My friends and I spent a weekend in Joshua Tree for June K.'s 30th birthday. We rented a beautiful house and spent almost all of our time there, relaxing and partying. Instead of going out to eat, we took turns cooking, and hit the Vons for a good chunk of our groceries. It kind of felt like we were in a commune for a couple of days--we even wore matching T-shirts the whole weekend. Matt B. and I got most of our contributions at this Vons, which was right down the hill from where we were staying. It was a nice grocery store, more or less on par with other Vons stores. (To be honest, I'm only reviewing it because I spent a whole weekend out of town and need a few Yelp reviews to show for it--I am sick, somebody help me, please.) It was well stocked, and we were able to get everything on our list with relative ease. We had trouble finding hot dogs at one point, and a helpful lady went out of her way to locate them for us. Prices weren't always great, but we were able to avoid getting ripped off. I made a huge vat of tomato sauce and penne the first night, and formed hamburger patties to grill the second. It was probably the most ambitious cooking I've done in a long time. Everything turned out well enough, so no complaints about the ingredients. If you need groceries in Joshua Tree, this Vons should work as a one-stop shop. read more

The meat department is the best in the area but the produce department needs a make over. The apple, peach, melon was all just bad on the inside. I would rather have good few choices then lots of rotten "fresh" fruit. The cashiers are the best btw. read more

They make the customer experience terrible. I try to check out with 2 items and the cashier isn't being trained but sure acts like she needs more. Everyone behind me bails on this line while she's attempting to stumble through a refund. I'm not offered my place in line elsewhere. I go to the manager and am rudely brushed off. I love this store. Everything's is wonderful including the products they sell. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. However... and I can't stress this enough.... I don't know what the checkers and baggers are thinking. They absolutely go out of their way to mix up the order on the belt... for example, putting boxed food and bottles of Gatorade on top of heirloom tomatoes and soft produce. I say that they do this on purpose because they don't take the order as it comes down the belt and purposefully reach over like items to pack the bags. I ask for cold items to be put in one bag and produce in another and big drink items in a different bag, and without fail, they have it all jumbled up in a very careless manor. Ordered a sandwich and the guy making the sandwich was the worst sandwich maker in the entire world! I honestly think a 5 year old could've done a better job. This guy had no clue how to make any of the sandwiches. He literally didn't know what pepper jack cheese, pepperoncini , or ficashia bread were. This man made our sandwiches with no love at all! And on top of that, it took it him over 30 minutes to make a tuna sandwich and a chicken bacon avocado. I could go on about how bad this man was, but I'm getting irritated thinking about it. I am so over this store. At least 12 times they have stocked out of date rotten meat and sold it to me in the past several months. I am beyond disgusted. No returns during covid 19. Seems like a giant scam. I have wasted hundreds of dollars and have had meal plans ruined due to their rotten food. Apples are also always rotten inside. Pathetic. read more

Truly giant Vons with anything you could possibly need. I really didn't take advantage of everything they had to offer, and focused mainly on produce (serviceable) and lunch fixings (prepared and not). I was disappointed with their pre-made salad selection, and am not sure if that's just the way it is here or because it was over a holiday week, but the pickings were slim. That being said, the checkout folks were really nice (like seriously nice) and I was able to use my Safeway card, so it was all good. The parking lot was *enormous* and easy to access. read more

So in L.A. (which sadly is my basis for comparison for EVERYTHING, since it was the center of my world for like 25 years), Vons is a really good store. Lots of selection, decent prices. In Yucca Valley, Vons is just overpriced and ridiculous. Their "meat counter" is one, 4 foot wide display case. Everything else is frozen, and the only thing in thing in the display case is seafood. The veggie selection is pitiful. I think they are trying to corner the market on dried and shelf foods. Which they are OK at. The Stater Bros in the Walmart complex has a better selection of everything. The fact that the parking lot is never full is your sign to avoid this place. They only thing they are better stocked on than Staters is booze. Which is the only stuff I get. Unless there is a sale on lean cuisine or something. Basically, I avoid this place. Staters has more selection, better quality, and is significantly cheaper. read more

