We found ourselves in Needles California this morning and in need of breakfast. My girlfriend drove us to what looked like a small truck stop just a stones throw from an I40 off ramp. I was skeptical at first, however, any reservations I may have had vanished within seconds of walking in the door. Though our waitress was working several tables she returned to our table at least four times to make sure we had everything we needed and to top off our coffee cups. Arrived at 530 in the morning and needed great coffee and an amazing breakfast. Ended up with brown food coloring in water as coffee and rubbery fake eggs. Do not get me wrong, the service was great and the waitress was always there. The prices were too high for a small breakfast, food quality, and location. The food was just terrible and the coffee literally taste like water on the first pot and burnt the second pot. I would recommend waiting until the cafe across the street opens at 7. read more

This is an ANCHOR on rt 40 and old 66. Breakfasts are all 6 star. I like their tuna salad for lunch with rye on the side. For the money you get about 2 whole sandwiches worth. Their Friday fish, all you can eat, is super. If you are a biscuits and gravy person, I dare you.... its like home made and very large portions. Was here on a road trip with the family. If you are looking for a place to get a feel of the local community, this is the place. If you are looking for a clean place with affordable food, there are other choices on the street that would be better. People and service was great. I was disappointed by the lumpy booth seats, the burger I had was okay, and the smell of the place was hard to get over. For $70, I would want more quality and less smell. Great hole in the wall! Everything is good. Came one day and they had a special that day for the homewrecker which is a huge hot dog with yummy toppings. Man, I could order that every time but it's only done as a special. Their breakfast is delicious, hearty and good price. read more

I've passed by this place so many times going to Grand Canyon and Havasupai. I thought it would be a good idea to check it out and see what all the Route 66 - Hype was all about. We found the place was pretty empty although has some western decor which made it interesting but that was about it. We were sat in a corner with flies everywhere and the waitress brought us a fly swatted to kill the flies. We just had a drink and had to take off... I wanted a nice old-school Route 66 diner to stop at for my Grand Canyon trip last weekend. My appetite woke up in Needles, and the Wagon Wheel's kitsch Old West retro exterior was exactly what I needed. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a classic diner plate of Huevos Rancheros, and fresh coffee: a tasty road breakfast that held me over 'til dinner. The staff were friendly and attentive, with different folks stopping to offer more coffee as they passed on their way to other tasks. Neat little place right off the interstate. The food is cheap and very filling. Nothing fancy about this place, but the cooking is good and the price is better. Tip for you - if you need gas, don't get it across the street at the gas stations. Either go to the other side of town across the river (Arizona side) where it's cheaper, or head towards Arizona another 10 minutes and save yourself a wad of cash. read more

Incredible. I had a side salad with ice cold crisp lettuce. My husband had the meatloaf that he claimed was the best he had ever had. We were too cold in our booth so we asked if we could move to one a little farther away from the coldness. They allowed us to move and even turned up the heat for us. It was very kind of them. we ate dinner here while staying overnight in Needles. It's a cross between a Cracker Barrel and a greasy spoon trucker stop. Be sure to get the coffee!! I think this is the best coffee on the west coast! I ordered the chicken friend steak and mashed potatoes. The chicken fried steak was good, but different from what I'm used to. The breading was just a little lighter than what I usually expect. But the potatoes and green beans that accompanied it were fine. The service was wonderful - attentive but not in-your-face. Always coming back to refill my husband's soda or top off my coffee. We'll be sure to stop in again when we pass through. read more
