I attended my cousin's wedding here in late August 2024. They originally had wanted to have it at Kualoa Ranch, but ultimately landed at the 11-acre Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute (Phase 1, the largest square footage of the three available Phases). Located near Paradise Cove, the Ko'Olina Four Seasons, and Disney Aulani. Lanikūhonua's lush natural beauty was the perfect tropical backdrop for my cousin's picture-perfect wedding day. Over 160 guests (family and friends) gathered for this "Filipino [SF] Bay Area Love Story" destination wedding. We had private shuttle service from Waikiki to Kapolei for the 4:30PM ceremony, 5:00PM cocktail hour, and 6:00-10:00PM reception. Sunny for the ceremony facing the water, provided woven fans to stay cool and shade your eyes/faces. The lawns are flat, but considering it's grassy, flat shoes or wedges recommended for the ladies. We all witnessed a gorgeous Golden Hour and a stunning sunset with a scenic ocean view. Palm trees, open sky, ocean breezes, sunshine, sand, and sea -- splendid. There were two usable well-manicured lawn areas where they had the ceremony aisle seating set up, the bar/cocktail hour tables and area for gifts/guestbook, catering, and the covered/canopy area for reception dining tables, dance floor/deejay, etc. There were dedicated restrooms specifically for this Phase/event, which were alright (3 stalls and 2 sinks for the wahines). Attended a wedding in Sept 2024. Private property is beautiful with an ocean view. If you plan on having a wedding here, be leary that there are 3 phases on the property meaning that are can be 3 wedding held at the same time. During the event I attended, there was a co-event at the time so you can hear the other party's celebration going but a good distance away. One critique was the men's restroom was out of paper towels an hour into the event, upon leaving (5 hours later), it was still out. Not sure if it was ever replenished in between. With Covid, we've had to look for outdoor locations to accommodate the type of party we wanted. We've searched everywhere for a location that would be clean, has a bathroom, and lots of parking. When we came across Lanikuhonua on the internet, we thought we hit the jackpot! Come to find out, this was actually one of my dads Jobsites back in 2017. I guess we never really knew what it was called back then but now it felt like destiny. My dads company graded phase 3 and also built the coral rock walls. After doing some research we discovered it was a non-profit organization that encouraged Kamaaina (local) to visit and learn about the richness of the Hawaiian Culture. We thought awesome. Let's inquire. We started to email back and forth with Marie Wong. First question she asked was, are you a bride? I said no so she continued to ask what type of event was I planning to have. I told her a first birthday and she didn't seem too interested. I thought nothing of it and continued to inquire about available dates. Please note that their website says their events calendar is up to date very regularly and is reflective of what dates are taken and what dates are available. It isn't. We spent probably a week going back and forth on dates and as you can imagine, email takes awhile. Long story short, I called and asked her about the dates and I finally got a date reserved. While on the phone she noted no inflatables and jump-houses were allowed as this ruined their grass. I said fine, we'll have other activities for the kids. We set up a date to go look at the location and it was nice. Phase 1 is what we asked for and we had a few issues. 1. It's hard to place the tent up because there are coconut trees in weird spots. 2. Locals are using the beach of which it overlooks 3. It's eight next to paradise cove so if you're having an evening event, it'll be loud 4. The other phases are screened with just bushes so if there is another event going on you'll be able to see and hear their event 5. The bathroom is just like a public restroom. We then waited for a contract because Marie said she was going to issue the contract but didn't. After two weeks, she issued it and the price was a surprise to me. She said it was $6,287 for the use of space which accommodates the # of guests I anticipated to have. Then on top of that she said payment needed to be made in full in two weeks. Now a lot of you who are reading this probably are thinking, we'll if she doesn't have the money she should go somewhere she can afford. No, that's not the issue, the issue is the price for renting just a space that includes no chairs or tents. Lanikuhonua is not willing to work with you because my tent vendor emailed and called to let me know they have a event the same day as my sons birthday but we're willing to set up at anytime the night before and requested to breakdown the early morning after. Marie told me that charge was $5,000 to do so. Yikes. That's even after the tent vendor said they can come at 12 midnight and pick up 6:00am. I emailed Marie letting her know of my shock and then she responds, I told you from the beginning. She didn't. It's sad that the motto of this "non profit organization" is not being honored. We are taking our money and getting a ballroom instead. If you are curious about other things, go ahead and ask me. I attached a few pics. It's a nice place but after all expenses, it'll be the same as a hotel ballroom. The hotel is better because they can assure you if there are weather hiccups, you're covered. read more

Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute is located right next to the Four Seasons in Ko'Olina. This beautiful event space is home to many weddings and private functions. I recently attended a wedding ceremony and reception on the grounds and it was absolutely beautiful. The ceremony took place facing the ocean with beautiful palm trees framing the couple as they said their vows. We enjoyed a cocktail hour on the grass and then transitioned to dinner and dancing on the lawn. The views were picturesque and gorgeous especially as the sun began to set. The space is very clean and well maintained. It was lovely. There were only a few cons when considering your wedding here. Paradise cove luau is right next door so if you start your ceremony late, you may be getting some carry over sound from the luau activities. Our wedding started at 5:30 running an hour behind schedule so we could hear all the drums going on next door. The bathrooms are also okay. The couple rented nice portapotties that were actually nicer than the existing bathrooms. Overall, this location is beautiful and I really enjoyed attending the wedding here. CONGRATULATIONS to Micah Christenson (Setter for Team USA Volleyball Rio '16, Kamehameha Schools, and USC) and his beautiful wife, Brooke, on their Storybook Wedding on August 28, 2016! Prior to today, I had never even known about this venue. Lanikuhonua, "Where Heaven Meets Earth", is basically a huge grassy, flat lawn with the gorgeous beach as a backdrop. Palm trees, fabulous sunset, gentle trade winds, fresh air, and clear, starry skies add to the natural ambiance that people might envision as Paradise. LOCATION: driving west on the H-1 Freeway, take the Ko Olina cutoff, pass the guard shack, and look for the sign, "Lanikuhonua". It's the property on the right hand side, before the Four Seasons Resort and Disney's Aulani Resort. PARKING: there was an attendant at another gate who entered a code which raised the bar. She suggested parking at the second entrance which would be closer to the Reception Table. There was no charge for guests. There was no ticket or pass. Free parking - yay! AMENITIES: the women's restroom was convenient and clean. There were three stalls and a counter with two sinks. Between the sinks was a jar of mints and a container of toothpicks - wow! Very classy! FLOOR PLAN: as we entered, we were greeted by a "Welcome" sign and were offered bottled water, frozen local popsicles, fans, and flip flops - very thoughtful! It was a sunny, hot August day - we sure made use of the fans - some people used them as shade! The flip flops came in handy for women whose high heels were sinking in the grass. If it were a rainy day, more guests might be wearing them! All of the groomsmen and the fathers of the bride and groom were wearing "rubbah slippahs" - very casual and comfortable attire! We proceeded to the Reception Table where we got our Seat Assignments. They were in alphabetical order and clipped to small wooden flip flops made by the Father of the Bride! In the middle of the table, there were boxes that looked like small suitcases where we dropped off our gifts. At the end of the table, there were wooden oars that the Father of the Bride made for guests to sign! Above this Reception area, strings of Plumeria Blossoms hung from the trees and swayed in the breeze while dispersing a delicate fragrance! There was a Refreshment Station and a Pupu (appetizer) Station which occupied guests' time while the newlyweds signed documents and took photos with family and the bridal party. The Gazebo area, at the edge of the lawn, had two sets of seats which formed a center aisle for the parents of the Bride and Groom to enter, followed by the bridal party and the Bride and her father. The guests faced the ocean (it's a public beach), boogie boarders, swimmers, fishermen, and the setting sun... Under the largest white tent were tables for guests to sit and enjoy the live band and the program - with a wooden dance floor at the edge of the tent! Other small tents housed the DJ, the band, and the buffet line. Yes - everything was well-thought out, in case of rain! We were very lucky and were blessed with a perfect day! The tents shaded us from the