Poor service, food prep quality, and dining room ambiance. Good bar views to the ocean.

Sorry for folks that haven't had a great time and food here at Vue because we did! Excellent ribeye steak and their signature dish "Tipsy Sardinian". Our waiter, Oliver, a jolly and gregariousness soul, was attentive and food arrived in a timely fashion. A bit expensive but everything in California is more expensive than elsewhere! We travel the world and The Sea Ranch is our favorite place on earth and the addition of this restaurant makes it hard to leave. read more

On the way down the coast back to Petaluma ( AKA work and kids ). Saw the fire pit from the road and we decided to extend our 20th anniversary with a brunch. Wow! What a find .. amazing views, warm atmosphere, quick and kind service, and amazing food. The only down side is that we live two hours away.. we will be back as soon as we can! read more

Food good, Service not so much. Four of us in for dinner, made reservations, seated immediately. Not many people in the restaurant yet it took 15 minutes for anyone to greet us or get us menus. For appetizers we had the crab chowder, ceviche and crab dim sum...all were tasty and enjoyable. Three of us had the bouillabaisse and one had the meatloaf. We were all pleased with both the flavor and quality of the entrees. The flourless chocolate cake was the best of the desserts. On the downside, the wine list is rather limited and the prices are probably 15% too high. We ordered a pleasant Sav Blanc but $38 was rather outrageous for a no-name label vinted and bottled in Santa Rosa. Nevertheless, my rating would have been five stars except that the service was abysmal. Every step in the process was incredibly slow and despite the fact that the crowd was building by the time we were finished, I had to flag down our waiter to get my check and after 10 minutes, I finally grabbed a random employee to run my credit card. We will try again and hope for better service. read more

We may have hit this place on an off night, but we were not satisfied with most of the food. We ordered pickup, and after 30 minutes we arrived to pick up the food. Front desk staff very nice. All food in well-marked containers. When we got back to our VRBO, we ate the crab cakes, which were very nice, and tasted quite fresh. I had ordered the Sumac half chicken, which was very dry, I got very little from the breast, and the leg was also old and dry. My wife had ordered the fish and chips. There were 1.5 pieces of greasy fish which amounted to no more than a few tablespoons, the rest mostly batter. The fries were quite good, however. We ended up sharing the chicken, so my wife would have enough to eat. On the plus side, the rice pilaf and asparagus that came with the chicken were delicious. In sum, crab cakes and sauces, 5 stars, salad 3 stars, asparagus and rice 5 stars, chicken and fish 1 star. read more

This is a great restaurant! Beautiful views, ambiance and great service. Highly recommend if you are looking for a swankier feel in this amazing coastal beach town. read more

Very disappointed with the service at the Vue. We had reservations for a special family event. When we arrived they said they lost our reservations. Heard from a reliable business person in town that they have often used this ploy because they don't like to serve children. Wish we would have known up front. read more

We were looking for a restaurant in Gualala while on vacation and just sort of stumbled upon this place, and we were not disappointed! The food was so so tasty and the service was excellent. Our server was so kind and accommodating. Love this place and would totally go back!! read more

Just finished dinner at Vue and honestly, it was terrible... from start to finish. We were so excited to try it because of the reviews but our experience was so very difference than most Yelpers. We had the ceviche, which had little to no flavor. Then we ordered the beet salad, which tasted fine but the beet to goat cheese ratio was off. My boyfriend had the steak and it was flavorless. I had the lamb and it was inedible. The presentation was beautiful but it lacked in flavor. The mashed potatoes were also flavorless and the Brussel sprouts were so undercooked I had to cut them with a steak knife. They don't have a wine list so the waiter just rattles off all of their wine. They also don't have a dessert menu. The waiter lists them all but not in a way that was appealing enough to order one ... and since I didn't eat my entree, I was in the mood for dessert. Management needs to really consider printing a wine list and dessert menu. This place is trying to be something it's not. Overall, totally disappointed in our meal and would never return. That being said, the lady sitting next to me had a cheeseburger and it looked good! read more

Aw. We were hoping this would be an alternative to the few good restaurants in town, but...nope. Mediocre food, harassed service, we had to shout over the volume of the background music and clatter. I gave it two points for trying but I'm betting it will go the way of the last two efforts at this site in recent years. It's a shame; the architecture and view are impressive. read more

