Super friendly and incredible staff. Seriously. I had to wonder whether we were in California because I'm unaccustomed to that much cheery helpfulness. The store was stocked up with just about everything we needed (including a certain someone's emergency Starbucks drink). We saved tons because we were with a Vons Club Card holder. If you don't have a card, find someone with one and shop with them. We only had one semi-strange incident in our many visits here. We couldn't tell if a lady out front was talking to us or to herself. Turned out she was just collecting shopping carts. read more

If you don't mind waiting forever, this is your place. Very poor management, seems like every time I go to this store the lines at checkout are extremely long, sometimes going up the aisles. Seems to me they need to have more people able to Work the checkout stands. There's enough checkout stands but not enough people to man them when needed, which seems to be all the time. read more

Very very disappointing experience, Sunday October 15th, 2017. 8:15 a.m. I came into the store with my pajamas craving some yogurts, bannanas and snacks for my kids. I went to register, and Amber, my cashier, was AWESOME! Very nice costumer service. Big smile. She was very sweet. My horrible experience was about to start. I went to Starbucks inside Vons and asked for two spoons for my kids breakfast and I wasn't even finish with my sentences when the Starbucks attendant says, "sorry they are for customers only!" She didn't even let me finish my sentance! I was gonna order hot chocolate for my kids and I. Then she rudly says "go ask deli!!!" I go to the deli department and ask and she says "I dunno!!!" as she walked away. I got really upset and went back to Amber and told her of these experiences. She then told me "Let me go grab some spoons for you." But I was already upset and disappointed that I decided to return the items and take my kids to Subway.... Thank you Amber for your amazing service. Too bad not all Vons employees are like her. Never coming back to this Vons again. They must have (FINALLY) listened to the multiple complaints concerning the pan-handling/loitering/seedy-element & vibe customers were experiencing. Dragonchuck security was hired. The guards patrol the Plaza on a full-time basis ensuring that loitering is kept to a minimum and keeping the pan-handlers to the entrances/exits of the parking lot. I no longer get hit up for money! This is such an improvement compared to 6 months ago. I'm willing to give this location another chance now. read more

The one star is for getting most of my order right. I subtracted four stars for the almost nonexistent customer service and the unavailability of many of the standard grocery items I wanted. I placed a delivery order using the VONS app, accepting that many of the items I wanted were out of stock (e.g. coffee pods and ready-made margaritas). I viewed the receipt in my email box as I waited for the order to arrive, and it was obvious they got the seafood order wrong (because it was 1/3 the price it should have been). Since I was planning to make that for dinner, this was key, so I called the number on the the receipt, waited forever, and when I finally got a live person she was rushed, didn't listen, cut me off, said she was transferring me to Door Dash, and was gone in a flash. I didn't even place the order through Door Dash and she didn't talk to me long enough to find that out. Completely rude. read more

Came in today with the hope that they stopped sucking and got new, real management. No luck! No baggers to help. Manager's reaction to any request for help is shrugged shoulders and empty response. The workers at the service deli are extremely rude. (The place where they make you sandwiches/rotisserie chicken) I asked an older woman associate behind the counter yesterday if they were going to have any more rotisserie chickens any time soon because they were out on the shelf and she just pointed to the back and made her eyes big then continued her conversation with another employee. I waited and asked what that meant and she just yelled hold on. Another associate stepped in and helped me. I've only been to this service deli twice and this is the second time I've had terrible service here. The first time it took the male associate 25 minutes to make 3 sandwiches. 2 for the guy in front of me, 1 for me. Long story, but it was the type of interaction where he had to look what was on a turkey, bacon avocado. The lines checking out are always long and they don't offer self check out. read more

This Vons has a really nasty habit of putting those big yellow sales tags in front of items that are not on sale. Just this morning I grabbed a bottle of Bolthouse Farms juice marked for $3.99. I was surprised when I returned home to see that I paid $6.49. I assume that another type of juice of the same brand was meant to be at that price, but the Green Goodness was the ONLY one with the special tag in front of it and the juice was fully stocked, so it had clearly been attended to. I had a similar problem with a pack of chicken last week, but I noticed as I was ringing up because it was my only purchase. When I questioned it, a price checker from the meat department told me that I had the wrong chicken. His response when I said I would like to buy the chicken for the sale price was that there wasn't any left and he walked away. read more

This Vons and the staff have grown on me. Maybe they've had some staffing changes or maybe I've just become part of the family- lol. The bakery stole one of the stars, there's a middle-aged lady on staff who can be rude when she's busy and they don't stock all of the baked goods they claim to carry. Pretty decent selection otherwise, although they run out of stuff quickly if it's on sale. The checkers here are quick, efficient, and pretty friendly. The building is ancient and this place needs a remodel soon. It's located really conveniently for my family so unless this place goes downhill, we'll continue to shop here with the rest of the crowd. read more

This is literally the worst grocery store I have ever been to, and I have been to many around the world. It is horribly understaffed to the point that people regularly leave their grocery carts in the aisles the minute they see the monstrous lines that await. The cashiers? Super nice. Can't blame them. I have lived in Vta. for 16 yrs. This Von's has consistently been dogged by the transient culture for longer than I've been here...aggressive begging in the parking lot, at the entry doors, and curbs @ exits. The store has employed security guards (or maybe the businesses together). No change. It's for emergencies only...and NEVER @ dusk or later. This Vons is a joke. Unlike so many reviewers, I'm not bothered by homeless people or panhandlers because I'm not Hobo-phobic, and have zero problem saying 'No' to people. They are seriously understaffed at grocery store 'rush hour', and the lines can get ridiculously long. But that's not even the worst aspect of this store. The prices are super high, the selection is so spotty it makes me think that's what shopping must have been like in 1980s USSR. When they advertise something on sale for a decent price, there's a high probability they will run out the first day it's on discount. Nobody ever offers an apology or a rain check for running out of advertised sale items, nor can they tell you when they may be receiving more. They also just suddenly don't have things- ie: deli made yogurt and fruit parfaits that I grab for lunch a couple days a week are inexplicably missing for like, 3 weeks. I asked the manager directly why this was happening- is there some sort of recall or something? I get a mealy mouthed answer about 'the people' not making enough and something something something.... So, I guess that shows how committed to customer service this place is. My biggest gripe about this place is the absolutely HORRIFIC produce! Expensive produce that looks like shit, and absolutely nothing is local. Even the things that are touted as local aren't local. Why am I buying 'local' strawberries from Watsonville, when there's actually a 100+acre strawberry farm less than a mile away from this store? I guess 'local' to them means anything that is grown in California? I only get produce here when I don't feel like going across town to Sprouts (where you'll pay half for much better produce). We like this store well enough! Better than the Walmart in this town! We have gotten into Ventura several times this year traveling the west coast dog show circuit, twice for shows and the numerous other times stopping at the RV park on west main. Convenient to get to, always very busy, between the beach crowd and RV people, a very fun place to people watch! Always friendly staff when we go in. Deli person was incredible this afternoon. Was short on something we wanted and they subbed in a different variety and said sorry I didn't have all you asked for, and I subbed in something and your not being charged for it. Unexpected for sure. Will be back in Ventura at least once more this year and we will be going back to Von's. read more
