We lucked out tonight! Vue is open for outdoor dining with a delicious menu! The whales were super close and Vue had the deck open so we decided to have an early dinner. We did an assortment of small plates: roasted beet on arugula salad, fresh ceviche, calamari and flat bread with smoked trout, fig and goat cheese. My husband raved about the ceviche and my favorite was the flat bread. A great local wine list, and voila, dinner! We felt very safe on the deck - tables were limited and staff wears masks, face shields and gloves. Minus 1 star because I had to ask for water refills more than once. Thanks, Vue and Tina! read more

Vue Kitchen - Whale views - New American Near Me - Gualala, California

Delicious! We had the Tipsy Sardinian and Clam Chowder. Great flavor, fresh ingredients, top notch service!! Thanks for a wonderful meal!

We were staying in Gualala for the weekend and were looking for a nice restaurant for dinner. This one looks really nice from the outside and has nice views of the ocean, hence the name. The restaurant interior is very nice with a beautiful fireplace in the waiting area, a large bar area, and two dining rooms by the kitchen. The hostess was not very friendly and just seemed a little flustered. The waiter was very friendly and nice. We ordered the ceviche to start with a couple drinks. They don't have a cocktail menu, but they seem to have a full bar. They only have wines by the glass on the menu. It would be nice to have a cocktail list and bottles of wine. The ceviche was huge, with big chunks of cod, tomato, and parsley and was served with fried tortillas. This was a good dish. For our entrees, I ordered the tipsy Sardinian, which was fish, shrimp, and black and white pasta in a creamy sauce. This was excellent. The creamy sauce was rich and delicious and the fish and shrimp were cooked well. The contrast of regular and squid ink pasta was interesting. My husband ordered the catch of the day, which was prosciutto wrapped halibut with mushroom risotto. This is where the service got weird. When they brought the dish out, the fish was served on top of brown rice, not risotto as we were told. The fish was rather dry, which would have benefited from the risotto. My husband asked the waiter why there wasn't risotto and he said the kitchen ran out of risotto. So my husband asked for another dish and ordered the short ribs. The waiter took the dish back and said he would put in the order for the short ribs. Then the waiter came back and said the kitchen would make a small amount of risotto and fix the halibut dish. We then asked him to just bring the short ribs. It seemed weird to us that they first ran out of risotto, served brown rice instead without telling or asking us, then take the dish back and put in the original risotto. At first the server was kind of argumentative and insisted on bringing back the halibut, then said he would send out the chef to explain to us why we were going to have the halibut. Then the waiter came back and said they would give us the short ribs, he apologized for arguing with us, and mentioned something about the cost of the original dish being taken out of his check. It wasn't really his fault that the kitchen sent out brown rice without telling him. The short ribs were delicious, saucy, rich, and fatty. We ordered flourless chocolate cake for dessert, which the waiter comped for us. But they charged us for the halibut, which was more expensive than the short ribs. We were over the service, so we didn't want to say anything. I think the management is bad since they would take a dish out of the waiter's check because of a kitchen mistake. read more

Great view and delicious food. Lovely upscale restaurant. The service was friendly and good, and the ambience is very attractive.

Don't trust website, they do not update it at all. I wanted to order fish and chips which I saw on the website and they didn't have it. The waitress said oh we only serve that at the bar on certain days but she didn't know what the days were. No garden dinner salads!!!! two orders of fettuccine, short ribs, Calamari (not tasty) and 3 sodas for $165.00. Next day we went to the Seafood Shack no view but the food was off the chain! read more

