I placed an order for pick up. The app said all products were available. Used my gift card, 20% off. Caught some great sale items. Order was confirmed and I threw the gift card away. In the middle of the night, my order was cancelled. So I placed the order again (now missing the sales and coupon and gift card) and boom! My order was cancelled AGAIN! No explanation of why it was cancelled but I'm not happy with this. Missing some great deals because of their system! And who knows if I'll get my $50 gift card refunded. read more

I believe I encountered racism at your Portage location when my granddaughter and I inquired about the Black Opium that was on sale yesterday. Two sales clerks were unaware of the promotion, while another informed us that they were completely out of stock. When I asked if there was a tester available, she replied that someone had stolen it. I then asked about a travel size, to which she said they had nothing. However, when I walked back to catch up with my granddaughter, I noticed that there were testers available in larger sizes. I feel that Ulta should implement implicit bias training for all staff and ensure that employees are well-informed about current sales promotions. read more

Because I did not want to give my phone number the cashier could not log on to the cash register. Really? She kept insisting she needed a phone number. I said I was not giving a phone number. I buy a lot at Ulta basically due to the fact it is one stop store for all things beauty related. The store in Southland Mall is quite large and can seem overwhelming but once you get the layout of the land, it's easy to get around and find items. They always have such a big selection. When I first walk in I am instantly greeted by someone and always complimented on my make up, which makes me feel simply fabulous! They have an amazing section for the ladies and gentlemen to show you tips and tricks for your make up, brows, face cleaning and more! In the back is a hair salon. I haven't had the pleasure of using it yet but I've heard very good things ! I love the colour pop section! One of my favorites! Aside from many others they carry! They have everything from make up, purfume, facial cleansers, hairdryers, straighteners, every beauty product your little heart desires. They even have my favorite shampoo !! I did quite a bit of traveling this summer, some of it was for really happy occasions and some not so much. I do not DO make-up, I've never had much dexterity and try as I might I always feel like I look like I've taken a sharpie to my face. I decided to be brave with my dress choices to both a wedding and anniversary party, there were many colors to choose from on these dresses, but something stuck with me when it came to gold, AT FIRST. This lovely woman in a white coat, who had clearly mastered the skill of ALWAYS looking GREAT, whisked me about trying different shades of a variety of colors, some I am ashamed to say I didn't even know existed but looked amazing on me. I showed her the dresses and she had even more ideas, but then I decided to be brave and take a chance and after a brief look at a Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in gold and how it complimented the look, I didn't even know I was trying to achieve. I asked her what did she think of rose gold. The expression this woman made, made me feel like a genius, and with wings, she flew found the shade and fawned over it for a moment, enough to get my confidence to a level where I thought - hey maybe I can do this. In the end, I made my partner do it because he IS the artist between us two and his lines are always so complimentary on me, but I looked like a precious fairy all of Summer and well into the Fall in this beautiful shade. That wasn't without the help of Alison, of course, my eye brown artiste. This lady brings her amazing emotional intelligence and positivity to every monthly meeting we have, and not only do I leave with brows on-point, but I also have a renewed confidence, some new trick or tip to upkeep them myself and some kind words to take me through to my next appointment. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because I specifically went here to learn about new make up products and invest in my face and cosmetic needs and they kind of ignored me at first. I was there today and bought some dermalogica moisturizer for 45.58. I came home and ordered it from Amazon for 24.49 with Prime free shipping. Will return it tomorrow. I got a cut and color a few years ago, the next day I clipped off some hair that didn't look good. So what do I do but go back two years later and the same problem and the color didn't last long. I think I won't be doing that again. I gave it two stars instead of one because they have some items that are more in line with the price it should be. read more

A go-to store for all things beauty: hair care, skin care, makeup, fragrances, etc. I have been using Ulta brand cosmetics for years, especially the automatic eye liner which I love and own in many colors. On my most recent visit, I went in looking for a certain type of concealer. I started browsing for myself, and was a little overwhelmed with where to find things, and whether or not I should be looking in the 'drug store' section or in the 'nice section'. I approached an associate and she made a great recommendation at a good price, and helped me choose the right shade. I've been a rewards member here for years and I don't recall earning any discounts except for a small free item on my birthday. read more

