Okay, so you're asking why would you go to a water park or lagoon when there's so many awesome beaches in Hawaii and Oahu. Well the simple answer is because we're all looking for something new and different to do once in a while with family and friends. And that exactly why we ended up at Wai Kai. It was a chance to hang out with our kids and friends before they returned to school after the winter break. The obstacle course was a ton of fun, we took advantage of the other water activities too, and we also opted to get a couple cabanas too so we could all hang out. It was perfect for our group of 20. Some of the restaurants were closed the day we went, but the takeout food at The Lookout was delicious. We also enjoyed some cold beverages too. BTW, the Nalo Lounge is a great option for $25/person if you want to store your belonging and take a shower before heading to your ext destination. For local families, take advantage of the kamaaina rates. The family is already excited about going back when the kids are back home this summer. read more

We had so much fun here! Ironically we were watching Wipeout on TV in the beginning of our trip and here we had our own Wipeout experience. We did the Aquaventure obstacle course and had a blast! You will fall, slip, and be humbled real fast. You need to wear a life vest and there are lifeguards watching. I was sent out to this place called - "Wai Kai" for work, and as I headed down to the Ewa Beach area, I originally thought I was going to a Golf Club, because "Wai Kai" sure sounded like one of those fancy schmancy golf clubs! Lol! Little did I know, as I approached the property, I realized I wasn't heading to a golf club, but I was actually going to a surf water park. Lol! It was rather slow the day I arrived, I guess because school is already back in session out here in da 808, so all I saw were a few tourists on the property. Wai Kai has an array of fun packages where you can rental a cabana & enjoy your day at the park. There is a man made Lagoon, perfect for water activities like - stand-up padding, kayaking, or even doing the water obstacle course. If your hungry,I noticed there were a few food vendors on the property, as well as a restaurant. The property looks like a great place to hold parties, as park is pretty spacious & clean. If your into surfing, there is a man-made surf park on the property, but you will probably have to see what the rates are to use the surf pool. Very fun atmosphere! Great pricing too. We got there at 10 AM and there were plenty of spots still available on the beach. I didn't think it was too crowded either. All of the water activities are very fun and they seem nice and well maintained too. We just did the two inflatable "obstacle courses" and had a blast! Lots of diving platforms, slides, and places to climb around. It was very easy to spend the full three hours in the water. A lot of people complain about the lifejackets that you were required to wear, but I actually was very grateful for it! It made it so I didn't really have to work hard on treading water when I was in the water and I did not get as exhausted as I otherwise would have! We also did the farmers market on Thursday afternoon and it was great! Lots of delicious food truck vendors, plenty of outdoor seating, good prices, plenty of parking too. Overall, a very fun way to spend a day on the island! This place really thought out stuff really well. The whole check-in process was easy even though I didn't really know what I was doing. It was easy to see the signs and just follow along what other people were doing. The lifeguards were really helpful. I never felt unsafe. We have gone to Wai Kai a few times, this was our 2nd time to the Food Truck Thursday evening event. Really enjoyed the location for it. Food trucks set around outside and crafts and market in middle row within the parking lot. The large grassy space was ideal for taking your food with you to sit on provided Mats. We brought chairs. There so many food choices it was hard to decide. We settled two different types of paella split orders from Santi's Paella. Both types were hardy and so Ono, feeding us both with one meal. After filling up on Paella, we found space for a dessert from Hit the Spot Sweets. We built our own with mini slapjacks, bananas, strawberries, whip cream and drizzle of chocolate. By this time we were busting at the seams. The early evening turned to night with beautiful soft colors in the sky and lights from Wai Kai with DJ blaring oldies in the background. A fun beach getaway if you don't want to fight the traffic to the North Shore or Waikiki. No issues parking, tons of parking. They have a dedicated parking lot. Lifeguards were attentive and made sure that everyone was following the rules, and the staff were very personable. I loved the obstacle course. We did the 3 hours and it was just perfect. It was like its own workout because if you fall in, you will have to lift yourself out or get help from a buddy. Even if you are coordinated, you will get wet. But it was superduper sunny. Make sure you bring sunscreen and reapply often. They have an adult course and a kids course. The kids course start as early as four and life vests are included, so everyone can enjoy regardless of skill level. The cafe had really good food. We enjoyed the chili and cheese nachos. The local drinks seem kind of expensive, but everything else seemed reasonable given today's prices for a takeout lunch. What a fun place. We found WaI Kai because there was an ad playing on Hawaiian Airlines as we were landing. Our family had a great time here. The 3 hour pass is plenty of time. If you have older kids, I recommend getting the 2 park pass for the peaks and aqua adventure. It's not just an obstacle course, but lots of slides and things to jump off of. We went on a weekday when it wasn't busy, but I could only imagine what this place is like on a busy day. There is not a lot of shade for people that are just watching. So, get there early for a table or lawn chair. The food is decent and decent prices for kids meals as well. Barrett was our server/bartender and he was so nice and helpful. Overall, we had a great time. Tip: Bring water bottles full of ice and you can refill them with water at the drinking fountain. read more