I can't say enough about how much I relished our dining experience at the Vue Kitchen on our recent road trip down the West Coast. After driving for hours we checked into a hotel just across the street and were starving. We had a two-year old in tow (not the greatest thing for a restaurant staff to deal with) but they all made us feel entirely welcome and bent over backwards to accommodate us and our kid. Our server Oliver (or Arturo per a previous post) was amazing. Great sense of humor, patient, attentive, and congenial to our needs, and turned the evening into an experience without being overbearing. His table service was so excellent I was sure he must have been the owner or manager but was wrong (guy deserves a raise in my book). A couple of cases in point: My wife doesn't drink so asked if they could whip up some sort of "mocktail". Fresh squeezed raspberry syrup with crushed mint and soda water came out and was fantastic. Our baby lapped it up and we almost had to order two so my wife could have more. Decent beer selection both bottled and tapped that I took advantage of too. Not a big wine expert so can't speak to that, but I know they had some local NoCal stuff that seemed good to the untrained eye. But the food was truly exceptional. They do seasonal MP "Cuts" or "Fish" of the day specials that were cool, but I ordered the short ribs and they were about the best I've ever had. Soft and buttery and fell off the bone, with a wine based red sauce to die for backed by some garlic mash potatoes and bacon chard. The portion was admirable and I pretty much cleared my plate which is a rarity. My wife got the King Salmon and it came out a little "tartare" for her liking. It's a valid gourmet style of cooking but she wanted to share it with the kid and is squeamish about introducing "raw" fish into our kid's diet (I have plans on ramping up to sushi for my own selfish interests, but that's a story for another time). Even though it was top shelf as it was and I always feel like a dick complaining about an order especially at a nice joint like the Vue, we asked if they would mind taking it back and cooking it a little more. Not a problem, no eyebrows raised, and Oliver was very kind and understanding about rectifying the situation as soon as possible. We got it handled in minutes and the new portion was absolutely amazing per my wife and kid's reaction. We were there during the low season in the dead of winter, but I can't even imagine how cool it would be to go there again in the spring or summer where the outside patio dining and ocean view would be in full effect. I'd give it 6 stars if I could, and if the management is reading this, please give Oliver / Arturo a raise already God Damn It! His banter alone made it one of the funner meals I've ever had when I was half burnt out from driving all day and just needed some sustenance and respite from the road. Planning on hitting this place up again on our way back up the coast once the holidays are over. read more

The food here is amazing! The restaurant is gorgeous from the outside to when you walk in and the staff is so wonderful! My husband dropped his napkin and had a new one in his hand before we even realized he dropped it. Flawless!! The owner is so kind and thoughtful! Thank you Chris read more

If you are sensitive to salt or spices this is the place for you. The service is fantastic, however my group did not enjoy most of our food that much as it lacked flavor in our opinion. The view is really nice at anytime as it is right off the beach. That said expect to only drink water if you don't want alcohol. All in all 4*s because lack of drink options and food was not meant for someone like me that loves lots of spices rather than lots of herbs and no spices. read more

Great view. Pasta is good. Not much for children though. It's windy out back. Bring sweaters

I was attracted to this place because of the architecture. A nice steel, concrete, and glass building. Large glass windows out the back provides a beautiful view of the Ocean and Gualala River. A nice patio gives a great 180 degree view of both. I made reservations but showed up an hour early. Was greeted and seated right away. Custom service is amazing, friendly and attentive. When we were leaving every single person said thank you. We started out with the crab dumpling appetizer, so good. I was foolish and order the steak, we are on the coast, it was a little to much fat and a little over cooked. The wife had the Cod and it was delicious. Here is the kicker - they have a Pasteur chef and I just had the best creamiest cheesecake I have ever had. Give that chef a medal please, he'll give them a Michelin Star! Great job Vue! read more

Yes, the food is really good! We just had a great meal. Started off with cocktails, clam chowder and beet salad. The chowder and salad were very good! Very flavorful and fresh. We had the Tipsy Sardinian and Alfredo pasta with shrimp. Both were excellent. I would love a few more clams but I am not complaining. The shrimp were large and perfectly cooked. For dessert, we split a NY Cheesecake. It was very good but creamier than a true NY. Service was excellent. Our waitress Elle was very friendly but also efficient. The other wait staff were also attentive keeping our water filled and clearing the table. Vue is expensive but the food is great, along with the view (if it is not foggy) and is a great location for a splurge night out. read more

Hands down the best restaurant on the coast between Marin and Mendocino. Outstanding food and service in a stunning spot. We make reservations in the adjoining Breakers hotel to assure we don't have to go too far. Everything is great but particularly the flatbread with duck and fig jam and the Osso bucco which could not be more tender. read more

