Getting rid of the QR code or kiosk to reserve your place in line is my issue for the pharmacy counter. If you can't eradicate it at least improve the signage when you go into the store so people don't walk around without checking in first. The system is confusing and it highlights that there is a staffing problem. One person is working the counter with the pharmacist helping while someone else does immunizations. Between that and waiting for routine prescriptions, it makes me secure in my switch to CVS for all prescriptions. I live close by and needed allergy medicine behind the counter thus the 15 minutes and counting wait. It's horrendous customer service. read more

I have moved away from using them for anything but emergencies. But I have to modify my review to warn people to always check labels on medications. They put a wrong label on my child's new medication, we got lucky that nurse at doctor's office noticed the mistake after I reached out with questions. The nurse said that they will call the pharmacy so they make a note of that mistake, but I doubt it will have any impact. My experience with the Walgreens on Chicago Ave has consistently been horrible, frustrating with conflicting messages, delays and pharmacists typically sounding annoyed when I've tried to navigate getting a simple prescription. I don't know if their lack of professionalism rises to the level of Pharmacy Negligence or perhaps even Malpractice. I'm done with them. 95% of the time over the past few years I've used Sam's Club on Main Street and they've been wonderful...now it'll be 100% of the time. At 2.27pm today, I picked up my online order. The register had a $6 difference from my online total. When I asked the clerk about it, he called for the manager. The manager on duty, Marii (spelling?) was obtuse and condescending. When I asked about the discrepancy between their register total and my online total, he could not readily answer my question. It took three attempts for him to answer. As I walked out the door, he thanked me for "being rude to him" in front of everyone at the registers. Extremely rude pharmacist. Called today, 2/6/25 in the morning if you're wondering who I'm talking about. Listen lady, if you're having a bad day, don't put it on the customers. Either she was being rude or just stupid and didn't know the protocol to switch a retail rx to mail order. Literally the back of my rx card has a pharmacist number- a NUMBER FOR A PHARMACIST. Not a customer calling the mail order company to try to transfer. The protocol, as I've been told by 2 different people from the mail order company is that the retail company pharmacist (Walgreens) is to call in the rx to have it transferred to mail order. They've never heard of a pharmacist who didn't do it. Now, the Walgreens rude woman told me she was not going to call because then she would have to be on hold forever and that she didn't do that. Great. So me, the customer had to sort it out and go all the way back to my doctor to submit another rx to the mail order company. So, you didn't want to waste your time, but I had to have mine wasted, for a timely rx that'll I now be missing my dosage for? Thanks for nothing. Get out of pharmacy if you can't handle the stress. I know it sucks, but you became one so deal with the customer service portion. Don't be a jerk. So glad I won't have to come to this Walgreens anymore for rx's. COVID: Previous to covid that had great staffing and great service. Today, they are understaffed, the head pharmacist is unprofessional as she hides all day and won't take calls. I was on an odyssey to get a PCR test for covid-19. This should be difficult, however, every time I went on the Walgreen's website to set up a test appt, I was referred to a store that is over 20 miles from home (glitch in the software apparently), I called the Walgreen's 800 number who were totally unhelpful and referred me back to online to schedule. I was sick. I was tired. I exasperated. I finally went in to Walgreen's at 635 Chicago Ave in Evanston. That's when Alex, (whose title I do not know) stepped up in the pharmacy. 1. He listened patiently to my frustrating story 2. He offered to help immediately 3. He quickly filled out my paperwork for an immediate appointment 4. He channeled me to the driveway where tests are taken 5. He was polite, smart, kind, efficient, & helpful and finally got me my test! Alex was a Godsend! Thank you Alex!!! In a world where it seem so many people are indifferent and not doing their assigned jobs, you are a breath of fresh air...helpful, supportive, gentle, focused and kind! I hope you read this. FYI- Albert is the store manager & Albert will lie when asked to co tact you by corporate and say he tried to call and couldn't get you. Thank goodness for Phone logs. Won't ever shop here again. Never had a reason to need a manager at this store in 18 years of shopping here. Today, I was sicker than a dog but have to work tonight. Went to get much needed cold medicine. Got to register to use FSA funds which I have sufficient. All I got were cold meds- but the guy at register who also claims to be a manager said he couldn't tell me what wasn't covered. I had already run my FSA card thru. I said I have to cancel as I didn't bring my debit card with. Marii said he voided transaction. I asked if we could try again but remove one item I thought the FSA might not approve. Ran card thru- still said I owed $14. I said - I have to void again as the FSA was only card I had and he claimed he couldn't tell me what item wasn't being covered. He tossed register receipts both time in trash. Before leaving I asked him if I could have the voided transactions in case the charges went thru. He said- we don't do that. I left store empty handed. Decided to use CVS but checked my FSA transactions- sure enough both alleged voided transactions went thru- totaling $85 and I left with nothing. Tried calling and went to store. Got nowhere, even while calling my FSA provider trying to tell them the transactions went thru. Marii's take was I was just supposed to "trust him" and leave the store with no proof of voided transactions. My FSA told me to try the pharmacy when I asked if manager was Marii- they looked at me and said No. They called a manager to back and from the getgo I knew I was going nowhere. He came out with Marii in tow and had a sloppy hat on, dirty sweats, name tag obscured with junk and was literally popping food into his mouth the entire time he was talking to me. The store was crowded- I was sick as a dog. I got nowhere. People like Marii and Damian rely on talking to you dismissively and putting up a wall and basically rely on you breaking down so they can just dismiss you as a complaining Karen. How do I ever shop at a store again that charges me $85 bucks for items I never received and gives me nothing to prove they voided my transactions. 18 years of shopping here and prescriptions. I'll never set foot in the place again unless some drastic measures are taken- namely firing crap managers. read more