I came in right before closing and ordered the meatloaf. The waitress was very nice food was hot and on point right before they closed. Enough said! read more

This was our first time at Vue and we could not have had a better experience. Everything about it was fantastic. From our wonderful server Arturo who made us feel so special and well taken care of, to the amazing food, this was a great night. Our party of five tried a wide variety of things and everything was wonderful. I needed gluten free and the chef was willing to modify the "tipsy sardinian" with risotto for me. She ended up creating the most delicious meal that everyone at the table tried and raved over. We were even able to chat with her and thank her as she came out and actually helped clear our table! We loved the way the whole crew worked together, it made for such a great atmosphere. We will definitely be back! read more

We enjoyed a phenomenal meal this evening at Vue. We started with a muscle appetizer that was seasoned and steamed perfectly. The seafood linguini was tasty and not dripping with too much sauce. I had the short ribs that were terrific. Service was super and we look forward to many visits in the future. read more

This is probably our favorite restaurant in town. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two or casual group outing. Highly recommend!

The view is outstanding!! The food is OK but overpriced for what you get. My Caesar salad was OK but my fish and chips were quite mediocre. My wife's cod entree was very unimaginative and uninspired, served with a single leaf of chard which apparently was supposed to suffice as the vegetable. This probably is best as a place to have a drink with a nice view before you go across the street for a great meal for a very reasonable price at the Gualala Hotel. read more

Service lets it down big time. Food was just okay, but so many errors and misguided notions in the service-and many managers hovering around didn't seem to do any good. Oh well, another place in Gualala to skip. read more

My partner and I went to Vue Kitchen at about 4:30 p.m. My partner who went ahead of me inside (sitting by the bar chair) said the bar guy TENDER told him he was going to serve first where there were more of them (who came later after my partner). That bar guy tender needed RE- TRAINING about greeting customers, serving first come FIRST SERVE, courteousness, and professionalism. I told my partner not to eat our dinner there but instead go to Azul Bar and Grill. Bad bad experience. read more

Had dinner there on 8/18/18. The service was ok and the view was amazing. The food was not so great, I ordered the salmon with basmati rice, not only was the food cold, the rice looked like regular rice and had no seasoning. The 1 carrot and 2 asparagus that I got were also cold, no seasoning either. The steaks had alot of fat on them. Not worth the $200.00 bill, when we got there it wasn't packed. It seemed that within 30 hr it got packed and the kitchen got overwhelmed, which is why our plates sat there for so long. Next time well try the Gualala Hotel, which is what was recommended to us but since it was a 50th birthday celebration we thought it would be nice to go fancy, bad choice! read more

Great view. Excellent food. Great service. We came in a little after 6:00 on a Saturday evening. The place was packed. We got seats at the counter across from the bar with a fabulous view of the Gualala River and the Pacific. Whales were in abundance near shore. Service by the humans in the restaurant was quick and efficient. We had drinks and the crab dim sum, which was excellent. A great experience. We will return. read more

Great View! The service was poor. We had to repeatedly ask for water. The waiter was forgetful. The food portions were not generous. Go there for cocktails and enjoy the view! read more

We had a very nice meal here. We arrived a little before the dining room opened and had a well-made cocktail at the bar. We were seated quickly thereafter- food was very fresh- excellent halibut and cod. Fish and chips were also excellent. Kitchen was out of oysters, which was surprising. Friendly service. Amazing views. read more

We just had a really tasty meal at Vue. We stay at the Sea Ranch about once a month and are constantly frustrated by the fact that there is nowhere to eat out. Vue solved that problem tonight. The bacon wrapped meatloaf and mash with roasted carrots was really good, and my husband's fish and chips were locally caught and very good. The fries here are excellent. The wine selection was strong and our server, Annie, could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. We are back at the Sea Ranch for a week in about two weeks and we are bringing the entire family in. Vue will be our new go-to spot when we are at the Sea Ranch. Two thumbs up. read more

Probably some of the best food I have ever had in my life! The food is amazing and the restaurant is gorgeous with it's beautiful views. We had an amazing waitress who offered excellent service and the managers were very nice. We will definitely be back whenever we are in Sea Ranch. Wish I lived closer so I could go to Vue Kitchen all the time. read more

