Lin's Thai Cafe is a diner style authentic Thai restaurant that serves traditional english favorites (chippy and bangers). Stumbled here on a Sunday afternoon after finding Tang's (to be reviewed soon) was closed until dinner hours. Quick summary: Food: Thai - 4 out of 5 for authenticity and flavor. English breakfasts and chippy meet the standard and is offered to cater to the less adventurous. Of the 4 dishes we tried, the Pad Thai stood out as the dish of the day, made with the right balance of tamarind and garlic; we ordered two portions to start and an additional third after my family devoured the first two. Springs rolls were crunchy, even with the chili sauce it was served with. Ambiance: Simple diner style. Ask to prop the door open for ventilation. Although I don't mind, coriander, garlic and curry can be sometimes overwhelming. This place does not have a liquor license, but it is BYOB so hop on two doors down and pick up a Hoegarden Heff to tame the spice. Customer Service: A bit of a language barrier, so keep your special orders to yourself. I requested to add beef to a particular menu choice and ended up with a completely separate beef dish. Finally, an authentic Thai cafe! The food here is absolutely superb. Everything is cooked fresh, which as a Vegan means i can change items if i like. Not that i usually have to, as many of the dishes are already Vegan friendly! There are only 2 things about this cafe that deduct from it's points, the main one being the lack of a loo! You have to walk around the back of the cafe to another bar to use one. The only other thing is that they do not as yet have an alcohol license, so you can BYOB. This in itself is not a problem, but if you pop in and haven't planned a visit it can be a bit of a pain in the butt if you fancy an alcholic beverage :P read more

This has AMAZING food! If you are ever in the area you should definitely sample the delicious food here. There is a lot to choose from on the menu and staff are always willing to help if you are indecisive. Any of the food is brilliant so you wouldn't be disappointed with your choice. The food is always served quickly and you can see them preparing and cooking everything from fresh so you know it is authentic and freshly cooked. You can eat in or take away and in my experience both are very good. As they do not have a license you would need to take your own alcohol if you wanted. As said before, the only bad thing is that they do not have a bathroom! We were told to use the one in the bar next door. Not a problem considering the great food. read more

My favorite Thai restaurant in Portsmouth. The food is good and the price is very good! Not a big fan of the starters, but the green, red and panang curry are delicious. The Pad Krapow and Phat Phrik dishes are also very worth trying out. The interior is simple with some Thai and Buddha decorations. I've returned to yelp and even though I have moved from southsea I visited Lin's more than anywhere else in Portsmouth its just that good. As the other reviews said they serve authentic Thai food, cooked fresh, by a friendly Thai family who are just lovely. They're not afraid of spice but you can ask for it tamer if need be! Great choice, massaman curry or red curry are my usual choices and the satay chicken to start... A friend of mine is vegetarian but picky and we called ahead and they got in tofu just for her. They don't serve alcohol but its byob and conveniently there are 2 shops within walking distance to get some wine or beer, whatever you fancy, and there's no corkage. Staff are friendly and the toilet is a tardis, what more can I say?! read more

It might be because this is one of the closest take always to us, but we find ourselves here nearly every weekend. Most valuable peice of advice - GO FOR THE RIBS IN SPECIAL LINS SAUCE! Absolutely divine! Greedy me ordered a second one after I had finished (which I've never done in a restaurant before!) I haven't had to use the toilet yet as the service is so quick and it is more of a quick cafe snack rather than a full on meal. Love the freidnly service - had a good old natter with the owner.