direct sunlight since the festivities started at 4:30pm. It was dark by the time the happy couple cut the cake and tossed the bouquet and garter. What a wonderful way to start a new life together! Thanks to the staff and management of Lanikuhonua! Everything ran so smoothly! Our tables were cleared of disposable utensils, plates and cups very efficiently! Guests roamed from station to station so effortlessly! We transitioned from ceremony to reception so easily! Lanikuhonua was the perfect place for our wedding reception. It lives up to its name, "Where Heaven Meets Earth." The site is very well-maintained, clean, and just beautiful. Communication was easy with Marie Wong, who took great care of us. She was very responsive and patient with us since this was a destination wedding and we had so many questions. We were able to schedule a site tour with Auntie Nettie when we were in Hawaii a year out from our wedding and we knew we had made the right choice for venue. We had our reception in Phase 2 and it was the perfect size for our layout. We were scared because the week leading up to our wedding, it was raining every day on the island and we had no idea how wet/muddy the grounds would be. The day of our reception, it wasn't muddy or wet at all. Auntie Nettie, who runs Lanikuhonua, told us 2 days before that it had rained hard and it was still muddy. Thankfully, for our reception, it wasn't. The weather was beautiful and the sunset was gorgeous. Everyone's jaws dropped when they saw the views! Gorgeous estate owned by the Campbell family out on the west side near Aulani and the Koolina lagoons. It can be rented for parties and weddings or events but it's pretty pricey and you rent per hour and per square ft. We used this venue for my brother's wedding ceremony for 3 hours, and let me tell you-you will pay for it. They even make you pay for the time it takes crew to set up the space when you don't even get to enjoy it. The grassy lawn is the perfect place to have tents, chairs etc, and it offers a fantastic view into the ocean. It's grass to beach in no time flat. read more

where do I even begin?! we were so lucky to have our wedding here... mahalo - Every phase of the property is just breathtaking gorgeous! we ended up choosing Phase 2 mainly because it is the most segregated one from both the hotels and the beaches where people hang out (who can blame them?!). Even though we only had 80 guests, we were able to utilize all of the area by having dancefloor outside the tent, a bar and a lounge set. - Aunty Netty (sorry if I'm misspelling the name!) is the person who we should thank for keeping the property so beautiful. Her family looked after Lanikuhonua and now she does it. It's obvious that there is so much love and respect put into this place. -The management was extremely nice, we jumped into a contract after seeing the property, then realized it would be very expensive to host a wedding there. The management team were very accommodating every time we changed our minds about having just the ceremony there or including the reception as well . It was a lot of $ for us, but at the end it was completely worth it, as we were able to create the most memorable experience! P.s. many of our guests said it was the most beautiful spot for a wedding. -overall, could not have been happier (unless the price for venue was lower haha) with our experience. If I could afford it I've had my wedding here. First off it is absolutely gorgeous. Its open grassy, right on the shore so it gets a nice ocean breeze. Big open field for children, activities, guests, etc Parking is good here as well, usually for events they have someone directing traffic to the parking lot. For the first time, I'm just going to list some pros and cons about the place. Pros: - Classic Hawaiian wedding seaside backdrop. - It has a nice huge lawn area that even has a stage. - In addition to restrooms on the premises and a small seaside covered area. - There is also a very small beach protected by lava. So, no large waves. - Parking was abundant. - If you had a very large wedding (approx. est. 300), It would do well here. - Easy to find. Cons: - In the afternoon it was HOT. When I say hot I mean humid heat, but it did get a breeze off the mountain later on that cooled everything down. - There were times you could hear the announcer and drumming of Paradise Cove (http://www.yelp.com/biz/paradise-cove-luau-kapolei) next door over what was happening at the wedding. - If the bride is walking from the entrance to either the beach or the grassy ocean side area where people will get married, it's a very long 100 yard (at least) walk. - It's mostly grass, so ladies don't wear your spiked heels (the fiancee found this one out). - You have to bring everything in and take everything out. - It's out in Kapolei, which is quite a hike from Honolulu. The epitome of a beach