I like this Waffle House a lot…read more It's my go to place for some food to actually eat after I have dined at Weidman's here in Meridian. That's a whole other story. My review for them is in jail. It was bad, I will admit, but I believe it will be set free in time. The last time I came here everything and everyone was great. I even got challenged to a race by a guy in Cadillac CT5-V who was just hanging in the parking lot. I could have taken him, but had been drinking that night. I mean, I was at a Waffle House. My server was fantastic. She knew a bunch of folks by their first names. It's like a hometown diner in here. Well.... I guess it is. It's clean in here. They cook stuff quickly. It's right and just tastes great. Dude on the grill is a bad ass. I've gotten quite fond of topped and covered hash browns. No where else in the current world that I know of where you can get a protein packed 3-4 oz add on for $.50! What?!?!? There is something great about Waffle House. I just love it. I wish I could own my own actually. '25 - 88/111

We both decided on the All Star Special, (classic waffle, bacon, toast, one with grits, the other with hash browns) and orange juice. We had Felix's Special--Shrimp Remoulade Salad with a grilled pimento cheese and applewood smoked bacon sandwich on sourdough. Both were very good: fresh shrimp, and a well-toasted sandwich with smoky bacon and melted pimento cheese. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was pleasant. A solid stop if you're passing through Meridian.

Since 1870, Weidmann's has welcomed everyone from railroad workers and weary travelers to soldiers and hometown heroes, earning its place in Mississippi's history. Founded by Swiss immigrant Felix Weidmann, the restaurant opened during Meridian's rise as one of the South's busiest railroad crossroads. During World War I, the restaurant temporarily relocated to Hattiesburg to help feed the thousands of soldiers training at nearby Camp Shelby. One of its quirkiest traditions is the complimentary peanut butter and crackers brought to every table. During World War II, butter rationing led the restaurant to serve peanut butter and crackers instead. Customers loved it so much that the tradition continues more than 80 years later. In 1935, when brothers Al and Fred Key took to the skies in their airplane, Ole Miss, they weren't just chasing a world record--they were trying to save Meridian's airport from closing during the Great Depression. They spent an unbelievable 653 hours and 34 minutes--more than 27 days--without landing. They stayed aloft by pioneering air-to-air refueling techniques. Their record stood until astronauts aboard Skylab surpassed the duration in space in 1973. One of the celebrations honoring their historic flight took place right here at Weidmann's, forever connecting the restaurant to one of aviation's greatest achievements. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and they were outstanding. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the grits were creamy and full of flavor, and every bite tasted fresh and homemade. Of course, you can't leave without trying their famous peanut butter and crackers--a tradition that's become part of the restaurant's history. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was warm and full of character, and you can tell they take pride in preserving this historic landmark. If you appreciate great Southern food and places with a story to tell, Weidmann's is absolutely worth the stop.

My problem was with the off duty cop who was bullying patrons by showing them his hand cuffs when they were loud or taking too long to complete things like going to the bathroom or paying. The best part is that he actively threatened to call the on-duty cops. When my party did have the cops called on us, the on-duty cop APOLOGIZED for the unprofessional actions of the WaHo Security Bully. TL;DR Don't go to this WaHo late at night; not because of the patrons, food or service, but because of the Security Bully who is a total buzz kill ..... and apparently doesn't have anything better to do than get pissed off at people who like their lives more than he does.

Ambiance - A locally owned gas store / deli, you can order a variety of FRIED food, both Surf or Turf, plates, family style or a la cart. The only fresh seafood they might have is Crawfish, when in seasoned. There are three or four small tables to seat and eat. I recommend as order as takeout. Service - the staff were fast and friendly. With a steady supply of locals coming through, they ready to take your order. The deli section is stocked with a lot of fried items so you can get your food quicker. However, I would recommend to get one of their PoBoy sandwiches. You won't go wrong. You may have to wait 5-10 minutes but it worth it. Food - 4 Stars Shrimp PoBoy combo w fries and drink. $13.99 I would have given it 5 stars but the fries were overcooked and too crunchy. The quality of the potato of the fries could be better too. The bread was fluffy and toasty just as it should be for a PoBoy! The amount of shrimp was overwhelming. See pictures. The sandwhich came w lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes. No mayo. I ordered the 8" combo meal but they have a 6" size, if you counting your calories because your cholesterol will still be high with the amount of fried food! Oh, I forgot, they have shrimp fried rice too. So get a side order! I forgot to order mine. Bummer. Enjoy
