We never miss coming here when we are on Big Island Ira Ono has made this place an Artful retreat which helps support local artists. FYI an excellent cafe on premises too!

This was a unique place. Everywhere you look, there is something to see. Make sure to look for the pine tree cathedral out in the yard, and say hi to the adorable bunnies in their pen. Ira Ono and his staff are there to greet you as you walk through the door. We were offered a glass of wine while we walked through. I thought it was so cool that they encourage you to handle the art. My group left there with a huge pile of goodies to bring home for friends and family. I also appreciated that the whole place is filled with local Hawaiian art. So many other places are filled with stuff that was made in China, and just doesn't have that authentic feel. I will definitely be back to this place next time I'm in the area.

Aloha I recently relocated to Volcano and word around the town was to visit the Volcano Garden Arts Sancturay of Ira Ono. So, I did! I was enchanted by the mystical gardens and places to creatively play and hear children's laughter echo. This is not just a "tourist destination", it's a local artistic hub for creative individuals to come together and play like children laughing. After meeting Ira Ono, I was invited to participate in the community writer's group. I could not have felt more welcomed into the Volcano community. It's hard relocating. I called upon Pablo Neruda and "lifted up my roots" seeking a place to root again. Ira's hub of creative people of all kinds (culinary included) is helping me establish my roots in Volcano. This is truly a place of enchantment both for tourists and locals. A glimpse of true Hawaiian creative community. Thank You Ira Ono. Mahalo, Vittorio...

What a beautiful spot -- worthy of lunch, shopping or just a moment's peace. Our guide with Nui Pohaku Adventure Tours brought us to Volcano Garden Arts as part of our cruise excursion, and I'm so glad he did! Upon entering the cottage-size gallery, we met owner Ira Ono, an artist who made several of the items in the shop. He explained his goal behind Volcano Garden Arts and a bit about his path with his art. Fun fact: Ono was chosen to make the ornament representing Hawaii for the White House Christmas tree. His ornament depicted an iiwi bird, whose feathers were made from old Hawaiian postage stamps. The small shop is overflowing with goodies, and the prices aren't too steep. It has art, jewelry, accessories and other fun knick knacks. I ended up buying small containers of Hawaiian sea salt, among a few other things. But the jewel of Volcano Garden Arts is its grounds. They feature a soothing fountain, and the entire area is full of colorful plants, trees and flowers. It was a joy to wander aimlessly and take in the beauty. Small statues dotted the landscape. And in the back of the yard was a giant rabbit in an enclosure -- the gallery pet, perhaps! Our guide set up lunch for us in a private, tented area. There was so much shade that it was the epitome of comfort. But if you haven't brought lunch with you, Volcano Garden Arts also has a small cafe with sandwiches, desserts and coffee. The Big Island has small spots of beauty, and this is one of them!

Please do not leave without visiting this garden. We had lunch at One cafe and then walked the garden to view the art, the Buddha's and much more. You will not leave here not feeling relaxed, calm and at peace. This garden has inspired me to add more to my garden at home. A must visit! Say hi to noble the rabbit for me.
