My friend and I had planned to go to the place next door, but it hadn't yet opened for dinner yet,…read moreso we impulsively walked into Sakura instead, and we are so glad we did! It was quiet on an early Sunday evening, but the service was extra attentive and I love the semi-upscale Japanese aesthetic - we were seated next to a pretty aquarium and given cloth napkins and real wooden chopsticks. The vegetarian options excited me the most, and I ordered the Vegetarian Duck Teriyaki. It was really interesting because I'd never had any duck-related veg food, so I had to try it. The teriyaki flavor was a bit overwhelming, maybe too much sauce, but I still gobbled it up. My friend would have given her actual duck teppanyaki dish and the whole experience five stars, she loved it so much. I would definitely go back and try another one of their veg dishes! Winchester, it seems like this place isn't super well known yet, but you don't know what you're missing!

Everyone starts with a miso soup - which was delicious - and then you choose from one of 4 options - I tried tofu for the first time in my life and was so pleased that I opted for it as it was really good. My son had the pork dumplings and really enjoyed them. We had the sushi for our main course which was also excellent. All of this cost £14.90 each and the other 2 lunch menus were cheaper - the cheapest was £9.90. We shared a black sesame ice cream and really enjoyed that too. The service was very good and friendly. They had another table with people with children, one in a high chair. They don't take bookings for lunch times as they are not very busy but they recommend booking for evenings as they are busy then.

We started with the duck spring rolls which were fresh, deep fried but not overly greasy, and served with a nice Hoisin dipping sauce. We also started with the crispy tempura roll which was a generously portion tempura shrimp roll, and served with a drizzle of two types of sauce on the outside (eel and a cream sauce) and crispy rice on the outside - highly recommend. For main entree, I had the chicken with garlic sauce served over rice noodles, and my mom had the chicken chow mein. I would highly recommend both dishes. I am shocked this place was not busier although it was a Wednesday night. Wine prices were very reasonable. I cannot wait to visit again when I am in town next !!