I've always liked shopping here -- very good grocery selection for a Walgreens, and a wider array of quality products across the board. Very good pharmacy and for the most part a friendly staff. But I came to appreciate it even more after a distressing experience at another Walgreens's store, in North Evanston on Green Bay Road. Already a below average Walgreens when it comes to selection and cleanliness, this location also features less than friendly or responsible management. The store posts a sign telling patrons that they must wear masks to enter the store. But when I was standing in the checkout line, the young man behind me refused to wear a mask while talking forcefully on the phone (spraying droplets in the process. I asked to see management so I could find out why the store would allow this. The manager on duty was rude and almost belligerent. "We're not the police!" he said. "There's nothing we can do about it." I asked him directly: "This is a private businesses and you have standards and policies. Can you please enforce them for everyone's safety?" He then raised his voice and repeated, "We're not the police." I responded that people often come to a Walgreens for health reasons, meaning that their health may already be compromised, putting them at additional risk. He just said "We're not the police." I told him he'd lost my business and that I was planning to post a yelp review, and he shrugged his shoulders and turned away. Congrats this to the excellent and responsive service one can expect at the Walgreens at 635 Chicago Ave. in Evanston, where I found myself 30 minutes later to complete the shopping I abandoned at the north Evanston location. I asked someone at the checkout counter, what was this store's policy about that? The young woman there thoughtfully and warmly explained that yes, this was store policy, but it was a very challenging one to enforce and that she and other people who worked there had received a lot of verbal abuse and threats for attempting to enforce it. She said they also offer unmasked customers a mask and do their best to keep people healthy. And she apologized for the conduct of the management of the other store and assured me that this was not how Walgreens employees should act and that she hoped I could feel safe and comfortable in this location. Class act all around. I can appreciate the stress that the north Evanston manager might feel, but there's no excuse for being rude and dismissive, especially during a health crisis in a store geared largely towards people's health. The woman working checkout at the south Evanston store offered a clinic on smart, responsive and productive management skills -- the man working in North Evanston could learn a few things from her, and she deserves the leadership position and accompanying paycheck that he clearly does not. read more

Got the notification last Thursday that my meds is ready for pick up. So I went to pick up the meds today , Sunday ,at Walgreens Pharmacy . Guess what it's not ready. Pharmacist told me to wait ten minutes and it will be ready. I've been standing and walking around for almost an hour so I decided to line up so I could follow up on it. My turn came and I told the pharmacy tech that I'm waiting for the meds. She ask me to wait because she has to do something first and came back after a few minutes. Then I told her the name of the meds and my info. She went and got the meds which been sitting there for a while. Nobody notified me or paged me that it's been ready and I could be waiting and waiting forever if I didn't asked them. Their pharmacy service is really bad and the only reason I go there is because it's nearby. Besides that I have no business going there. read more

The service here always makes me feel uncomfortable. First of all, they don't hold any of the products I need as a woman of color and I always feel like I'm being watched. I was on hold for 30 minutes. The automated system put me there when I requested the pharmacy. 30 minutes with no one answering the phone. Since this seemed too crazy to be real for a pharmacy, I hung up and called again, assuming there had been a phone system error. Nope. Second call now going on 15 minutes. I have the same annoying hold music on speakerphone. But I need an answer to a question from THIS pharmacy. If you haven't chosen a pharmacy yet, don't choose this one. Am there 2/3 times per month. Pharmacy line is always long, anywhere from 5 to 15 people. Have tried drive through and it's not much better. Today after waiting for 10' behind a car, they suddenly posted a sign that that due to technical issues, it was closed (I'll never know whether it was true or just an excuse as they were busy). Not to mention that it took them a whole week to fill my prescription. Not sure if it's related to this specific store but I'll give CVS a try given how bad it is here. read more

This Walgreens has achieved that by an innovative roof design that maximizes the square footage exposed for solar electrical generation, LEED "Platinum" level architectural and systems design amenities, and two vertical, wind turbines spinning in the parking lot. That roof design and housing for the systems makes for a building that appears to be 3-stories tall. But inside, it's essentially a single-story Walgreens store. The upper floor systems are visible through a large glass wall. The geo-thermal systems in the deep basement are not visible to regular patrons. Previous displaced tenants of the former property have been accommodated in the plaza this large store anchors. For all the times I've walked into Walgreens, this is the 1st time I'm leaving a review. I'd rate most of my experiences to a solid "meh" until today!! I just met the most amazing Maria! I was mumbling to myself about sparking water. She overheard me and walked me to where it was. I'm pretty sure that she was on a break. It's hot out. I'm thirsty. Having some water is like winning the lotto. I walk up to the register in a long line and guess who is running to open another register?! Maria! She notices a Nick in a water bottle I was purchasing for my niece. It was the last one. She asked for me .. without me asking!.. if I could get a discount. I did! And then to finish it all off .. she leaves me with a tip.. make your Walgreens purchases online and then schedule for pick-up. Chances are high on cost savings... there you have it.
