When someone goes to a bakery to buy a birthday cake, they're usually celebrating something- there should be a little joy and customer service involved. Waiting for an acknowledgment while three employees are there sucks. The glass display was foggy so I had to ask for prices that should have been clearly displayed. I asked if they could please write "Happy Birthday" on the cake. Instead of simply responding, the employee walked away and came back with the writing already done. I appreciate that it was taken care of, but seriously... use your words. A simple "Absolutely!" or "Sure!" would have made a huge difference. Communication and basic friendliness would go a long way. read more

I'm not surprised to see so many one star reviews. If you come for friendly service, good luck. I've had a few good encounters with staff but most of them seem unhappy to be there. Today for example I went to self checkout. I saw the bags on a small podium. The SCO person was standing next to it. I asked if I could have a bag, please. She told me, they're right here. Ummm... I told her I wasn't sure if it was ok for me to just take one. She got one for me and put it in my basket. The bags suck btw, it ripped when we took it out of the car. We only go here occasionally because we like the chicken from the deli and the sandwiches. They also have some decent sales. The store is clean and roomy. From here on I'll try to remember my own bags and will keep to myself at SCO. read more

Great experience here at this Vons store. It is December 23rd, and this store and the parking lot are fully loaded. Despite the customer traffic, the store is well stocked. There are plenty of opportunities to get extra help;I received some direction from the deli counter to find certain items. The checkout lines run really smoothly. The self-checkout line moved very quickly with the assistance of a Vons customer service person. Free parking lot. Plenty of items to choose from in the store. Reasonably priced. read more

This has become my new favorite location to do a pickup! They're not only incredibly fast to fulfill the order, each person I've interacted with has been extremely kind to me. The lot itself is super busy & there are a lot of pickup spots, but LOTS of people park here then enter the store . Food quality has always been great & they offer foods not at my other two local Vons store. read more

cashier with the jet black hair, an older lady was so rude to my boyfriend & I. First they had only two cashiers open and the lines went halfway through the aisle. So we waiting in line alone for 15 minutes. My boyfriend purchase a bottle of tequila and a case of squirt. He provided his ID and then she asked for mine. I WAS NOT PAYING, I didn't even have my purse on me. I had a photo of it, which I know they don't take but I worked at vons for 6 years as a bookkeeper/supervisor and we were trained to only as for the ID of whoever is paying. I worked there literally one month ago and when I mentioned that she said "the law changed" & "she has the right to ask" trust me I understand but she was extremely rude to us and we also had to wait in a line for 15+ minutes which should also not be the case. I will be taking my business to the clairemont location from now on. Please teach your cashier manners. older lady with black hair. thanks read more

We finally checked out Vons grocery store last week. We came in for the basics. The produce looked great. We opted for the different salad bags for convenience. The grapes were crazy sweet and delicious. I'm not sure if it's me or my imagination, but the aisles seem to be not as wide as other grocery stores. We seem to be playing bumper cars with other shoppers by accident. This grocery store provides everything like any other grocery stores. They offer produce, meats, deli, dairy products, noodles, drinks, and many more! It may be pricier than some discount grocery outlets, though. To be honest, all groceries have gone through the roof the past few years. We bought mostly weekly sale items. We saw a handful of employees stocking shelves. They were friendly and helpful in finding items on our list. Overall, we had a great shopping experience. read more

This morning, I went to pick up a few things. I ended up buying so many wonderful delicious items fruit ,produce. Steaks ,hamburger. Food for my lunch for the week and extras. Everything was prepared beautifully fresh and a lot of good savings but most of all I more than impressed with all the workers I saw . Every department .They're also dedicated to providing stocked shelves service cashiers. I was asking myself why are these people working so fast and so hard! Really ! They're working to keep the store ready for the big day and prepare for next weekend Labor Day not to mention it's been the hottest weather in San Diego all week all month and next week too ! I could not keep up with any of the crew ! Thank you all ! Today my trip to the store was amazing. Normally I shop a little everywhere to keep up with the best prices because of the economy I even bought steak which I don't even go in that area since the prices start going up ! certainly your store manager district manager, and everybody must recognize your work! read more

I shop at this Vons at least three times a week, and every time I come in, my interactions with the cashiers are very pleasant. They are always friendly and sweet. However, tonight I was checked out by a cashier named Mindy, and unfortunately, it was the worst customer service experience I've had at this store. I don't know if she was having a bad day or was in a bad mood, but her tone and attitude made me feel unwelcome, and I left feeling upset by the way I was treated. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, but there is no reason to be rude to customers. What made this experience especially disappointing is that the rest of the staff at this store has always been so kind and professional. read more

Hey , just went to Vons for some orange juice and the juice was placed from 899 in the 499 spot. The manager with the short hair semi mustache try telling me that a customer moved it over so I couldn't get the cheaper price when I know for a fact, past retail employee that no matter what they have to honor that price point sit there and argue with me in front of guest about the whole situation, I'm very unfriendly and very unprofessional and poor customer service skills read more

The floral arrangement worker woman with blonde and black hair should honestly be moved to stock shelves! She was rude inconsiderate and did a 2.4/10 job with the wrap on the bouquet and extra 10$ I told my self not to pay because I knew I just felt it she was going to do a bad job and I was correct. She ignored my hello, and thank you. Spoke to a manager doubt anything will change just remember YOU Never Know why someone's picking up flowers or what others are going through '! I went to Vons on Monday & in the midst of shopping i needed to use the womens bathroom. It was out of order. I asked to use the mens & was told no, i asked to use the employee's bathroom and they said they don't have any. They use the same as customer's use. Told me to go to Jersey Mikes which was a bit of a walk. Jersey Mike's seems to have an issue. I am in my mid 70's and it was very hot. I couldn't do that. i was very upset and left before I had an accident. Very upsetting and so embarrassed. Just when i swore off ANY VONS EVER - I stopped at the one in Balboa-- I have never seen any store as ridiculously overpriced- some items more than twice the price of RALPHS ! Hopefully the place will fold and the idiots who manage such stupidity are baggin groceries at a grocery outlet soon . I'm sure they get barraged by negative reviews so they"re management doesn't care ! They now have one less customer/ family's shopping devotion --- freakin idiots ! read more

