Wagamama is a chain japanese restaurant that can be found all over London. This is a great family dining experience for larger groups or for a first date. They have teppanyaki options that can be reserved before hand. Our wait staff was really nice and made recommendations to us based on our preferences and allergies. There's also a rewards program and ability to pay/view your bill online in case you can't get ahold of your waiter. Everyone gets a free green tea and the food itself was pretty flavorful. We ordered a hotpot, 2 rice dishes, and 1 noodle dish with 3 appetizers and 1 dessert which filled our group of 7 up pretty well. The prices were middle high, but it's a great place to celebrate a birthday!

It may have its trendy vibe going for it, but service and food are definitely low points for Wagamama in London Gatwick's South Terminal. After being seated, there was an eternal wait to get our order taken, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. For lunch, we tried the avant gard'n bowl, a creative sounding dish with a base of brown rice and topped with shredded carrots, edamame, scallions, shiitake mushrooms, grilled seitan, asparagus, and the best part, a vegan "egg" made of a coconut pudding white and a sriracha yolk! Tasty, but the teriyaki-like sauce was quite heavy and overpowered the dish with its sweet and salty flavor. We also had the cod mokutan soba, a dish of charcoal soba noodles topped with baby bok choy and fillets of miso-glazed cod. While the texture of the noodles was nice, all I could taste was salty, salty, salty from the sauce, making it hard to appreciate the subtler flavors of the fish and other vegetables. Even after we were done, we had to wait an eternity again to get our plates cleared--definitely don't come if you're in a rush to catch a flight, but I'd recommend reconsidering a visit in any case, given the relatively high prices for the quality and amount of food you get.

Service was nice but food was god-awful :( I cannot comprehend how Wagamama is so popular in the UK.

It was a decent spot to stop for a sit-down meal while waiting for our gate number to be announced. We walked the length of the airport, checking out all the eating and drinking establishments available to us, and Wagamama most appealed to us at that time. (Because really, I do love Asian-inspired food, and can eat it every day.) It was a bit too early for lunch when we arrived, but we got a table anyway. The host was friendly and got us settled into a big booth near the front. Our waitress was friendly enough but wasn't really around much. For lunch, I went with Teriyaki Chicken Donburi, and my husband ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry. His meal came out a lot faster than mine, which was disappointing. I told him to eat, but he's too polite sometimes, so he waited for my food to get to the table, at which point I'm pretty sure his plate was warm at best. The Donburi bowl was okay, but very dry. I asked the person who dropped my bowl off (not our waitress) for a side of teriyaki sauce, which never came. I also asked our waitress for the sauce the one time she stopped by our table, and again it never came. I asked a random employee for the sauce as they were zooming by our table, and I finally got it, but by that time, I was almost done eating. I didn't finish everything - I'm not a big "eat before you hop on a plane" girl, and the food didn't inspire me to keep chewing. My husband did enjoy his meal. His plate was much smaller than my bowl full of dry rice and microgreens, and he was quite hungry at that point. We never did see our waitress again (at our table, at least. I did see her wandering around the other tables in the restaurant, so she didn't go on break or anything). The food was passable, relatively inexpensive, and at least filled us up enough.

There was no line and the server was friendly and attentive. He did mention it would take a bit longer to cook my meal, but I was in no rush. The skin was crispy on the pork, yum! All I ordered was a bowl of soup. No complaints with this airport restaurant experience. The restaurant/bar next door was slammed with people, so I decided on the quieter spot.

Wagamama is a popular chain here, that has a few smatterings in the US. I lived in Boston for 4 years and avoided Wagamama because I heard a lot of meh reviews. But since we were in London and needed breakfast, we came in to try it. I now confirm those reviews! They have great marketing and advertisements - beautiful pictures of their featured foods all over. I was very tempted to order from their breakfast menu, but we all decided to get the pork ramen because we wanted soup in our bellies. You can choose the type of broth you want. I got the spicy one, which looks like shin ramen when it comes out, but definitely doesn't taste like it! It's actually a little bit on the sweeter side. I recommend the thicker broth with better taste overall. The ramen noodles are nothing special. Not thick and chewy. But just the thick kind without good texture. They do give you LOTS of pork slices though and an egg, which I think were more of the stars than the actual ramen. I'd be more interested in their breakfast menu compared to their regular one next time!

Know airport food sucks, but wagamama co consistently get high scores through out London for its Japanese food. Chain has 1 redeeming quality... consistency . That's why I choose here in Gatwick Here is my ranking: Katsu infused rice and haddock with poached egg. Egg was over cooked Rice barely Luke warm without a trace of smoked haddock Flatly rejected Calamari was hard, cold though the sauce was good. Has been that clearly sat around for a while. Could have been great. Stomached thanks to the good sauce Short Rib ramen: forthcoming

This was my first time at Wagamama and I am very satisfied with everything: the food, the service, the ambiance. I order the "Full English Breakfast" and it was one of the best breakfast platters I've ever had. The food was hot and fresh. My server was supper attentive and pleasant.

Awesome food and service! I couldn't decide between Wagamama and another restaurant but I'm glad I decided to come here. I was seated right away and my food took no longer than 10 minutes to arrive. I'm always so hesitant with ordering vegan food because it's either really good or horribly bad but I'm glad this was a good pick. I went with the Full Vegan breakfast which included the following: "two rashers of maple seitan 'bacon', beetroot and seitan sausages, scrambled turmeric tofu, grilled tomato, wilted spinach, sautéed sweet potato and shiitake mushrooms." Since I don't like mushrooms I substituted it for extra sweet potato. I'm really surprised at how good the bacon and sausage tasted. To drink I got the Super Green juice which consisted of apple, mint, celery and lime which was delicious. I'd highly recommend Wagamama for tasty vegan food and great service.