We celebrated my daughter's 12th birthday at Wai Kai and it was everything we hoped for and more! We booked the 10am-1pm AquaBana Mega Lounger, invited a bunch of her friends, and had the ultimate birthday bash on the water. The inflatable obstacle course was a total hit--the kids (and adults ) had a blast. The AquaBana gave us the perfect shady lounge space to relax, eat, and reset between runs. Super comfy, surprisingly spacious, and honestly felt a little VIP. We even tried the fish spa experience in the lagoon... weird but cool! The staff were friendly, facilities were spotless, and everything was really well organized. A few of us were already talking about coming back before we even left. it is expensive to surf here but, it's still fun and you're up vs. having to fight for waves. They have time limits on the bulk session. It wasn't like this before so this is a warning. If they're able to drop the prices some and have more flexibility on the bulk session durations I think they'll get more business. read more

Aquaventure review & deets~ Keiki Course- Ages 4-6 years old and adult supervision is required. It's a small course.. Aloha Course- Ages 7+. Tons of obstacles, jumping platforms, and helpful stairs to get back up onto the floating course throughout. Waterfront cabana- So worth it!! I'm so glad we booked the last cabana because boy was it hot. There were some umbrellas over the beach lawn chairs which were free but they seemed to have been taken before 10! Lockers were $5 each. There is also a transportation option to and from your hotel. Life jackets are required no matter how good of a swimmer you are. They close the course twice for breaks during the 10am-4pm session. It's about 30mins long. There were multiple lifeguards stationed around and throughout the course. I called Wednesday and a kind lady picked up and helped answer my questions. If you're a local, make sure to sign up for the Kamaaina membership ID! Also, when planning and gathering those who RSVP'd, call to ensure they have availability if you have a date set in mind. Sometimes they sell out. We celebrated my son's birthday here with his football friends. The boys had a blast! We picked up lunch & desserts at the Boardwalk Cafe. Time seemed to have flown by and I'm so glad we opted for the 10-4pm session instead of the sunset session 4-6pm. The music was bumping, vibes were great and the weather was perfect, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Hubby and I are already planning our next visit. If there was a con, I would probably have to say the green water. It wasn't as stink as I had imagined on the day we went, but up close, it did have a smell..like rotten eggs.. My aunty said there is a free boat on Thursdays where they inform you about the water filtering in and out, if you're concerned. The AquaVenture Park obstacle course fun as an adult -- for about 20 minutes and then I was done. The kids were able to go for hours, but I will say that it grew more and more crowded as the day went on. In the afternoon, there were some very rough older kids who were being very aggressive with a group of nine and 10-year-olds. When we complained to the lifeguards, they talked to them briefly, but really didn't do anything, and it was clear that the lifeguards were paying no attention to what was going on whatsoever. Furthermore, I do not understand how you can have a water activity oriented place that has bathrooms but no changing room so that you end up with these huge lines for the bathroom because everybody is using the bathrooms to change?! It seems really obvious and like something that these guys should get on fixing right away. read more

