4 stars for the holiday lounge, but 3 stars otherwise…read more The 1927 Lounge is located just off to the side of the casino in the Ocean Resort and offers a mix of slop machine noise/excitement, paired against a quiet corner nook of coziness. The bar occasionally offers live music, but my favorite time to visit is during the holidays, when they turn it into a festive Christmas spot with holiday beverages. There are fun decorations, strands of lights, Home Alone 2 playing on the televisions, and much more to really get you in the holiday spirit. I most recently tried the Pomegranate Margarita on their seasonal menu and thought it was excellent; it was not too sweet or too weak. I should note that there are rarely servers in the lounge area, so you typically need to go up to the bar to place an order, which can disrupt the flow of fun you might be having. Overall, I think the 1927 Lounge is decent on a normal day, but much better when they have a themed takeover happening.

It's is an unlike anything you will experience at any other Casino in Atlantic City. The DJ is incredible and plays music for everyone's taste. The bartenders are fun, full of personality and make cocktails quickly. And then you have the speakeasy. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but as soon as I walked in I noticed a male dancer up in the cage, followed by about 8 women in costume. The choreography was sexy yet very tasteful. They have acts that incorporate thrilling tricks that keep everyone on their toes. I could not help but take videos so I could show all of my friends and family back at home just how incredible it actually is. You will not be disappointed!

I was fortunate to be able to go right at 2PM on a Thursday and it was not at all busy or crowded. The buffet-style food is designed to appeal to a large audience. For a small lounge, the variety of food to choose from is surprisingly vast. There are hot and cold items available, from simple soup and sandwiches to gourmet meats and pastas. Consistently, there is a salad bar. Also, a huge variety of desserts to finish off your meal. The lounge also touts two bars inside. My drinks have always been made right by friendly mixologists. In addition, staff are diligent about keeping the tables clean. The Laurel Lounge is a member perk that is reasonably priced; I look forward to going again.

The hostess and employees are all friendly, you will get a reserved sign when you enter so you can hold your table while you go grab your food. They have a salad bar, soups, cold salads, hot food, desserts, pizza, etc. A little of everything. The day we were there they had delicious prime rib. So good. They even had a great salmon. Sides and such are just meh, but you are getting it for a super reasonable price. Desserts were yummy. The ice cream machine was broken. There's a full bar, self serve soft drinks/tea/coffee. It's worth it if you are hungry and don't mind the people. Didn't take pics - oops. We did go back the next day for their breakfast but the line was super long and it just is t worth waiting for. They also have a Seven Star level that jumps the line so even if it doesn't look long, it can be as those people walk up.

There was a live pianist taking requests, and he was good. Competent, even charming, although his frequent reminders that songs will be played in order of greatest tip to least made us think his salary was entirely gratuity based. He played what people wanted to hear across a wide spread of genres, which is a kind of small miracle. Still, it felt like a watered down substitute for something that once had a pulse. The ghost in the room was Gypsy Bar, which used to offer actual live music on weekends. Closing it was, in my opinion, a small but meaningful cultural error. Now, between B Bar, Long Bar, and this place, the Borgata has achieved a kind of perfectly acceptable sameness. Three bars, none of them offensive, none of them memorable. My wife ordered her usual gin and tonic, a drink that asks for very little and is satisfied when it receives it. I went with a Sazerac, motivated by the presence of absinthe, which I had somehow avoided my entire life. It turns out absinthe does not cause hallucinations, unless you count the fleeting belief that you are having a more interesting drink than everyone else. Still, it was well made and nicely presented, as was hers. Service was slow, which felt odd given that the bar was not especially crowded. Not neglectful, just unhurried in a way that made you aware of time passing. Prices were what one expects in a casino hotel lobby. High enough to remind you where you are. In the end, it is fine. Perfectly fine. You'll probably get a pretty good drink, you might hear a pleasant song, and except for your wallet, you'll leave no worse off than when you arrived. But you may also find yourself remembering something better that used to exist in the same building, and wondering why it doesn't anymore. Four stars, though at least half of one of them is doing a fair amount of emotional labor.