This was my third visit and we were disappointed to be charged almost $40 for a surprisingly small piece of overcooked salmon. We were charged $12 for two orders of bread... not artisan or homemade but what appeared to be average store-bought bread. We did not know there was a charge for the bread until we saw the bill. The other entrees were good and reasonably priced. But there was no excuse for the salmon and bread. Will not return- three strikes rule. On a positive note, the wait staff were charming and very accommodating. read more

We had the most delightful 25th wedding anniversary dinner at Vue Kitchen. They gave us the best corner table on their lovely outdoor patio. The duck prosciutto flatbread looked as good as it tasted and the delicious bacon meatloaf was hearty enough to fill us both. Best of all, Tina our waitress told us about the tragic fire that destroyed the Old Milano Hotel, where we'd spent our wedding night in Gualala 25 years earlier. Thanks to her clear directions, we were at least able to visit the site on which it once stood and take photos. This was a memorable experience, and we are grateful to have found this place to celebrate a milestone. Kudos also to the manager who took the time to write down my name and contact information for contact tracing purposes. Only 1 other restaurant we've been to has taken that extra precaution and I appreciate their concern during these pandemic times. read more

The Vue kitchen was stellar. Completely unexpected stop on a journey northward. Cozy little bar on the side when you walk in. They had a piano player and a cellist creating an ambiance that took you back decades to a simpler time. Water front views and charming staff. I never eat gluten, but devoured the homemade pasta. The pork shank was both amazingly presented and delicious. Cudos to the chef! read more

I have stayed at the Hotel Breakers on two separate trips in 2018 and both times had a wonderful experience with the large clean rooms and most of all the amazing views. The staff is super friendly and helpful. And the bonus was the restaurant, Vue Kitchen, next door that has some of the most delicious food. Recommend this hotel and definitely don't miss having at least one meal at Vue Kitchen. read more

We spend a long weekend in Gualala and ate dinner at Vue twice. We came back for Brunch on Sunday. Great views of the ocean, well stocked bar, knowledgable staff and beautiful food presentation. Being from Texas I was asking for salsa to spice up the potatoes that came with the most delicious lobster and Brie omelette. The waiter informed me that they did not have any salsa but they offered to make me some fresh pico de gallo on the spot. My favorite dish was the Local Cod since I am a fan of crunchy skin. The poached egg could have been a little runnier for my taste but I will just ask for the next time. One of my friends had the Bouillabaisse and gave me a spoonful to try. Very flavorful. Oh, I totally forgot that the Roasted Beet Salad! I am a big fan of goat cheese medallions. Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Perfect! read more

Thanksgiving dinner so yum!!! Was camping nearby and came for dinner. Good portion. They have full bar as well.

We dined here Saturday evening. The view of the ocean was spectacular. The restaurant was small, and had few wait staff. The owner (or manager?) was present and seemed to be hovering over all of the staff the entire evening to ensure things ran smoothly. Our server Holly was perfect. She made excellent appetizer/menu suggestions and knew exactly when it was appropriate to check back in. We shared a fabulous crab dim sum appetizer. We also each had the special, Bodega Bay Halibut w/ an olive tapenade and 3-4 green beans that was to die for. The halibut was flaky, moist and flavorful. The only complaint was the entrees could have been warmer vs lukewarm, and we would have appreciated some more green beans. For dessert we shared a blueberry cheesecake which was divine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

Kind of nice interior. I had the fish special cod with pr apple salsa, rice and broccoli. It had no taste. The code was overdone. Difficult to cut with a fork. Had a soft drink. $53. A real rip off, read more

food, very good...we used our forks to cut up our beet salad and rather than offering a clean one, the waiter placed the used one back on the table. We both were surprised. Our meals were very good. I had the pork osso bucco served with polenta and broccoli, the bone was pretty big, however there was more than enough meat, the sauce accompanying was good. My husband ordered halibut served with rice and broccoli atop the fish was pineapple red pepper like salsa , the fish was perfectly pan fried. As to ambience, how can you go wrong with the ocean facing you. I have only one tiny criticism, the handprints on the door and it's need for some windex. Last, this is definitely pricey but in this case we felt we got our moneys worth. read more

Fabulous food, and service was our experience! Would highly recommend this place! A great view of thesunset!

