I've had this Wagamama on my bookmarks list for quite a long time and never really been in the right mood for a high carb dinner until this past week. The timing and the food mood just haven't been right until now. So I headed in, waited a few minutes to be seated. Bench seats with no back is an interesting concept and it certainly keeps you from lingering too long over your meal. The "Chicken Raisukaree" called out to me from the menu, so that was what I ordered, with a large Asahi beer. Service seemed a bit slow - I was just about ready to ask where my drink was when it showed up. And a moment later, my dinner. A large scoop of rice on top of a yellow curry with chicken, peppers, onions and more. I was a little disappointed with the quantity of chicken, but the flavor was there and I did enjoy eating every last morsel from the plate, pushing around a final piece of chicken so that I could get all of the sauce. For £9.75, I thought it was too expensive. As mentioned earlier, the seating doesn't really lend itself to sticking around. So when the meal was done, I paid the check and was away. Would I return? Maybe. But I would have something else.

The Reading Wagamamas is where I lost my wagamama virginity so I hold this place in high reverence. My only complaint would be that unlike most places on the Riverside, they do not have outdoor seating for hot summer days with noodles and broth and perhaps a slice of the special cheese cake to cool things off, or a glass of watermelon juice. All for under a tenner. very good for the Oracle, if you just can't stomach a burger from one of the many burger joints. The staff are very friendly and not as eccentric as those you find in the London branches (not that that is a bad thing). Service is pristine as usual, and the branch is big and always bustling as it is the only one in Reading. Recommended after shopping. They also often have deals on buy one get one free meals!

Decent ramen, good broth. They were out of all but two teas, including the one I ordered so they comped my beer and tea, great service. I'd recommend coming here when you can't stomach anymore British cuisine, curry, etc. and you want a change of pace.

Asian fusion in a nice atmosphere. Enjoy the picnic bench style seating. Always seems to be busy.

So my initial challenge was to find a place to have a nice dinner as I didn't know the area. So a lot may have changed since my visit, but I believe this was a well deserved rating as the ambiance was quiet, and quaint. The service was good and the food was definitely satisfying, as I was craving some Japanese food. If I'm ever in the area again, and craving Japanese food, I'd go back. So enjoy and I hope the quality is just as good as when I was there.

This says more about Maidenhead than it does about Miyazaki. Although the restaurant had mostly empty tables I was offered a table that they'd need within about 80 minutes. "No problem" I thought, along with "where is this crowd they're expecting"? Eighty minutes later and it was obvious they were truthful. This is Maidenhead's "hot" restaurant. With a sushi menu stretching all the way from tuna to salmon and back again (!) it's fair to say that the selection of raw fish here doesn't go deep or extensive. Does Hamachi even make its way to the UK? I never saw it on a menu once. Miyazaki does offer salmon nigiri both raw and lightly torched and that's about as exotic as things get. What they do they do well enough and certainly well enough for the area. If you're in Maidenhead you might as well make a reservation to dine at Miyazaki. It's not the only restaurant in town but I think it might be best one.

The Teppanyaki chefs are very talented and put on a real show for you while cooking the food. They also serve Sushi, Sashimi and Yakitori. I am lucky enough to have eaten Japanese food in Tokyo so the bar is set quite high fo me in terms of quality and authenticity. While this restaurant appears to be Chinese run rather than Japanese, the food still tastes authentic and the experience is very worthwhile. The Sake is great too, especially warm. Highly recommended, only loses one star for the prices.

In addition to preparing the food he flourishes his tools, juggles with some of the implements and even (optionally) threw the bowls fried rice to the customers! Somehow everyone I saw trying this managed to catch it, which was a relief. For starters we had Chicken Yakitori (chicken on skewers with leek and yakitori sauce), Harumaki (deep fried Japanese spring rolls) and Prawn Tempura: these varied from £4-5.50 per portion and I'd suggest one or two each as the dishes are small but tasty. We didn't try the Sushi, Makimono, Temaki or Sahimi, although some of the others at the shared table did and it looked nicely presented. For the mains (£10-17) we went with Traditional Teppanyaki: this is the food that the chef prepares in front of you on the hot plate. This is safe, but I don't think it would be a good idea for very young children. We had Tuna filet steak seared and served with teriyaki sauce and chopped pickled ginger; Scottish sirloin Hibachi Steak which was served to order, in our case rare. The steak and teriyaki sauce was lovely, the tuna was very nice but a little overcooked to our tastes. This was accompanied by egg fried rice with chicken at the start (£4.00), fried mushrooms and bean sprouts at the end (included in the cost). Everything was nicely cooked and very tasty. We had a bottle of Australian Merlot, which was good value at under £15. The food was good value, the staff were helpful and polite, and there is a reasonable amount of parking outside. Highly recommended.

This was my first time in a sushi bar with the conveyor belt system and it adds a certain charm. You can tell how fresh each item is, because each one has a decal on it noting the time it was put on the belt. Greeted and shown to one of the seats (they also have booths, but these seem to be reserved for parties of more than one), he explained to me how things worked, asked if I wanted to order a drink and left me with the menu. Pretty self explanatory. You take what you like off the belt and at the end, they total up your empties. Different colors are different prices. Obviously, the simple stuff like cucumber rolls were on the less expensive plates and the sashimi was on the more expensive plates. Five grades. No surprise. Interesting countertop, each seat has a sunken slot for napkins and chopsticks as well as containers for soy sauce, wasabe and ginger. I liked that, because I really like ginger and hate having to ask for more. There are also spigots for water (flat or fizzy) and you can refill yourself. £1. Bonus! The sushi, on the other hand, was nothing to write home about (though technically, I'm writing home about it now). I had five dishes (3 @ 2.80, 1 @ 3.30 and 1 @ 5.00), which for a total of £17.70 should have left me filled. It did not. I did enjoy some of them, but some of them I did not. I figured I would get out when I was ahead, or at least, not too far behind. If you have a major sushi craving, as I did, this place is OK. But I am hoping that there is better somewhere else in Reading. I won't be back.
