This Vons has a surprising selection of organic produce. If I can't make it over to Sprouts, whom I know has a large variety of organic produce down the street I know this one has it. Vons in Santee has organic bananas and sometimes organic berries we find don't immediately over ripen and that's good! The organic bananas are clearly marked with green tape making them easy to distinguish and I always enjoy the surprise items I find on sale, this time it was häggen-dazs Mint chip. Sweet. read more

As I was in Vons today my 7 month old decided to puke all over himself and his stroller. As i had everything in the basket of the stroller i found an empty one towards the front of the store to put all my stuff in while i go to clean him up in the car. In the process of transferring all my stuff the cashier called for assistance and another worker came up to me and without a beat started handing me napkins and got a bag to throw all the gross ones in. Mind you there was a lot and it smelled horrible and he helped me so much assuring me everything was okay and to take my time. I was very grateful for him to be there and make that terrible situation feel like just a minor inconvenience. I feel so bad cause i can't remember his name cause i was in such a fluster, i think it may have been frank or fred something with an f if i'm not mistaken. But i hope you see this and know how much it truly was appreciated. not to mention as i was taking off my kids puked covered clothes he grabbed more napkins and started cleaning some leftover puke in the stroller. read more

Come on, Vons. At 5pm, lines are 10 people deep, not 1 cart in the entryway, aisles are full of pallets with people stocking shelves, and only 2 checkers open. Tried to get bacon, soo many choices, but the first 3 are expired. Had a full cart, forced to use self checkout... But you can't get bags until you empty your basket... So it takes twice as long. I don't live in Santee, but I work here and this store is close to my office, so I often run here on a lunch break to pick up an odd or end for dinner or grab snacks for the office or even a quick lunch from the Deli. The Deli is why I am writing this review. Twice this week I grabbed lunch from the Service Deli and both times, Sergio, was the young man who helped me out. His Momma should be very proud of him, he's extremely polite, understands customer service, even though I would venture to say he's probably no older than 20, but more likely he's probably 18 or 19. He was 100% an example of what someone who works in the customer service industry should be. I will continue to shop this store and continue to grab lunch at the deli because of the excellent customer service I received. Thank you Sergio for being an exemplary employee. read more

I decided to make a grocery trip to Vons this morning, as I usually shop at Food for Less (only because its closer) but I needed fresh produce so I thought I would head to Vons, and I must say, it was such a pleasant experience!! Not only did I find so many awesome deals and things I wouldn't normally find at other grocery stores, but the best part about it was that every single time I passed an employee, weather it was a stocker, a deli worker, a bakery person or just a worker passing by, they ALL said with a smile, "Good morning, are you finding everything ok?" And "Hope you have a great day!" And it really made my shopping experience amazing! Guest service with a smile really makes a difference!! Definitely won't be going here again. They claim that employees are required to take COVID precautions, but they're not even enforcing their own policy. It is what is out here Santee there aren't an abundance of places to grocery shop. It seems likes Vons is definitely the "go-to" store out here. As you can imagine it can get pretty busy and at times the lines are just outrageous... however like I said not really anything that can be done about it! But I love how they have more recently reset the store, it's is looking even more orderly! All of the staff members here are very nice and helpful so of course I keep coming back!! Every time I leave this store it's in frustration. I can summarize it in one word, SLOW. I've never managed to get in and out of this store quickly. The check out process is so SLOW. There is no urgency when it comes to check out, it reminds me of the DMV sloths from Zootopia read more

I decided to try this shop out this morning around 8am instead of waiting for Costco to open to grab sodas for the office. I finish paying at the self-help line and am loading the sodas into a basket with my one good hand, avoiding plastic bags as usual, when a rude, obnoxious little woman walks over to me and without introduction snidely barks, "You can't take the basket outside. People have been stealing them." Verbatim. I'm dressed business casual, clean-cut, etc. I apologized with good nature and she proceeds to snatch the basket away from me after I unload it and walks away. No "sorry, sir" or anything remotely respectful - quite the opposite. Frustrated, I pile the three packs into my arm and clumsily walk out to grab a cart for myself and, while walking out, she mockingly chortles, "Bye bye!" As a small business owner and a veteran, had I caught this happening to one of my customers I would have probably fired her on the spot. I was livid after this. I'm not sure what kind of business they're running here, but I was taught that every employee that works on the floor and is customer-facing is a salesman first and foremost and the only thing that silly person sold me on was to not return. Lesson learned: Wait for Costco to open. read more

I Typically prefer vons to the other grocery stores. This particular store is surrounded by cotstco, walmart, target, and a slew of other grocery stores. You would think they would want to keep there store pristine and friendly so as to compete with all of these other stores. That however, does not seem to be the case. While i was there i couldn't help but feel welcomed. At one point an employee with a mop was passing by and seemed extremely annoyed i didn't immediately notice him and jump out of the way. Often when i check out i try to have a short conversation with the tellers. I have to imagine there job gets a bit boring and most seem to appreciate the conversation if it isn't busy. Here though i am barley acknowledged and the tellers seemed more interested in talking about other employees then paying attention to the customer. The food is of the normal quality and i still shop here at this location, but i am not as impressed with the staff as in there other locations. read more

Since I live right around the corner, I am always coming to this place at anywhere from 10:00pm - 12:00am. The people working at that time are great! Since Albertson closed last year this store has become the main grocery store in Santee. The parking lot is very crowded and its hard to find a cart to use. The employees are not friendly or helpful I don't know why they ask if you found everything ok, because 4 out of 5 times they have no clue if they sell the item or who to ask. They never have enough lanes open either. Last time I went their in February on a Sunday at 12pm they had 4 regular lanes open, self check and 1 express lane and the lines were going down the isles, they acted like you can wait or leave we don't care. Used Vons for my wedding cake and cupcakes. Got a bunch of compliments from the guests- they were so good!! Very cute too- we asked for the rose patterned frosting on both the cake and cupcakes. The price was very affordable- was happy we went with them and not a bakery :) Small cake (8in bottom tier and 5in top tier) and 120 cupcakes all for about $99! I don't shop at Von's that often however my husband wanted corn beef and cabbage for dinner. They had corn beef it was expensive $21.00 however I understand why being it was good quality and out of season . I was happy they had what I needed . I also enjoyed that they had a Starbucks so I could enjoy a coffee while shopping. As I'm walking around the store I ask myself who can afford to shop here everything is so expensive. I do most of my shopping at Costco, sprouts, and wal mart . Being a family of four and middle class I just can't afford to shop here other then the twice a month trip to pick up meat . I do enjoy the meat department but other then that I'm sorry to say Von's is just out of my price range. I wish Von's could bring prices down on items so more people could shop here comfortable. Most employees here are very good at their jobs. And friendly too. But use another pharmacy in town. These people are the worst I have had to deal with. I was sent new insurance cards and paperwork by my ins. co. And the co. said to give the pharmacy the new info. The clerk gave me a LOOK LIKE YOU ARE BOTHERING ME, and said, I don't want it before she knew what I had. When I told her my ins. co. said to give it to the pharmacy she took a look and then entered the new info. Then she said, Well you are confused. What kind of response is that? The vons website was always down when i tried to use it and the same jerk clerk said You don't know how to use your computer. What kind of response is that?? I cannot get my meds on auto refill, either by the pharmacists or online. I'm back at Walgreens now and happy with their professionalism. This Vons pharmacy SUCKS THE BIG ONE. read more

People are always spilling into the aisles or blocking UNMANNED checkout stands. I'm an employee of a credit union across the street from here and I'm always visiting for balloons, flowers, food, or goodies for anniversaries and birthdays.
