Complete SCAM. Called out Waldron for an emergency commercial job and was notified that is would be $650 for the emergency call out. Then I was told it was be another $100 for a helper to come out as well. Once on site you could tell right away he had no idea what he was doing as he showed up with no material. Then he tried to tell me that he couldn't get material over night and it was a 2 day project but he would be kind enough to refer me to a few other contractors that may be able to help me. I came to find out this company doesn't even do Commercial electrical work. Billed my company for doing absolutely nothing. Our furnace stopped working in the middle of January, and unfortunately, we found these crooks online. Charged us $1700 just to show up and then did NOTHING. Claimed that it would cost $5000 to do the actual repair. Very rude. When I had another company evaluate the issue, we found out that Waldron gave us a totally incorrect diagnosis on the issue. The second company (which was a great company) took care of the whole issue for $200. I never got my $1700 back, bc they have an iron clad contract. They have had multiple complaints against them. They even used to be known as a different company name. (They changed the name after they were forced to pay out some money in some lawsuits.) Do NOT use these people. Total Crooks!! read more

Stay away! This company is a predator feeding on the misfortunes of others. After a storm a tree branch dropped on the main line to our house and ripped the conduit off of the houuse. Duquesne Light said they would reattach the lines to the house but we would need an electrician to complete the feed to the meter. This was on a Sunday evening. We called Waldron Electric, who said there was a $425 fee to send a bucket truck on an emergency basis, and that they could do the job the same night. At the time we still had power lines down and didn't even know how safe the situation was. He said on the phone that the job might cost $3,000 - $5,000. He also said that he wanted to replace existing metal conduit with PVC, a downgrade from what was previously there (likely not up to code due to the height of the line over the roof). It took a few hours for him to arrive. When he arrived at the house the first thing we had to do was give him a credit card for the truck fee, even before he assessed any damage. After that he told us the estimate was $8,000 - $13,500 to do the job that night, and that it would be around $7,500 to do it on a non-emergency basis. He also told us he really didn't want to do the work that night, even though he already had the supplies on his truck. Some excuse about having to see a chiropractor from the pain the job would cause him. At this time we realized he was a running a scam, refused the service, and told him to leave. We were now running on an emergency generator. He immediately dropped his price to $6,800 for a rebuild with metal conduit and $3,500 for PVC, but only if he could do it the next day. He also suggested ways to pad the estimate for the insurance claim. The following day we got a referral for a local electrician who did the job for less than $1,000 and completed the work the same day. We were very happy with the results of that company. read more

With the hot weather in Pittsburgh, my small business pizza shop was a in a vulnerable position when the outlets stopped working. Just coming back from such a tough year for small business we wanted to get this fixed because the AC was also not working which would cause us to shut our doors until it was fixed. We called Waldron and they showed up immediately asking $275 in cash, just to walk through the door. We were okay with paying that, but the manner in which he asked was completely rude; saying "You're a pizza shop, you don't have cash?" It was a holiday weekend so we had been closed and did not have cash on hand. Being in such a frenzy and vulnerable state, my father signed a paper then was charged $5000 to get a fused fixed which took less than a half hour. This is completely wrong and with the last year we had due to COVID, we feel completely taken advantage of. We then did some research and saw a lot of complaints with the attorney generals office. I'm only giving them one star because I can't give zero. NEVER call these scammers! I called them yesterday because I was having trouble with my electricity. So the guy they send arrives four hours after they said he would and immediately has me sign a contract saying I'm "satisfied with work performed and agree [I] knew all prices in advance." Has me take out my credit card to pay $100 just for him to come out there. Then he tells me it'll be $1,050 just for him to take a look at my circuit breaker. I say I'm not paying that much. Through a lot of fast-talking about how our photovoltaic setup makes it more dangerous to open up the panel (total bull -- you can literally just switch it off on the side of the house), he manages to convince me to pay him $610 to look at it. I