telling me their was a problem with it conveniently never got sent. My dog is currently at home and cannot lay down because he is in pain. I'm currently sitting here waiting for them to get shit together, which obviously is not happening any time soon. I will be finding a new pharmacy. read more

Every time I go to pick up a prescription, there is an excuse given why it's not properly filled or why it's not ready. I AN DONE WITH THIS STORE. Last week I went to pick up my prescriptions that I had called ahead for. I waited in line for 10 minutes and when I got to the counter, they were not in the bin. I called five days before and she told me they were restocked because it was over 10 days in the bin. I had my phone record to show it was five days. I had to wait another 20 minutes for refill. Today I went to get a prescription and they only had a partial refill (one week) because they ran out of stock. Another time I was told they would contact my physician for refill. I got there and no prescription. I had to call my physician. The lady at the counter told me the call center in FL told me they would call my physician but that the call center does not have correct information. My answer well either have an accurate call center or don't have one. More waiting and returning. I will NEVER set foot in this store again. The pharmacy is totally disorganized. The right hand doesn't know what the left Jane is doing. Staff is not friendly. It is inevitable that they do not have my prescriptions right. They are now officially transferred. In the two years I've lived in Kalamazoo almost every time I go to this pharmacy I am treated with the utmost disrespect and rudeness! Once by a older white woman but especially by one Hispanic gentleman EVERY TIME! My wife as well! Every time I get him at the window he is rude and does not have good people skills! And there is just no reason for it! A few times they couldn't figure out how to bill our insurance properly and he actually tried to argue with us about it only to later have another employee get it right. My wife WORKS in insurance and she had to explain it to him while he just walked away rudely. My wife came home in tears because she had just had our baby and was in pain and could not get her meds because he refused to process the order right. That incident was quite a while ago but my latest rude experience from this person persuaded me to finally speak out. I have enough to deal with without some jerk at a drive through being condescending, interrupting me and telling me I should bring my kids inside (one with Autism) and wait for an hour because of their mistake! I put him in his place but I shouldn't have had to. The look on the poor girl's face who originally was trying to process my order said it all as this guy was being rude. I could have understood if he had some manners about him but he was rude! This person should not be working in a customer service job. My family has a lot of prescriptions and I think it's time to take our business to Meijer for good this time! I'm a "turn the other cheek" kind of person but when you work in customer service (as I have) you NEED to know how to treat people with respect!