Kellyn in the fish department is fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and helped me find fresh (not frozen) wild caught fish from their selection. He also asked if I was going straight home and offered to put some ice around it when I told him I had a few stops to make on the way home. What a treat to experience really good customer service! I would have reviewed him on the Von's site but you can't unless you want to enter into a sweepstakes on their survey site. Thanks Kellyn! My fiancé and I camp occasionally in Joshua Tree and usually stop here. Clean store and super quick service! Today, we ordered a deli sandwich and Kristi helped us, and was SO sweet. We also got a piece of fresh salmon, and I can't remember her name, but the lady with glasses was really great as well. She even seasoned our piece of fish! Hope the store manager recognizes these ladies along with the other employees! Great service all around! read more

This is a great grocery store. Their donuts are the absolute best. From fresh baked breads to meats and seafood, this is one of my favorite stores. Prices are low with a free vons club membership and well worth the time to fill it out. Fresh produce, great variety of organic produce as well as grassfed beef and wild caught varieties of seafood. Great customer service, employees who are eager to give you a great shopping experience and are knowledgeable about their departments. This review is so overdue that I have shamefully forgotten the names of all of the amazing staff members who helped me! About 3-4 months ago, I ordered a MASSIVE cake for a friend whose mother had just beaten cancer. I called this in day-of, and asked for a large picture of the two of them to be printed on a cake that was pretty much the size of my car. The team worked TIRELESSLY to make this order happen in a short time frame, and even helped me carry it out to my car. I like this store. I had to go in and get some necessary girl items but then also picked up some food for our trip into JTree Natl Park. Yay for the bakery! We got two jalapeno cheddar bagels for a dollar. A dollar! And, what do you know, the donuts were on sale, too! Yes to a maple bar and a apple fritter. It was a huge apple fritter, btw. Vons has the largest organic and non-GMO food selection of any of the major grocery stores in the area. Sue's Health Foods sells organic, but being small, they don't have the same selection as Vons. Vons also has super friendly and helpful staff, so that's a plus. I'd give them a 5 star, but they are often out of many of their organic items, likely because the items are popular. I would like to see them expand their selection of organic meats and also dairy. For instance, organic bone-in and skin on chicken thighs would be great to have. More organic dairy items, especially cheeses like Parmesan would be great. Hopefully they will work on improving their inventory, and continue to offer more organic food items. Horrile personnel, high prices, stale bakery items, bageer put bananas at bottom of bag. I filled von 800 survey. Store asst mgr.called and defended store. Said old bagels were removed daily. Ours were rock hard. Asst. Mgr asked why they should fire bagger. I explained a 10/year old child would not put bananas at bottom of bag. Advertised specials were not on shelf. Ast. mgr. Said it was nog their fault. My elderly mother took a couple bags to rebag (we spent $80). Bagger said we couldnt have them. Does state of Calif. Audit.? The employees are wonderful, there's only a select few that I've had issues with and they're manly the older women like Debbie who are just completely rude. However, the rest of the staff is fantastic and do everything they can to help. My only issue with this store is the crack head customers who can't tell a one way street from their asshole. 90% of the customers are entitled and old and the only way they can conviene themselves that their life has meaning is to go to a grocery store and raise hell. Many of them can't read to save their life thus they have issues with the Just 4 U app and then blame the checker for their own idiocy. Let me first start with this...The cashiers have always been extremely pleasant so I have no complaints at all about them (the 1 star is solely based on the Deli). I do, however, agree with the other reviews in regard to the length of the lines as well as the fact that the "Express" lane is in no way enforced. Anyway, what prompted me to write a review, which I've been meaning to do for awhile now, is the DELI DEPARTMENT, it is HORRENDOUS both in customer service and consistency in the product you receive, also, you'll be fortunate if they have all of the ingredients required to make one of their Signature Sandwiches (because they aren't a grocery store and can't just go get the ingredient off the shelf?). I don't know how many times I've asked if I could order a particular sandwich to be told "No, we don't have (insert MAIN ingredient)". At this point, I can only blame myself for continuing to give it "one more try". The majority of the time the individual making your sandwich has an attitude consistent with someone who is extremely irritated that you're requesting that they do their job. I've had employees sigh, throw (literally. I wish I was exaggerating) my sandwich together, and complain when you request an ingredient (like cheese) that they would have to go slice themselves. Out of the dozen or more times I've gone to the Deli for a sandwich I have only encountered 2 employees that were not extremely hostile, one was a younger boy who I've never seen again so I assume he was too happy to work in that department, and the younger girl who made my sandwich yesterday - she was pleasant but clearly new and extremely slow. So slow, in fact, that after receiving my sandwich (lets call it 15 minutes later to be generous) I went and purchased all of the ingredients required to make the Turkey, Bacon, Avocado sandwich at home so I don't ever have to go back to that deli again. I fear that one more trip to that deli may cause a stroke at this point... read more

