Takeaway chicken Katsu curry - ridiculously impressed with how they packed it, it travelled really well!
    Debs M.

I really (really!) like Wagamama and I was delighted when this particular one was announced, as it's very handy (too handy?) for me. My first experience at this venue was a couple of months ago when my cousins and I got takeaway. Wagamama takeaway is a freaking REVELATION in takeaway food, as they clearly put a lot of thought into how they parcel things up, and it all travels really well! Let's take for example the one and only chicken katsu curry - the chicken and rice sits in a plastic bowl, while the curry sauce itself fits neatly on top, within the same container in its own wee half-bowl, so your chicken katsu doesn't get all soggy! YES. Out for dinner with my cousin the other night was the first time I'd sat in here and it it a really nice place. The staff were very friendly and we were really well looked after. After perusing the menu, my cousin decided she would like to try something new and as such, informed me that the staff would need to get "The Folder". The Folder being their neatly displayed, very easy to read list of allergens for every single dish on the menu. My cousin is allergic to many things including all nuts, chickpeas and lentils, and she's had some pretty bad experiences from the past: "No there weren't any nuts in the korma....oh well we did sprinkle some almond powder on the top" being one of them, thankfully she's not life-threateningly allergic! So places who put this much effort into knowing exactly what's in their dishes are always a hit with her. She happily scarfed down some chicken and prawn Yaki Soba after discovering it was safe, and declared it was possibly her new favourite dish (even more than our beloved Katsu curry!) so that was all good. We'd just been to the cinema and I had eaten a decent amount of popcorn there, so I opted for a couple of sides instead of a main. One of my very few gripes about Wagas is that the sides are pretty expensive for the amount of food you get - however, the tori kara age and BBQ beef bao I went for were so utterly delicious it didn't really bother me! It's the same with all their dishes, yes some of them are a bit pricier than you might find elsewhere, but I find Wagamama to be consistently good! I'll be back in the not too distant future I'd imagine, gotta love that Katsu curry!!

So something s little exciting going on at the fort a little different to your normal fast food by wagamamas would now be my first choice. It's big and bright and the staff are very friendly. Ever time would be a Katsu chicken curry! But now times have change so I opted for the sirloin steak ramen. Now wasn't real ramen but it was very good it was kind of a mash up between pho and ramen. Duck Goya again not totally authentic but very nice this was served with a stick dip that tastes a little syrup like. Not the worst chain joint always rely on a decent Katsu curry.

It's probably the best food place in the fort now. You walk in and it feels brand spanking new. It's bright and there is plenty of room. The decor is pleasant as it always is at this chain. The staff were exceptionally friendly which again is the norm. So all good so far and we move on to the food. Two dishes were selected. First up some duck gyosas with a side of plum tasting sauce. There were lovely, but they were not gyosas, they were more like mini pastries. Good food, but miles away from being authentic Asian gyosas. Mains was meant to satisfy my craving for some top class ramen. Unfortunately it was more medium class. The beef chilli ramen is not bad, it's got a good portion of meat and it's spicy enough, but it's poor in terms of matching the real things. The broth lets it down badly, you can tell there is no substance to it. Ramen stock should be cooked for hours, this seemed liked ten mins. Also there was far to much going on, lime, red onions, bean sprouts.... It needs to be kept more simple and where is the boiled egg!! All a bit disappointing 3 stars. You won't hate it, but you won't love it. Chain food...

Pulled pork gyoza, you actually get five but I was too eager.

The wife and I were out at The Fort tonight and whilst walking back to the car, discussing what we were going to make for dinner, we passed Wagamama and that was it! Decision made. We were seated straight away at one of the high tables with a view in to the kitchen and ordered some drinks while perusing the menu. We kind of have a regular set of sides we order anytime we go to Waga, chilli squid and gyoza of some kind, tonight it was steamed pulled pork. The squid was delicious as always and cooked perfectly (the chilli oil dip is really my favourite part), the gyoza was pretty good too, I would usually go for a fried duck gyoza but this was a pleasant change. For my main I was intrigued by the beef short rib ramen but not being a great fan of noodles I asked to change them for sticky rice. Perfect! I don't even know how to put this in to words, the meat was a soft yet juicy, melt in your mouth treat that just slid off of the bone with nothing more than chopsticks to assist. The rice in lieu of noodles was, if I do say so myself, a stroke of genius. Service was extremely quick since we were served straight from the kitchen next to us by the cooks, a rather nice change to the usual chain restaurant style of leaving it under a heat lamp. All in all a very pleasant experience and much better than having to cook on sunny Saturday evening.

