If I could give this store no stars I would: called to ask how late they would be open during the fire and I received a nasty response, "until they tell us to close!!" I've read quite a few of the reviews and I have to say that I have never had any of the Vons team ignore me or be rude to me or fail to try to help me. One review disparaged the customers. Honestly? These people are our neighbors and friends. I find people to be friendly and nice. Yes, the store can get crowded as they try to meet everyone's product expectations in a small store. Of course because of the pandemic, many products are in short supply but that won't last forever. My only issue is that I can't tell you how many times I've checked my receipt and found that I didn't get the Advertised price. They always make it right but it is distressing that when I've bothered to check my receipt, i've often found discrepancies between what I was charged and The advertised price. I've been told that all the prices are in the computer and if it was wrong at their store it would be wrong at all Vons stores. I don't know about that because I don't often shop at another Vons store since I live here. Also, The weekly ad is designed to make it difficult for you to easily get the advertised price. Okay, so I went back the next day, completed my Vons Member application, and actually received cash back from purchases made the day before without the card (or phone number). The clerk this time was pleasant and efficient. BTW, I saw the angry, rude clerk who had waited on us the day before. Yup, she's still there, angry with life and hating her job apparently. Oh wow must be the worst Store in the chain ! Dirty sidewalks, cramped aisles non caring checkers terrible parking old people just back out of parking spaces meat and seafood department smells . My little family and I happened to be in Ojai past weekend and saw Vons my mother in law got a bologna craving so we stopped in and looked around a bit bought a few extra things which are good especially the bread we purchased was good for my sandwich that night as I ought some lunch meat of my own and cheese just wished the soda specials were better not buy two get one free overall the store was nice and a friendly cashier made our purchase great read more

Next day - 4/24/17 purchased same Knorr Bearnaise mix from Ventura WinCo, price was $0.94 ... both with long-term shelf life. Ojai Vons was almost FOUR times higher price. This is our local Von's. It is often out of stock on items, especially if they are on sale. You also need to expect to stand in line for a long time. They never seem to have enough checkers. I try to go to a different Vons which is about 20 minutes from home but it is not always convenient. I wish they could get this store squared away.... On the plus side the dairy guys are really nice and the produce guys are really knowledgable and helpful. read more

This is the most redic store I have ever shopped in. Came by on a Tuesday, they had two check outs open, ten or more each deep with people, this was at 5 30pm, left, came back at 730, same thing, waited over twenty min to buy one item! There was a person in front of me, she was from out of town and had to experience this horrible display of lack of a good ran business. Clearly this store needs serious help! I will never come again. This Vons is a tough store to shop in. There are always lines into the isles because they are short staffed. The isles are tiny and you constantly get bumped. The selection is minimal especially in the Asian food department. I do my shopping in Ventura whenever possible to avoid this store. read more

If there was an award for the worst grocery store this place would take First Place. It is WAY too small, they have a crummy selection and are usually out of something totally basic. The Ojai Vons is a dump. It's populated by dumpy, unattractive people behind both shopping carts and behind the counters. Just looking up at the ceiling and looking down on the floor tiles ("upgraded" in the 70's) is enough to leave. But wait... there's more... Except for a decent Asian and Mexican food section, there is enough commercially processed food to kill a small town (laughing now). The small produce section sometimes sells organic vegetables. And yes, the parking is ample. read more

This is the worst Von's I have gone too first off most of the people who shop there are rude I've come to find out and 2nd there is an old lady who works there in the morning who puts groceries back on the shelves that collect in a shopping cart.. That decides to push the cart and let go and not look where it stops to put groceries back and it plowed into my wife.. I thought is was kinda funney my wife didn't think so... I thought it might have just been on accident and the lady didn't see because she was old but i was shopping there a few days later by myself and the lady was there and left her "go back cart" rite in the middle of a main isle I'm sorry if she's old but maybe make her a door greeter.. read more