We spent a fabulous weekend at the Hotel Breakers and had several delicious meals at the Vue Kitchen. The first dinner was five in our party and we had Chicken Pazole, Ceviche, roasted beet salad with goat cheese, Local Cod (a thick slab with yummy crispy skin), real tender pork shank (Osso Bucco), tipsy Sardinian (scrumptious seafood and pasta in a light cream sauce), and a seafood fish stew that was hearty and slow cooked in a tomato sauce. Desert was an out of this world carrot cake with fresh pineapple and pecans. The second evening we tried other items from the menu that were all scrumptious. The Sunday brunch was the best I have had in a long time. Definitely world class. Huge eggs Benedict with spinach and lox salmon. Others in the group had lobster omelet with asparagus and the best French Toast made with croissants and dripping sauce with pecans and apple compute. Service was impeccable and we are definitely coming back! read more

The place has poor service, weak drinks, overpriced food & drink. The food menu is lacking.

Unexpected surprise - there's no sign on this place, which fronts Highway 1. We visited with a party of six earlier this week and, as a group, ordered a range of stuff: chicken soup, calamari, oysters on the half shell, fish and chips, crab dim sum, spaghetti and meatballs, Earth stir fry with brown rice, and, for dessert, a Baileys Irish Cream cheesecake. When we walked in, we picked up on the aroma of seafood, so we figured we'd take a flier on the seafood. Crab dim sum was essentially a fried wonton with a wonderful cream cheese filling. The wonton was perfectly crisp. The oysters were perfect and presented with two delicious sauces, including a hot chili sauce. Stir fry and fish and chips were excellent. The meatballs were a little dry. The cheesecake was light and creamy, with a complementary crunchy nut topping and a hint of the Baileys flavor without overwhelming the cake. Our neighboring table had the other dessert choice, a flourless chocolate cake, and they reported it was excellent. Our server was very personable and knowledgeable. The evening atmosphere was soft and inviting. read more

We really want this restaurant to succeed. It is a wonderful location and the views of the Pacific and the mouth of the Gualala River are extraordinary. First, the good stuff: I had an excellent, though bit expensive, bloody mary. The ceviche appetizer continues to be excellent, good portion, excellent flavor. I prefer to add a little hot sauce. The wine by the glass was reasonably priced with a decent selection. The entrees were just "OK". I had the Tipsy Sardinian pasta and found it to be a bit bland but otherwise pleasant. Seafood was well prepared and tasty. My wife had the Braised Short Rib, which was tender but the sauce was not what she expected; it did not seem to complement the beef very well. It was also a bit weird that they charge $6 for bread. The entrees are fairly spendy and I would expect the bread to come with the meal. Service was adequate on a Thursday evening. We are locals (Sea Ranch) and it seems that this place is really targeted more toward tourists. Next time, we may try some of the vegetarian dishes as they look interesting. read more

This is a wonderful new restaurant in Gualala. Gorgeous views so the name is quite apt. Enjoyed the happy hour with wine by the glass and local craft brew on tap. The rock cod ceviche was fresh and tasty with fried corn tortillas cut in triangles and bbq salt. Cheers! read more

This place has potential....great view, one of the few places in town where one can "dine", a nice bar. However, so far it lacks attention to detail and a focus. I've visited twice since they opened and both times I left feeling a bit cheated. The service is friendly but lacks professionalism, I often worried that we might have been forgotten as it took a long time for the appetizer to arrive and then again for the food to come. The restaurant was not full so that could not have been the reason. Both times I visited, the food was good but not spectacular which you sort of expect from the prices which are by no means low. The calamari was dry and cold and lacked enough sauce for dipping, but I still enjoyed it. My pork chop was wonderful, even if the mashed potatoes were on the cold side and not so wonderful. The bouillabaisse I had the first time was excellent but it was served without bread. Never heard of such a thing. Who serves this wonderful dish with the tasty drippings with no bread with which to mop it up? I realize now one can order a side of bread, but why? In addition, the side of bread is $5 for a few slices of mediocre sourdough. To me, that spells a bit of shabbiness, an attempt to get the most dollars out of the diner, a diner who is already paying top prices. I found it irritating. I left a comment explaining my dining experience on FB but never received any feedback so I decided to use this forum. I'm a local and have been looking for a great place for those special dinners for a while and therefore was very excited when I saw that Vue Kitchen had opened. I'm still glad and I might even return but I am hoping things will improve with time. Might just try the bar food next time and skip the dining room. read more

