Last year, Waldron himself came to my house after an accident involving the mast to my service line. He quoted 18K because he knew he had the contractor by the nads. In my basement he was telling me to screw Big Fish Contracting over because we had them. I immediately kicked his a-- out of my house because he was clearly a grifter. Later that day, Patton Electric came to my house and fixed the issue for 1/10th the cost. Both Big Fish Contracting and Patton Electric were honest and reliable. Waldron was in the news last week by screwing over an older and mentally challenged couple clearly not in a position to say no. He took them for over 9K. What a crappy thing to do. Shame on Waldron. I feel like the latest victim of Tom's exploitative strategy. I understand that emergency services come at a premium but when I look back on the amount paid for the services rendered, I believe that Waldron Electric utilizes abusive practices. First red flag, Tom never identified himself as the CEO of the company and also made it seem like he was just a service technician. I feel he purposely wanted to deceive me so he could have an argument for the pricing. Second issue was around the pricing grid. He showed me the outrageous fees and he said it was out of his control. He compared it to emergency vet fees knowing I have a dog and used that information to exploit me. Third, he lied about being accredited by the BBB. After I gave pushback on the diagnostic fee of nearly $3,000; he quickly said he can cut the price to the "non-emergency" fee with the stipulation that I donate $100 to the AAARF. After the fact, I believe that he donates the money under his own name, if at all. Lastly, he left after providing an explanation of his findings and suggested I call the power company. Nothing was fixed and the power company fixed the issue at no cost. He used a lot of jargon to create confusion and concern only to manipulate the use of his services. After reading the many 1-star reviews on Yelp, I feel misguided by the 4-star reviews on Google. That leads me to believe those reviews are potentially fabricated. We had power lines down due to a storm Tuesday. West Penn Power replaced them. I needed them to be inspected for reconnection. Waldron was one of the first on my google search, that was my first mistake. Scheduler promised he would be at my house between 10 and 11 am. I called at 1130 when no one showed up and received return call that lacked customer service skills and class. He finally arrived here around 235pm. Would not get out of his truck to see the problem without handing him $225 CASH. He wrote us an estimate for almost $9k and said let me know if you want power today or I'm leaving. Fast forward to Prodigy Electrical Group. Showed up at 930pm. No cash fee. Very kind and knowledgeable. Worked into the early morning to get my power on for under $600. We are upgrading our full panel with them next month because of that great experience and that is only costing $2700. Dont get ripped off folks. Predatory pricing is real. Knowing I was 3 days post op from an abdominal sugery and my daughter's birthday is this this weekend made Waldron try to get us for every dollar he could, while an honest Electrician got us up and running quickly and affordably and earned our business for life. Do your research. There are tons of articles and cases against Waldron, including the FTC for unfair pricing. Their behavior and unprofessional demeanor should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. 2 representatives came in my home unannounced and upon taking them to the basement, the first immediate claim was to pay them $125.00 in cash which was for them to come to the home? I was gracious to give them $140.00 and told them to keep the change! At which the lead informed the junior that it was not a tip? More importantly, there was an additional $575.00 charge if they were to find a switch? I inquired as to have them provide an explanation for what the $575 would be for and all I was looking for was for them to install a new GFI box in the basement. In addition the representative spoke quickly in a very confusing manner and started to sound aggressive and somewhat threatening. When I asked him why he was speaking to me in this fashion he assured me that he wasn't being aggressive if he was being aggressive he would be throwing me through the wall? I asked for the $140 back and his response was you have a better chance of seeing God and getting your $140 back and they were not in my house for more than 10 minutes. This is beyond good business as I was not only offended but I have felt that in all of my years of paying service contractors far and above what they charge this may be the worst experience that I've ever had with anyone. I am sick to my stomach what happened to me yesterday. I am a new home owner and this was my first time requesting service for anything. I had no idea what things would cost. I know things aren't cheap. But cheap is relative. So...I lose power to half of my main floor. I decide to call this company. I read reviews and was pretty floored by the Google rating. He tells me if it's not a true emergency he advises to not have him come out in the evening. It was $375 instead of $150. I agree and we daisy chained the fridge for the night. He comes and charges the $150, then a $975 just to diagnose the problem. I should have turned away there but like I said - I know nothing! My parents never really had problems that they had to call an electrician for. So I sign and pay. Honestly I thought the diagnosis had been done already? I don't know. I was confused and overwhelmed. So he comes back up. Pulls out a book of prices and estimates me over $4500 for the job. Again going back to my original statement, my dumb self went forward because he made it sound like it was an emergency. He wiggled my main and made it buzz and slightly spark and said "thank God you called". I didn't know this was a $1000 job. I didn't know I could get another electrician