give him my credit card again, sign the contract again. After looking at it, he says my main breaker is broken and he'll have to replace it -- for almost $4,000. I'm stunned, but how would I know how much these things usually cost? And my electricity has been out for an entire day, I'm worried about my food spoiling, I'm so tired of dealing with all this, and I just want it to be over. I text my husband at work, who starts googling how much this normally costs. He calls me back, saying a main breaker costs an average of $500, and the average cost to replace one is -- at absolute most -- $1,300, maybe $1,500. The guy starts talking again -- real fast, not giving me any time to think -- and breaks down the costs for me, including $800 for city permits. Now, we've got a friend who works for the city. My husband texts him, and he says permits for this kind of work would be around $28, absolute max of $50. $800 is completely insane. I tell the guy no, but he won't leave my garage. Keeps going on and on about how you need a licensed electrician with the city for this work, and most people you'll call don't have that (bull), and here's what a licensed electrician card looks like so I know, and I'd better watch out buying breakers on the internet because some of them are counterfeit, and Waldron gets theirs direct from GE, and on and on and on. Basically trying to convince me I can't trust anyone but Waldron for this difficult, dangerous, and complicated work. He shuts off all my electricity (the living room still worked) because otherwise it might be dangerous. Earlier today, I called Hanner Electric Heating & Air. They came out, investigated the circuit breaker. They said there was nothing wrong with it -- probably just a temporary problem with our electric company -- and turned everything back on. It's working fine now, no problems. Now, here's the funny part: as soon as I told Floyd Hanner about my experience with Waldron, he *immediately* recognized the name. He said Waldron has the first three electrician businesses in the Yellow Pages and doesn't want anyone to know it's the same people. They've been taking advantage of people for years, been sued at least once. I initially found it odd that they didn't take checks. I should have listened to that gut feeling -- it's probably because checks are too easy to cancel once you're away from their high-pressure sales tactics and have a moment to think. They have you sign a contract saying you're happy with the work and fine with the prices before they've done any work or told you any prices, save the $100 to come out there -- presumably as evidence if you try to sue them. (Though they've been sued at least once, so it can be done.) They delete negative reviews (which is why I'm copying this review and cross-posting it to NextDoor, Google, and any other website I can find). These people are con artists, ruthlessly taking advantage of people, fast-talking people into accepting absurdly high prices. Do not let them into your home. Do not give them a single red cent. Tell everyone in Pittsburgh never to trust them. You want a good, trustworthy electrician? Hanner's your man. I had to learn that the hard way, but you don't have to. Update: Minutes after I posted this review, the owner called to harangue me about it. Among his endless river of words was a subtle threat to sue me, which he quickly backed down on when I invited him to come and try. But he did offer to come back over, confirm that there wasn't a problem, and refund my money -- provided I sign a release. I said I wasn't signing anything from him. After lots of negotiation with both myself and my husband, he finally refunded our $610. He seemed extremely concerned with this review. My husband told him I'd update my review with this new information. And so I have. If you post an angry review online, and don't back down when they threaten you, you may get your money back. Requested air conditioning repair service. They had a $325 fee just to come out. Since it was Sunday and 100 degrees I agreed. Unfortunately, the technician forgot to mention that the next step would be a $1875 "diagnosis" fee. I'm sorry, but in most situations service calls include a diagnosis. Then the repair would be extra...he said could be as high as another $1000 to $10,000. In short, the experience was very frustrating. Absolutely unethical. Called them out to the house bc we lost power on our hot tub. He came out, had me sign a bunch of paperwork, then flipped the breaker. The power came back on (we'd tried that but for some reason it didn't work when we did it). He was there for about 2 minutes, one minute of which he spent talking about his dead dogs. Charged me SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS! I am APPALLED. When I called him out on his ethics, he told me it was "the price of doing business." I assured him it was not, and told him to get out. He tried to offer me a whole house surge breaker as some sort consolation prize, which I refused. I