We visit this Walgreens just for its pharmacy nowadays. Despite being so very busy, our prescriptions are always filled on time. We often call ahead to ask if things can be ready sooner. If they can do it, they will -- something we really appreciate. The lines at both the in-store counter and the drive-thru can take a while though, so be prepared to wait. I've come in twice for various vaccine shots. Those are given in a tiny walled off area with a door for privacy. A little cramped, but better than locations which only had curtains. Both times, very nice pharmacists arrived promptly, put me at ease and administered the shots efficiently. Thankful for my reliable neighborhood pharmacy. read more

The worst pharmacy of any in the central Austin area. The employees are always in a terrible mood. They miss the estimated pickup time 75% of the time. If there is an insurance issue, so they will cancel the prescription and not even tell you why it wasn't filled and why it's no longer visible on the Walgreen's app. They gave me regular Lamotrigine instead of Lamotrigine ER once. There aren't that many Walgreen stores in central Austin and this location serves Hyde Park / Triangle and the North University area. It's also open 24/7 and is located conveniently at the intersection of Guadalupe and 45th street. The selection is decent but the refrigerated drinks are just ok so if you are stopping here to get a beverage they might have run out. Prices are adjusted like all 24/7 Walgreen stores but not by too much. If you are in a bind for cleaning supplies or some essentials, the prices aren't through the roof but you can probably save a dollar or two just waiting to get them at HEB or Target. Like the other reviews, peak hours mean more panhandlers by the door. Just be nice and you should be fine. Honestly, the Girl Scouts are way more aggressive than panhandlers when it's girl scout cookie season. Also if you've been to Walgreens in other major cities they lock everything up so it's refreshing that most stuff here you can get without asking for help. I remember even shaving cream is locked up at the Walgreens in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The lines here can get pretty slow on holidays and peak hours. But if you wait awhile they go down. One thing I don't recommend is coming here for vaccinations since the pharmacist has to do double duty so you might not get the best jab. I suggest finding a real pharmacy for your medications and vaccinations. read more

Randall's on 35th transferred my records here when they closed, so I just went with it for several years, and they were fine but less friendly and more corporate/time-consuming. I went to pick up, and they were closed because there was no pharmacist on duty. There was a pre-printed sign, so this must not be a one-time thing. When I called the next day to make sure I could pick up, I had to sit through the long call tree until I got a person. I asked if I could pick up because I tried yesterday and there was no pharmacist. She asked my name. I said I got texts, so I know it's ready - I just want to know before I drive there. She asked my name again and said "I need to know who I'm talking to." (why?) I got mad and said "is there a pharmacist on duty or not?" and she finally said yes. I'm going to drive out of the way to another Randall's now. I know it's not their fault they are busy and you have to wait in line, but I've had enough. read more

But the new one and I don't mean to sound like that but unfortunately I didn't get any names but an Asian pharmacist and a brown pharmacist aid really made my day. Just terrible. I was scheduled for a second covid booster via the Walgreens website. When I showed up I was denied the service, according to the clerk I was supposed to wait five months instead of four. The Walgreens and CDC websites say if you are over 50 you can get the second booster. I am 52 and got my last booster December 6, 2021. That is four and a half months ago. Later in the day I called Walgreens corporate and they told me to call the store so I did. I end up speaking with two shift leaders and I'm put on hold. The phone rings 15-20 and it hangs up on me... I call back and I get the woman shift lead I'd been speaking with and ask why this happened again and she has no answer and says she is the person with the most seniority at the moment, but she has no answers. They do not take your health seriously here. Zero masks on the staff in the pharmacy and a general level of cluelessness. Also the drugs were a total mess on the shelves back there... This place never has milk. They have an entire fridge dedicated to milk, and yet the last 3 times I've stopped for milk it's always been completely empty. This one's on the 2/3 line. I mean, service is generally abominable, of course, because corporate chain underpaying unskilled employees, sometimes to be there in the middle of the night. So, long lines, staff who avoid eye contact so that they can get their stuff done, high employee turnover of teenagers, refugees, and the elderly poor--it's a Walgreens. Also: pharmacy service and wait times otherworldly bad. Bring a book. Also also: water fountain squalid with gum stuck to it. You did convince me to buy a bottle of water that way, so win for you, Walgreens. But beer selection and prices are surprisingly alright for a chain--including both a decent selection of crafts and the awesomely cheap and terrible house brand, Big Flats, for $3.49 a six--it's super convenient to pedestrians in Hyde Park and Rosedale, and damn, if they don't have a metric ton of stuffed animals on clearance after the holidays so that I can make my smallish and oldish puppies go mad with joy when I bring them new toys. And my fur babies deserve 70% off stuffed animal happiness, Walgreens, and sometimes I need Corn Nuts and a Redbox flick while wandering out half in the bag at midnight. And you did kinda maybe save my life that time I got attacked by fire ants and had a violently allergic reaction and needed benadryl like RIGHT FUCKING NOW before my hives morphed into anaphylaxis and made me die in agony and horror, so--you're A-OK in my book, Walgreens. read more

