The address for this "bike shop" takes you to a residential area. Not a real bike shop. Wasted my time getting there for nothin.

After seeing the need for a community bike shop in New Haven, Feiner used the last $600 in his bank account to open his own shop. It originally opened in a cramped old Wooster Square factory space at 433 Chapel Street. For his new shop, Feiner chose the name "The Devil's Gear" as a reference to the 1988 Paris-Nice stage race. The French press said that Irish cyclist Sean Kelly was riding "the devil's gear". In addition to selling bicycles, the shop also hosts bike tours, maintenance clinics and weekly training rides. The shop has made a number of moves over the years: first to 151 Orange Street, then down the street to 137 Orange, and finally to their current location at 845 Chapel Street. In 2018, longtime employees John Brehon and Greg Ledovsky came on board as co-owners of the shop. Feiner later stepped down due to medical reasons, but Brehon and Ledovsky continue to build on the foundation and legacy that he left behind. In 2021, Brehon and Ledovsky decided to start selling skateboards at the shop too. Local skateboarder J. Joseph came on board to handle the skateboard department. I've been doing business with the Devil's Gear for well over 10 years. When I first became interested in cycling, I went there to get all of my cycling accessories and helpful tips. I still ride a 2013 Jamis Satellite Sport road bike in a beautiful Tiger's Eye finish which I bought from the shop. I take it back to the shop every year for my annual tune-up. In addition to all of their great products and services, The Devil's Gear does a lot for the local cycling community. They have provided all of the technical support for Smilow Cancer Hospital's Closer to Free Ride for several years. I'm about to start training for my seventh consecutive CTF Ride. Whether you've been cycling for several years or you're just looking to get into cycling, you should definitely head down to The Devil's Gear!

This store? Is awful. From the inept and inattentive help to the limited products available, this…read morestore should be avoided if you are serious about any type of sport. If you just want to look like you're active, then by all means snatch up the latest Nike sneakers, North Face gear and pro sports merchandise but if you actually participate in a sport, the selection is lacking. I wanted to look at a Garmin for timing instead of using my iPhone on a run. I stood at the counter for 5 minutes before walking away. Neither of the sales girls would break from their conversation about their weekend plans to assist me. Very poor customer service. I needed a hydration belt and a knee strap for my half marathon. No one in that store had a clue as to what I was talking about. I found a limited selection of hydration and fuel belts in the running shoe department. The guy manning the shoe department was a little lost as to what exactly I meant when I questioned him about the hydration belt being easy to use and withstanding a 13 mile run. Ok fine. I was then directed across the store for a knee strap which was "somewhere around that basketball hoop." It wasn't; it was way over by the softball and baseball gear, but whatever. The selection was poor. No athletic tape, very random sizes and almost all of the knee products were out or in sizes of XL-XXL. Very disappointing. And finally, when I went to check out, I was accused of shoplifting GU energy gels because I picked two up, put one back and carried the other to the register. The idiotic checkout girl with an overly annoying lisp asked where the other GU was. When I told her it was back on the shelf, she called for her manager who called security to look at my purse. Really? All that for $1.79 of energy gel which was NO WHERE in my purse? Never again. To be treated poorly in a store with poor customer service, inept help and products that are never in stock, I'll pass. I'll make the trips to Fleet Feet in West Hartford or Woodbridge Running Company for my running needs and where I won't be accused of shoplifting.

Prices are right where they should be, especially considering it is in a mall right off of the highway. Employees try to sneak in the "rewards card speech", but it is a credit card so unless you shop there frequently say no thank you. $300 for each reward last time I checked. It is always clean in there and I always find what I am looking for. Everything is very organized. Parking is great. There is a dedicated ramp right outside the building. This place is a must for any fitness nut or camper who lives in the area.