I was a loyal customer until their service starting going downhill. Purchased a 10 session surf package in 2024- i was told upon purchase it did not have an expiration date but they changed the system and now they do. One Manager (Valerie) gave me one month to use it all or the rest of the sessions will be automatically be lost and non-refundable. I asked for a two months extension since I've had several knee procedures and need to space it out but this request was denied. Even after I told them I can provide medical documentation. I used to go their almost weekly and even brought friends but now I completely stopped. I'm hoping they improve customer service so they won't be closing down in the near future. read more

We had an amazing time at Wai Kai! The Aquaventure is absolutely worth the price, especially if you're old enough to enjoy the full obstacle course. Make sure to get there before the first break at 12-12:30 to maximize your time. They have two 30-minute breaks from 12-12:30 and 2-2:30. I highly recommend visiting on a weekday to avoid the crowds. I've heard weekends can get so busy that kids have to wait for life jackets--imagine paying $30-$40 just for your kid to wait around half the day! The boardwalk cafe is fantastic with great food at reasonable prices. Although I was shocked that the shave ice is $8, I still wanted to buy two because of how hot it was and how refreshing I knew the shave ice would be. It's the perfect spot for both locals and tourists, and well worth visiting over and over and over again. Next time my husband and I come around, we'll be taking pre-workout and drinking a protein shake because man, that was a workout! Falling will occur, but it's a lot of fun. I suggest bringing a group because it's the craziest game of tag you could play! Don't forget to stop by their Thursday night markets with the most and best local grinds that the west side can offer. Do I think it's better than a waterpark? Honestly, yes. Especially for the price and the simplicity! Overall, Wai Kai is a must-visit! We'll definitely be back. read more

Hands down the best physical activity on the island for the whole family! Such a wonderful atmosphere and all the employees seem pretty happy. It's good that they added this to the west side of the island, added more jobs and gave some people a fun thing to do. We had a nice drink at the lookout restaurant and watched the surfers try the wave pool. They have pizza you can take out as well for the kids. The time to come is at opening, it's empty and you'll have the whole place to yourselves until about 11am. It can get chilly if the wind picks up, my friend used a spring wetsuit when she goes and it's a smart idea. Everyone going to the obstacle course needs to wear a life jacket as well. I forget how fun it is to just wear a life jacket and just float around, I honestly could have done that all day. It should really be an added attraction, just float. Have a fun time and remember, take it easy! You will injure yourself. It's so funny seeing people slip and slide, it's the best thing. Be safe and respect everyone's space and tip well! read more

