Two weeks ago I took a pair of white fringe bottom jeans I'd just purchased from Chicos to Wah-Tee. I called and made an appointment in advance. I waited patiently for a half an hour while she fitted a dress on a young lady and talked and talked, and talked. I picked up my pants a week or so later. They looked terrible; like someone didn't finish and threw them in a bag for pick up. The fringe was not finished, but worse, hadn't even been trimmed. There were long threads and mess hanging off! One leg was fringed more than the other. They weren't stabilized with a stitching at the top as they had been when I brought them. I was so shocked and disappointed. Wah-Tee said, " Aren't they cute? My go-to tailor in SA. I'll be honest, I haven't gone anywhere else in SA because the Yelp reviews led me here over a year ago and I keep going back. Wah-tee is always so welcoming and fun to interact with and her team does a fantastic job on garments. I've gotten mostly pants/jeans done here, but I've seen customers get suits, dresses, shorts and everything in between. Pricing wise, I would say you get a level of service and outcome that corresponds accordingly. I haven't gone to another tailor in SA, nor do I foresee doing so. read more

I went to Wah-Tee's Tailoring, it's not very organized. I wasn't familiar with her protocol. She has high end clients, professional, I asked her repeatedly, "how much is this going to cost?" no answer, asked her husband, crickets. She kept saying, you will like my work. Well, when I went to pick up my clothing, I couldn't believe how much it cost! She didn't give me a break-down of why it cost so much, just the amount to be paid. I will NEVER go to her again. I brought in a denim shirt to be resized (to a smaller size). Rather than take measurements, Wah-Tee took a similar shirt of mine to use as a "sample" to get the measurements from. She agreed to modify the larger shirt's width at the sides, and width of the sleeves, to match the smaller shirt's dimensions. When I picked up the modified shirt, Wah-Tee said that it had been a lot of work, that she would never agree to do such a thing again, and that the altered shirt matched the sample exactly. (Of course this made me think she had never done such an alteration before, or she would have known what to expect!) When I got home and looked, I noticed that the shirt dimensions were very different (i.e., the altered shirt was still much larger than the sample shirt). I will try to attach a photo of the sample shirt (darker color) on top of the shirt that she altered (lighter color). The sleeve width is still two inches wider than the sample, and the sides as well. I phoned Wah-Tee the next afternoon and told her that the altered shirt and the sample shirt were in no way even remotely the same size. In response, and in contrast to what she claimed when I picked them up, she said that any two shirts would always be different, and offered as a ridiculous analogy, "You can never turn me into you, or you into me." She said that she had done the best she could, that she would NOT refund my money, and that she was busy. Then she hung up on me mid-conversation, which I found surprising. Interestingly, after dropping off the shirt for her to alter, I went back to clarify with her what she was going to do, and she got kind of snippy and offended that I was questioning her. In irritation, she said that she had at one time been a custom shirt maker, and that she could not believe I was questioning her ability to do a $50 alteration when people had entrusted to her their $14,000 dresses. She closed by saying to me quite bluntly, "It's never the clothes alterations that are the problem; it is the people who wear the clothes that can be the problem." I have to say Wah-Tee is the cutest, sweetest and most adorable lady I've probably met since I've moved to Texas. When I went to drop my pants off there was 6 waiting patiently for service. So I knew this place had to be good. She took her time with each client. Many return clients and she knew them all by name. Her work is amazing. I accidentally popped my button off my Buckle jeans (**cough cough** from too much Yelping where I've gained a pound or ten) and even though she wasn't able to use the button that came with it, she was able to salvage my favorite pair of jeans. She also fixed two pair of slacks that needed fixed. I seen that she fixed suits as well, because the guy in front of me tried his on and was looking pretty GQ walking out of there. Parking is full sometimes. Definitely a busy little shop, not too far from the quarry. I've definitely found my tailor here. I've used other tailors and Wah Tee is someone I can simply count on. I own a boutique down the street so I have sent her a lot of pieces that need repair over the course of three years. She's a hoot that is for sure. She speaks to everyone like they are familiar and like her family.... this can be good or bad depending on your level of sensitivity. The truth is she has a LOT of work, she does great work and doesn't coddle anyone. She's a one woman show at the front most times so if you want a good price and great tailoring come here. If you want fluffy customer service and possibly ok tailoring, then go somewhere else. Something tells me Wah Tee will be unconcerned and continue doing just fine. Also she's super busy so plan on a 2 week turn around for special alterations such as a gown but she has given me next day for simple items on multiple occasions. If you are new, as soon as a room is open just go in a dressing room and put your item on and get ready to jump on the platform and 'gitrdone. 1. Say when you need it. 2. Show her what you want done. 3. Don't assume anything. She needs direction so if you want the alteration to be a certain way, say it or forever hold your peace! 4. I don't always ask for them to get something done in a day or two but whenever I do they make sure to have back to me promptly. Here's the deal: in fields, such as tailoring, where you have (i) an elastic supply and (ii) a largely replicable skillset, you are getting rated by me based solely on customer service. While Wah Tee seems to be a skilled tailor based on all the other glowing reviews, in my experience (in addition to a conversation I had with another former client) Wah Tee does not treat potential clients (in this case me) with respect. Here's my story: I come in with a pair of pants that need altering (adding a couple inches to the waistline) and, noticing there is a line upon arrival, I sit down and wait patiently in one of the couches in the waiting area. After a few minutes, what appears to be the owner of the shop asks me what I need. I tell her I need my pants "let out" a couple inches. She then commands me: "take a changing room". I reply: "it's okay, I just need the pants 'taken out' a couple inches". She then retorts, "then don't take a room!". Wow. Really? She then proceeds to bark: "speak proper English and I can do it for you. It is called 'relieving', otherwise I don't know what to do and I take away a couple inches instead of giving you a couple inches. You speak proper English and I can do it for you" Huh? Somebody must have been woken up in the middle of the night last night by territorial tomcats fighting for dominance in the alley behind their house. Even the woman paying at the counter was taken aback, as she looked at me with a somewhat amazed look on her face, raised her eyebrows, and then said, trying to lighten the situation, "that must be a tailoring term" (cue nervous laugh). I had not said anything even remotely offensive to this point. My only offense was (apparently) screwing up what term was commonly used in the tailoring industry for adding a couple inches to a pair of pants' waistline. I stood there for a couple minutes, thought about what transpired more, and then walked out. No need to get harassed further on my lack knowledge on correct tailoring terminology, life is way too short for that. My take-home: there are scores of tailors in SATX that also do a fine job. As such, I can't think of a compelling reason to give business to a grouchy lady that should spend less time correcting potential customers' industry-specific vocabulary and more time catching up on what is clearly a multi-year sleep deficit. read more

She also gives you straight answers to your questions about how a suit fits and If she can fix your suit or if you should simply buy a new one.
