Overall, this is a nice place, but I'm just reviewing on the obstacle course area. It can get pretty crazy. We had to watch a safety video and while I was out there with my family, I saw a lot of people disregarding safety rules. My son got pushed off by a lot of older kids. A group of kids kept running around and still managed to tackle me off when I stepped aside to give them room. I felt that the lifeguards were not doing enough to enforce the rules. It actually was really fun, but it didn't feel safe at all. read more

Looking for a fun work out for the family? We had a blast enjoying the different activities at Wai Kai. Located in the heart of Ewa Beach's well established neighborhood Ocean Point/Hoakalei. You will pass the famous Ernie Els golf course and feel like you entered modern Hawaii. There is a wave pool that newbies and pros can utilize to enhance their surf game. I like watching the surf from the line up which is a casual setting bar restaurant that's also a good place to watch any sports. The downstairs area has a more upscale hip dining called Kitchen Door. Situated overlooking the lagoon with Amazing sunset views. Back to the workout...besides the surf. I enjoy the stand up paddle and kayak. I paddle out to 1 of the 3 floating cabanas get a tan and switch out to the duck pedal boat. There are night events such as concerts. We like to bring our dog to the farmers market on Thursdays. We signed up to do the Aqua Adventure before school starts. The reason this is not 5 stars is because of the website and information. It was difficult for us as first time visitors to Wai Kai to understand what's there, what to expect, what to bring, etc. Things like where to sit while kids are on the adventure would be nice to have on the website. Like...you have to pay to sit in the sand area, there's a free area to sit if you get there early (4 tables), or buy food and sit in the restaurant table area. They should also include that there will be breaks where everyone has to exit and the times that this will occur. Also, the staff can be a little more friendly being that this is visited by both locals and tourists. You want the locals to keep coming back and the tourists to say good things about the place so you should provide good customer service. Now the good stuff. It was fun! The kids and adults enjoyed it. Running around, jumping off the sides, climbing up and sliding down, etc. There's areas to pull yourself back up to the platform with a step to make it easy to get up. The facilities are very clean. Food was pretty good...not the cheapest but good for being at a tourist stop. read more

We love going to Wai Kai and frequently visit for activities, but the presence of Fire Ants is literally everywhere down there. You certainly can't sit on the ground, and even the stones and benches are covered with them. We've been bitten in the ankles, feet, and calves just from standing in one place too long and you can forget about taking your pet there, as you risk having them get bitten in the face or eyes just by sniffing around. So shame! The infestations seem to cover their entire campus. read more

My family has spent thousands of dollars at this establishment. We ran back to our house which is 3 blocks away and left our car charging. And these jerks had our car hooked up to a tow truck when we came back to their establishment less than a hour later. We will NEVER go to Wai Kai again. We did break the rules but there should be some sort of Aloha for people that live in the neighborhood and spend tons of money at your establishment. By the way, your food is horrible. We went on a Monday for dinner and pleasantly surprised that Tahiti Mana was doing their preview show and needless to say, it was SPECTACULAR! As for the food - it was just ok. It was your touristy American but Hawaii kind of inspired menu. Our table ordered the ribeye, kalua pig, loco moco, short rib, pizza, and kale salad. Would I go there just for the food? No. Would I go there for the entertainment and facilities? Yes. I hope Wai Kai in the long run will be able to remain in business since they've spent alot of money into it but I can only see the hype for so long. Went to see what the hype is about. At 930am Sunday it was kinda of deserted, so we walked around to sightsee. Then we saw a few people eating at the boardwalk area by the water. We weren't hungry or thirsty so we didn't try anything, but took notes on their menus. Beers $10! Sorry to say, the Lagoon were you are supposed to do your water sports smells like rotten eggs. I can't see myself ever going in that water. There is no sand beach either and you can't byo gear and just use the Lagoon. It's all designed to funnel you towards payment. The artificial wave pool looked cool, but I'd never pay to do it. Unless you're surfing, there is nowhere for anyone else in your group to swim or get wet. It's not a water park. We will come back to try the other restaurants and perhaps the poolside bar at sunset some time. However I will keep an eye on the reviews first. read more

