This is our neighborhood "little Vons" and it's always been wonderful for us! we have been going to the store for over 20 years. Thank you to Vons and, specifically, Charles in the meat department. He helped me with a rib roast order, answering all my questions and providing answers to questions I didn't know I had. He picked out a couple of rib roasts, cut them, and tied them so that I could put on a rotisserie. The meal was perfect, thanks to Charles. I can't recommend him enough. I had an extremely disappointing and uncomfortable experience at this Vons due to racial profiling. Every time I moved to a different aisle, I noticed a security officer actively following and watching me, even positioning himself behind store displays to observe me. At checkout, the same officer stood at the end of the register and monitored my transaction--but did not do the same for other shoppers. This type of treatment is unacceptable and discriminatory. Vons, as part of Albertsons Companies, claims to uphold diversity, equity, and inclusion, yet my experience contradicted these values. Racial profiling not only creates a hostile shopping environment but also raises serious concerns about violations of anti-discrimination laws, including: Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits racial discrimination in public businesses. California's Unruh Civil Rights Act, which makes racial discrimination illegal in stores. If you are Black or a person of color, I strongly urge you to be cautious when shopping at this location. No one should be made to feel unwelcome or unfairly targeted while simply buying groceries. I hope Vons takes accountability and implements real change. read more

I have been here 5 times in the past 6 weeks . The first time I came the cashier closed when I was the next in line . The second time I came the service was great . The cashier was a tall handsome very kind gentlemen . They third time I can , the cashier had a very nasty attitude . The forth time I came the tall nice gentleman was very nice and made me feel very welcomed. The last and final time I came this evening the cashier had a very nasty attitude . I wasn't in her line and she went out of her way to be rude . If this is the way to get your local residents not to Patronize your business it worked . Normally I go to Trader Joe's in Westchester where you are guaranteed great service and spend 30% less than the prices at vons . This store has so much potential, but it fails on so many aspects! It's a nighborhood store tucked away in the middle of Westchester. It's about 1/3 of the size of a normal Vons grocery store, so many items are not stocked on the shelves. I've been shopping here for about 10 years, not because I like the store. It's because it is convenient.. First off, this Vons has one of the worst customer service. *ALL* of the cashiers, except for Jeff and Glenda, are super cranky. I've even called out the cashiers several times about slamming my items on the conveyor belt. Secondly, the lines to check out are oftentimes rediculous! The store only has 4 lanes to check out customers, but oftentimes, they only have 2 lanes open. It is often the case that the lines grow to 9-12 customers long. Thirdly, there is a lot of shoplifting and loitering here. There is a middle-school located right across the street, and on a daily basis, the students come to the store after school and begin to shoplift snacks and drinks. I've seen this 5+ times and even have broght it to the attention of the management. Nothing was done. This results in higher prices for us customers who actually pay for our items. read more

I don't care what anyone says, this is my favorite place to buy groceries. It's conveniently located, easy parking or a good walk. I can usually find what I need for my big family. If you shop right, you can get great discounts here. Of course it's small...but you'd be surprised how many items they do carry. Five dollar Fridays and good beer deals. They have ready made meals, gifts, etc. and the store is clean. Marina is wonderful! Sure, there are a few quirky characters that work there with funky attitudes, but that's how things everywhere these days. I'd like to see local produce, please!!! Long lines can sometimes be annoying, but I go back to the fact that it's a small neighborhood grocery store. And I'm grateful that it is in my neighborhood. read more

For being a customer that comes weekly I'm beyond disappointed in how my last two trips have been. Today I'm confused as to how I'm wrong. I purchased a London broil with a you pay price of $4.41 with a manager 30% off the lowest price. When at checkout the cashier would not adjust the price and said "whatever the computer says is the price." He refuses and there was a manager by us and not one of them wanted to even do the basic math to show the actual price. My point at the end was it's priced with a sticker plus an additional discount and I'm walking out paying .14 less then the you pay price. Anyone that can do math san see that it's incorrect. Absolute worst customer service I've ever seen. I just left after waiting almost 20 minutes for the guy behind the food counter to help.. and he never even got to the person in front of me. The line included a group of kids (4) and an elderly lady, then me. He first was helping kids who'd order and pay, decide they want a soda, then he let them cut back in line. Then instead of helping the lady in front of me he started working on the chickens. Then stopped to talk to someone working behind the counter. It was honestly the worst experience at a grocery store I've ever had and he was super use. I will not be Giving this store my business again. read more

