I have been enjoying this pizza since I was 16yrs old. I'm now 40 and the food is just as amazing as it was back then. I have been coming here regularly, take out and dine in. The food recipe is the same and imo the best forever, the service is always friendly no matter who the staff is throughout the years. The pizza is pretty good. Asked for extra cheese and they are not shy about adding extra cheese; there was so much cheese lol. Thin crust, which I like. Not a fan of the long shredded ham but that's just a personal preference. The cheese bread as very underwhelming; I expected more and you can see from the pic. On a long road trip, just in town for the night, needed to grab a quick meal and pulled into Pizza Sam's. Very cool, hole/in-the wall pizza eatery. There were x3 behind the counter, my order was taken a minute into my visit. Medium with peppers, onions, sausage & mushrooms, a Chicago-toppings staple pizza take-out order. I was told 20min., about what I expected. Of course as soon as I'd paid by tapping my phone on their technological up-to-date merchant service system (always grateful when I don't have to run out to my car to grab my wallet), I realized I'd forgotten the mandatory jalapeños. I took my phone out to pay and the guy just shook his head, the late entry tipping was on the house, very thoughtful. I sat done on the available bench and in only "10 min" I was told it was ready. Lastly, and most importantly, back at the hotel room to dig in, I was more than pleasantly pleased with how AMAZING the pizza was. Crispy crust, not too much sauce, and tons of fresh toppings. We have been on the quest for the cheesiest pizza, and generally tell places to "Cheese us to death, without compromising the pizza's structural integrity." We have gotten some pretty lackluster responses, including blank stares and "yeah, we can do double cheese". As soon as we started placing our order, the pizza engineers came running over and began enthusiastically discussing the physics of creating our pizza. They nailed it! Not only was this pizza the cheesiest, it still had fantastic sauce and they somehow manage to keep the crust crispy under the pounds of cheese they piled on. Took my SO to my old high school pizza place while visiting Battle Creek. Place looks exactly the same as I remember and pizza remains what I remember. This is a pizza, sandwich place and you can order take out (probably majority of their business). Or order at the counter and they will bring it out. They sell soda by bottle or have fountain. A few basic salad options. The pizza is very cheesy, the sauce is a balance of sweet with a hint of spice. The crust is thick enough to support the generous topping and crispy. Situated across the street from D'Nicio's Parlour BC on Columbia, this pizza parlor has often grabbed our attention because of the stream of cars coming and going from its parking lot. So we decided to check it out tonight. The counter, food prep areas, and ovens are immediately on your left as you enter. There is ample seating to the right (booths) or at the back (tables). The interior of the building seemed dated but was clean. We ordered a medium with pepperoni, ground beef, mushrooms, and green peppers. As we waited, we saw that the bulk of this pizza parlor's business is take out. The pizza arrived hot. The thin crust pizza came piled with the 4 ingredients, sauce, and cheese. There were 8 good sized slices. I thought a slice would collapse under its own weight, but the crust kept the slice intact. I can't say that the crust or the sauce had a signature taste. My girl thought the crust was stiffer and chewier and the sauce was spicier than most but I thought both were rather tame. The ingredients we ordered for the pizza were ample. We were not cheated here. This pizza parlor appears to have many loyal locals. For us, living elsewhere, we would never make this a destination spot. The pizza tasted like pizza we've had from other Mom & Pop joints throughout the US. And while there isn't anything wrong with that, it just isn't worth seeking because it is everywhere. Pizza Sam's pizzas are about convenience and quantity rather than quality (or, to put it another way, this is the pizza joint for you if the amount of food that you can quickly get your hands on and consume is a bigger priority than the food having a unique flavor profile). We decided that this was the type of Mom & Pop place we would stop again if we were traveling on I-94 and were deliriously hungry and it was late and most of nearby restaurants were closed or closing and the usual late nite offenders (McDonalds, Dennys) just simply had no appeal - then we'd eat a pizza here again. read more

When a 30 minute round trip isn't in the cards for my fave or if I'm driving by this place on the way home from work this establishment is an excellent family owned type, non franchise pizza provider. Thinnish style crust, tasty sauce and excellent fresh toppings round out a well balanced and enjoyable pie. (I like the little pepperonis) My favorite move is to swing by here on the way home from work on a night when I know the family will be out and nabbing a lil 9 Inch pizza loaded up with works to enjoy on my own. I came here today all set to give the place a really high rating. You see, I've been coming here since I was a wee lad and I not only have fond memories of it from that time, I also have been fairly regular as an adult as well. Having said that, my dining experiences of late have been rather poor. I don't know what has changed, but the place really seems to have gone downhill. The counter staff seems kind of shaky, every table was filthy, I noticed a burnt pizza going out to a customer, and they have, the absolute shittiest pinball machine known to man in the corner, sucking the quarters out of the pockets of the unsuspecting masses. My family loves Pizza Sam's! We live in Grand Rapids now instead of Kalamazoo so our trips to Battle Creek are not as common but we always make sure to grab a pizza while we are there. Their food is so good. The staff is great. Their hours are awesome. And they stay pretty busy (because they are awesome!). The place itself is kept very clean. We have visited Pizza Sams on several occasions hoping to find a saturday evening pizza place. The pizza has been meh to ok, crust is cardboard, hard and tasteless but it has always come out hot with fresh toppings. To us we were looking for the dining experience where we were looking for a place to gather with 1 or 2 friends over pizza. Over the half a dozen visits we have made here we have come to the conclusion that if the owner is here, service is good. Once he leaves or if he isn't in, his kitchen staff are moody, irritable, rude, and nasty . The kitchen staff really seem to hate customers and don't realize customers are why they have jobs by bringing them business and tips. It doesn't matter if you are quiet, not bothering anyone, clean or ordering food. Don't ever stay 1 minute past 11pm, even if they stay open til 1am and have asked permission from the owner. The wait staff are the dining room Nazis and will drive you out rudely. read more

The menu they offer is a bit limited, but for a small shop, they offer many types of good combination pizzas, subs and bread sticks. This is pizza place is a very good find in Battle Creek. It was my first time here and I have lived in the area for three years. The staff were super friendly and were fast as it was pretty busy when I visited. We ordered two 9'' pizzas and barely touched half because how big they were. We tried the all meat and the bbq chicken pizzas and were very pleased with the quality. For the price the pizzas had a lot of toppings. Tried this place on a take out order recently and it's really not a bad pizza. Strong point is the hand tossed crust, this was crisp on the bottom and had a bit of chewiness to it. They don't skimp on the cheese either. Down sides? They do use canned mushrooms the sausage that they use is that rabbit turd pellet type sausage that seems to be going round in these parts. You're better off avoiding the sausage and going with one of the other meats. The pie they make has plenty of toppings and is pretty inexpensively priced. I got a Sam's Special which has pepperoni, mushrooms, green olives, onions and green pepper. A 16 incher for under 18 bucks. The green olives were a bit overwhelming at first, but then I started to get into it. Pizza Sams also makes a variety of sandwiches. There is a dining area, but this places seems to cater to the take out crowd. While not "fantastic pizza", it's got enough going for it to draw a loyal clientele. read more