wedding. Who wouldn't want to get married by the ocean and watching the sun set with your loved ones? My whole purpose for visiting Oahu was for this very reason. My friend got married here the other day and it was just PERFECT. There's a large space to do whatever you want. Remember to bring bug spray, because the mosquitoes were out and hungry! For her wedding she had the reception and dance floor under a white tent and then smaller tents which was for checking-in, finding your table, buffet dinner, candy station and where the ceremony was going to take place. There was even a turtle in the cove who graced our presence. If I had the money and wanted to get married in Hawai'i, this would definitely be the place to get hitched! Lanikuhonua means 'Where heaven meets the earth' and this place is just that. It is one of the most gorgeous places on Oahu. When my husband and I decided to get married in Oahu, we wanted a place that was unique and preferably not in Honolulu where there wasn't much privacy to our wedding. I researched all the venues in Oahu and passed up Lani quite a few times. Since Lani is a nonprofit organization and their web site was being revamped, I didn't give them a second look. But when I was looking for a photographer, I kept seeing Lanikuhonua come up and it was beautiful. So I decided to call them and have them send me more pictures. When my husband and I went out to Oahu to finalize our plans, we instantly fell in love with Lani and knew that was the place we wanted to get married at. Lani is very well cared for and they have the best sunsets on the island. Since the venue did not come with any vendors, we were able to be creative and bring on any vendor we desired. You also have the option to have your wedding on their private beach or on the lawn among all the coconut and palm trees. My favorite place to Photograph a wedding on Oahu...the place was properly designed, landscape architecture is great, well maintained...lots of sun, shade, breeze, ocean views...the property is stunning and perfect for weddings. Not long ago, The Ihilani hotel took over control of the grounds and have been doing a pretty good job running it. Sometimes they book two weddings at the same time and can easily accommodate both of them because there are Phase I and Phase 2. ABSOLUTELY. STUNNING. It is the perfect place to get married! We had a small ceremony with 15 people and needed a place to conduct a civil ceremony and take photographs. My wedding planner recommended Lanikuhonua because we were staying the Ko Olina area and because it's beautiful. It's a public beach, so everyone is allowed in; at the same time, you aren't allowed to ask anyone to move when you're taking pictures (photoshop can take care of the stray people though). It cost up $50 for a beach permit, so this is a nice budget-friendly option. You are able to rent the grassy areas for a higher cost though (which you see in some of the pictures people have posted on yelp here). It's all up to how you envision your wedding. Pictures here turned out beautiful! With the waves crashing and the beautiful mountain in the back....everyone who's seen the pictures is in awe. Lanikuhonua truly lives up to it's name: "Where Heaven Meets Earth". PS. To get to the beach area, you need to follow the paved path until it looks like it ends. It was a blessing to attend a good friend & co-worker's wedding here. The views from Lanikuhonua are images that will stay with me forever. The photo opportunities (and I take a lot) are priceless. This location was quite perfect, to be honest. It's what I expect of a Hawaiian location wedding. The palm trees, the ocean, the breeze, the blue sky (which just hours prior were rainy & glooomy) was amazing. It was picture perfect as many things in the Hawaiian islands are. I cant stress that enough. I really enjoyed my time there. Like I said, it had rained up until the wedding ceremony started, so the grounds were still dampened by the showers. Other than that I do not really have any other complaints except I wish the restrooms were updated just a little bit. They werent bad. Quite typical of restrooms by the beach (but cleaner) but since this was a cultural center of sorts & a wedding venue often, I thought it would be nice for them to expand & upgrade the restroom situation. Just a little outdated IMO. There are lots of beautiful palm trees at Lanikuhonua... they are some of my favorite things to photograph and I was having a field day. I understand that all you are paying for when renting this place for a wedding is the grounds and everything else is on you & the wedding coordinator to provide. My friends did a great job along with their WC in planning such a beautiful memory for all of us to share & enjoy. There was a big white canopy that housed all the guests with a dance floor. They hired caterers that served delicious