Our water heater went out on a Friday evening. The plumber who installed it was not open on weekends, so we texted Victor on Saturday morning. I've worked with VRG Plumbing on three occasions: once to clear out a blocked sewer pipe, once to inspect my house for a mystery leak, and once to replace a hot water heater. All three times my expectations were exceeded. The first two times I worked with Victor Sr. But for the water heater I worked with Victor Jr. and Walter. Senior is super-nice and incredibly knowledgeable, but Jr. and Walter really blew me away when they replaced my old hot water heater this past Friday. We didn't know it but we were way out of code in our mid-century home. So they not only replaced the hot water heater, they made major improvements. They anchored and braced it properly, installed the correct pressure valve and routed it to an outside hose bib, and installed a drain pan where I can place a leak monitor. They basically brought us into the 21st century and their pricing was very fair. They're a small, family operation, so you have to have patience and flexibly when working with them. If an emergency comes up, you might be rescheduled. But guess what--when you have an emergency, they will be there for you. Regardless, your patience will be richly rewarded with best-in-class plumbing at prices you can feel good about. I love that they are a family operation and not some big company that bills at big prices and sends out rando dudes with cheap parts and cheap brands that won't last. And that reminds me--I'm impressed with the quality of the parts and brands VRG Plumbing uses. They don't cut corners. You get great value in what you're paying for--for both parts AND labor. I had a major clog in my kitchen drain and drano didn't work. VRG responded quickly and scheduled a next day appointment. Victor was 40 minutes late, so had to send somebody to finish the job the following day, but they did a very thorough job by replacing the pipes l, drain, and snaking. Victor also informed me that I was missing a P-trap and he explained the importance of a P trap. I appreciate his thoughtfulness. His son did not wear a mask in my house, but I did not set the boundary of asking for him to wear the mask, so I do take some responsibility. Next time I will ask. Sure enough, I had good news and bad news: the overall plumbing was not failing, but the toilet itself had a problem, and I would be visiting my friendly neighbors. Since I have an old corner toilet, I feared that it would be very difficult to replace. Victor advised me that he would make some calls and see if he could locate one. He also gave me details of his schedule with a commitment to return the following afternoon. I did research, and could not find a toilet. However, he texted me in the morning that he had located one. I failed an exterior house inspection by the town of Danville who are sticklers for safety and needed help urgently before my permit expired. Victor came out and replaced the seismic gas emergency shut off valve the same day I called. Ironically enough my shower valve snapped recently so I called him out again. He returned the next day and replaced the cartridge and I'm up and running again. His attention to detail is excellent.