had to ask him three times to leave my property while he futzed about with his paperwork and tried to offer me surge protectors. I have used many, many contractors over the years for all sorts of work and have NEVER met anyone so unethical in my life. I wished I'd read these reviews first. I called this company for help with an electrical issue I was having at my house. The receptionist on the phone was great getting me set up for a same day appointment and going over the process. Then electrician did in fact call me back quickly. That's when things took a turn for the worst. The electrician asked what my issue was, then rudely started complaining about the job, how complicated it would be and mentioned that he didn't want to do it because he didn't want to have to go to court after the problem wasn't fixed because my appliance could be the issue. He did not offer any assistance, advice or even to talk through options with me. He only loudly and rudely talked over me, told me the 10 reasons he didn't want the job and to take the appliance back. After I asked him why he wouldn't try to help me figure out what I needed to do and why he was being so rude he cited being in traffic as the reason. Shut the main to replace a circuit breaker in my box on a Saturday. Could not get the main to reset after the the new breaker was in. Tried it 15-20 times with no luck. I understood there was a $125 trip fee since it was a Saturday. When the guy arrived he told me there would be a $325 reset free but based on what I told him he didn't think there would be an issue. I signed the paper work and gave him my credit card. He walks over to the circuit box and flips the main back on and charges me $450. This place is a complete rip off. I will never call them again. Having read so many awful reviews of Waldron I feel lucky I only called him but didn't hire him. Our one phone call felt like a scam. We had a tree fall and rip the electric box off our house. Obviously our power was out. Duquesne Light couldn't restore power until we'd dealt with the electrical damage on our property. Waldron--first one I called--said right away it would be minimum 7 to 8 thousand to fix. "But I can't even tell you what the damage is," I said. "Don't you want to come by and look before giving me a quote?" He then got nasty--30 seconds into the call---and snarled at me, "Are you trying to tell me my JOB?" I said no, but that his quote was a large one and I'd have to discuss with my wife. He told me I could call any electrician in town--HIS price was the best and I'd never find anyone available for at least a week. The SECOND electrician I called came by that same morning, for NO CHARGE, and gave me a solid price of $1200.00. By 5 pm that first day, his people had done the work and we had our power back on. Thomas Waldron is a crook. He charged me $1700 to change a dryer receptacle and plug. It took him about a half hour to do and the parts cost is about $50. Why would I pay this? I had zero idea of the cost of these things. Never had to hire an electrician to do work before and he spent 15-20 minutes babbling to qualify this. I was caught off guard. Don't become a victim. He starts with $110 arrival fee makes you sign. He initially told me it would cost between $500-800 for the whole job. Before he gets started he tells me once he starts work it will be $600. Makes you sign. Once he had me hooked for that amount he tells me it will be another $1000 to complete. I knew I was being hosed but did not know how bad. Every professional I've spoken to about this said the whole job should have been $300 MAX. Then I learn that he has done this many many times to people and he was arrested on 8/12 by McCandless police for deceptive business practice - false/mis stating credentials and criminal attempt theft by deceptive false impression. He is due in court on Nov 13th. Google "Pittsburgh Electrician Arrested" and you will learn all you need to know. He also owns. Also look out for other business names such as Three Rivers Electric, Electric USA inc., 911 Emergency Electric Service, Speedy Electric Heating & Cooling. When I asked him the next day why it ended up being so much more than his original estimate he refused to answer. I was going to dispute with my bank but he would try to sue me whereas he would settle for a fair amount but with a gag order. I would rather let the public know and allow the Attorney General take it from here. He will likely lose another case like the one he lost in 2002 ti AG Jesse Harvey for $41k - 94 victims total. An obnoxious person came insisted on credit card immediately and had my husband sign and initial a form in many places before he would do anything. After he charges the $225. He informs us it is an additional $500 before he would look for the problem and just diagnose it. Then additional charges after that. My husband told him to leave. We were ripped off to the tune of $225. We had a reputable person come the following day and the repair total cost was $220 for the trip parts and labor. Agree with all the statements above completely! We live out of state and the air conditioning on our house in Monroeville wasn't blowing cold air. We called Waldron and they took all our information and my parent's information, as they would be the ones to let him in the house. The woman who took my call stated it would be an $85 trip fee and that there would be additional fees for any additional diagnostics and repairs. My dad met Tom at our house and explained the problem. Tom had my dad initial in several places on a blank sheet of paper (probably not the best decision, but my dad did it). Tom ran his "diagnostics" and said it needed a new capacitor. He put the new piece in without talking to me about what was wrong or price to fix it. He also told my dad it need to be cleaned to work properly. Again, without discussing price, he "cleaned" my air conditioner. He then started listing numerous things that were "wrong" with the unit. At that point, my dad called me to talk to him. He said it would cost $1496 to replace the broken part, $895 for the cleaning, it needed a new this, a new that, just to work for 5 years. When my husband started questioning some of his findings, he became rude. The rudeness continued into swearing and just overall HORRIBLE customer service. My husband told him to take the part out, put our old stuff back in and we would find someone else to do the work. We asked him to bill us...$960!!! He wrote in prices on the blank sheet of paper he had my dad initial. A service call and performing a "cleaning" without authorization from the homeowner. I attempted to call numerous times the following day to dispute the events. After several attempts he finally returned my call and was again argumentative, rude, condescending, using foul language...the list could go on forever. After talking for 45 minutes, he said if I "made a donation of $300 to APL, he would come out and fix the problem for no fee to him." This guy is a CROOK, SCAM ARTIST and he needs to loose his business. He was SO rude and has the worst customer service! NO ONE should EVER hire this company!! I was without power for 5 days. My mother was under hospice care at the time and I was unable to schedule an electrician as I was there most of the time. She did pass away on Jan. 1, 2017. Penn Power had come to my home on Dec. 21, 2016. They were able to restore partial power at that time, but told me that a corroded bolt at the meter needed to be replaced. I called Mr. Waldron on Dec. 22, and by phone relayed the problem. He said it sounded like a big job and would take about a week at a cost of between $6,000 to $8,000. A week to replace a bolt????? He arrived about 5:30 and without looking at the meter, asked for my credit card, went to his truck, called his office, and had $8,000 put on my card. He began working, left to get a new bolt ($80) and returned. I had gone to bed but noticed me power back on about 8:45 p.m. Mr. Waldron told me the next day that he was here until 1:00a.m. I'll take him at his word as I was asleep. The next day I checked my credit card and the $8,000 was still on the card. On Dec. 30 I received a certified letter from Mr. Waldron with a contract for me to sign and initial. Fat chance! It was also noted that the work he did was merely and temporary fix and to complete the job it would be another $5,000. I had another electric company to my home. Their estimate for work already completed by Mr. Waldron including emergency service and overtime was $860. I am using them to complete the work, replacing the 400amp meter socket, electrical inspection and disconnect and reconnect fees at $1,600. I truly do not mind paying for a service, but $8,000 was to be for a whole work week-not a few hours!!! The President of the U.S. doesn't make that much an hour!!!!! read more

I had Waldron Electric come to my house for service on Friday, September 1 to fasten a meter box to my house and replace a breaker in the main control panel. The top of the meter box was pulled away from the house by one inch. The technician hammer drilled four holes into the mortar joints and fastened the box with inexpensive metal brackets. He replaced the breaker with a new 50 amp breaker. He was at my residence for 1 hour and charged me $2614. Very amateur work that cost way too much. Unethical practices such as an $875 diagnosis charge. Interesting that he needed this because I told him what needed done. By the way he was one of the owners of the company. Very unethical business practices. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone let alone don't understand how they remain in business operating with these type of practices. Give good honest electricians a bad name. I do not have a vendetta against Waldron. In fact, this is the first time we used their services. The technician working at my residence told me stories of how he had to go to court to fight customers that refuse to pay for Waldron services. Now I know why. read more
