He has helped me keep my old Altima on the road for years, and also services my mom's Honda. Pep boys quoted me at 180 for the A/C service and Volkers only charged me 120 I'm glad I came here because there was no wait to get service. I've been going to Jay for YEARS and realize that I have not updated my review in quite a while. He takes care of my car, my wife's car, my in-laws, and several friends. He is knowledgeable and honest. He absolutely will NOT try to sell a customer work that is not necessary. Although he specializes in German and Japanese cars, he can work on just about anything including older vehicles. Reading some of the other reviews I noticed one which complained that the final cost was higher than the quote over the phone. Any fair-minded person should understand that it is impossible to diagnose a problem over the phone. Sometimes when a car is being repaired other issues can be discovered. Jay will always explain and show the customer what needs to be done. He does great work for a fair price which is sadly is harder to find these days. I trust him to work on the vehicles that we use to drive our child. That is the highest recommendation. read more

My 2008 BMW Z4 would not start. I knew it wasnt the battery since its pretty new and based on the sounds I was guessing it was the starter. I live only across the street but still had to tow my car over. I called them beforehand and asked if they had time to work on my car the same day and replied yes. Not too long after I dropped it off they called me back and confirmed it was the starter that needed to be replaced. They were able to finish work on my car the same day. I got a quote before they did the work and in the end it was slightly lower than the quote which is always good! I asked if they offer military discount and they do! I got 10% off labor. I have my 2005 VW Jetta that has had several issues over the years. The last time was an issue that NOBODY could diagnose. My husbands work (DT) does a lot of work with Poway Accurate Automotive and we took my car their first. Boy was I pissed to say the least! After replacing several parts and spending over $800 when I picked the car up on the way home it died out again and the check engine light came back on. Finally I took it in to Volkers and found they were the only ones able to give a proper diagnosis for my check engine light and found out why it kept dying out all the time. I spent less than $200 and she has driven like a champ since then with no further issues. I will say that the person on the phone I have spoken with previously 2 times was a little rude and off standing which made me not want to come in and use their service. I have not ever regretted doing so though and I am just so happy that they have been able to properly diagnose and fix my baby!! read more

My vehicles have always been fixed properly the first time, and I have never had to return here for the same problem. I have taken both of our VW's to Volker's just recently. I can say this with honesty; I feel as if they take an honest approach when repairing vehicles and they keep an open dialogue with their customers. The first time I took my GTI to Volker's they had the lowest price by far and completed a tedious/labor intensive job within a days' time. (Timing belt, water pump.) The second time they performed routine maintenance on our Touareg with short notice and with an extremely short turn-around time. (Tire rotation, balance, air filter, cabin filter, oil change.) The most recent visit was the most impressive. I had called and told Jay my problem. He had stated that they were really busy and didn't know if they would have time. I told him time wasn't an issue and he could take as long as he needed. However, he took my car, diagnosed the problem and had it back to me in the same day. The car needed no repairs and Jay had only charged me $20.00. He could have easily charged me a 1 hour minimum, but instead he kept it honest. (Grinding coming from front break. Turned out to be a rock stuck between break pad and rotor.) I will never look elsewhere for a mechanic as long as I have a VW. As for complaints/low stars for slow turn-around time or Volker's alwasy being busy: I would rather have my completed correctly, even if that means I have to wait a few days. read more

Came in Friday for a tune-up on my Passat, fair pricing, from what I can tell they did a great job on my car. They gave me an estimate on the phone before starting repairs for the total cost (to get my a-ok to start working-which I appreciated) however that estimate ended up being much, much lower than the actual cost (roughly a $100 difference and 50% more than they quoted me) and I definitely wish I could have had the warning to be prepared to pay the actual amount. I'll likely come back, and will still recommend them, but I recommend being more assertive about asking the actual cost upfront. read more