food. They hired a bartender that was posted up just outside of the canopy. They also had a DJ provide the soundtrack for the night. They had Liliha cater the desserts for the guests in place of traditional wedding cake slices which I thought was genius and delicious at the same time. And if you know what that bakery is known for, you know what we had... Simply perfection in a few bites. WOW... They also hired caterers to cook up fries (standard french or sweet potato) along with LA dirt dogs (bacon wrapped hot dogs) as the late-night wedding reception post-dancing & drinking all night snack. Again.... genius and oh so very appreciated. Make sure you catch the sunset and the other beautiful & breathtaking views these grounds have to offer. Plenty of parking. Lanikuhonua is in the shadows of the JW Marriott in Ko'olina. It's a little bit of a drive from Waikiki but our thoughtful friends arranged for a shuttle service for their guests from Waikiki to Kapolei. I miss you Lanikohonua... We got married here (phase 2) on June 9, 2018. I knew that I wanted our destination wedding to be outdoors, rather than indoors in a hotel ballroom. Lanikuhonua was the perfect place. I am so thankful that we got to use this amazing cultural institute for our wedding ceremony/reception. Our ceremony was at the low-wall near the secret beach/pool, and the ocean made such a breath-taking backdrop. My husband and I were able to go out onto the beach for great sunset photos on the sand and rocks. We decided to not get a tent, rather our guests ate/dined/danced under the open sky. We strung chandeliers and bistro lights from the trees, it was simply a magical place! Our bartender used the hut, and we set up a dance floor right next to that. I cannot say enough about how magical and beautiful this place is. read more

The grounds are divine, the location has plenty of parking and is easy for guests to find, the security keeps the property private and closed off for your event, and they charge relatively little compared to everyone else! The Auntie who lives on site is the property caretaker and grew up on the property. It is her home, she loves it, and if you treat her and the aina with respect she'll go out of her way to make your experience wonderful. In my opinion, one of the most breathtaking venues on the island of Oahu. You don't need extensive decor because the grounds are so stunning. Has a phenomenal view of Oahu's west coast which means perfect sunsets every day. Keep in mind, your guests cannot go down to the ocean but bride/groom can go down for pictures. Since it's a cultural institute there are quite a few rules in place (nothing outrageous) to preserve the area but we were happy to respect them. I would recommend a planner that has worked there before who is familiar with the grounds/rules/team to make it easier. Small things that may be a turn off to others are: venue requires a certified planner, has an early end-time (10pm) but the beauty of the property supersedes both of those concerns. read more

RE: LOCATION * DO NOT follow the google maps instructions to 1001 Kamokila Boulevard, Kapolei, HI! It will map you to a totally different place. Two different sets of my friends got lost on the way there because they followed the google map instructions. *Also, the indicator on Yelp's map of this place is also off. For the best directions to the venue itself, go to http://www.lanikuhonua.org/contact/address and check out the map. RE: ACCESS FROM MARRIOTT * They closed off the shortcut between the Marriott and Lanikuhonua prompting you to walk a big u-turn on side streets to get there. It really SUCKS if you are a bride getting ready at the Marriott and decide you want to walk to the venue. I feel it's also pretty inconvenient for anyone else who has to make that walk. At least, please have someone on standby with a car to shuttle bride to the venue. * That short closed walkway I mentioned is located along the southeastern fencing of the parking lot. Coming back to the Marriott from the wedding, my family was able to crawl between fences on the Lanikuhonua side and climb over the fence using the wooden handrails going to the Marriott side. This was in our formal wear and in darkness. It was such a hassle. RE: PARKING * There is free parking at Lanikuhonua. The parking at the Marriott is a gouging $30/day for guests and $50 for non-guests. Despite rumors, you won't get a discount from going to the pool bar. read more

Greatest place for a wedding. Even if the west side is scorching, somehow Lanikuhonua finds a way to be pleasant. I can't explain it. The sunsets linger, the ocean glistens, the lawn is manicured beautifully without completely compromising its natural beauty. "Where heaven meets the earth" is its literal meaning. One of the nicest and most beautiful places on the island. This is a perfect place to visit or to have a wedding. We take our students here with our Kupuna. Once there our students meet an additional 4 Kupunas. The Kupunas take our students on a tour, they get to play drums, and they also participate in a few more Hawaiian Games. The kids enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. It's so relaxing and peaceful. We go here ever year and hope to go back again next Spring. read more