I have to update my review. I'm happy to say that they are finally keeping my favorite beer in stock .But, something I forgot to mention last time, is the attitude of some of the cashiers. Years ago, every employee was super friendly. Now, only about half of them are, especially the african-american women who cashier. Not one of them have ever said more then hi or hello to me. This was a decent Von's. It's either this one or Hermosa, because Manhattan Beach's is very limited and too small. The produce was fresh, their bakery was fresh and fully stocked. The deli seemed like it had a lot more variety than the others I've been too. Store from the outside seems smaller, also the face could use a lift -- it's very dated. Checkout wasn't too bad. The only thing I can imagine what a mess it must be weekdays after work and on the weekends. I liked it, but probably stick to the on in Hermosa. I'll have to check out Pavillion's - but again it's complete madness trying to drive to & the parking...yup. read more

Located in a residential area- like imagine driving down your street and Pop, WOW IT'S A VONS! :) I know the neighborhood loves it! I like this Vons because it's small, carries everything I need and is close to my kids school. Only thing is it's always very cold inside. I randomly came across this Von's while on a walk around my neighborhood. It is tucked in the middle of Kentwood. The location is very convenient when looking for that last minute item or snack. If you are looking for a specific (rarer) item you might not find it here because this is a smaller & nimbler market. Too me they have pretty much whatever I need from drinks, meats, cleaning products, soups, dairy, cereals, deli, bakery and produce to name a few. Really good selection in honeycrisp apples (when in season) and avocados. One of the negatives is the parking which fills up when the nearby schools let out. Be careful a lot of these people drive like asshats to pick up their kids. A majority of the customers are locals and college students. I like it because it reminds me of my favorite market up in Bishop - Joseph's Bi-Rite Market. Quaint where most of the employees are familiar with the regulars. The Ralph's is closer to me but I still prefer to come here. read more

Omg. What's not to like about this Vons? This is the epitome of a quaint neighborhood grocery store where you see the same folks everyday and the staff is friendly and helpful. The parking is super easy and I can be in and out and back home with whatever I need in less than 5-10 minutes depending on my purpose. Usually it was for their fried chicken---yummy! I guess it helped that I lived less than a mile away, but that's the point of having a neighborhood store, right? Convenience and value. I think they do a great job here. Overall, this Von's reminds me of the Pavilions (same thing) on Montana Ave in Santa Monica when I lived on San Vicente. It, too, was also a great neighborhood store, but was open 24 hours or ridiculously late, Super convenient, reasonably priced and great personal service. They need to step up their produce section. We live in a global economy that offers year round produce...and I cant get a container of blueberries? Really? Plus I once got one of those bags of fruit that has Oranges, Red & Green apples with a surprising fuzzy green rotten orange as a prize. They caught it at check out and promptly exchanged it. I was in here with my elderly father who has trouble walking and the checker, in a very sassy tone, yelled at him to hurry up as he was approaching the register. She also mumbled something under her breath to her co-worker. Westchester is home to possibly two of the worst Vons supermarkets in the history of Vondom. I occasionally patronize this market only because it is the better one. It's lacking in square footage so, naturally, it doesn't stock as much variety as others. But when the Vons flyer comes in the mail, trumpeting the sale items, this place often hits sour notes. I could easily wallpaper a poodle kennel with all the pink rain checks collected when this store has run out of sale items. The checkers are better off not asking if you found everything OK. What they do ask here and at all other Safeway Inc.-owned markets, no matter how able-bodied, athletic and strapping you may be, is whether you need help carrying the goods to your vehicle. But they don't ask what type of bags you'd prefer, and by the time you think to tell them (paper-plastic combo), everything is wrapped in plastic, perfect for rolling all over inside a work van. Last trip here, artichokes were on sale for $1.50, but they had none. Produce guy said something about a crop freeze (how's the weather been in Watsonville?). Papa Cantella's Italian sausages were on sale, but they sold out of mild. Plenty of hot style, though. With a coupon, the store brand ice cream was $1.99 for a 1.5-quart carton, but they only had three flavors. This Vons was evidently built on a geophysical mystery spot, reminiscent of the Santa Cruz tourist attraction. No matter how many times this building has been remodeled, it still has an area where, if you let go of your cart for a moment, it rolls on its own to the end of the aisle. It might not be much of a market for filling your cart, but the ride could admittedy earn the store a rating, "good for kids." read more