I never thought I would visit mainly because I'm not big on waterparks.. especially waterparks in murky water but my Brother had invited us and I'm glad we had the opportunity, If able, I'd definitely reserve a Cabana!! Even if you are able to get a lawn chair with an umbrella, you will fry! We lucked out and was able to reserve one last minute for about 4 hours on a Saturday. There is a smaller area for the keiki but with the Parents trying to spend time and supervise the younger ones, the pathway to get to the rest of the obstacle course can get obstructed, not a big deal. Some of the older kids are a$$holes. straight up. It's mixing a lot of different age groups and people. A Teenage boy came walking out of a course b/c another boy tried to swing at him.. ruined the whole vibe. Lifeguards are posted up but still, it can be a bit chaotic and overwhelming. The Lookout Restaurant was good, they had to close early so we didn't spend too much time there. Just enough to scarf our burgers down and get back in the water, Overall we did have a great time. Great place for family fun for all ages. My family booked the Aqua Venture which is basically a huge inflatable obstacle course on the water. They had a separate section for the smaller kiddos. You need a ticket for the Aqua Venture but if you just want to watch there are tables near the restaurant without paying for a tix. In order to chill by the sand you do require a ticket/band which really didn't seem enforced. There's a coffee shop with snacks and cocktails and a restaurant so you do have options for food. My son decided he wanted to go here for his birthday with cousins and family. We did the obstacle courses! Calling was extremely helpful, they were so accommodating to our party and all my questions, and helped secure best pricing with Kama'aina and monthly membership discounts. Much cheaper than I expected and (and unexpected for the value!) Most of the kids were 7+ so they were able to enjoy the larger course..we also got a water-front cabana which was so worth it to just be able to sit in the shade for water or food and sunscreen. Tons of parking and easy to get down to the check-in area (make sure you fill out your waiver ahead of time--this saved us!) They also have large screens there to fill out in case any of your party didn't do beforehand. The course opened promptly at 10, and everyone can line up to get life jackets a bit beforehand. After getting your lifejacket, (all different sizes even for little ones!) there's another brief check-in, a video and someone explains the rules of the obstacle course. Then it's freedom! Even just running (or walking) on the course you will probably fall on the course or into the water--so leave valuables in a rentable locker or somewhere safe. A lifeguard said a lot of people lose phones, glasses etc. We had a few younger kiddos who had to stay on the 4-6yr course..which I was nervous would make them jealous they couldn't get on the bigger one but it was just enough for them. (If anything, I'd add some more longer running areas for the little guys too) but because it was attached to the bigger course, you could easily spot your kiddos (and adults) doing the bigger course while still being able to watch the little guys. Our 10 year old kiddos did not need an adult supervision, but anyone under 10, an adult is required on the course for every 4 children . The younger course requires an adult for each child. They will offer you a discount for an adult ticket if you are only going to be on smaller course. While on the bigger course, there was an injury (someone hurt their shoulder jumping off a high apparatus). As soon as it was a problem, the lifeguards were QUICK! They blew whistles and had everyone sit quietly on the course (they did this in record time!) Another lifeguard came up in a boat to grab the injured person, we all clapped and it was back to fun. As a parent, really helpful to see how aware all lifeguards were and how they really looked over the areas really well. The lifeguards were all so friendly and helpful. They definitely let the kids play as they should, but were quick to blow the whistle to any kids going out of bounds or in an area they shouldn't be. We finished our reservation block (10am-1pm) and it was the perfect amount for the ages we had...we got delicious popsicles from the bar area and all in all had an epic day, and he said it was the best birthday ever We will be back again soon, thank you so much for such a fun day Wai Kai! read more

What a cool place... Wai Kai is a place I was really curious to visit and what better time to spend it than with my bestie's mom since staying in Ewa than to do a short drive to this amazing location she kept asking if we were still in Ewa lol! This super extensive piece of land that only just a fraction is being used has a great start of an idea to create an area for most which is quite an experience. The main level is the attraction "The Lineup" with two channels 30ft and 65ft is a spectacular vision that can be viewed just almost every angle is a sight to see as they surf using the provided surfboard or body board as well and it's open for all skill levels. Surrounded by umbrella shaded tables and with a bar nearby you're able to chill as you watch your loved ones or others ride the waves, food is available at The Lookout that's right above The Lineup giving it's obvious name. On the lower level is the Wai Kai Lagoon where I see some stand up paddling, kayak equipment and even a few paddling out in a swan vessel looks like such a serene way to enjoy the fabulous water views Ewa has to offer and in the midst of that are a few floating cabanas but apparently the site states they have so much more fun items for use this it's amazing! Along with my bestie's mom we were just at awe of it all and wished that her family had found out about this place earlier as it would be a great option for everyone to find their place here to relax, enjoy and have fun. Lots of parking and will definitely be back as every Thursday night they have a Farmers Market with a bunch of local vendors making this place a environment to celebrate all things local. After shopping at Waikele, we decided to check out Oahu's newest attraction before heading back to the city to blow even more money. EXPERIENCE: A tad off the beaten path, in an area of Ewa Beach that's in its infancy of development sits this oceanfront park. No fees to park or enter. The looming building that greets you houses The Lookout (one of three restaurants on the property and where we had a lunchtime toot) with the wave pool and its mechanics below, along with an outdoor bar and wave poolside seating. Off in the distance are the other two restaurants, Kitchen Door and underneath it, Boardwalk Cafe. The Sessions gift shop is next door and is where you register for the park's activities. Below that sits Nalo Kai Club, an air conditioned lounge with locker rooms & showers. Rentals of pedal boards, kayaks, standup paddle boards and inflatable "cabanas" that sport booth-style seating and a table are available for use on their man-made lagoon, complete with a small private sandy beach. For land lovers, you can rent beach chairs and cabanas. On this particular Saturday, there were a few souls in the wave pool surfing, body boarding and taking surf lessons, a handful at Kitchen Door and Boardwalk Cafe, no one on the beach, one person in the lagoon, with the majority at The Lookout. Not very busy on a weekend so hopefully they can flourish. OVERALL: Very nice digs. Definitely would return for the eateries. read more