I did not know Wagamama before because the chain does not exist in Germany or other countries of Europe. However, having visited Gatwick several times, I became a real fan of that restaurant chain. This place is nicely decorated and located on the first floor of the North Terminal. The reception was always very friendly. The waiters are attentive and always had time for a quick chat. I particularly like the view through the panoramic windows onto the apron, where you can watch the aircraft before you travel. I have almost always had a ramen dish that I found excellent and recommendable. Of course, you can choose whether you take the meal with cutlery or chopsticks. The taste certainly convinces here! A perfect start to a great holiday or a business trip!

Had the chicken ramen for brekke before flying home. It was a bit unimpressive, but once you hit it with a bit of chili (ask for this on the side) it helped jazz it up. Sat at the bar, enjoyed the free green tea. Service was quick and friendly. Not bad for airport food and spending a lot of the coin pounds I had accumulated over my trip.

OH MY GOD I LOVE WAGAMAMA. The food is just so freaking good. I love that there's a Wagamama at the Gatwick (south terminal) airport, because usually I treat myself more at the airport and that means I get Wagamama. I suppose everyone else has the same idea because it was jam packed and the wait staff was running around like cray. It took a while to get our food. But guess what, it was amazing. I almost always get the Teriyaki Soba (you can request tofu if you're veggie) with salmon (or tofu, depends on if I'm a vegetarian that day). It's just so comforting and the noodles are soft but some are crunchy (win) and GAH the flavour is so bang on. The prawn raisukaree (curry) dish was really good, and a totally different flavour than any other curry I've had. I'd probably want to try something different though because there are lots of exciting options. I've never been a huge fan of their calamari starter (everyone else is). But that teriyaki sobaaaaaaaaaaaaa sure does hit the spot, even if it takes forever to come and we have to run to our gate.

Always a good sign! Made a reservation for 8:45pm and went out for a drink. Make sure to make a reservation on Fridays! I ordered a Tokyo Tonkotsu (large with no extras) and a Kirin beer and my girlfriend ordered a Wakame Ramen (medium with extra pickled ginger) and a plum wine! The ramen was really really good. It looked like Jason Pollock splattered my t-shirt with Pork Bone broth afterwards! The large portion for more than enough (and we had just finished a long walk and we're starving). I would recommend adding extra pork but that's the only thing I would change. The extra pickled ginger also supposedly went really well with the Wakame (chicken) ramen. I will be coming back here soon and bringing the rest of the family!

I was expecting something more watery and clean-tasting from the vegetarian soy milk ramen. What came instead was thick and rich, nearly as heavy as the tonkotsu (minus all that salt). It had no soybean flavor, but I can see it being a holy grail for vegetarians who want to experience the luscious guilt of a fatty pork broth. I'm still conflicted (my palate wanted soy milk!) but it was certainly tasty. The karaage was not what I expected either. It's more a boneless tebasaki - fried chicken morsels given the Japanese chicken wing treatment, coated in a thin, sweet soy glaze. I liked it but was craving the typical, dry karaage fried lightly in starch. I do wish the bowls had been served hotter. They use thin noodles (apparently made in-house?!) and wanting to retain the noodle consistency is one excuse for serving a broth less than boiling hot, but the noodles got soggy quickly anyway. Manager and staff are friendly. Actual Japanese people come here willingly! 10% student discount helps with the £8 pricetag.

I was lucky enough to, along with a colleague, be taken here on several occasions for a quick lunch by a client (indicative of how welcoming the Japanese are!) By 'genuine' I mean no dumbed-down menus, no super-slick interiors to detract from potentially average food, and no gimmicks of any kind. The place is staffed and run by Japanese nationals as any self-respecting Japanese restaurant should be - and perhaps more importantly, frequented by them regularly, too. Service is smiling and attentive and no more that it needs to be. The food is inexpensive (~£6-8 for a bento, £7-11 for ramen, udon or donburi) and so tasty. On my most recent trip I had beef ramen with tan tan (sesame paste) soup base, and my brother had salmon teriyaki on brown rice. Both dishes had generous proportions of meat/fish, and the donburi came with a side salad and pickles. The unagi (eel) is also lovely, and the place does an extensive line in pick-your-soup base noodle bowl dishes where you have the option of shoyu, miso, and sesame as mentioned above, among others. I can't speak for the takeaway bento, but they looked pretty solid and of a decent quality. Drinks come in the familiar (Coke etc) and the more, um, 'traditional' - aloe vera juice, Pocari, cold bottled green and black teas and others. This place is rather hidden away on the fringes of the City, behind Aldgate station on the Petticoat Lane side. In many ways it's a great location as it's very much a local haunt, and in others a little frustrating as even if you're working in the City it can be a fair walk to get there and back! My advice would also be to get there early (between midday and half-past) to ensure a seat, as well as before some of the more popular items on the menu disappear. In brief summary, I couldn't really recommend this place enough if you're in the area. You'll get multi-kudos from any friends Nippon friends (or appreciators of their incredible cuisine) and have a lunch to beat the hell out of an uninspired sandwich / soft-drink combo whilst spending a similarly scant amount of your hard-earned cash.