out today and still have a house left standing. All he did was replace main and a few breakers. I learned I could have upgraded my whole system for less than $2000. I am calling the attorney general's office today to file a complaint and get advice. We noticed that there was electrician next door. We asked if he could look at our electric. He came in, changed me $973 , went downstairs and told me to call the power company. I scheduled Waldron Electric to replace an existing outlet with a GFCI so that I could have a chair lift installed for my 96 year old father. Before he even arrived at the home, he told me that this was going to cost close to $1000. Assuming that he did not understand that there was an existing outlet that only needed switched out, I let him go to the house despite the $125 cost for the service call. While there, he determined that the cost to replace the outlet was going to be $1250. According to Angi website and several others, the total should have been under $300. When I asked him to justify how a simple outlet ($35 off the shelf at both Lowes and Home Depot) would cost so much to install, I was told that he was going to have to "drive all over" to find parts and that he would need to be compensated for his time. I had the MOST unprofessional interaction with the Waldron Electric technician (who is think is the owner of the company). He was scheduled to come out to replace 3 LED light fixtures, simple flush fixtures in hallways; I already had the new fixtures. I had been told by the office that they wouldn't give an estimate over the phone, that the service call would be $145. A few minutes before the scheduled arrival time for my service call, the technician called to find out some details about the job. I explained, and when I told him one of the fixtures was about 8-9 feet off the ground, he told me that fixture alone would be $750 to replace. When I told him this sounded way too expensive, he started talking about his insurance for work at heights. He said the other fixtures would be around $500 a piece to replace. I told him his fees were ridiculous, I would never pay that much. He started going on about his city permit costs, and how no one else would be able to do this work for less. He was talking such nonsense that he sounded like he was on something. I told him not to bother coming over, I wouldn't work with his company. About 30 minutes later I got a call from another electrician, who told me that "his friend" told him I had electrical work that needed to be done and he could do it for me. So the Waldron technician was trying to connect me with a friend who would do the work for less than what he quoted me. SO SKETCHY. I would never work with this company. A week later I had the work done by another company for $402, exactly what I was quoted prior to the visit. read more

Do NOT to business with this company. Waldron charges ridiculous rates that take advantage of people who are in desperate/emergency situations, and in my case he didn't even fix my problem. I lost power on a weekday morning after my main breaker appeared to blow/trip. Not being knowledgeable about electrical work and not wanting to make the situation worse, I contacted Waldron for service (they were the first Google result for "Pittsburgh electrician same day service"), and Mr. Waldron arrived at my home a few hours later. Once he got to my house, he told me that I would have to pay an $1800 "diagnostic fee" (I had already paid a $175 call fee for him to show up) before he would look at anything. This seemed ridiculous, but I needed to get my power back on; I work from home and had someone coming to my house to install a new air conditioner in two days, so I felt I had no choice and agreed. Mr. Waldron told me that a bad compressor in my old air conditioner had caused the main breaker to blow, and that he could replace the breaker, at a cost of $4,780.00. Again, this seemed very, very excessive but in the moment I felt like I had no choice, and agreed. Mr. Waldron serviced the breaker and my power was restored. He was at my home for 45 minutes at most, for a total cost to me of nearly $7,000 (I later saw that the breaker he serviced is a $50 part). Two days later, an AC technician came to my house to install my new AC unit. Once the new unit was installed, we turned it on to test it, and the main breaker tripped again, cutting off my power. The AC tech diagnosed the problem as bad wiring in my electrical system; it had nothing to do with the breaker or the old air conditioner. The AC tech serviced the wiring, and everything is now fine. So Waldron charged me an $1,800.00 "diagnostic fee", which did not make a correct diagnosis, and another $4,800.00 to service a part that had nothing to do with the actual problem. He took almost $7,000.00 of my money for basically nothing. I should have been smarter, but this is a pattern with Mr. Waldron, looking through his BBB complaints and other review sites, there are many people with similar stories. This is how he operates, price gouging people who are desparate. I would also add that after I posted a negative review to another site, Mr. Waldron texted me saying I was "crying like a little b*tch on the internet", which is obviously completely unprofessional and no way to deal with people. He also responded to my review and totally mischaracterized what happened, making it seem like I was demanding immediate service, etc, which was absolutely NOT the case, as I never asked for a specific time for service. Do not use this company for emergency work. My wife called them since we had a partial power loss throughout our house. Their emergency fee was $325 which I did not have a problem paying. They collect this payment immediately. Then the whammy comes. Since I have a 200 AMP breaker, the diagnostic fee is $1890.00 up front before they do ANYTHING. They also use scare tactics to create the worst-case scenario. I reluctantly paid the $1890.00., to have them do 10 minutes of work to tell me that