Their deli is a disaster. Went in today for a sandwich, and some lady named Dorothy G. was extremely rude. She wouldn't talk to us, and we finally got to order she gave us bread that was falling apart, and when i asked for new bread I got nothing but attitude. She literally threw our sandwiches together (violently, seriously.) Then threw them on the counter with a harsh "There!" We were super polite to her, so I don't know what her problem was. I try only to review big chains when a location is "special" and this Vons is the worst I've ever been to. Almost every time I am there, I am only picking up a few items. When I go the "express" line there is inevitably someone in front of me with about 50 items and they are usually paying with food stamps which seems to require several extra steps. Why the hell is anyone in a lane intended for people with fewer than 15 items with a cart overflowing with crap. I've never heard the cashiers say a word about it either. Then again, several of them seem like the just escaped from Angel View. I've waited over 20 minutes in line on more than one occasion thanks to this practice of allowing or encouraging--I don't know which-- morons with a ton of shit in the express lane. read more

Of all the grocery stores and Super Wall-of-China mart, Vons has the largest and best selection of meat free, vegan, and vegetarian items. They carry more then the health food stores here in town. So for me, a compassionate eater, I shop here. I do not like that a person, even I , am encouraged to get into an express lane with far too many items. It is the principle and I do not want people who are in a hurry getting angry at me because the employee had to pull me into the line. I would rather wait. Go straighten up some magazines or shelves. I really like Vons. The workers there are all very nice, I always get good veggies, whenever I get berries they are always very flavorful. The meat is fresh with a good flavor when cooked up. I love the sandwiches and the deli counter people are very nice. They have the best bakery in town the bran muffins are so good! It is a bit more expensive but its worth it because I know I'm always going to get high quality I trust their store brand it usually ends up being better then the national brand. If you watch the sales you can get some really great deals. read more

I am a VERY visual person, if something doesn't look how it's supposed to or better, then I normally don't care for it. It's not something I even think about, it's just how my brain works. SO, when I come to VONS, I'm in a wonderland, the place is neat, organized, pretty, cold (like grocery stores should be!), the people are nice, and I just love it here. I enjoy this store. I drive from Twentynine Palms to Yucca Valley to shop at this location. The meat department and the bakery is the BEST! Always the best customer service and products. Tired of thaw and serve bakery at Stators and food for less. Always courteous clerks at the registers. The meat manager always goes out of his way to be helpful! Great seafood section. Never an attitude at the register. Living in the basin our choices are limited. I'm very thankful Vons's is here! The store manager is very nice as well! read more

Really? Could a grocery store possibly be any worse than this one? Main complaint, constantly, is long check out lines with usually just one or two registers open! Followed closely by their abysmally low stock levels of fast moving items. Yes they have an app to save money with and to leave feedback with, total waste of time!
