This place is quite unscrupulous. I went to get dinner at the restaurant in the same plaza and figured I'd get some jerky for my GF. I walked in and saw 2 friendly ladies (all to disarm you). Being Vietnamese, I would like to support local businesses and figured I'll try them I asked for 0.5lb each for 2 types of jerky. And some plums (I asked for just a small cup). While they were cashing out, one lady distracted me while the other one just charged me for 1lb for each types. I got home and checked the receipt and it was like 2.5x what I expected to pay and realized what they did. They also gave me a full 1lb of plums when I asked for like a cup which prob would be 2-3oz. In case you were wondering, I spoke with them in Vietnamese so there was no language issue. These ladies and the owner are quite unscrupulous. To other reviewers, call your credit card company and dispute the charges and have your credit card reverse these charges. read more

I was going to say something but you know I was wandering around the festival and having fun with my friends so I just paid and left. But WTF was that!?? This is my 2nd time here, and as I was wandering around the festival, I decided to give them a second chance, but I always end up purchasing more than intended because they Intentionally put more than you asked for. This is a specialty store that you kind of know what you want and what's going on to come in. But after the first time, you will never hesitate to go in again. There are ladies that will help you buy whatever you'd like, there are different kinds of beef jerky's, dried fruit, candies in large jars and you buy them by the pound. Each thing is cost dependent on what it is. Be aware because the ladies will always try to oversell you on what you asked for and try to sell you more things than you initially anticipate. But, what do you expect if they're trying to make a business. They sometimes can get pushy, so just know that going in. A lady came and "helped" me. she sold me on the French-style jerky that was pretty good. Of course, it was one of the most expensive jerkies they had. I asked for 4 pieces and she tried to get me some of THE LARGEST pieces. When I looked at them, I asked for less. She was not pleased. When we first walked in the ladies were speaking Chinese. Then all of a sudden spoke Vietnamese. It's like how did they know we were Viet and Chinese. Im sure they were saying lets see if we can sell a lot to these ppl lol. Anyways, if you're not carful you can easily be up sold here! First, thanks for all the yelpers who warned me about how the reps "swarm" to you and try to get you to "try and buy." I knew my budget going in and knew exactly what I wanted. Other than being a little pushy with the goods (think street hawkers), they're pretty friendly about making a buck. I got the regular jerky, the spicy jerky, spicy squid, and green tea. I have to say it's still the best beef jerky around and it keeps pretty well too. Asian people also love them as gifts. The green tea has "Cam Thao" in it, which makes it very calming and sweet. If you brew the tea thick, it can also be made into a jello (but I like the tea more). If you buy 5 lbs (~100$) they give you a free 1/2 pound. Also, they gave me an my friends the obligatory free tea and a cup of the jello. read more

I came in here the other day to satisfy my hankering for beef jerky. SUCH. AMAZING. CUSTOMER SERVICE. Right when I walked in, the two women greeted me and immediately offered me tea. They never badgered me into getting more jerky than I needed and always offered copious samples. When I told them that I didn't feel like paying for $16 worth of dried meat, they were totally okay with that and took out a few pieces. They made small talk with me and were super nice. Also, they had a 10% off promotion which was nice. They don't even know me, but they were complimenting my personlity and my nails (thanks Naturally Nails and Spa :)!) which was nice..hahah As I was paying, they even gave me a free grass jelly drink thingie. I actually didn't come here and get any beef jerky or snacks. My bro had one quest in mind here: Apparently their Durian Shake (which they make with mung bean) and their macarons are amazing, esp their taro macaron. So sad to say that I'm not a huge fan of either. I did try both, but they were only ok, nothing mind-blowing, in my opinion. They have a host of Viet baked goods - both salty & sweet. Of course, like any Viet place, there are also similar shops to the left, right, top, and across the street from them. I typically frequent this location on my visits to California to purchase food to bring back home. I was in the store around 2pm on Sunday, July 24th. I saw some sesame, chewy type of candy on the shelf and had asked the workers whether or not this had peanuts in it or if it was sesame only. I was told by two workers that it was sesame only and that it DID NOT contain peanuts. By looking at the item, you cannot tell that it contain peanuts. Also I do speak Vietnamese so communication was not an issue. I brought it home and my child who is allergic to peanuts took a small bite and immediately had a reaction. Thank god, he is okay! A word of caution, some of their foods do not have labels for ingredients and at this point do not trust the word of mouth as to what ingredients are in the item intended for purchase. I called the store to let them know what happened and the severity of this and all I got was "oh sorry, okay?". Peanut/Nut allergies is serious and should be taken that way! I wouldn't have posted a review but the response I received when I notified them is beyond words. Vua Kho Bo sells dried goods that are not fresh. DO NOT GO THERE. The samples they let you try are fresh, however when I opened up my dried fruits/prunes at home, they were STALE! They try to cover the stale taste by sprinkling so much spicy powder onto my dried fruits. I love asian beef jerky and squid jerky, and I thought this place was nice since like the other reviewers. I was offered tea as soon as I walked and brought around the store to try out all the different samples. However when I started picking what I wanted, telling the ladies "1 pound of this, 1 pound of that". I noticed they were trying very hard to divert my attention by offering more samples or new offerings. As soon as I took the sample, the lady filling my bag would stuff more into it, until it was bursting at the seems. When it came time to pay, one lady would group all the like prices together, another would seal and then they would weigh. I budgeted 100-150 for the jerky since some of my friends asked me to pick it up for them. Well when they finished totaling it all up, the registered showed $450. My jaw dropped! I did a double take and asked them what's going on with that. They said they even cut me a discount. When I had them ring it up again, I told them "I asked for a pound, why is that bag showing 2.9 pounds?" Other bags were all 3-4 times the weight that I asked for. I told them I wasn't paying for it and they need to get my order right. The lady said they'll have to open the bag and reseal new bags and it'll be a waste. I told them "thank you, but I'n not buying it" and walked out. After buying the stuff, mom walked away to get a seat and noticed that not everything inside was fresh or good. Bad texture, taste, and smell. I stopped going to VuaKhoBo inside PhuocLocTho Mall for years already because of the employees working there. They always tried to "force" people buying more and more. My boyfriend just want to buy like 2 lbs, but they "decided themselves" and stuffed like 5 lbs and brought to the check out table. I had to personally stated to them once more time that we only needed 2 lbs, and there was no way we wanted to get more. We got a small amount for various kind, so we did not want to get a whole bunch of one kind. I was really upset with that sale lady. She never listened to customer's needs, she only wanted to sale as much as possible. I am not sure if they get commission for every sale or not, but that's how they always try to add up to the amount we needed. SCAM ALERT!!! I rarely write reviews, but it happened to me 4 times (could be more but I didn't pay attention back then-they kept talking or giving out drink, samples when I was at the cash register). 1 person in this store is cheating at the cash register. The first 2 times I didn't say it anything because I thought it's just a few bucks, and they were so nice. But the 3rd and 4th times??? it's straight stealing. There is a old lady, short hair, been working there for a long time (she's from Soc Trang), who does the weighting and price entering into the cash register; if you don't look, she'll round up 2-4 dollars per entry, eg: if it's 38.2, she'd read aloud 42 and then punch in 42. When I look, she put the cheap items and expensive items together and weighed them with the price of the expensive one. I bet that she's the one who does the book keeping and inventory for the store, because she can then pocket the extra. I was trained to pick up loop holes in accounting bookkeeping so that employers can't cheat.