it is a Duquesne Light issue. Duquesne Light came to fix the issue an hour later. They said that any reputable electrical company would never even had to enter the house to diagnose the problem since there was only partial power coming into the house due to a loose connection at the pole where my power comes from. I understand the upfront diagnostic fee, but I don't know how this company can leave my house having collecting $2300 for 15 minutes of work and be able to sleep at night. You could tell it was a scripted play. There was no, since I was here for only 15 minutes, we'll issue a credit of ___ towards the diagnostic fee. Total crook. I'm appreciative they came out on short notice, but I do feel taken because they're not up front about costs. They only mentioned the diagnostic fee of $125 on the phone, and that's really just to come into your house and have you explain the issue to them. They don't charge by the hour, they charge a very expensive flat fee (in my case $640) that you only find out about after you're on the hook for $125. Read the comments and you'll see they respond saying that "emergency" services are expensive, well they never describe it as "emergency services" when you call them so you think you're calling a regular electrician. It's lying by omission. The technician sounded relieved when he said I was cool because I didn't yell at him like most customers. Appointment was on 4.16. Told electrician would be at the home between 11 & 1. 12:40 I call to confirm if the electrician would be late. Receptionist told me that she sees that I'm scheduled and that someone will call me back. At 12:50 the electrician calls me and tells me he's not coming because it's raining and 45 degrees out. I told him that I'm looking out the window and not a drop of rain at my location. In fact , did not rain the rest of the afternoon. He again explains they do not work in 45 degree weather and when it's raining. He was smug from the beginning of the call. No apology was given. He then tells me that he viewed my home via satellite and the job would be over $2000. The electrician gives me a quote without even coming to the house . Oh that's right, it was 45 degrees out. I said that was fine but I just wanted an estimate on my electric panel if it would need repair. When he arrived, the first thing he did was charge my card. He then told me that to give an estimate it would cost me around $350 to start. I told him I was not going to pay that because when I called originally he knew it was for an estimate. Then he said ok, just let me look at it. He went in to see the panel and then proceeded to tell me he was professional and an Inspector. He then told me the whole panel would need replaced. I'm not sure what to feel about this experience. I reached out on a friday afternoon after another 'well advertised' electrical service company called back to cancel. Receptionist (or whoever) that answered the call was very polite, was very empathetic to our situation. She let me know that a reasonable 'service fee' of $165 dollars, emergencies are emergencies for a reason, was the cost. Do not agree, and never will understand, why companies do not apply that to the cost of an actual service, if you so choose to move forward on the spot...if not, then take the fee and move on, everyones happy. Anyhow, had an electrical outlet short out upstairs, causing the top floor of our houses power to go out (tripped the breaker, would not reset). We were in a tough situation because the power in our sons room, bathroom and hallway (we have a ceiling fan we use as white noise) were all out. The owner and a tech (im assuming) showed up and immediately let me know that the call is after hours, emergencies will cost more after hours, everything is happening after hours. THEN WHAT THE HELL IS THE 24 HOUR SERVICE IN RELATION TOO? Whatever. After a brief discussion, and I 'told them' exactly where the issue occurred (in my non-electrician, humble opinion, i was there...) they proceeded to quote me $1500 to 'analyze' the situation. I politely chuckled, after catching my breath, and asked them to leave. Was bombarded with 'it could take us all night to figure this out, blah blah blah' actually, i shouldn't take a trained professional with x amount of years experience to 'figure' out the issue that i specifically directed them too...once again, i am not a professional, just been around the trades my entire adult life. They had me in a tough situation carrying around my 16 month old with no other solutions to fix our problem until the following monday. Not good to say the least. We, eh, agreed upon $1100 dollar fix without anyone 'analyzing' anything, amazing, and the job was done in 10 minutes. WOW! I guess the owner Tom just 'got lucky' by starting where i told them the problem occurred. He said he was doing me a favor and "not charging me for a days work". He ended up telling me the problem was with the power company. He was gone within 25 minutes. He did not fix anything. He did not replace anything. All he did was charge me $1200.00 for 25 minutes. When I questioned him about the price he said "that's what it costs for diagnostics". Obviously I'm pretty disgusted. I work with the public and can't imagine treating someone that way. My husband called him later in the day to discuss the findings and price and the man hung upon him. Just terrible. Charged $175 just to come out (no problem). Asked them to install Nest Doorbell. Without even looking at the wiring, goes outside and comes back in with quote $275 per hour minimum 4 hours. $1,100 on top of $175 to add doorbell. WTF!!! Do not call these scam artists. They have a 3 tiered scam which feeds off of your fears. First they charge an emergency fee just to arrive. They then charge a "diagnostic fee" which seems to vary based on your area and then finally they charge you a fee to do the work. Do not get scammed. They grossly overcharged me for minor service while convincing me I had an immenent fire hazard on my hands.
