This Vons is not good. I go here sometimes because it is convenient for me, but I usually try to avoid it most of the time. Why is this Vons so terrible? 1. They got rid of the self-checkout. Now there is no other option, but for me to wait in line for 15 minutes in the "express" checkout. This place doesn't have the number of cashiers needed to properly deal with the influx of people. Bring back the self-checkouts! That was so much faster. 2. There are too many weirdos. And I'm not just talking about the crazy homeless panhandlers outside. Those people are terrible too, but my main concern is the gross hippies/homeless that come in without shoes on. These people are unhygienic and need to be told to leave the store. Am I really the only one who cares about this? 3. Like all Vons, the prices are outrageous. There are some okay deals, but the majority of the everyday items are marked up considerably, even for California. Things that I want to complain about, but not necessarily Vons fault: 1. Wow seriously best customer service ever ! I came to buy my step mom a bouquet of roses even tho the flower spot is kind of dead I was still able to find a decent pot of roses I liked the pot more than the actual flowers only because the roses were browning already as I'm checking out Lianne and I started talking about how I felt about the roses being kind of dead and for the price I had already paid she agreed we walked over to the flower department she took out all the dead roses and replaced them with New Ones WHAT ! omg what a great experience Lianne seriously needs a raise ! This Von's is my neighborhood one. Most frequented. They got everything, and it's not too large to navigate. Only issue is it's pretty busy, like all the time. So if you're in a rush, probably don't stop at this one. Maybe try the one in Pierpont. read more

The reason for my 3 stars is because I have shopped there for many years without encountering any problems. Just recently I became unemployed and qualified for WIC. I forgot my WIC card at home but I was hoping there was another way around it if I gave my card information but a total of three ladies did not even attempt it. There was absolutely no line when I was there. I told them Food 4 Less was able to and still, they did not try. Long story short, I left the store and went to Smart and Final across the street and this gentleman was very busy but listened to my problem and sure enough, just like Food 4 Less, it was successful. All he had to do was put in my card number manually. Vons, all I ask for is for you to show a little more care. Just try. It wouldn't have hurt at all. read more

I love when Delaney is working the drive up and go position. I can always expect fast service as well as my order beign accurate. As soon as I pull up I call that number it rings maybe twice and she is on it. Every time I have gone for drive up and she isn't working I get pretty bad service. There have been 2 times I called the number and stores number and NOBODY answered. So ended up going in to flag someone down. That defeats the purpose tho of drive up and go. read more

Spoke with Ashley, Jocelyn in Phoenix AZ, Angelica N Micki at the Ventura Thompson store regarding delivery being late over 50 minutes N not notified right away, My delivery time was 6-8pm received at 8:55pm, also being delivered to incorrect address. Our driver Ronna was very helpful N made sure we got all our packages. But all was resolved including incorrect items being delivered. the selection is good. The beer selection is particularly good for a chain supermarket. My wife likes the bakery selection. Tonight, we had a complete fiasco with the self check out. The machine locked up when the attendant tried to approve our ID for purchasing wine. No idea what happened, but it was a 10 minute process, and she was a little snarky. I want so badly to use the self checkouts at vons, but every time we try, something always goes wrong, and when there is a glitch, the staff always acts like its our fault. I promise we aren't stupid. We just have bad luck with self checkout machines and we get the goofy attendants. read more

This Vons gets the job done if I am pressed for time, too lazy to make the drive to Winco, or my neighbors decide we should do some grilling in 6.2 minutes, but darn are their prices high! Was in not long ago just to pick up some staples like a box of cereal and walked out $52 dollars lighter. The prices at Winco are still cheaper even if you add Vons Club and couponing (which I detest spending any time on). The store is clean and the checkers friendly but my entire philosophy since college is: get what you need at the cheapest price possible or the only thing you'll be eating is raman. read more

Kudos to Vons and their employees for providing a necessary service during the covid-19 outbreak. I came the day after shelter in place was implemented and was surprised that most items on my list were available. Plenty of fresh produce. Beef and pork in the meat dept although no chicken. Obviously no TP. I was mostly impressed that management had taped off 6' spacing for the check out stands and had people lining up the aisles so they could spread apart, and all check stands had hand sanitizer. It got rather busy and they called all dept heads to the front and opened all but a couple of registers so no one was in line for very long. Finally, I found all of the staff to be especially kind and calm in spite of what must be a rather challenging time to be working in such an industry. read more

