Chris walks the extra mile in the store, answers the phone for Wadlers 80% of the time and great at selling an alternative device if the item I need is not in stock and listens to customers concerns. Tom is also there and gives great direction ensuring I can get in and out of the store quickly. He also will walk and often offers to help carry items back to the counter for me. I love shopping here as store is massive, organized and clean. There is a variety of many items with prices clearly marked. I've heard others complain the prices are inflated but I didn't feel that way as much of the merchandise is at a higher quality if you compare to big chain home improvement stores. Just a side note to that...I'm not a contractor but hubby is and he is familiar with what materials should cost. Prices are appropriate. Staff is friendly, helpful, and readily available. Large parking lot with 2 different entrances provides easy access. read more

I moved to Delaware County about 11 years ago, and Wadler Bros. quickly became (and has remained) one of my favorite stores. They have anything that a home-improvement store or hardware store could reasonably be expected to carry (and then some); the prices are fair; and I've always found the staff friendly and helpful. There have been quite a few times when I've stopped by with nothing more than a vague idea in my head, and walked out with a plan and everything I needed to make it happen because store staff brainstormed the project with me and gave me ideas that helped my vague idea a reality. Wadler Bros. is also a True Value franchise and carries (or can order) anything that True Value sells. I've read a lot of reviews that only mentioned masks and said nothing about the store itself. If whether people in the store are wearing masks is your main concern, then maybe this store isn't for you. Some employees wear them, some don't. Customers are free to wear them or not wear them as they see fit. There are plexiglass barriers at the checkout, however, and social distancing is enforced; so I, as an older man with multiple risk factors, feel comfortable shopping at this store. The hours took a while to get used to. The store is open M-F from 7:30 a.m to 4 p.m., and 7:30 to noon on Saturday. They are closed Sundays and on major civil and Jewish holidays. I'm semi-retired and live close by, so none of that is an issue for me. If you're coming from a distance, be aware that this store's hours are pretty limited. In summary, I like this store. I like the location, the selection, the prices, and the people. It's also nice to support a local family business, not to mention not having to drive to Kingston every time I need a nut or a bolt. read more

Despite poor reviews...Wadlers still at this late date in the Covid disaster...does not seem to care Or get what customers need...better to drive further and be safe as Wadlers workers are putting their customers at risk. What is made clear from the excuse as to why this worker wasn't wearing a mask? "Because I'm not wearing one". No one was wearing masks as of July 6th. We were very uncomfortable shopping there. I called the next day to complain and they were very dismissive. So... even though we got a really good quote for windows that day, we decided to shop elsewhere, where customers well being is taken seriously. read more

Not a great place to work. Employees are not treated fair.

I'm a local contractor and I stopped by Wadlers Bros to pick up lumber for a job. Needing straight boards I scanned through a few then one of the employees said I have to take whatever is there. I looked at 2 more and was asked to leave. I've never been to a lumber yard where you weren't able to check the quality of the boards first. Needless to say, I'll never go back. read more

So the place is massive, and the options are endless. But that's where the romance ends. Once they have your money, youre no longer a priority. I ordered windows and doors and paid for delivery, after canceling twice on my delivery, they wouldn't even give me a firm date to deliver them. I decided to pick them up myself, and couldn't even get assistance loading them into a truck i paid alot to rent one for the day. My presence alone was an inconvenience to them. They feel like they have a monopoly and act as if they are too big to fail. Take your business where the service continues past the Sale!! read more