Love everything about this store except the thing that really counts - the check out lines. It is common to have 2-3 checkers with lines that are 15-20 customers deep. They may naively assume people will just not change to other stores, but the competition is right on their heels. Who the f is this manager??!! read more

I hate Vons! They dont even deserve one star. What a monopoly they have in Ventura! The Vons in Ojai is a dump and the isles are so small you can barely get through. Joke of a produce dept. Then you have the avenue Vons. I have gotten ice cream that was melted and refrozen on three occasions. I bought a bag of potatoes and they looked fine but once I started to peel them I discovered some hollowness and found worms in them. I called and they gave me my lousy 4.00 back but never pulled the other ones and they were getting soft. The next closest store is yet again a VONS! I have to drive pass three Vons to get to a Ralphs or Albertsons, by then I just go to Trader Joes. WHY has Vons taken over? read more

I remember 20 some years ago when I first came to this country, landing in Ojai, I got the impression that this Vons was HUGE. Actually, it's because the standards for grocery stores back in my old country were so bad I didn't realise it at that time. Having lived in this country now for over 2 decades, I realise now how small this Vons really is. While taking a ride on the 33 I stopped at the Vons in Ojai and got a sandwich from their deli there. The kid making my sandwich (never changed his gloves) grabbed his cell phone to make a quick text. I didn't give it much thought other than a "kids today and their cell phones" but later after getting a massive stomach ache that nearly knocked me off my motorcycle I replayed the day's events. I realized that I hadn't had any fresh food since the Vons deli and everything else that day was packaged. The only meal that could have been potentially contaminated was at the Vons contamination deli, a contamination sandwich. Then it hit me! I should have requested another employee to make my sandwich, one that doesn't touch anything but my sandwich, or at least an employee that understands basic sanitation practices. What the heck is Vons teaching these kids?! Since when is it ok to be so lazy about teaching sanitation rules to kids who hold the public health in their hands? My stomach cramps while riding a motorcycle could have killed me. If I ever go to Vons contamination deli again, I will be regulating sanitation practices regarding my order but the rest of you are on your own. Be diligent people, it's us against the bacteria and your friendly deli worker (at Vons contamination deli) has no frontal cortex of reasoning but he can send text faster then he makes sandwiches. read more

Rude unhappy employees. The store is small but you expect that for this location. The employees make it a terrible experience.

So tired of this store, they call a SUPER MARKET.. They 9 timrs out of 10, don,t even have enough inventory, to cover the sale item. And 5 Buck Friday is a joke, I. went into the store at 7 am and all ready they didnt have what was advertized in the ad.. Annoyed. I get cakes from different Vons on the go as a personal assistant. I am in Ojai visiting family and was asked to stop by Vons, like the only grocery store option, to pick up a birthday cake. They have the worst selection ever! There are quite a few pies or cake slices but I needed a birthday cake. I was not happy with the one I got. They were out of the numbered candles I needed. And finally, the lines were outrageously long with only 3 registers open. We ended up being in people's way just trying to wait in line to buy a cake I didn't even really want to buy. I really want to like this Vons, but I have found every time I shop at this location, the experience is so unpleasant that I'd rather spend more money elsewhere and contend with less hassle. The nice thing is that they open early and close the latest of all local grocery stores, and the staff is nice. The size & layout of the store, however, makes it a horrific experience - you are constantly running into other people's carts, or having to move out of the way of someone else. The aisles are way too narrow, and the side aisles are overstocked. A few days ago, someone trying to navigate the checkout aisles knocked over a whole display of wine. The end of your shopping experience is greater encumbered by slow checkout lines that are always very full, and having very little space, absolutely no where to stand in line with your cart. I love Vons discounts, but would rather pay more and deal with less stress. read more

Renovations have not helped with the content of this store. Yesterday I asked the clerk who was in the meat department about an item on sale which was not on the shelves. He said he could get it for me if I would wait 15 minutes. Recently I spoke to the manager about an item that was on special and was priced differently in the store. He was defensive. The guy has absolutely no personality. He did not correct the discrepancy. read more