Visited Wai Kai with my aunt and decided to have breakfast at Kitchen Door. It was my first time on the property, and I must say, the beautiful views and modern ambiance make it a fantastic place to explore, dine, and try out new activities. The place, with its stunning views, was surprisingly empty, which made it even more enjoyable, especially with my two toddlers. As a local, I found the prices for activities a bit on the higher side. It would be great to see more affordable options. Adding an obstacle float island in the lagoon could be a fantastic family attraction and enhance the overall experience. Went for a ride to Wai Kai on Monday as my daughter had a job interview at The Lookout. This place is beautiful and very spacious. At first glance, it looks only 1 note, but as you venture further in, there is so much more. As you drive in, the first thing you notice is all the open space. I was told they hold an open market with food trucks once a week in the gravel lot on the left. The parking is also spacious. As you walk towards Wai Kai, you see The Lookout, which is the primary restaurant. There's also a lot of outside seating all over the place, and there's also 2 big lawn areas. One of which is set up for games like corn hole and puzzles. When you pass The Lookout, there is a smaller cafe/bar more seating on the right (under The Lookout) and then the wave pool. The pool is large and, depending on the day of the week, is set up for different types of surfing or bodyboarding. Past the pool is Sessions where you purchase what activities you want to do and Wai Kai merchandise. Next to Sessions is another restaurant called Kitchen Door. I was told they have 2 chefs with Michelin Stars. They were closed so was unable to taste the food but was told it was very good with reasonable prices... Guess we'll have to come back and try them. Behind Kitchen Door on the lagoon side is their cafe. The cafe opens early for breakfast and is open through dinner. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of any menus. The lagoon is calm and, as it was a sunny day, looked so inviting. They have cabanas, loungers, big rafts, paddle boats that look like ducks, SUP, & kayaks... that can be rented. The lagoon is brackish water with fresh water from a stream and filtered salt water coming through the coral barrier. It is also protected due to a species of Limu only found in this area. We saw fish in the water, so I asked if fishing was allowed and was told not yet. We did have lunch at the cafe next to the wave pool. We had the Kalua Pig Nachos & the Big Mo pizza. The nachos were sooo good and came with the guacamole and 2 different types of crema. Gotta eat it fast, though. The chips on the bottom were really soggy. The pizza was good. Thin crust with light sauce and light cheese topped with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. We skipped the alcohol and just had water. Overall, it was a great place , but the location is underutilized. We were there around 0930 am. However, nothing opens until 1100 am. If I wanted to utilize the Lagoon, I would want to go earlier than 1100 am. This also includes the wave pool and cafe. This could be because the restaurant is open until 9 or 10 pm, and the wave pool is open until 9 pm. Staffing could also be another factor. The Beachwalk cafe by Kitchen Door is the only thing open early. They could open early on weekends, I'm not sure. Nothing was open to see pricing or times. Also, I found out that they are trying to lure the tourists out, but this place should really try to get the locals down there. Make a Kama'aina' pricing and run local specials during the summer or holidays. I personally thought that this would be a great place for an adult birthday party. read more

I wish the sand area went all the way down to the water so they could at least put their feet in the water. The food was mediocre. Overpriced for what they provide. Lovely place. The restaurant foods however, are SO BAD. Every time I try to give them a chance, I am thoroughly disappointed by the cold, flavorless dishes. It's funny too, because the plating/presentations are so nice and look delicious, but taste like a robot with no soul cooked them. I wish I could rate this higher because there is so much potential here and I love the environment. I'll continue to return but I'll stick to the food trucks. read more

Came here on a weekday with friends and it was a perfect day to be out in the sun! As you walk across the parking lot to the restaurant, the beach walk cafe is down the stairs. The view is amazing! There is a man-made lagoon right next to the outdoor seating area. It was windy on this day so we decided to eat inside. The employees are friendly and have that "aloha spirit" attitude. Now onto the food. We couldn't decide so we ordered the banh mi and the burger and shared it. The banh mi was so yummy! It is made with rotisserie chicken and stuffed with fresh veggies. The burger was a bit over cooked and wasn't anything special. However, it came with a spicy mayo sauce which we got on the side. Let's just say that I could drink that sauce! I wish I had asked for more since I had some fries left after it was gone. After lunch we took a tour of the area. The wave pool was awesome to see. The bar upstairs was upscale and had a beautiful view of the lagoon and ocean. We were told that there is live music daily and it's a club on the weekends. I peeked at the menu and they have $4 food entrees and $12 drinks. Sweet! Definitely need to come back to eat at the bar. A nice and new place to relax! read more