The Delta variant is much more contagious, therefore going without a mask puts people you come in contact with in more danger. It might be the life of an older person you cause without knowing it. Avoid. Wadler's is not safe during the time of the pandemic. The staff does not wear masks! And because of that, they attract customers who don't wear masks. And the store is also not careful about social distancing. We asked the guy at the counter why they won't wear masks and he refused to answer. So I guess they are making a political statement. Ugh. They don't care about people who are at risk in the community. So I now avoid this place and go to Brookside nearby in Margaretville. Or to Lowes in Kingston or I'll order online if I need to. Really a great place to get what you need for all your home improvements projects. I'm a house renovator and have been shopping there for 8 years. selection is very wide and you'll find lots of items the big box home improvement stores just won't carry. their lumber quality is ten times better then the Depot, much drier and lighter than the competition and with less defects then the depot lumber. Customer service and commitment to you ,even if you lack any professional contracting skills, is very good. The owners will work the counter and are so practical in their advise to you as is the entire staff. They wont make you feel like a fish out of water because you're not an experienced carpenter or electrician. The entire staff has been so helpful to me that they have made me much more skilled at my renovation and hobby work. Can't thank these Wadler Bros. owners and staff for being so helpful and usually saving me a trip to Kingston to get the products and advise that I need. Called first to see if they had the color item I needed for a project. The person who answered the phone asked if I would like him to look for it. Wow, sure I said. He came back and advised he had the color in stock. When I got there another nice young man also helped with my choice of paint that matched a project I have in mind. Great service. read more

I was recently in Kingston and remembered I needed a 6" length of plastic tubing. Popped into Lowe's, went to aisle 32 and was surprised to see that I would need to buy a 10 ft. piece. More accumulated "stuff" that I may or may not use again? $9.95 to get the needed 6"? Went to Wadler Brothers the following day and bought a 6" piece for FIFTY CENTS! So I moved to Delaware County NY and it's time for me to get serious about putting in reviews in my new home area. I waited to write this review until I had been to the store at least three times. The first time was a five star but there was nothing complicated that I needed. The second time was a four star and this third time was a two star experience for an average of 3 stars. Let me start by saying I am NOT the handiest gal with any knowledge of the technical terms that hardware personnel or contractors use. Today all I needed was 4 casters for my galvanized steel Garden Center that I'm putting on casters because I'm now going to store firewood on it and I want to move it around so I can clean underneath it since it'll be right outside my front door. So I ask one of the employees for help. He shows me to the area where casters are and when I asked well how will I know which one I need he then told me I have to "figure it out". So instead of blowing a gasket I told him okay I'll simply never come here ever again. His response equally pleasant was "fine". So I'm heading to walk out and another gentleman ask me if I need anything so I asked him who the owner is. He replies himself. So I tell him what happened. He walks me to another aisle where there's a handy contraption to determine the size thread. We then go back to where the casters are and unfortunately they don't have it in stock but neither does he offer to order it. So that's a three star experience that could have been a one star but was saved by the owner. However, then I say okay I've got another project and I pull out a wooden dowel with screws that I intend to duplicate using copper pipe and fittings. Instead of hearing me fully out he simply says no don't have it. Well that brings me back to a one star experience. So to be fair to the business and two other employees who I had excellent experiences with I give Wadler Brothers an overall 3 stars. My interpretation of today's activities and my prior two experiences is that this is a contractor's and professionals super hardware and lumber store. This is not for dilettantes like me. I guess I'll have to take my business back to Lowes where their employees are trained to work with women who don't come from the trades background. read more

Have your list ready (!!!) as the staff are helpful and knowledgeable and point you to where products are, explain things if needed and just overall great service. Usually I am in and out in minutes, the opposite of home depot and lowes where you wander the aisles searching for stuff. read more

Not only does this store carry everything, the staff and owners are so helpful. Steven helped my husband and I choose siding materials for our shed. He walked us through the whole process, saved us money, gave us the courage to take on this project (we warned him we're not that handy!) and sent a truck to pick up the leftover materials. Me: "Hi. Can you help me? I have a question about power tools." Older man with glasses that was working behind counter and telling people when they should go on break "Yeah...they go Vroom Vroom." Here is a little hint to the owners of Wadler Brothers: Paying customers are good to have. You want as many paying customers as possible. Business 101. Don't insult your customers. I have had a second home in the region for 15 years but I do not go often enough to be recognized by the staff. Every time I have gone there the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They have by far the most complete inventory of any store within 15 miles, you could literally build an entire house if you needed to.