This place probably deserves four stars, but I'm giving it five for hanging in there so long. See, it's probably one of the original supermarkets that Vons bought out whenever it became Vons. The funny thing about it is that it's right in the middle of a total residential neighborhood. You're probably thinking, "John, many supermarkets are right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. What's the big deal?" Well, you don't know what I mean at all. This place is literally plopped down in the middle of a neighborhood with big yards and custom homes. It's not on a commercial strip at all. It's as if zoning laws don't apply here. (They probably didn't exist when they built this thing.) The market itself is your typical Vons except that it's much smaller. And I mean much smaller. When I went to college at nearby LMU, I always wondered why this small one-mile square needed fourteen supermarkets. I might be exaggerating, but not by much. Seriously, there used to be four Ralphses within two miles of each other. Anyway, when I lived in an on-campus apartment, I shopped here even though it was a little bit more inconvenient. This Vons is the cutest little thing, tucked away in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Its got all the basics, and a nice variety of more unusual and gourmet items, but it is small, so don't expect too much. Everyone in the deli department is slow. They do not even try to step it up if people are waiting. Walk around in a daze. Sandwiches are never the same because they don't keep consistent decent quality staff. And the are always out of stuff. No cheese, out of mayo whatever. As far as grocery stores go, this is probably a 2 or 3. The produce unless you time your trip perfectly, generally isn't good. It definitely has a lot of what real estate people call 'charm'. It doesn't have a good fresh meat or fish selection. The floor is slightly slanted so in several aisles if you let go of your cart for 30 sec, it has moved, hopefully not injuring a small child. All of the prepackaged stuff is decent when they have them in stock. Sometimes they run out if there is a sale. They do have the best sandwich rolls there in their bakery to take home, not the sandwich counter. The rolls don't have preservatives so they mold if not refrigerated during the summer after a day or two. All in all it could be a lot better, but if you go in with low expectations and try to appreciate the 'Charm'. And stick to prepackaged foods you will come out pleased. If you are a frequent shopper at places like Whole Foods or Bristol Farms this place is not for you. read more

I went for the second time this weekend and I think it will probably be my last. The place is soooooooooo COLD that it's to the point of unbearable. I thought it was maybe just the last time but in asking the workers even they say it's like that all the time. I could not wait to get outside and I swear once i walked out it was instant temperature change. Horrible. In addition the workers are not very friendly. Why don't I like this store? Because they close early at 10pm. During the day their small parking lot is jammed and it is difficult to find a spot. This store is about half the size of other Von's. I must say i am disappointed in my last visit. I bought a pound of meat at the deli and she over charged me $4 by inputting the wrong product. And the cheese i got... Its all stuck together and i am pulling crumbles off instead of a slice! To top it off i bought some plastic bowls, to find out that someone had already opened it up took a few bowls out and used a twist tie to close it back. Plus when checking out the conveyor belt didn't even work so each customer had to slowly push their items down as the cashier rang up. Extreamly disappointing visit. read more

I've been coming to this Vons for 10+ years. I come in at least 3 times a week in the evenings and order a tuna sandwich. The staff is always nice and friendly, and even though the deli produce (tomatoes, red onions, etc) is often times soggy, I usually don't have any major complaints because I understand that's an occurrence of cut vegetables. I highly value this Vons. However, today when ordering my sandwich the staff informed me that there is now a $1 charge on "extra" toppings. The sandwiches are now limited to two of everything which is absurd! Two pickles barely cover half of the bread! TWO sliced PEPPERONCHINIS?? Same for tomatoes. It takes 3 (non overlapping) tomatoes to cover a sandwich. I'm now expected to pay multiple dollars more for soggy produce to complete a basic sandwich?! I'm shocked and disappointed that this grocery store- a staple in this community- is now up-charging for basic sandwich toppings. I don't appreciate being taken advantage of. read more