What can I say about this place??? Its absolutely breath taking for a wedding but it comes with a steep price tag and some sweat. While no one can argue about how beautiful this place is, this place does require quite a bit of planning and cha ching ching for a full on wedding (ceremony and reception). First off the ground is all you are renting. There are three phases, all very different in terms of landscape. The two popular ones are phase I and phase II. Because its a blank canvas, you can literally turn it into whatever you WANT :) Unfortunately, because its a blank canvas and all outdoor, rental of things add up very quickly and I do emphasize quickly. The rental cost I think is base on time of year, day of week, time of day and number of guests. Their rules are very strict. Everyone has to be off the grounds by 10pm which means your last dance will probably be somewhere around 9:45ish. I do appreciate the privacy unlike some other wedding sites you may have lookers nearby. The other issue is that there can be two weddings going on at one time. This happened to me and well I didnt hear them (the other wedding) except when they did the lion/dragon dance due to the drums and symbols but the rest of the time/evening, we didnt even know they were next door. Timing is everything with this location since you can book only as far out as 14 months. They really stay true to this so dont try calling or emailing until you are at the 14 month mark from your special day. This place is huge so space is never an issue either. Pictures come out gorgeous and the grounds are well kept. Parking? Hah! No problem. I think its a 200 parking lot space and free of charge. It does get hot and humid but the odds of it raining here is very slim. I love this place its just in retrospect it was pretty darn pricey and when I say pricey I mean the cost was as much as a five star hotel by the time I accounted for all the basic rentals that would normally be part of a hotel wedding package. With all things said, this place truly lives up to its name and I would love to renew my vows here in a heartbeat. read more

Niece got married here and it was beautiful. Grounds were beautiful, the ceremony area was superb, and the staff was great. I hear that you have to book everything separate from the food, drinks and minister but really, if you want to get married on the beach this is the place. Updated on 01/13: My cousin got married here yesterday and this place really look like heaven on earth. From the expanses of lawn to the crashing waves of the ocean, to the spectacular view--this was a great venue for a wedding. The children ran all over the lawn playing games while the adults indulged in drinks and apps while looking at the ocean views. The only drawback was the music coming from the neighboring resort which killed some of the romantic mood of the ceremony. read more

Lanikuhonua means "where heaven meets the Earth". This location on Ko Olina is a beautiful spot to get married. I was lucky enough to attend a wedding here and it was gorgeous. I don't have the pricing or details, but I do know it was absolutely beautiful, especially when the sun was setting. Truly a "lucky we live in Hawaii" spot! read more

Cora's neighbor's daughter's graduation party was here today, after our middle school chicken fundraiser. Two other cars' worth of guests and my carpool got lost trying to find the actual pavillion after we checked in at the Ko Olina guardshack. The guard told us to take the third driveway on the right, which actually shared a parking lot with an art festival of some sort. All three cars had to stop, park, ask for further directions, reverse, repark. We didn't have the graduation invite with us and didn't know exactly where to go either. Nice view of the water from the corner of the pavillion where I sat during the graduation party. Unfortunately, there was also a girl in the water who had on swimsuit that was too small for her and our table tried not to look as we were eating our lunch. Catered Hawaiian and Filipino foods, lots of lumpias for appetizers. read more

I "attended" an event here and must say that it would be an awesome place to have a wedding. The views are the perfect setting. Everything is lush and green, theres a view of the sunset, free parking, and restroom facilities. The only downside it would have is if you have a function without a tent and it rains...then youre out of luck cause it can get real muddy too! read more
