Great experience here at this Vons store. It is December 23rd, and this store and the parking lot are fully loaded. Despite the customer traffic, the store is well stocked. There are plenty of opportunities to get extra help;I received some direction from the deli counter to find certain items. The checkout lines run really smoothly. The self-checkout line moved very quickly with the assistance of a Vons customer service person. Free parking lot. Plenty of items to choose from in the store. Reasonably priced. read more

This has become my new favorite location to do a pickup! They're not only incredibly fast to fulfill the order, each person I've interacted with has been extremely kind to me. The lot itself is super busy & there are a lot of pickup spots, but LOTS of people park here then enter the store . We finally checked out Vons grocery store last week. We came in for the basics. The produce looked great. We opted for the different salad bags for convenience. The grapes were crazy sweet and delicious. I'm not sure if it's me or my imagination, but the aisles seem to be not as wide as other grocery stores. We seem to be playing bumper cars with other shoppers by accident. This grocery store provides everything like any other grocery stores. They offer produce, meats, deli, dairy products, noodles, drinks, and many more! It may be pricier than some discount grocery outlets, though. To be honest, all groceries have gone through the roof the past few years. We bought mostly weekly sale items. We saw a handful of employees stocking shelves. It's a bit more expensive than Food 4 Less . But I offen go there for the conference of not having to drive somewhere else to spend a dollar on gas and save 10 cents on a half gallon of milk. The shelves are well stocked. .The store is kept clean. The restroom is clean but now they keep it locked. The staff is mostly friendly but there are a couple cashiered that seem to be there because they have to be there. On my most recent visit I noticed a stocker was beeing approached by several customers (including yours truly) who would ask him where an item was. In each case he'd stop what he was doing and walk the person to the item's location. I wish I would have caught his name. He deserves the recognition.Also on my most recent visit the cashier was friendly. She acted as if she remembered me from past visits, which made me feel welcome and appreciated. Went tonight for a quick grocery and the store did not have baskets near the door so my partner and i proceeded to walk from one end of the registers to the next. A rude cashier who was manager short older woman with grey hair and bangs rudely stopped us saying we couldn't walk further and rudely tossed a basket to us from the floor of her register. When she got to us at checkout she couldn't even be bothered to unload our basket as she asked my partner to as well as told him to put it away on the register behind us. The security in this place is terrible. I was walking down the baking isle, and coming toward me was a tall black man behind him was a short female black security guard. That man would have walked right through me if I wasn't watching, I had to jump out of his way, this was at around 6:00-6:30 or so tonight 10/23/25 at18:28 or right before that. So today my boyfriend was in Vons on balboa and turned a corner and slid on spilled oil and fell on his bum and back. There was a yellow sign hidden and not visible to the public warning of a spill. A female that worked there ( (he didn't get her name) came and told him he needed to calm down after telling her they needed to clean it up (using a few choice words. ) no apology, didnt ask him if he was ok , no apology. Vons on Balboa Ave in Clairmont. Lazy, sloppy store staffed by employees who don't even pretend to be friendly, and nearly every one of them appears to be counting the minutes until their shift is over. I used to love Vons. For 50+ years it's been my preferred grocery store. No longer, and not for a long time. Maybe the cause of Vons' decline has been its 2-tiered pay culture where the people hired long ago get better compensation and benefits than the newer hires. Maybe it's because they hire poorly and store managers just don't have the leadership and people skills required of their positions. I don't know and I barely care anymore. Aldi opens their new store on the corner of Balboa and Genesee on November 21, 2024. At this time I plan to give all my business to them and Costco. Vons and their " we don't really give a damn" attitude can take a hike for now. Let's see what Aldi can offer!!! read more

