This Vons should just close down. First of all the manager is a piece of work. He was rude, I asked him about the spices and he says HOW LONG HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN LOOKING FOR. I always look forward to shopping at this Vons location. Great staff, always service with a smile. Good decor with well-stocked shelves. Clean. Great discounts when using your Vons club card. Worst customer service ever. I have never been treated so poorly. I am new to the area and trying out all the local grocery stores until I find the one that will be my store. Let me tell you this one is not it. It is terrible. My cart was over flowing with groceries so much that a concerned customer suggested I get a second cart. I told her thanks, but if I can make it to the check out I will be fine. Of course there is staff everywhere, but none offered to help. Then got to the check out and asked them to bag everything as it was easier for me to carry in. I had about a dozen reusable bags, but not enough for my order. The cashier took a rude tone with me and asked if I had more bags since I want everything bagged. He then called a bagger over to help and as soon as she finished bagging and filled two carts she left, but it gets better. In the middle of my order the cashier stops to train another cashier using my order as an example. That wouldn't normally be a big deal except that I had already entered my debit card. The cashier proceeds to yell at me yes I said yell at me and tell me I should never enter my card until they are done. I responded by saying I didn't know you were going to stop in the middle of my order and I have been doing it that way for over 15 years at the Pavillons in Culver City and never had a problem until the Vons in Tarzana. What's even worse is that the cashier, Carlos seems to be some kind of manager or supervisor because he was giving the previous cashier her break. Now that my order is finished and I'm certain my digital coupons are messed up because of how he split my order into two orders, the bagger has disappeared and I'm left to take two shooing carts and over$400 worth of groceries out on my own. Then the concerned female customer starts yelling at them to help me. I told her thanks, but it's obvious they don't want to help me. I make it to my car and two male customers came up and offered to help me. I was so touched I began to cry and thanked them. They said don't let those guys bother me they are just lazy. Could have better service in the Deli. They did not have crackers that go with the soup for 2 wks. Could be cleaner where they make your sandwich and change gloves after touching the toaster handle. Vons is sorounded by medical staff a lot. They should pay more attention! read more

Beautiful store. Everything is laid out really well. But their checkout always seems to take forever. It almost looks like they are understaffed and checking out might take you longer than the shopping. If you are just running in to get one item or something quick you might be stuck in the checkout for 10 to 15 minutes. Just plan ahead and you will be fine. read more

Watch out everyone there food can be extremely expired! Twice this week I accidentally bought expired items. When I went back to return something today that I bought last night the manager christine was not friendly, not sorry and quite dismissive. The guy that returned it was totally a jerk also. I was on my way out to rhe gym with hubby and just ran in to do that real quick so no I did not have my credit card on me. He demanded the $6 be out back to the card. When I asked him to ask the manager to override it he automatically did it and said "this is the only time I will do this for you" blah blah blah. Came in today for a cake had to wait over 40min still didn't get the cake I wanted took one random cake out the fridge they had prepacked already they kept paying bakery and no response I requested to talk to the manager and he didn't even bother to come talk to me about my complaint. It's upsetting how they have 2 people for the bakery and not one showed up to help I found this out from one of the employee's. They have my favorite premium cat litter and, unlike Ralph's, they take Apple Pay. Cashiers always fast and friendly.

Every time I come here there is only one fund that is open, the line is very long!!! It's really annoying!!! There is no express line, and everything goes so slowly! I hope they will start to change that habit and develop more funds during the day, because after all I love to buy here but it's hard for me to stand so long on line. read more

Not my favorite grocery store in the valley. This is the closest Von's near my house but I'll drive out further to a different Vons because this one is pretty horrible. The lines are always long. ALWAYS! Went in on a Sunday night before 9pm just to pick up a couple of things. How crowded could the lines be on a Sunday night, right? Well, they have this promotion plastered before you walk in the store and hanging from all the ceilings about 3 is a crowd. More than 3 people in a line and they'll open another line. Well, that didn't happen. Oh, the employees don't look very happy either. They look overworked and tired. These are the times that I remind myself not to come to this store anymore. The absolute worst place on earth. I don't do my grocery shopping here at all. I randomly stop by for french bread or ice cream. No matter what time of the day I come in, whether it be after work at 6pm or when I get the hankering for something sweet at 10pm, there is ALWAYS a long line. If I have no other choice, I go to this place. I'd rather be either at Trader Joe's, Smart&FInal, or even Ralphs. The selection is very limited, in regards to vegetables, and the prices are high. Once you get through the typically always long lines to the checkout stand, you'll likely spend time listening to the random conversations of the employees talking to each other. Not even the cashiers care to acknowledge your presence. And if you have a specific and uncommon item that you need them to find, FORGET ABOUT IT. Don't bother. They'll look confused, and just give up. The last time I was in a rush, I headed over to the Gelson's across the street. It was worth paying a few cents more, and then to be able to get out in a hurry. Avoid this place as much as you can. Trust me. read more

