I absolutely LOVE this salon! I've been going to AKC for all my hair needs (haircuts, highlights,…read moreand blowouts) for the past two years and have always been so happy with how my hair looks at the end of an appointment! I have very naturally dark brown South Asian hair that can be very hard to get naturally looking highlights without looking orange. I've gone to other salons where I've been disappointed with streaky highlights that don't blend with my hair. That is definitely not the case here. Maria at AKC works absolute MAGIC! I went last weekend and Maria spent a few hours highlighting my hair. At the end of a very long appointment, I was stunned at how gorgeous my hair looked. I've gotten compliments all week from coworkers to random strangers. All of the stylists here are so incredibly talented and you can see their work on their individual Instagram pages. I've had several different stylists here at the salon work on my hair and each one has been so kind and attentive to what I was looking for. Location - The salon is located in downtown Naugatuck where there is plenty of street parking. Price - The prices are more than reasonable. During the holidays they have special deals on gift cards that you can use for future services.

I was shocked at the pricing here -- $165 for a simple grey touch-up! Any other salon I have been charges roughly 90 dollars for the same service. For a basic color service, this is far above what's typical in our area. The work was ok, but the value for the money just isn't there, and I can't justify returning at these prices. This was actually my second visit. My first experience, just three weeks earlier, was very disappointing. I brought in a picture for reference, and the result looked nothing like it. I disliked it so much that I went home and contacted the salon to have it corrected. The original cost for the root touch-up plus highlights was $275. When I came back an hour later for the correction, the owner told me she had to charge me because I didn't say anything before leaving. I hadn't wanted to insult the hairdresser because she was sweet so I kept quiet at the time, but after going home, I felt strongly that I shouldn't have to pay $275 for something I didn't ask for. The owner then charged me another $67 to tone down the brightness, bringing the total for that day to over $350. I did not leave a tip for the second trip that day because I was not happy with the situation. Regrettably, I decided to give the salon another try, but had I known a root touch up would cost 165, I would never have given them another chance. Never again will I make the same mistake. And as a first time client, the owner charged me because I didn't speak up prior to leaving. I can't believe the owner treated a new client this way. 552 dollars in one month is insane! NEVER AGAIN!!