My experiences at this Ulta have been nothing but deplorable. The two times I stepped foot in this store I needed help to find a few items and neither time did I receive any. The first time I went in looking for a manicure kit and some nail polish. I had to wander around the store, feeling lost and unsure as to whether I found the entire stock of nail products. I will admit that on this day it was busy with a line at the cash register, but never did I hear an associate walking the floor offering help to ANY of the customers shopping. I also needed a few random hair products and as I was cluelessly looking at the giant selection and variety by their salon, I'm sure looking lost, NO ONE asked if I needed help or if I had any questions. I then had to take up time checking out to have my questions answered. The second time was even worse. A friend and I went in looking for color treatment shampoo for the new hair color I recently had done. I figured this was the place that I would find a good product and be able to ask people the questions I had. Again, no one asked if we needed help, no one was walking the floor offering answers and when we did find an associate we were treated with some of the worst disrespect I have ever gotten in a store. A woman came out of the doors by the salon and I asked if she could help us, and she gave us the worst attitude, telling us she could help after she put a dirty washcloth someplace else and made it quite clear we were inconveniencing her. At this point I was tired of the poor service and overwhelming amount of products and told the women never mind. As we were walking out the same associate attempted to help us but there was no way I was going to buy anything there nor will I ever. The poor customer service and lack of assistance to patrons in this store is why I gave it one star. For a company that has such a specific niche it is important to have people helping customers and I have never had a positive experience. read more

I use Benefit Brow every 5-6 weeks. I made an appointment for this past Saturday 5-5-18, as weekends are always very busy. During the week I can usually walk in and possibly wait at the most 30 minutes. This last visit at the Westnedge store Kate did my brows, and an exceptional she did! The prep of Benefit Brow prior to wax, for some reason, reduces the sting of waxing. Kate did my brows this trip, and great service as always, I purchased a great product she used on me, I love that they touch up your makeup so you never leave looking half done. Great eyebrows can make all the difference in the world to your look, great brows, mascara, and lip gloss, you can look wonderful without doing your full face. read more

Recently I had a color done at the Portage MI salon and was shocked at the finished product and absolutely horrified when I received the bill. There is no transparency about estimated cost as they promote extra procedures you need done that really are of no value. Basically, she spent the entire time trying to convince me of her marvelous color skills and seriously the end result was terrible. Ladies, watch out! She charged me $230 for color, no cut. I was in Portage visiting a friend and needed to go to Ulta, so we went here. The Ulta where I live isn't the best either, but I am in absolute awe by how rude and stuck up the employees were. Now before I even started really shopping, I was just walking around looking for a specific aisle when I overheard a conversation. Two girls were wandering around looking for something and finally one of the employees asked "are you actually looking for anything or just walking around?" One of the girls said, "Oh we are looking for the ABH Modern Renaissance palette" The employee immediately scoffed and said "well, you should have called ahead because we are sold out." Then walked away. So the girls left and the very SECOND they walked out the door the employee walked over to another and said "Are you kidding me? How stupid can you be? You actually think we have the most wanted palette right now? Idiots." They said this RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I was shocked. I finally just grabbed my items and went to the counter to purchase them with my friend and the rudeness just didn't stop. Dirty looks were given to us as well as sighs of annoyance for even having to check us out. Never shop at this Ulta if you plan on having a decent shopping experience. read more

I came here to have my makeup done for my wedding reception. Melissa, the esthetician, did my full makeup and she did an AMAZING job. She was friendly and conscientious, she asked if I had any particular way that I wanted it done. I don't use a lot of makeup regularly so it's not really my area of expertise. I showed her my dress and she went from there, stopping along the way to make sure I was comfortable with the colors she was choosing. The price was reasonable as well. I'd never worn fake eyelashes but I'm glad she recommended them because they made my eyes pop. Of course everyone at the reception told me how beautiful I was but my sister and my mother, who see me nearly everyday were blown away and I knew that everyone really meant it. I hope every bride feels as confident as I did on their own wedding day and my confidence was higher because of Melissa and the great job she did. I live about 2.5 hours away from Kalamazoo but I wish I lived closer so I could come here more often and have Melissa teach me. read more

I was completely in AWE over my experience today. The person representing Lancôme was so beautiful. Seemed like a really nice lady. I came in for products to contour. After I had told her the first item I was looking at, she scoffed and said it wasn't what I was looking for. I needed something for everyday wear. So I listened to her opinion. Things I liked, she had something terrible to say about it. It made me feel so incompetent. I may not come in to Ulta, sporting my best makeup ever... But really? I've gone through hundreds of reviews of these products. I know what the major concerns are for the products. She convinces me to leave with the ONE product that I said I didn't want. I knew I could return it, but I felt so pressured into buying what she suggested. At that point, she had made me sound like a complete idiot. I get home. ITS EXACTLY WHAT I DIDNT WANT. Why do you guys hire such moody girls? I'm a really nice customer. I've been in sales before. I am the easiest customer to deal with. I don't even want to get into my other visits. If I even mention a brand that is Sephora exclusive, or God forbid I say S E P H O R A .... I get treat like I am 'less than'. Is this part of the training? I've had another lady walk away from, after I said Sephora. Yes... you have competition. Get over it. Officially done shopping at this store.