Today will be the last day I ever shop at this Vons. I was treated terribly by Izzy, who is a supervisor. She saw me place all of my items on the belt of the checkout she was working at, then shut her light off and walked away. She then came back and told me the register was closed with a smirk on her face. She yelled at me and used vulgar language in front of my children. YES she cursed in front of a 6 and 3 year old. She was condescending, extremely rude, and I will be filing a formal complaint. My kids are crying hysterically that she screamed at me. I have NEVER been treated this poorly anywhere in my entire life. I cannot believe she is a supervisor and allowed to work around the public, she clearly is not fit to be performing her job. I will be filing a formal complaint. I see many other complaints about her on here, sad that she is still allowed to continue abusing customers. I would give this particular Vons no stars if I could. The Latino supervisor is so disrespectful towards his customers (ex-customers). He refused to honor a rain check because it was written at another Vons. Vons had Lipton tea on sale for a $1.99 last week if you bought 4 or more at one time. My mom and aunts are elderly with a host of ailments, so they asked me to pick them up each 8 boxes of tea at the their Vons. I thought it is a good idea to stock up for the winter as well, and my brother and I thought we'd each get 4 boxes, so 32 boxes total. When we arrived, it was about 10:00pm and they were completely out of the tea. I asked the manager and she offered me a rain check for 30 after explaining the situation. She was very nice and very professional. So, my wife goes into our local Vons (Tarzana) and the store supervisor refuses to honor their promise. My wife calls me and puts this supervisor on the phone and he tells me that the Vons policy is limit 3 items on rain checks, even if the minimum purchase required is 4 or more... huh? I called Vons headquarters and asked if I had a rain check for 30 items, how many can I get? Answer: 30. This supervisor is a liar and doesn't know the first thing about keeping a customer (not to mention, during a time when we're all trying to keep our businesses going). If this wasn't bad enough, he goes as far as suggesting that we added the 0 after a 3 to make it 30, even though the manager which originally wrote 30 also wrote that we must purchase no less than 4 to get this price. 10/28/2010 @7:30pm is when this incident happened at the Tarzana Vons. Ordered a platter of "All rolled up" from the deli over the phone. It was great that they were able to make it that day for pickup a few hours later. However I noticed on the website that a medium size platter was available and I was told that I could only order a large. $60 worth of these sandwiches was really too much for the size holiday party they were being purchased for. Would have been nice to have been offered both sizes. Had I had the time to stop at Costco I would have saved a lot of money. Oh well. read more

The 2 stars are solely for the staff here. This Vons needs to be shut down, or at least renovated, immediately. It's pathetically small for a supermarket, and the selection suffers as a result. Their meat department is depressing; I almost had to go elsewhere to buy ground beef because they ran out (really?!). This Vons is horrible. It's half the size of other Vons locations. The asian section is a third of one side of an aisle. Their meat selection is poor and their seafood selection is close to non-existent. The management is the worst. The night supervisor Eladio is one of the most rude, sexist and homophobic people I have met. He's also extremely lazy and doesn't provide any productive customer service when the general manager is off duty. The cashiers are nice. Alvin is sweet. The bathrooms are locked on the top floor and you have to ask for a key to use them. This type of thing is understandable but very frustrating. There are no self checkout terminals here either. The workers however are friendly. One of them signed me up for the Von's card and all I had to do was agree, I didn't even have to give my phone number. The prices here also quite good. read more

I always tell myself I'm done shopping here. Today I was sold two, four month old frozen pizzas that expired in August. I live across the street from this Vons, so the temptation to shop here is strong, but it's pretty cruddy. Everything's expensive and a lot of things I need for baking are only available in one (pricy) brand. Also, I was looking in the spice aisle for cinnamon, didn't like the price and walked around the store a little bit. This is the worst Vons I have ever shopped at. I've had to return food twice and once found a dead rat in the parking lot. I hadn't been since the rat incident over a year ago and went again today. The store looked better but when I got to the meat department I realized nothing had changed. All of the steaks and roasts where brown turning grey. I am very surprised at this place, I love Vons and shop at other stores all the time. This is just horribly run and might actually be unsafe.
