Central Barber Shop - 8/7/23 The barber doing his barber thing!

Central Barber Shop is located at 88 Center Street next to the bank, across from the walls of the…read morecemetery and less than 2 blocks from Colony Road. You have there free parking in front and in the back of the salon which is so convenient when it is snowing or raining. I'm giving you all this data because there are 3 barber shops in this 2-block area and I want you to get to the Best Barber Shop in Wallingford whether you are awake or walking in your sleep. You will have committed a grave error if you enter the wrong salon. There, as in Z's butcher shop in Hartford, where he is afraid to get his own hair cut by his fellow employees, you will not get your hair cut, rather you shall be fleeced like a helpless ewe and regret it for a whole month until your hair grows back and you finally go to Central Barbershop for damage control. Do you know what you really get at Central? You get an European stylish haircut tailored to your preferences. My barber there, who is the owner, immigrated from central Europe. He will start cutting your hair until you tell him, in simple terms, how you wanted cut. I used the same answer I used when I was stationed in Thailand and in Japan: "After I leave your barbershop, i want people to think that my haircut was done two weeks ago!" My barber in Wallingford, CT., responded, "Gotcha!..." Now, do you want to accept my 5-star recommendation along with all the other 5-stars from so many satisfied customers who feel as I do and GO to Central Barbershop, or take Mr. Z.'s envious, trumpian opinion of one barber who doesn't trust his co-workers to give him an acceptable cut, and based on that, you go somewhere else to be fleeced? Remember what Forester Gump used to say, "STUPID as STUPID does! Silverio (SAM) B. {Yelp said that "this review is looking pretty epic! Nice! }

I wanted a haircut for an upcoming trip and wasn't due at my regular salon for another almost four…read moreweeks. I liked that this place allows you to book online, HOWEVER, that's only available during their open hours, so I had to wait until the following morning to see if they even had anything available. No prices are posted anywhere on the site and I didn't notice any when I went inside. I just like to know what to expect. I chose a 1:00pm slot and was taken right away. They had almost every slot available, which was convenient for me. There were a few men in and out getting cuts and I overheard them getting charged $24.95 for their cuts, so I figured I'd get charged something similar, possibly a little more. The price was $39.95, which I thought was a little expensive, considering it was only a wash (just shampoo, no conditioner) and cut (no product). No blow-dry. go to a nice salon, and the whole works is just slightly more than this. The staff was okay. Two people. The woman who cut my hair wasn't really friendly. It's not really a requirement, but I don't like to feel like I'm "bothering" someone at their job? Did I interrupt your break? I personally wouldn't return. This was an emergency where I needed a cut that specific day, and this was my only option as far as salons with openings that day. I learned my lesson and will plan ahead!

I can't even say you get what you pay for because it was $59 before tip, which is more than I pay at an actual blowout bar I normally go to. I still tipped $10 even though I wasn't happy with it. I had a female start my wash and then I got passed off to David, who I showed a photo of a blowout to and just said I wanted volume, and he said "yes of course we can do that." He didn't even do the front of my hair so I left with straight wet strands in the front. He kept dropping stuff and burning my scalp with the blow dryer. I didn't say anything at the time because they had customers after me and I was in a time crunch. When I looked at it at home, my mom asked what I even got done. My hair looked no different than when I air dry it. I used my Shark blow dryer to fix it myself after and even that came out better.

No appointment, I just happened to be in the area. Dino and Cat were very welcoming when I walked in, they told me to help myself to a beverage up front. They also have one of those mini NES systems hooked up, so that was a nice time killer while the family in front of me finished up. Very pleased with the haircut and I felt a little pampered by the attention to detail, aftershave, and general welcoming atmosphere. And it was only $15, definitely can't beat that! I live in Hamden but I will probably make the trip for this place because it was so good. Definitely skip the chain haircutter and give this place a shot if you're in the area.

What you will get is a GREAT haircut at a low price from a GREAT barber. It's easy to get an appointment or you can just walk in. John and Dino are caring, charming young men who know how to cut hair. They will accommodate any style. I travel from my home in upstate New York to Connecticut on a regular basis and I'm thrilled to have discovered Cornerstone. I always enjoy the conversation too, but bring your own coffee.