This place is built for the tourist. While it provides jobs for locals, they do not want it to be a place for locals to come. The opening day price for the wave pool was $140 per person per hour. That price is not welcoming for local families. Food is about $12 plus per plate which is average price. The service was great. The Lagoon they have is another money grab. There is beach with nicer water to down the road to surf and paddle board for free. The wave pool area and Lagoon could have been designed with more Hawaii culture in mind not just have a Hawaii name. We came here on a saturday afternoon 1 week after they opened and it wasnt very busy..Located in the booneys deep in Ewa. Looks like they plan to develop the area I think they already had some market and plan on a resort who knows. The entrance looks kind of like a resort.. If you are using your phone for directions it will direct you pass the entrance so regardless of what your phone is telling you the entrance is the first driveway with the Wai kai sign. The layout is a two story building which is an upstairs downstairs restaurant and the backside is a bar connected to the retaurant and is where the wave pool is located. The wave pool kind of looked like surfing on a dam but was still super cool..There are tables and chairs to sit around the wave pool to watch. When we went we were allowed in but there are gates (they serve alcohol within the area) so not sure if they would've allowed us in if they were busy. I heard it was $75 intro price per hour but I dont know.. They also had a huge lagoon area with rental paddle boards and kayaks. Alot of rental workers standing around because they did not have one person in the lagoon (I believe it cost like $35 to use) and a really lame lounging area on sand but there is no beach. (looks like a sand box with loungers definetely not appealing) I dont know why anybody would want to even use the lagoon (nasty dredged up sediment and stagnant water ewwww) considering this is hawaii and you can go to a beautiful cleaner actual beach for free. The two story restaurant looked decent enough with a surprisingly affordable price. There was also a bar lounge over looking the nasty lagoon and an oddly placed retail store next to it. My initial impression was how will this place sustain itself... and another thought I can see this place on youtube on that program "mysterys of the abandoned"... Open to the public. You don't have to participate in the water sports to enjoy the amenities here. My family and I simply came to check the place out and have lunch and it was so nice. People thought I was somewhere in the mainland when I posted it over my social media haha. Definitely enjoyed the ambiance. There's even a cute shop downstairs to browse through variety of clothes, swimwear, and more. It's worth the drive if you're on the west side. I'd definitely want to try this place out at night. Gotta check out this new happening place in Ewa Beach. Although they're known for their wave pool, there's so much more to enjoy there. They have a Lagoon in the back where you can use various fun flotation devices(paddleboards, surfskis, etc....). They also have covered floating platforms that you can hang out on in the Lagoon. They have a coffee shop called Foam, a bar next to the wave pool called the Wave Bar, a restaurant overlooking the entire complex called The Lookout, and also a semi fine dining restaurant called Plaza Grill. They're going to be having special events on the lawn(ex. Beer fest). You can even rent out the various lawn areas and boardwalk for parties. Their staff was very friendly. We were walking past Valerie, and she started talking to us, and it became a private tour of the facility. Thank you, Valerie. Don't worry about parking, there's plenty. I'm hoping to see them start some happy hour/local specials so that we can go releax and enjoy the facilities. They also have a lounge with shower/locker facilities called the Nalo Kai Club. I'm sure I missed some things, but you get the idea. I heard that they will even have entertainment at some of the venues. It's worth the visit, and who knows, you might even hit the waves. Came back here 7 months later, it's a lot busier now with the word quickly spreading of Wai Kai. They have a new hydro obstacle course that is a permanent attraction to their lagoon, we ate lunch at Kitchen Bar, which I was sad to hear is closing on June 16, 2024, they have the best mochi pancakes I've tried. After having lunch we headed down to the lagoon with the intention to paddle boat across the water, to my shock, they sell out of tickets to go into the water?!? The lagoon wasn't even full... I didn't realize they sell out of tickets for the entire day. That's something new to me, last time I came there was a time limit for everyone to be in the water (4hours per person) but I noticed this time around that they have all day tickets for purchase which wasn't available before, ugh, probably makes more sense to go to the nearby waterpark for the same price with more attractions and no worries about tickets selling out, just my opinion. Lesson learned, reserve your tickets before coming here if you want to go into the water, there wasn't that many people in the water but apparently there's a "limit". Go to the beach if you want to swim without reservations, which we did after being disappointed by this place. I'll need to reevaluate if I would return here again. read more