I wish there was a 3.5 star option for this because we've had a couple of not so good visits to Wagamama at the Fort before, and the price for those tiny bottles of Coke Zero annoys the life out of me, but I'm being generous because our visit this time was lovely. I went with Craig S after nipping to boots for baby essentials and when I told him I was in no mood to cook Wagamama was the easy winner. Third visit was definitely a charm. We were seated immediately at one of the high tables by the kitchen which allowed for some excellent viewing. I'm fascinated watching people cook so this was the ideal spot for me. Dinner choices were sirloin and shiitake salad with a side of chilli squid (which I shared half of with Craig in exchange for a couple of his steamed pulled pork gyoza). I'll start with the chilli squid. It is my all time favourite item on the Waga menu. That dipping sauce is just delicious. Do they bottle that and sell it? Cus if they do I'm buying in bulk! I was apprehensive with the pulled pork gyoza cus I'm not the biggest fan of pulled pork but they were light, slightly sweet and melted in the mouth. Delicious. The sirloin in my salad was cooked rare. I wasn't asked how I would like it cooked but rare is always fine by me. The shiitake mushrooms were beefy and moreish and complimented the steak perfectly. There was a good mix of vegetables in my salad and it was dressed in what tasted like a light hoisin vinaigrette if that were a thing! Super tasty, nice and light and full of texture. The staff were so lovely. Very chatty! The chefs handed us our plates straight over as we were sitting right next to them which I loved! That's service right there. I still grudge paying over 10 quid for essentially a couple of cans of juice each but the food is worth the cost. Now that the settling in period is over Wagamama seem to have worked out the kinks and are putting out decent food. With limited choice at the fort - and all of them being chains - it's pretty close to the top of my list for quick bites to eat while out shopping.

    Review Highlights - Wagamama

For sides the Korean steamed buns are brilliant and if you like seafood then the chilli squid is usually great but can be hit and miss at times.

When you arrive, you are met with what I can only describe as a manky curtain - something that would normally really annoy me, but I totally forgive them.. Once you get past that you're presented with a surprisingly large, and very sleekly decked out, restaurant. There's all sorts of deals on here for bento boxes and lunch deals. But the full menu is also very reasonably priced. I had the ramen Chilli chicken. And oh my God! It was easily the best I've ever had. Very, very spicy. But sweet. And full of peppers and perfectly cooked chicken. My friend had the chicken katsu curry - and again, said it was the best he'd had. The staff were super cheery and really helpful. For 2 mains and 2 cokes the bill came to less than £24. I sinceriously can't wait to go back for more.

This was one of the first restaurants I dined at in Glasgow with my now husband after our fateful meeting in Japan, so it is very special to the both of us. I'd hopped on a plane to the other side of the world to visit a man I'd known for 14 days, fell in love and moved here. We've returned here loads of times since then, but I haven't been to Nanakusa for nearly a year. In my endless quest of eating out as many places in Glasgow as possible, sometimes the real gems get left behind for the new and exciting places. I was so glad to return last night for a UYE and see that nothing has changed since I first fell in love with Nanakusa (I was already in love with my husband by the time we ate here!) Now, Nanakusa. It does Japanese food, and it does it really well (see the aforementioned reference to meeting my husband in Japan!). I really love sashimi and there aren't enough places in Glasgow that I can eat it, so I always get a portion when I eat here. I also love takoyaki (octopus balls) and can't resist them here. I've tried them elsewhere but Nanakusa's are the best. The service is always friendly, smiling and helpful. It was a little slow last night but there were only two people working the whole restaurant, but none of us were in a particular hurry. I had a small glass of rosé with my meal and they also have a selection of saké and plum wines, as well as Japanese beers for that really authentic taste. The food arrived quickly and as soon as it was ready. Two people had ordered bento boxes and these arrived about 5 minutes after everything else. The waiter seemed really conscious of this and kept coming over which was a nice touch. I loved all my dishes, the takoyaki and salmon sashimi and I also had the chicken teriyaki. Sides like rice and noodles are optional which is great if you're all about the protein. Downsides? As I said, service was a bit slow. I'm also not a big fan of the lighting (the wall panels change colour) as it makes it hard to take nice food photos! Haha! Bench seating can be difficult to navigate getting in and out of gracefully. None of these points are worthy of a star deduction in my mind though as the food is so damn good, I can excuse it all. Thanks Nanakusa for being just as amazing as you were 4 years ago.

We stumbled upon this location after looking for a place near our AirBnB for some Sushi. We tried to reserve a table online via their website but it didn't work. So we decided to instead walk a mile to their restaurant to see if we could get a table - or even sit outside if we had to - knowing there would probably be a bit of a wait. When we got there I entered the restaurant with my son who is 3 in a stroller and immediately was greeted by a Redheaded woman who smiled at me like I had 3 heads. I then asked kindly for their availability and explained my situation and the woman scoffed at me - as if I was stupid to even ask the question - to which she then turned her iPad around and showed a list of Reservations. I actually managed to point to my reservation that via the website had not seemed to schedule correctly - to which she aggressively said "well there's nothing we can do'. Right as I turned to leave the restaurant the rest of my party trickles in and asks if we can eat outside - One of the kind waitresses said "sure" to which she set us up outside. We ordered 3 bottles of Sake and they were £24 for 300ml bottles. We had hoped that they might be worth the price but unfortunately they weren't much better than what you can get from a CoOp with a liquor license. The Shrimp Ramen was fantastic and the sushi tasted great but was really overpriced for the quantity which they give you. Overall I totally get the lack of vacancy for a popular spot - but being scoffed at as you gently inquire about availability was really off putting. Even eating there despite it was difficult - and the alcohol/sushi being overpriced. Would not recommend. The sushi quality and the waitresses efforts are the only reason it's not 1/5.

Service is pretty poor. I hasten to add not the fault of the waitress but the cooks. I found myself…read moresitting waiting for my meal whilst my companion was eating away.