Vons is taking orders for toilet paper, scheduling 4 hour delivery times then not delivering the product. The do call or email you notifying you of any cancellation. I lost a half of day of work waiting for a delivery that never came. They are still doing this and what's even worse is I've heard from employees that management took those orders for themselves and their families/friends and that is why their inventory log online is thinking they have the product but it's being rerouted with no regard for the wasted time or loss of income of those taking time off work t wait for their orders. read more

Could be an anomaly, but I tried out the delivery service for the first time this week trying to be strict about quarantine for a vulnerable relative. Well, the food never arrived on Saturday. This is an email I sent to Vons - and I have not even had the courtesy of a reply. to vons: Please forward this at least the supervisor level of customer service. I have used Von's delivery service for several years. I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran who rarely leaves my home, so you service had been a wonderful solution for me. I set up delivery of the above-referenced order for Wednesday, 11/22 between 11 and 3 p.m. About 730 that morning, I received a call from someone at Von's that your computers were down, delivery would be 4-5 hours late,the driver would call when he left the store, and you were out of the protein we had ordered for our Thanksgiving dinner - a bone in turkey breast. Whoever called said she would put an 'appropriate substitute' in our order. When the driver arrived, he had 20 lb. FROZEN turkey. I told him to take it back - it would take 2-3 days to deforst the bird, so it was useless to me. I called and waited for an hour to talk to someone. I was told there was nothing that could be done, but I would get a $35 credit on the account. I don't know if I will ever use Von's delivery service again. It was bad enough that you send us a frozen turkey the afternoon before Thanksgiving. But you have a delivery service, but NO ONE was willing to drive a use-able protein to me. I just thought someone should know. I've been spit on in uniform, insulted, and treated pretty poorly as a Vietnam vet - but I could never imagine being treated as poorly as I was by your customer service personnel regarding the above. I ordered groceries that were to have been delivered yesterday between 5-6pm, and they never showed. I called to inquire and put us on hold for over an hour before the hung up. My card was still charged yet no groceries were ever delivered. I called the store directly around 8pm yesterday and they said to call the store at 3am to complain to the people packing the food up for deliveries. Who even advises that to a customer?!?! On $5 Friday Feb 7, despite the advertised 8 pc chicken special, all that was left was fried and a few pieces of 'baked' (actually stewed in lots of liquid) AT DINNERTIME, about 5:30. People at the Deli counter asked for rain checks but one lady hollered out...."We don't give those here, you have to go to the front"...ok, wasted 10 minutes....Then on Saturday, at around 6:30 NO baked or Habenero....and the pans had been carefully washed and put back in the case. This is typical! A few weeks ago I wanted 3 items on my Just for You list. Salmon at the meat counter.....no one was working and I decided to see how long I would have to wait for some service....the kid piling bananas in produce saw me and we made eye contact. I finally asked him if anyone was working.....His response "maybe he's on a break"....then he went back to his bananas....After 5 minutes I had ONE of the three items I wanted but was not going to give them my patronage. I talked to a night manager and explained what happened, and did get an apology.....again, typical. I don't like to have to watch the prices like a hawk but most of the time there is an error on the amount charged. It's hard to figure out the prices on the register tape because instead of the price, they show lots of math shenanigans! I will look at the store "specials" less and less because to save $1 is not worth the hassle. I know prices and see items on sale where you can only buy 2 or 3 and that same item is NORMALLY several $$ less at Winco and you can buy as many as you want I am not a shill for Wiinco but EVERY time I need help finding something, a worker will go out of the way to help me find it. I used the order online and pick up at store option bc it seemed like the most appropriate option with the all the "Corona virus" precautions we should be taking. I live in Camarillo and a 2min drive from my nearest Vons BUT wanted to avoid the people and chaos and possible germs. The site allowed me to order what I needed and gave me a time slot to pick up my items. I ordered Friday and scheduled a Sunday pickup. I park in the designated online order spot and call the phone number on the sign- only to be forwarded to a voice mail box that hadn't been set up yet! I try a few more times and decide to get off and ask inside (inconvenience #1) I walk to the customer service counter and let them know I'm picking up an online order.The woman calls another employee and informs her that an online order customer is up front. A young girl comes with a bag with 2 boxes of spaghetti and says "Someone should have called you to inform you that the rest of your order was not filled" I inform her that "No one called me and I'm just now finding this out!" I ask why wasn't I notified by email or a phone call as I just drove 20minutes to pick up my order? (Inconvenience #2) She had no answer other than I'm not sure why you weren't called- you should have been called. I ask to speak to a manager. A gentleman comes over and I explain that I'm upset bc I chose a convenient option and all I've been is inconvenienced! His employees are walking around with T-shirt's advertising the Order online and we bring your groceries to you BUT that's not what is happening at all- I explain that had I been called I wouldn't have wasted my time to drive 20min for 2 boxes of spaghetti I could've got at the Vons 2min from my house! He apologized and said they're trying to get this new service under control bc it's been insane lately with the high demand of toiletry items. He then said we could grab items off the shelf from our original order or anything else we may need at No charge for the inconvenience. The young girl went to the back and grabbed two packs of toilet paper for us- I was able to grab some items off my order. In the end I was satisfied that the Manager made it right- i SO appreciate that he listened to me and understood my frustration and he allowed us to get the items we could find at no charge. I am giving two stars due to the shoppers in regards to delivery. If they're out of an item they find horrible replacements. The items they have they leave off half the time and groceries that are due to come at 7p show up around 9 or 10pm. It's the worst grocery delivery service by far. I ordered a raw turkey breast to roast for dinner and the shopper picked up instead a cold pre cooked half turkey breast packaged in disgusting gelatin. Another time I ordered potatoes and they claimed to not have any?? A third time I ordered ground turkey and got pork. The shoppers don't seem to care if the items are correct and many times items were just left out, not subbed but just ignored. I honestly felt that the shoppers did not care at all about getting the items I prepaid for rather just cared about getting the items they felt like getting. Been coming here 2-3x/week since moving to town 3 years ago. No longer coming back since they removed self-checkout. It's as though they are going back in time. Went from 4 self-checkouts which made getting in and out so easy to replacing with 2 express lanes of which I've only seen one ever staffed and it's just a hassle now as each of my 3 visits since the clerk either seems lost or wants to carry on a conversation with every customer. read more