It's a bit more expensive than Food 4 Less . But I offen go there for the conference of not having to drive somewhere else to spend a dollar on gas and save 10 cents on a half gallon of milk. The shelves are well stocked. .The store is kept clean. The restroom is clean but now they keep it locked. The staff is mostly friendly but there are a couple cashiered that seem to be there because they have to be there. On my most recent visit I noticed a stocker was beeing approached by several customers (including yours truly) who would ask him where an item was. In each case he'd stop what he was doing and walk the person to the item's location. I wish I would have caught his name. He deserves the recognition. Also on my most recent visit the cashier was friendly. She acted as if she remembered me from past visits, which made me feel welcome and appreciated. I did catch her name but I'm having a senior moment and can't recall it right now. I'm sure it will come to me when I'm not thinking of it. read more

Vons on balboa ave gets worse everyday!!! over 30 people in line and two registers open. I have shopped here for over 40 years. you speak with someone about it and it falls on deaf ears. read more

Vons on Balboa Ave in Clairmont. Lazy, sloppy store staffed by employees who don't even pretend to be friendly, and nearly every one of them appears to be counting the minutes until their shift is over. I used to love Vons. For 50+ years it's been my preferred grocery store. No longer, and not for a long time. Maybe the cause of Vons' decline has been its 2-tiered pay culture where the people hired long ago get better compensation and benefits than the newer hires. Maybe it's because they hire poorly and store managers just don't have the leadership and people skills required of their positions. I don't know and I barely care anymore. Aldi opens their new store on the corner of Balboa and Genesee on November 21, 2024. At this time I plan to give all my business to them and Costco. Vons and their " we don't really give a damn" attitude can take a hike for now. Let's see what Aldi can offer!!! read more

The security in this place is terrible. I was walking down the baking isle, and coming toward me was a tall black man behind him was a short female black security guard. That man would have walked right through me if I wasn't watching, I had to jump out of his way, this was at around 6:00-6:30 or so tonight 10/23/25 at18:28 or right before that. Went tonight for a quick grocery and the store did not have baskets near the door so my partner and i proceeded to walk from one end of the registers to the next. A rude cashier who was manager short older woman with grey hair and bangs rudely stopped us saying we couldn't walk further and rudely tossed a basket to us from the floor of her register. When she got to us at checkout she couldn't even be bothered to unload our basket as she asked my partner to as well as told him to put it away on the register behind us. So today my boyfriend was in Vons on balboa and turned a corner and slid on spilled oil and fell on his bum and back. There was a yellow sign hidden and not visible to the public warning of a spill. I don't enjoy writing about negative experiences, but I want to warn others about Drive Up Grocery (DUG) pick up option where you order online. I completely understand the need for Vons to curb theft, especially with high-theft items like hygiene products. But the way this policy is being handled makes the shopping experience miserable for regular, honest customers. On my recent visit, I patiently waited for someone to unlock the case so I could grab two bottles of shampoo and two bottles of conditioner. When the clerk arrived, I was told I could only place two items in my cart while the other two had to be held up front. Really? I can't be trusted to make it to the register with four bottles of shampoo and conditioner? It felt frustrating and honestly a bit insulting--not only do I have to wait for help just to access basic products, but I'm then treated like I might walk out with them. I understand the intention behind the policy, but the execution needs serious rethinking. Regular shoppers shouldn't have to feel like suspects to buy everyday essentials. read more

Narrow isles, things locked up, poor service. First I was dodging people left and right, you can barely fit 2 carts to pass through the isles. Once again---standing in line with only one check stand open and 6 people in front of me. This is an issue that occurs regularly. They may have a 2nd check stand open in the afternoon, but even then people are lined up in the aisles -- as it was during the pandemic. Once in a while I can see this being an issue, but it's become a regular thing at this Von's since a new manager was brought in. The number of employees standing around chatting, or doing everything except ensuring people don't have to wait 20 minutes(or more) to pay for their groceries. They've got some great cashiers who work hard and do their best, like Mindy, Harry, and many others...but, they can't make up for the fact that there aren't enough cashiers scheduled OR management isn't paying attention and calling for employees from other depts. to hop on a check stand to help get the lines down. I've worked in a grocery store before and they always pulled employees from other dept. open a line in order to do this. At first, I'd hoped it was just the whole "new manager" thing, but it's gone on for far too long. read more

I grocery shop at Vons frequently and it's nice that they open until 1am! Their deli meats and cheeses are really good. Some of their produce is more expense than other grocers, but locations and hours are more convenient at times. I didn't have time to make anything for our company potluck, so I decided to drop by the Vons that was closest to work to pick up some chicken. They let me mix and match the mango habanero and crispy chicken, so it was perfect to go with our southern food theme. read more

ZITA!! Omg she is absolutely amazing and so understanding. I had originally ordered a custom cake from cold stone 2 days before christmas eve (needed it for my spouses birthday which was christmas eve) and the cake didn't look anything like the reference photo. We ran to baskin robins hoping for a last minute custome cake but of course since it's christmas eve they were all booked. BUTTT when we went over to vons and explained everything to this super nice woman named Zita, she MADE IT WORK. We were explaining with a long line and everything and she took the time to hear us out and write everything down and still make it and have it ready the same day.