We came here for Fathers Day to play around on the Aquaventure Ultimate Water Challenge. Parking is great. Easy to get to and plenty of stalls Price is very fair. We paid $30 a person for the aquaventure challenge. That's with the kamaaina/military discount. It's $35 per adult without these discounts. This was for anytime between 10 am and 4 pm. Our family consists of all adults. 18, 20, 22, and my husband and I. The aquaventure challenge is a blast for any age. There are rules that you must wear a life jacket (which they provide) and there are plenty of lifeguards throughout the obstacle course. There is a small area on the side for small Keiki under the age of 7. There are changing tents, showers, a small sand beach area with lounge chairs, picnic tables and umbrellas. These are limited so you'll want to get there at a decent time to get a chair. You can also rent a locker to store your valuables for a very fair price. I can't remember how much but it was less than $5. There are little stores, icecream/coffee shop and other places there as well. A very fun time and no complaints from us! Staff was friendly and everything seemed clean and in good quality. read more

The Waterman's Journey at Wai Kai is a MUST SEE. Boyfriend and I went to enjoy this show per recommendation and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the team members with open arms. We were both given some wristbands and a nice cup of Kava mixed with some coconut milk and I'm not used to Kava that tastes "good" so I was pleasantly surprised at its flavor! We were then guided to the close by bar area and the fun began with the lovely bartenders who quickly whipped up two action packed Mai Tais. We stuck to it for the remainder of the night, it was just that good. About 30 minutes in, we were greeted with our pre-ordered appetizers, 2 beautifully presented Spicy Ahi on crispy wonton chips. Full of flavor and very satisfying along with our rum based drinks. Live music began during our appetizers and our host/live singer was just beautiful all around. Her voice, her messages and information from their culture during the entire show kept us connected. For our mains, sorry no photos, we enjoyed the Rib Eye and Vegetarian plates. Who knew a portobello mushroom could pack so much flavor! Rib Eye was cooked to liking and the sides were accompanying. For dessert, we also enjoyed the Panipopo which is a warmly baked sweet bread with this coconut creme sauce that had me floored. All of this with beautiful energetic dancers giving us story after story of entertainment and dance! To think of what they go through to change outfits in 30 seconds is beyond me! I was very disappointed at how the event organizer of Birthday Bash left everyone drunk with empty stomachs to drive home all to overcharge on everything. 10$ water? 6$ Musubi? 24$ 24 ounce can of alcohol. This is like an upscale fun zone, cornhole, surfing, dining, drinks, kayaking, sup, paddle boards/bikes, jet skiing, lounging, water fun/slip n slide adventure course, a small white sand beach-- lots of space to have a more quiet moment or separate from the group. I like coming here for the obstacle course in the lagoon. After paying an expensive price for a very short amount of time. The young employees are straight up just rude. They don't have manners. I requested a 2:30 session but the employee was rudely eating in front of us with her mouth full. She was very unprofessional. Especially for the young man thats also the lifeguard or instructor for the wave was constantly being a snob to us just because we weren't given clear instructions. The managers and supervisors or any adults were super cool and kept it professional. I had better customer service at the lagoon side of Wai Kai than the wave section. Please managers discipline and show great work ethics and set an example. Me and my friends were treated out of hands from your young employees. I get it, the job is definitely fun and cool, but they are to comfortable and not thinking of customer service and satisfaction. Work is work. Wish we were treated with more respect. Went to have dinner here and it was our first time on property. I found the bathroom in the restaurant and asked a worker if the single "ohana" stall was the only bathroom and she said yes. Had to wait quite a while then two guys with biker vests came out (probably doing drugs) urine on ground, didn't flush toilet. Come to find out from others that went there before there are other bathrooms downstairs. Would have been nice if the waitress mentioned that. Music was crazy loud, food was just okay, service okay but cool view for kids if you get a window seat. read more

Took my wife here on Mother's Day. We rode our bikes from home since we live close by. The plan was to sit outside and have a drink and some food. I was at the bar ordering a drink when a guy, maybe a manager or someone in charge came up to me and said something. I asked him to repeat himself because he didn't speak clearly. He then yelled at me : "PUT. YOUR. BIKE. ON. THE. RACK!". I simply said ok no problem. I would have in the first place, but there's no signage and its in a high theft area. The bar tender said to me as I was signing the bill, "don't even tip me man, that was rude". We skipped the food, I had my drink quickly and left.