I completely understand the need for Vons to curb theft, especially with high-theft items like hygiene products. But the way this policy is being handled makes the shopping experience miserable for regular, honest customers. On my recent visit, I patiently waited for someone to unlock the case so I could grab two bottles of shampoo and two bottles of conditioner. When the clerk arrived, I was told I could only place two items in my cart while the other two had to be held up front. Really? I can't be trusted to make it to the register with four bottles of shampoo and conditioner? It felt frustrating and honestly a bit insulting--not only do I have to wait for help just to access basic products, but I'm then treated like I might walk out with them. I understand the intention behind the policy, but the execution needs serious rethinking. Regular shoppers shouldn't have to feel like suspects to buy everyday essentials. read more

Once again---standing in line with only one check stand open and 6 people in front of me. This is an issue that occurs regularly. They may have a 2nd check stand open in the afternoon, but even then people are lined up in the aisles -- as it was during the pandemic. Once in a while I can see this being an issue, but it's become a regular thing at this Von's since a new manager was brought in. The number of employees standing around chatting, or doing everything except ensuring people don't have to wait 20 minutes(or more) to pay for their groceries. They've got some great cashiers who work hard and do their best, like Mindy, Harry, and many others...but, they can't make up for the fact that there aren't enough cashiers scheduled OR management isn't paying attention and calling for employees from other depts. to hop on a check stand to help get the lines down. I've worked in a grocery store before and they always pulled employees from other dept. open a line in order to do this. At first, I'd hoped it was just the whole "new manager" thing, but it's gone on for far too long. read more

ZITA!! Omg she is absolutely amazing and so understanding. I had originally ordered a custom cake from cold stone 2 days before christmas eve (needed it for my spouses birthday which was christmas eve) and the cake didn't look anything like the reference photo. We ran to baskin robins hoping for a last minute custome cake but of course since it's christmas eve they were all booked. BUTTT when we went over to vons and explained everything to this super nice woman named Zita, she MADE IT WORK. We were explaining with a long line and everything and she took the time to hear us out and write everything down and still make it and have it ready the same day. I grocery shop at Vons frequently and it's nice that they open until 1am! Their deli meats and cheeses are really good. Some of their produce is more expense than other grocers, but locations and hours are more convenient at times. I didn't have time to make anything for our company potluck, so I decided to drop by the Vons that was closest to work to pick up some chicken. Love this vons specifically for seafood and meat counter. Their crab legs are usually on sale for $9.99 or $11.99 a lb. They have great shrimp specials and their salmon is fresh and portions are only 4.99 per piece as well and cannot forget their lobster tails, my favorite! My favorite part about this location is the customer service in the seafood and meat department. At all other locations I usually have to wait for service or have to deal with an attitude. Mike is absolutely amazing. He has such a positive and pleasant disposition and always goes above and beyond to help customers even when busy. He is also really knowledgeable. 5. Came in to redeem my instant winner coupons since the game ended. Never played before. I didn't know what the rules were. Like can I use them all at once or one per visit? I originally came in for pepperoni for my home made pizza and since the game ended people gave me their game pieces. I kept the instant winner products I wanted and here I am. Like most grocery stores this one has implemented the Covid safety rules. Large signs and stickers on the floor have aisles going in a one way direction and a 6 ft distance at check out. I got some of the instant winner items that were in stock then got in queue. The 6 ft regulation makes the queues look longer then what they really are. A grumpy old man in front of me started yelling and berating the cashier for being too slow at 12 ft distance. Rude! He kept saying she's too slow and the cashier beside her was quicker. No no. Not on my watch jerk. So I yelled at him to not yell at her and take his grumpy entitled bum to the next line then. When it was my turn I told the cashier not to let his bad vibes mess up her day. She rang up all my items and coupons and my balance was $0.00. Hell ya! Look these workers are working hard and doing their best to keep everyone safe. As a traveler I see this a lot. Especially new travelers. They all want to be treated like VIP and they've done nothing to achieve VIP status. The shelves here are being stocked as fast as the products are coming in. The workers are diligently wiping every cart, every credit card machine after every use. They are cleaning all the handles in the freezer section to make sure we have a lower incident rate of catching covid. They are the ones who should be treated like VIP's not the grumpy old man. To the young gal at the register she handled herself well as he attempted to embarrass and humiliate her. I don't tolerate those kind of people.