The young lady at the register was very nice and sweet! Since it was our first time, she gave us some suggestions. We ordered the mochi pancakes and avocado toast. The pancakes were huge and fluffy! Something different but super cool place! We enjoyed our time here today. We came for Happy hour which is between 4-6 pm. We ordered their Mochiko chicken, Kalua pork sliders, Avocado toast, loaded tots and panipopo for dessert. I would say I liked their sliders, tots and Mochiko chicken the most. For drinks, we ordered their POG, coconut margarita and a couple beers for the hubby. Drinks were good too! When our final bill came out, we were surprised to see all of our items ordered were Half Off which was so awesome! Our bellies were satisfied and our wallets wasn't hurting so much! Lol. It doesn't make sense to live in HI and we have a man-made wave pool. Wasn't that made fun of in the 80s movie North Shore? And yet, I enjoyed being a spectator and feel relaxed. Being there feels like a whole other world, like I was in Florida. My sister and I got to Wai Kai at 4 pm on a Friday afternoon. Plenty of free parking is available and a few EV stations. As you step foot the "park" area, the Lineup, the wave pool, is right up front. There's plenty of seating around the wave pool to be a spectator. You can order food and drinks while watching. And the main bathroom in this area has many stalls and very clean. Upstairs, overlooking the Lineup, is the Lookout restaurant. Not very busy at the time we went so we were sat down right away and against the glass railing to enjoy the wave riders and the lake. Yup, there's a lake for the water toys they have available, for a fee of course. Before I forget, live music is from 4 - 6 pm. So listening to the waves + local music = a great way to wind down for the weekend. The restaurant initially looks small. But the kitchen is in the middle and there's a second part of the restaurant on the other side. So the restaurant is actually narrow looking but wide. Each side has a bar of its own. Our server Nick was great. We started off with drinks. Unfortunately, the Lookout doesn't serve blended drinks but blended drinks are available at the bar downstairs from where we were at. So I ordered a virgin coconut mojito which was really refreshing. My sister ordered the lilikoi margarita which she regretted later as she forgot that lilikoi can be sour and yet she finished her drink. For dinner, I ordered the fish tacos which I thought was really good. My sister ordered the mochiko chicken. Also delicious. However, the chicken doesn't come with sides so she ordered white rice and Mac salad, which was just ok, and we had to get the tater tots. While waiting for our meal, I remembered that there are membership fees. And since my brother-in-law is a surfer and SUPs when there's no surf in the west side or Ewa area, I thought my sister could get him a membership. So I looked it up online and found a package that would fit his love for surf and other Water activities which is $150/month. So during the slow season for his work, this could work for him when school is back in session. It sounds like a great gift idea if your home is already filled with all the water toys for your water adventurer. Also, while we were waiting for our meal and watching the surfers, we learned that a group of up to 10 people get up to 45-mins to surf. As I timed it, it took less than 5-minutes for each round. So each person gets at least 9 times to catch a wave. And us spectators, we aaahed when someone wiped out right away and we were happy to see that person improve each time they got in. These wave riders get their own cheering section. And the kids are so good! It was especially amazing to see the little girls rip. I don't even know these kids and I was so proud of them. Honestly, all the onlookers were proud of them. We visited the store called Sessions. It is here where we learned from the salesperson that there are 3 restaurants on the grounds, one lakeside which is only open for breakfast and lunch called the Boardwalk, and the fine dining restaurant next door to the store along with the Lookout being the third restaurant. The lake itself is large and has at least 6 floating cabanas. Great for the summer to come. I look forward to seeing peoples reviews regarding this amenity. I haven't a need but I have it in the back of my mind that this is an option if my family needs an idea or venue for a family event and usually that means a wedding. It's on their website if you're looking for an event venue. There's a whole other section of Wai Kai that hasn't been developed yet. For me, the existing facility is already world-class so I look forward to seeing what's available when it's all done. Yup, I used world-class making this a 5-star experience. read more