I remember when this store opened it was wonderful--people weren't cranky and moody and just kept getting better and better. But now days even the managers suck at their job and throw an attitude when asked a question because they can't multitask during their busy hours. A lot of their cashiers have some sort of attitude problems that I don't see at other grocery stores. I was waiting in the self-checkout because my daughter was sitting on the bagging section (it fools the register thinking I put something there without scanning it first) and the machine tells me I need assistance. I was the only one standing there and the night manager and the cashier overseeing the self-checkout just talked on without paying attention to the problem when they were standing right in FRONT of me. Prices keep getting higher and higher. The economy influences this but this Vons is always pricier than the other grocery stores I've been to for the same exact items. Upside to this place is they have a large produce selection compared to the other Vons on Telegraph or Seaward. Do I buy produce from there? Only on a time pinch. This isn't about our local stores. They are excellent! I am writing to let delivery customers know that Von's is eliminating their eCommerce delivery service and are contracting with DoorDash for grocery delivery. They are going to try to place their drivers, but if there are no openings the drivers will be laid off. Sad, especially during COVID. I have an email from corporate that says this change will take place 2/27/21. That's not true. A DoorDash driver attempted to deliver my groceries on 1/6/21. I refused the delivery. He came from 30 minutes away, would not/could not tell me how long he'd been driving around with my groceries...in his van...no refrigeration. Argh! And DoorDash has the worst reputation for delivery! I didn't check any boxes or otherwise agree to have my groceries delivered by an unregulated, anonymous, unaccountable driver in an unrefrigerated, unsanitary vehicle. During the worst health crisis of our lifetime. It's not like this guy was bringing me a shirt or new pair of shoes. It's my FOOD. I am still waiting for Von's to refund my money. I'm older and cancer survivor that has used their delivery for over 6 years. It was the best! Oh well. Am very thankful I can still go out for groceries. All the Vons stores I've been to have long, sucky checkouts & this one is no exception. They rearranged their checkout lines so they're extra awkward with the three slow-moving express lanes, to make sure you know you're in a Vons! Less grimy & full of tweakers than the Avenue location, but still a downer to visit. I'll gladly pay a little more for my groceries at Ralph's because they keep their checkout lines short. AND for the 10th time tonight during checkout an item won't scan & the cashier asks me if I knew how much it was. WHY IS THIS SUCH A FREQUENT PROBLEM?
