From the moment I walked in, I could sense it was one of those places. One of the places where the workers visually and verbally show they hate the job they work at, but still try to serve the customer anyways. As I sat at the counter, I just got this vibe like despite being the customer, I was a major interference to the lives of the workers. They didn't seem friendly. None of the ol, "Hi welcome to Waffle house!" or "How are you today?" or "What can I get for you today?" None of that. I've worked food service and customer service most of my life. Putting on the good customer service front is an absolute MUST for that kind of job. So today, I ordered a Sirloin Steak with Eggs, Toast, and Sausage. As I was ordering my food, I could see it in the eyes of the Waitress and hear it in her tone. She REALLY did not want to be there and seemed like she wanted to just say, just hurry up and order already. I order my food and wait for it to be cooked. I managed to overhear the waitress and another waitress talking. They were trash talking a previous customer who didn't leave a tip, even going as far as to use PROFANITY. IN FRONT OF A CUSTOMER! It didn't end there. My waitress was venting her problems not only within an earshot of a customer, but TO the customer, like she was looking for sympathy points leading to an extra tip. Why are you venting your frustrations to a random stranger? Especially when that person is the CUSTOMER! First off, that's very unprofessional. Second, that makes things awkward and uncomfortable for the customer to the point of never coming back. Third off, most people in that situation REALLY don't care. The only reason customers go there is to have a nice relaxing meal, not play the role of your therapist. Forth, this is extremely unprofessional and not a good look for Waffle House as a whole. Now this might not go over well with some of you, but I don't ever tip. Mostly because I am an avid believer that tipping is optional and let me explain why. Now a days, the rate of inflation is way to high. Normal necessities such as food and services cost WAY TOO MUCH money. That meal I bought today was $11.50. I should mention due to health related issues, I've been out of work for nearly a year with no chance of returning. Meaning I have no reliable source of income. To me, I pay what is EXPECTED for me to pay. Which tax included is the $11.50. Nowhere on that bill was a mandatory tip. Some of us aren't lucky enough to have all the money in the world. So for those who have limit or no income, are you expecting them to throw on a 10% on top of what they already paid when it's not apart of the exchange they agree upon? I feel like these days people feel like tipping is EXPECTED of you. News Flash! It's not. No one will arrest you for not leaving a tip. No one will fine you for not leaving a tip. No one will kill you for not leaving a tip. You gain nothing by leaving a tip. You leave a tip out of the kindness of your heart if you are able to but it is in no way mandatory to the transaction. One of the single worst things ANY worker could ever do is tip shame someone, or even worse, shame a customer behind their back in front of another customer for not leaving a tip, going as far as to use verbal profanity. And yes, there was an F bomb dropped. Now let's talk about the food. It was pretty Meh. It didn't really blow me away compared other Waffle Houses or anywhere else in general. The Sausage kind of looked dried out and the toast was burnt. This meal that prepared definitely wasn't a labor of love I can tell you that much. This place absolutely REEKS of Unprofessionalism on every degree. Just on unprofessionalism alone, I have to give this place 1 star out of 5.
EDIT: Ordered the Sirloin Steak, Scrambled Eggs, Toast, and a water on 12/24/23. I must have waited AT LEAST 20 minutes, and when I finally got the food, the Steak AND the Eggs were cold. I realized Past Me only gave this place a 2 Star review before, so I'm fixing it to be a 1 Star Review. By the way, if the Staff is reading this and is wondering who I was, ITSA ME! MARIO! WOO HOO! read more