Scott G. and I decided to check out Wai Kai. We thought wed find it easily without directions...little did we know that it wasnt where we thought it was lol. Finally we went into the Hoakalei area and found the Wai Kai signage. Next time, we should GPS haha. Walking into Wai Kai, we were greeted by Valerie who is one of the staff. Wai Kai is fortunate to have her as one of their employees! She gave us a tour of the marina - where you can rent floating platforms, paddle boats, SUPs, and more. We also saw the boardwalk where dogs with leashes are invited to come with their parent. There is the Nalo Kai Club in which kamaāina pay around $500/monthly for a family of four. It includes a posh lounge, bathroom with lockers and showers, unlimited time on the floating platforms, four surfing passes for the Line Up (the wave pool) and more. Around Wai Kai, there are several restaurants, a gift shop and a cocktail bar where you can watch the surfers catch ready made waves. It was pretty cool to see the pro surfers doing all kinds of tricks and also newbies learning how to maneuver their board. Overall, I am happy that we felt welcomed here. Wai Kai - Surf, play or kayak! - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Ewa Beach, Hawaii

We wanted to check out the new "wave pool" in Ewa Beach that everyone's been talking about, so one Saturday afternoon, we did just that! We pulled up to Wai Kai and it was like being in another state. I literally felt like I was in Florida. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. To be specific, the facility and amenities are brand-spanking new. They are situated along a pristine, manmade lagoon, and you can dine and shop at a few of their food concepts on-site. We did notice it was pretty ADA-friendly, as we were pushing my son around in his stroller. The elevator for the restaurant overlooking the wave pool, the Lookout, was hard to find. Also, the wheelchair access to the lagoon toy rental area was a bit of a walk in the hot sun, and once we got down to the gate, it was locked. Bummer. To get the story, we went to the gift shop to talk to a representative who gave us an overview of the place and sold us a $1 membership for the year. The membership gives us 10 percent off in the gift shop, and a kamaaina water toy rental rate of $40 for 4 hours - not too bad! If we wanted to rent a kayak for an hour, say, we'd still have to pay $40, so it pays to come for a few hours to enjoy. I hope to come back for the rentals - they have kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and even an outrigger canoe! They had these cool floating cabanas you can tie your kayak up to and take a break, too. We ate lunch at the Lookout. The hostess wasn't exactly friendly and not knowledgeable either. We noticed they were grilling hamburgers and hot dogs downstairs for Memorial Day Weekend. When we asked if we could order that in the restaurant, the hostess said no, but our server said yes. Sigh. We couldn't get a table close enough to the wave to watch it the whole time, but if we stood up we could see surfers taking on the wave. Pretty cool! Lunch was yummy overall and fairly priced, if not a little expensive. I know there is another higher-end option on site as well, and there's a brunch and coffee concept, too. Overall, it's a neat place to check out, but definitely feels more mainlandy than anything. Hopefully it does well. read more