Our dinner was very disappointing. The hotel manager across the street highly recommended "The Vue" and I wish we hadn't listened! The menu is messy, which should've been the first sign. They have no drink list, just wines on the back of the menu. Prices for entrees were high ($30-50) leading us to believe we would have a delicious meal. We started with the ceviche (one of my favorite dishes) and it was the worst I have ever had. I could eat no more than a bite. It had no flavor and the cod chunks were large, chewy and flavorless. After starting with this dish we decided to order the less expensive entrees. I had a salad, which was tiny for $13 and salty, but at least not inedible like the ceviche. My dad had the fish and chips that had only 1 piece of cod for $18! It was so-so, but the portions were lacking. We left hungry and went across the street to Uppercrust Pizza for our second dinner. In all it seems whoever owns The Vue has some culinary knowledge to which they exploit tourists driving through. Don't waste the money. Get pizza. read more

My wife and I had one of the worst meals in recent memory. Where do I begin in this painful experience. The service was poor and food was worse. It took quite a while for the waiter to bring us water. My wife ordered a drink and was concerned that it had a used straw. Our first dish was clam chowder with smoked trout. It should have been called canned chowder with a few pieces of dried out packaged smoked trout. The second dish was beet salad with oversized chunks of under cooked beets; the good part of the salad was the 2 tiny cheese fritters, not a good balance. Last and worst was the Cod dinner consisting of over cooked dry fish, over cooked mushy rice, and out of the package seaweed salad. When we tried to return one of the cod dinners the waiter came back and told us the cook tasted the food and felt it was fine. So much for customer service. At best this place serves sloppy bar food. read more

Not really sure how this restaurant stays in business , I was invited out to brunch by my kids , we arrived and waited outside patiently and excited about Mother's Day with my kids and grands . The man unlocked the door and rather than a greeting says " do you have reservations " which we did and my daughter in law responded yes we do with a couple of extras , as we started in the man was obviously not happy that we had 5 kids , he immediately started corralling them like they had the plague or something , kids must not be his strong suit . Any way my husband who was waiting to go in with the rest of us , saw how flustered he was and obviously not happy about the kids , stepped in the door gathered our grands and said we are obviously not welcome here and we are leaving ! The family behind us with 2 kids then went in and was treated the same way , we all left and walked across the street and had a wonderful mother's day brunch . The thing is the rude man as I found out is the owner ! Did not care at all that our party of 11 left .This is a very SMALL town , word spreads fast . read more

The only positive about this restaurant is the view. Go for a drink if you must but don't consider eating here. We started by trying to order wine. For a California restaurant it has an abysmal wine list.We ordered a bottle of white wine for $55.00. Our waitress came back and said they were out of it but offered a bottle of a similar variety. No mention was made of the price. So we asked and the second bottle was $115.00. So we tried to order yet another bottle and this time the waitress brought an adjusted wine list with most bottles crossed out. We decided to have beer. Not much choice here either. We moved on to food. One friends was amazed to learn on a Friday night early that they were out of chicken. Really? The market is a block away. No one is ever out of chicken. It wasn't a special or anything it was just chicken. Appetizers ordered were cold when they arrived. Another friend had her appetizer and main meal arrive at the same time, and the veggie dinner was just plain awful. Not good in anyway. read more

Our first visit was April 6 and was generally positive with some improvement suggestions. The menu is better than the previous restaurant (Sandbar) at the same location and is reasonably priced with generous portions. The crab dim sum is a must-do and service was prompt and competent. Otherwise, the bread we ordered was too hard (overbaked) and didn't have much of a taste, plus it cost $4 for a small half-loaf. Most restaurants offer bread as complimentary, so if you have to pay it really should be great. While the entrees were excellent and generous, the cod was swimming in an ocean of rice that filled the entire plate along with a huge piece of bok-choy, most of which my wife couldn't finish. My lamb shank was also excellent although it was floating in a full plate of mashed potatoes so it was impossible to take a bite without the potatoes. There were also 4 large brussels sprouts, roasted so that the outside leaves were delicious but the rest was hard as a rock and inedible. We love the entrée mains but couldn't finish most of the accompaniments which is regrettably wasteful. Finally, the chocolate mousse is really excellent and a nice offering. The place is new and we'll go back with hopes they will continue to refine. read more
