This was our first visit. We found out where the straws and utensils were from another person dining in. Even though you can eat inside, there is no inside service. They call your number and you come get your pizza. Overall the pizza wasn't bad but the sauce needs more taste. There was just something missing in the sauce for it to have flavor. read more

Volcano is a staple and has been the same since I was a kid which is amazing. They keep it simple yet it's so good, not heavy like a lot of pizza you don't feel stuffed and overly full after eating. Great staff I've never had a problem, theres seating inside and out they keep it clean and nice. It might be mediocre to some but nostalgic to most and I love the place always! read more

The pizza was average a little pricey. And who still has paper bags for pizza even little Caesars discontinued that in the 90s. For the amount I spent, I should've had it delivered and fed to me in bed. Staff was extra friendly. Which is a nice touch these days. Still didn't leave a tip. Are you supposed to pick up takeout? I love Volcano Pizza It's lighter than most pizza. I can eat half of a large pizza by myself and really don't want to share any of my half. So order enough. I moved to BC in 1971 and it was our pizza of choice. I now live in Grand Rapids MI and make special trips to BC just for a Volcano pizza. Thank you for always making a fantastic pizza. read more

Under New Ownership Pizza is still good. Good crust, sauce and cheese, but the price. Dear sweet baby Jesus! We ordered the largest pizza which is supposed to be 14". We measured it. It was only 12". We paid for a14" volcano special $25.75 sorry but I'm not paying that much for a 12" pizza. That's highway robbery if you ask me. I can get a 16" pizza from Pizza Sam's for considerably less. Sorry new owners of Volcano Pizza, but if you can't lower your prices you're probably not gonna make it. read more

We have wanted to try Volcano for years and were never been able too under old owners. The hours didn't work for us but if this is the same recipe as original I don't get it. The staff was super friendly and flavor isn't the worst but I paid $43 with tip for 2 12" pizzas that were at best on par with Tombstone or Jacks. Unfortunately we will probably not be going back unless prices are brought to a realistic level. read more

I have not been here since 1987. Still damn good pizza as I remembered it. I wish this COVID-19 crap was not happening, I really wanted to dine inside. My only complaint is they do not have a sign out front telling you they are cash only. So I stood there for 45 minutes waiting then had to take off to get cash to pay for it. And of course they are only open for the summer. Darn it. Buy a few and freeze them. read more

Surprisingly one of the best pizzas I've had. The only problem is that they just can't stay open. I don't get why they aren't open all year. Pretty stupid. Plus the owner is very rude. A family tradition that's worth continuing! Sometimes it's tough to catch this place open, but when you do you should definitely try it. Pretty standard pizza menu and prices, compared to most other local pizza places here. Not much for ambience, I usually take my order to go. I'm a big fan of the crust here, it's pretty tasty. I've driven by this place many times the past couple of years and I never could figure this place out. You never really see any cars in front, the buidling itself is a small non descript place that doesn't look anything like a pizza joint. There is this sign out front that tells you that this place does sell pizza "Volcano Pizza". Not knowing much, I went inside and ordered a 14 inch cheese, sausage and mushroom. Set me back about $14.40. As they don't take checks or charge cards, only cash will work. They told me it would take 10 minutes which gave me a chance to look around a bit. Inside is very very clean but really didn't have much ambiance. I would rather take this pizza home, which I did. Interior is this gold colored foil wall paper and about eight formica type tables. The pizza itself looked outstanding and was still piping hot when I got it home. I ate one piece and thought "this isn't bad". Sauce was a bit blander than I liked but tasty, lots of cheese and other toppings were adequate. Insane part was that once I got started, had to have more. The thing got better with each bite. By the time the night was out, I had eaten the whole honking thing. Now I am sitting here disgusted with myself for horking down a whole 14 inch pizza. But theres another part of me looking forward to the next time I get a Volcano Pizza. read more

By far the best pizza in Battle Creek - no one else is even close!! This is as no frills as it gets, very few toppings to choose from, no booze, and they're almost never open. In fact for years we assumed it was out of business or you needed to know some sort of secret code to eat there. Turns out they're just not open on weekends - crazy for a pizza joint, but you'll quickly forgive them and adjust your schedule. Plus the staff is super friendly!! read more

Volcano Pizza has been around town for a long time. Like since my grandparents were young. It's a favorite for locals. The pizza is very very thin. I can eat an entire pizza all by myself without much effort. I love their pizza because it's different from all the other places nearby. They're pretty light on the sauce but I personally prefer that. They're cheesy is wonderful and the toppings are always yummy. It is a little pricy and they don't take anything other than cash. However this place is a staple and consistently really yummy. You just have to know going in that it's gonna be a bit more than the average pizza place. My hubby and I were excited to try this place after reading reviews. We try to support local small businesses. The pizza was good but not extraordinary. We ordered a 3 topping medium pizza, pepperoni, black olives and bacon. I think this place is way over priced, we paid $18 for that pizza. They don't accept debit or credit cards which is an inconvenience for most. The size of the pizza was small and even with two of us eating, there was only enough leftovers for one lunch. Overall, I will continue to pick Jets or Papa Murphys for future pie purchases since it is more economical and I always have leftovers to use for lunches during the week. read more

