As soon as my cousin and I walked in, we were greeted politely by the employees at the front. However, once we made our way into the store, the experience completely changed. A blonde, white woman who appeared to be a manager (this was around 4:30-5:00 p.m.) repeatedly stared at us as we walked through different aisles. At one point, I stopped to smell a body mist. I looked up and noticed two employees watching my cousin and me. When I made eye contact, they continued to watch us. I then noticed another employee on the other side of the aisle, stocking merchandise while also keeping an eye on us. Altogether, there were three employees two Black women and one white woman who seemed to be monitoring us throughout our visit. To make matters worse, we were asked if we needed help every few minutes. While I understand that customer service is part of the job, the constant attention, combined with being watched throughout the store, made it feel like we were being profiled rather than assisted. I am not a thief. I am a paying customer who came in to shop like everyone else. Being made to feel suspicious simply for browsing was disrespectful and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this experience confirmed why I had not returned to this location in two years. I will not be shopping at this Ulta again, and based on this experience, I have no interest in visiting any Ulta location in the future.