There aren't a lot of options to shop for necessities in mid-city, and I'm very thankful to have this Walgreens around when I have a family member at one of the medical centers. It's a 24-hour store, and always seems to have most of what I need without going to the HEB at Hancock Center. And there are the occasional incredible bargains I stumble upon, like two GUM travel toothbrushes for $2.79, topped off with a BOGOF offer. I'm glad this store is here when I need it. I'm so over this location and it's rude, dismissive staff. At first I put up with a lot of their incompetence because they are so close to my house, but it's not worth it anymore. Having a back and forth with them about medication I need asap or I will start going through withdrawals and they're treating me like a hostile kook instead of helping me figure out a viable solution. Their website and phone message say that the pharmacy at S. Lamar and Bluebonnet in Austin,TX is open until 12:00 midnight on Sunday. I called to check on some refills around 11:15 pm on a Sunday. I got a message asking me to hold and that there was one phone call ahead of me. I waited a very long time. Finally, I hung up and called the store back and talked to someone not in the pharmacy. That person told me the pharmacy closed at 10pm. Why didn't the message just say the pharmacy was closed. Also, I received a phone call a while back to set up having most of my prescriptions filled at one time automatically. I was told that some would be filled on an interim bases until all were coordinated to be filled at once. None of this has happened. This is a busy location being around many health facilities, residential rehab facilities, and the university. You can expect long lines. It's well stocked. I think the staff are helpful, friendly, & patient with our clients. I wanted to purchase medicine, realized I forgot my wallet, and our cashier taught me how to use Apple Pay on my phone real quick. If you want to print photos GO TO CVS! Self print, they don't upload all your photos from your phone and I was in and out in less than 10 min. With Walgreens you need an employee to print out your photos so it is really on their time. I spent an hour and traveled to 2 different Walgreens because the first machine wasn't allowing you to upload photos from phone. The 2nd one still took the machine 15 min to load the photos since they force you to download the first 250 pictures all on the screen so the whole store can see all the photo thumbnails. Then after someone got back there to hand me the printed photos, the printer took an additional 15 min to print the 8 photos. I had plenty of time to write this review when printing photos took a total of 45 min of my life. GO TO CVS! I was in and out in 10 min with 20 pictures printed all on my own time... avoid Walgreens like the plague in regards to photos. read more

You know what? Being a 24 hour store is a sacred trust. It means that you must have the things that reasonable people need access to desperately at any hour of any day. You know, cold medicine, condoms, toilet paper, pornography. A 24 hour drug store is a special treat, because they have a little of everything. an overwhelming pharmaceuticals supply (including the REAL decongestants), food, personal hygiene, housewares. A surefire winner. But not Walgreens. When I stumble in with a pretty young lady at 2:30am looking for a corkscrew, I expect to find one. Why? Sacred trust. If I need it, it will be there. Even though this so called 24 hour establishment saw fit to not carry beer or wine (ANOTHER major strike), I would think carrying a simple cork screw would not be beyond their abilities. But no, no corkscrew to be found. The wine would go undrunk, the young lady would remain chaste. C'mon, Walgreens! You can sell me a wafflemaker at 3am, but not a corkscrew? Get your head in the game, or close up shop at 9pm like the rest of the squares. The only reason I granted two stars was the very helpful employee who pulled out the phone book to call other 24 hour businesses to see if they were more able. read more

Standard Walgreens but something about this one just makes it my favorite. Maybe because the parking lot is easier to get in and out of than other Walgreens. Maybe because I got my new favorite mascara there- you'll know it because it's in a lime green tube. Maybe because my best friend and I were there extolling on the virtues of the various makeup and we got into a spirited discussion regarding said makeup with a lovely makeup counter saleslady. Probably because they carry two rare snack items I love- diet Slice and the holy grail of snacks (if you ask my sister, former college roommates or me): Salt and Vinegar Pringles, y'all, or as we call them, S&V. The guy with dreads who works the super late shift like past midnight is always really nice and friendly to me even at 3 am. Pretty well stocked although they were out of medium sized grape Gatorade tonight.... I once got a very good deal on the bottled Starbucks frappucino things here. Overall I guess it's a pretty normal Walgreens. I actually don't really come here that much or for anything important. I usually just come to get a snack or something. But I wanted to give 5 stars for the nice dread guy I mentioned above. However he was quite sarcastic and brutally honest with another coworker when asked if he needed help, that this situation was a bit of a "dingus". An automated message came up saying "Sorry, no one in that department is available, transferring to the next available department." A woman picked up, I explained what happened and she transferred me to pharmacy. Where I have now been on hold for.. 5:26 minutes. Hey, guess who just lost my business? Walgreens. This is by far my favorite Walgreens. Everyone working the floor is always helpful and willing to chat about what you need. The photo department is quick both on prints and ink refils. Friendliness seems to be the game here, and it works because I usually end up coming here instead of CVS for my quick drugstore needs.