My family took a chance on Volcano Pizza after driving by it for several years. I ordered a 14" cheese pizza for my three young children (7, 6, and 5) and a 14" four topping (veggie) for my wife and I. We usually end up with left overs for lunch the next day with other local pizza joints. The cost was $34 dollars which is on the high side for our city. Walking in was the moment I should have turned around and pretended I was lost. Very out of date decor and a bit run down. The place was full (20 people) so I figured it would be good. The staff seemed friendly and stated that my pizza was almost ready. Once out of the oven, the pizza was cut with large scissors, topped with a piece of plastic, and then placed in a paper wrapper which ended up pulling a lot of toppings off when serving it at home. If you do decide to eat at Volcano Pizza get the 12" to help avoid the cheese and toppings sticking to the paper. The pizza was about 1/16th of an inch thick with no sauce and little cheese. The toppings and the flavor were good (reason for two stars) but the overall amount was disappointing. Good luck Volcano Pizza. I am glad to read that other people enjoy your pizza. read more

We call this place where the pizza nazi works for some reasons - no credit cards or delivery and doesn't open on weekends. I can't imagine the business this place would get if they'd start changing things up. Don't bother eating inside if you're looking for a sit down meal, it's about the size of a large bathroom. Grab your pizza and enjoy somewhere because this will blow your mind. Traveling through Italy, volcano is the closest to authentic pizza you can get. Super thin, greasy and amazing. Order extra sauce and you're foolproof. read more

I've been eating at Volcano since I was allowed solid food. My grandparents lived close by in Springfield (Lou and Martha Chilton), and raised me on their Large Ham Pie. First, you have to appreciate their history, being in operation since the 1950's, and a decor to prove it. Remember that gold wallpaper with trains, and scenes from 1776? Perfectly preserved example. Volcano serves pizza New Haven Style, which is correctly referred to as "apizza". Apizza is a chewy, somewhat sloppy pie loaded with olive oil, and boasts a crunchy thin crust with a little charring of the crust and the bottom of the pie. They cut the pie the old fashioned way; instead of even slices, you get the straight cut, which leaves four little mini wedges for your little people (or the little people in you). There is magic in the sauce, which is beautiful big tomato, sometimes chunks of tomato, and is complimented perfectly with a nice cheesy olive oil explosion, which gives it a unique taste. Forgive me if you are jewish, but there is magic in their ham pie. Just ham. My cousin Darren claims that you can't order anything but ham... not even to split the pizza in half with different ingredients b/c of the contamination factor. It's crazy, but he is right. I've had many of their other pies in the US and EU, and I've yet to fall in love like I have with the volcano ham pie. My wife ranks it above Pepe's in New Haven, which nearly qualifies her as the antichrist. I'd rank it top 10 in the world of apizza. Couple o' downsides. They aren't open on Saturday and Sundays. What iconic pizza place is closed on the weekend? I can't tell you how many times I've rushed there on a Friday night to score. They are good about letting you order ahead though. Back to downsides... They are also known to be gone for long vacations, and are hardly open for a holiday. They could take their iconic pie to the next level if they were open more often. Lastly, they serve boring soda beverages. A place with this kind of character can do better than chucking cans of coke and sprite. How about some microbrewed sodas? Take a trip to New Haven, and learn about Foxon Park sodas, and bring them home. That's my rant. I may buy this dive someday, and take her to the next level. Even with a few downsides, I can't bring myself to rank them less than a 5 star. Go get a Volcano ham pie, and thank me later. read more

Best Pizza anywhere !! They used to be on Michigan Ave. many years ago...I remember my Dad taking me there for a special treat. Best Pizza in town!! Been eating Volcano pizza since I was 12 yrs. old, and I'm 63 yrs. old now. Grew up on Eldred St. and that was the place to go. Wish they were open more would love to have a slice right now. I'm waiting Volcano my mouth is watering get back soon!! Just want to add the dough they make is so good, along with the sauce a little sweet and just the right taste you want and the cheese just stretches out with every bite yummmmy!! This is THE best pizza in Battle Creek and one of the best pizza's I have tasted period. First a few things you should know that other reviewers mentioned: 1. Walking in inside of Volcanoes Pizza is somewhat like walking into a time capsule. Although clean, it is very dated looking. I don't really mind this though because in an odd way, it adds to it's appeal. The funny thing is that I can't imagine anybody would have chosen that wall paper during the last 3 decades, yet it is in perfect condition as if they just put it up yesterday. 2. The other thing about Volcanoes is they have limited hours. Not open on the weekends (especially on Saturday..... what's up with that?) Also, occasionally they will be closed for a week for vacation. 3. Cash only! I guess with the decor and all, the owners' themselves get caught up in times past. While an inconvenience to people like me who don't carry around much cash and relies on our debit cards; I like their pizza so much that I will easily work around that. There ain't no mountain high enough to keep me from getting to you. 4. If you are dining in...... it is self-service. You order and pay for your your pizza, walk over to a cart in the dinning area and get your plates and silverware, get seated and they call you to the window when your pizza is ready. Now to the pizza..... It is awesome! It has a very distinct taste to it; a very subtle sweetness, the sauce has a hearty tomato taste, and the crust is thin and tasty. Volcanoes pizza is the type of food that you perpetually need "just one more bite of" so that you can try and pin point the flavors you taste. I typically don't consider pizza to be a complex tasting food, but Volcanoes is the exception to that. It's like a party in my mouth. read more
