The sports bar atmosphere is a very loud environment so it is not conducive to a lot of talking but still an enjoyable experience. My wife really likes the Zydeco Salad (sweet chili-glazed fried shrimp, mixed greens, cabbage, candied pecans, jalapeños, tortilla strips, red onions, bell peppers, jack cheese, pepper jelly vinaigrette). Pepper Jack Boudin (jack cheese, pepper jelly vinaigrette) is almost always a part of our order. If you have never had, I recommend you give them a try. The Voodoo Shrimp & Grits (bacon-wrapped jalapeño and cream cheese stuffed-shrimp tossed in sweet chili glaze, served with cheddar grits) are an interesting take on the traditional Louisiana dish. I had never had corn mixed in with my grits before but it was a nice addition. The dish is large enough to split, especially when you add the boudin and Beignet Bites for a full meal. The Seafood Poboy with a choice of boom boom shrimp, fried shrimp or fried catfish with tomato, lettuce, pickles, mayo, poboy bread is another great option.

Hidden Gem That Lives Up to the Hype…read more This spot in Trussville, AL is great. I came with friends after seeing how strong the reviews were, and it definitely lived up to them. What looks like a typical sports bar is actually a well-known gem for a reason. The food was excellent across the board. We ordered mozzarella sticks, shrimp, chicken tenders, and fries everything came out hot, fresh, and really well done. Our server was kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was exactly what you'd want lively, fun, and comfortable. The price was right too, actually coming in under what I expected, which made the experience even better. Overall: Easy 5/5, this place knows it's good, and it should.

Lunch with wife, yeah we do that a lot…read more Metro Diner, we'll be going back. Good comfort food, excellent service, clean and tasteful decor. Wife had Pot Roast, was a special on their menu board. More than she could eat. I had the Shepherds Pie, which I would definitely order again, but next time pretty sure I'll try a different menu item. We enjoyed our meal at Metro Diner. Would definitely recommend to friends and family seeking good Comfort Food.

After ordering a basic Short Stack with a side of sausage links, I noticed that the wall had a list of specials and flagged down the server to ask if it was too late to change to the Strawberry Shortcake version that was listed there. She checked and the kitchen said they could change it. Just before bringing it to my table the server also confided that apparently the Strawberry Shortcake version was no longer supposed to be on the menu but I was lucky they had everything still. I thought it was supposed to also include whipped cream (since they had already erased the chalkboard at that point, I couldn't be sure), however they were still pretty tasty even if not a looker per se. I don't dine here often but overall have been pleased when I have. The Chicken & Waffles (always ask for Strawberry Butter!) and the Fish & Chips are really good too.

Overall consistently have been happy with everything I have eaten, but I will say that while still pretty good the burgers are not as good as they were early on. One of the big draws for me has always been the outdoor patio area that is shared with the other businesses that are part of the Trussville Entertainment District (TED). The covering over the area keeps you out of the direct sun but still has a very open air feel. On my most recent visit I got the Feral Smash Burger with Cheddar instead of American Cheese. I ordered the tots for my side because I swore that I had gotten them many times in the past. Looking back at all my photos, clearly I was mistaken. Since I am not a big fan of sweet potato the bartender brought me fries instead to go with my side of Beer Cheese which is well worth the added cost. Depending on when you go, you may have to go inside to order at the bar for the outdoor seating (such as I did today). Other days when the TED is busier and peak times you can order at the outdoor bar. For solo lunch dining I prefer other options in the TED but Ferus is great for groups and outdoor dining. I am sure I will be back especially when my daughter comes to town since she likes to refill her growler with the seasonal sours.

I'm in the Trussville area often and have noticed this place for a while, but today was the first…read moretime I finally had the chance to try it. For context, I'm a certified KCBS BBQ judge and run a small BBQ catering business. That doesn't make me special, but it does mean I know BBQ. Rodney Scott is well-known in the BBQ world for whole hog, so I've been looking forward to trying his food for a long time. Today was the day. I ordered the 3-meat plate with ribs, pulled pork, and turkey, plus two sides. Ribs: Excellent smoke flavor and seasoning, but very undercooked--they needed at least another hour on the smoker. I received three bones, managed to eat most of two, and left the third. Big disappointment. Turkey: Tender but dry, and it tasted like it had been sliced a while earlier and held. Very neutral flavor with no smoke or seasoning coming through. Just okay, but I'd skip it next time. Pulled pork: Completely underwhelming. Tender, but almost no flavor and none of the smoke I expected, especially after tasting the ribs. Mac and cheese: Grainy and not enjoyable. There are several reasons mac and cheese can turn grainy, but either way, I'd pass on it next time. Collard greens: Surprisingly good, but I was shocked they didn't have pepper juice available--a Southern staple with greens. I'd eat these again, but I'd bring my own pepper juice. Overall: I left disappointed. I mentioned to the staff--who were very friendly--that the meal wasn't good, but it was brushed off. With the level of anticipation I had for Rodney Scott's, this visit didn't come close to expectations. I don't see myself returning.