Arrived for dinner with my family after an hours long drive. The food was bland and flavorless, which was unfortunate because it was plated very nicely. It took forever to get our drinks from the bar even though they weren't busy when we got there. The bartender appeared to be fumbling every task in front of him and did not look at all familiar with working behind a bar. Our entree never arrived and they double charged us for our drinks. Our 7 year old spilled his drink and no one came to assist with the cleanup. The hostess was warm and inviting and was the only welcoming face we encountered during our dining experience. The patrons kept giving my family and I dirty looks and made us feel extremely unwelcome. As a family of color it's disappointing but not surprising reception especially in an establishment that caters to an uncultured, entitled monochrome group of patrons. I should also note that we were the only people of color in the main dining room. But hey the view was nice. read more

Arrived the first night and the service was on point!!!. I scanned their menu and asked for references, I went with the eggplant lasagna and I travel back in time, this dish is so amazing needless to say, that it is a great option when you are conscious about your meals. Holly was attentive, cordial, and amicable. Overall the best service I've got is from Andie who recommended me the short-ribs, however I had my decision made on the lasagna, my dish was the bomb, that I considered coming back before my trip ended. And so I did, I almost didn't make it but I did arrived near closing time, I sat in the bar and treated myself to the Short-ribs this time. I do not have enough words to describe the flavors, texture, scents, and the visuals from this Dish. And not only that, the most professional, outstanding, and amazing service from Andie. For you the reader; if you are trying to decide if you stop by, do it, it's worth it 100% Plus the Vue of the ocean it's marvelous. read more

Staff was very nice sat us at a ocean view table ( They all are ) We split the beet salad , she ordered the braised ribs , I change it up with the fettuccine alfredo triple cream and pecorino romano with shrimp all very good but the fettuccine top 5 for me. Dropped into Vue Kitchen on my birthday for dinner, after having read all the good and bad reviews, from ecstatic to horrific. So we were game and prepared for anything at all. And had the best dinner with the best service. Tina was our server, and she was absolutely wonderful. I had the short ribs, which were quite delicious, cooked perfectly. My husband had the flank steak, with a chimichurri sauce and fries, and that was quite yummy as well. We were relieved that the main dining room wasn't packed, in fact only half full. Also appreciated the front desk taking our name and phone number for potential contact tracing. All in all a lovely experience; we plan to be back when next we're in Sea Ranch! read more

Great view, even when you have your back to the window (which I did), there is an excellent mirror so you don't miss that gorgeous sunset. Started dinner with a fabulous gin martini, what better way to start off the evening. My friend and I both had the short ribs, which were delicious and very filling, the serving was just right. The others had the halibut, which they said was delicious as well. We happened to be at the market in Gualala when we saw the restaurant (which of course we had already researched on YELP) and stopped to take a look. We made a reservation for that night and were not the least disappointed. A gem not to be overlooked. read more

To sum up the food of this place, I'd say it's mediocre and bland. Not offensively so, but absolutely not worth the prices. I went with my family of 6 and we all bought a good spread of what was available on the menu and dish after dish was just disappointing. The presentation was fine, but the flavor and texture were just not good. So I would implore anyone that is in the Gualala area to not go to this restaurant. Feels like a tourist trap place in truth. read more

We were there early last evening for dinner. It's a renovated version of a restaurant in Gualala that's been around for a while, but this was our first trip. The renovation was done nicely with pleasant, modern decor and a very nice view. Dining experiences in Gualala are limited, basically St Orres and everything else. This is one of the better ones. I had fried calamari, a roasted beet salad, and lasagna. My wife had the bouillabaisse. All dishes were tasty and well-prepared. The lasagna stood out for being vegan using eggplant instead of pasta. It was topped with a flavorful tomato sauce. Our sole complaint about the food was it was served warm, not hot. The service was friendly and attentive. The wine list is limited, but OK. If you're in Gualala, this is one of the better restaurant One year later: Here's an update from 2019. Not much has changed. One caution is that when it's cold outside, it's cold inside, particularly in the bar. The seats by the fireplace are best, but there's still a draft. The service is cordial and helpful, but awfully slow - doesn't appear to be well organized. There seem to be only wines by the glass (extremely limited) and mixed drinks. We had margaritas and they were good. Overall, it's as good as it gets in Gualala in late November - just dress warmly read more
