If you visit the volcano park make sure you won't forget to visit the art gallery. It will surprise you. It will hooked you. It will truly made you admire the talent of these local artists from the island. Indeed it is one of the best way to support local. Various glass artist to painters and photographers, all showcase their talent here. The work and dedication they put will reflect on how their talent drawn your emotion. This art center gallery is also a way of understanding the historical background of the volcano park. There were seven rooms and each are filled with various artworks and crafts. Several procedures are being impose; wear face covering while inside, six feet distance from other people & no more than four people occupy small rooms at one time. The staffs are pretty friendly and efficient as well. We did enjoy the mini self tour and ended up buying some holiday post cards and glass decorative for our tiki nest. Highly recommended to pay a visit in here! Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow yeeps!

The art gallery is very quaint and the staff was really nice. They featured local artists and have items that are more affordable, $50 and up. There was a small sculpture garden and they were interesting too. They also had a yarn or crochet (?) feature that was incorporated in the building and that was really lovely. There's also a small pathway if you'd like to take a look and since it's their administrative office they're not open as much as the other gallery inside volcanoes national park. It's somewhat child friendly and there's a few restaurants in the area so it's convenient to get to.

Beautiful vase!! I want it. It's made by a local artist.

This is a historic building where people would stay when visiting the area. There are also restrooms in an adjacent small building to the art center. We must have spent quite some time here looking through all the art. It's all done by local artists and all available for purchase. The art is strewn about all their varying rooms. I really fell in love with some of the vases. There is jewelry and scarves designed by local artists. My Sweetie noticed I was eyeing a few of them and ended buying two necklaces for me. One is a glass seahorse pendant, which cost $30 and the other is a $160 necklace that says "aloha au iā oe." Both very cute pieces! We don't mind supporting local artists. Both pieces were boxed nicely in a padded volcano center labeled box. The staff were very friendly and patient with us.

Must pay $25 to enter park in order to enter gallery, even if you drove there only for the gallery. No other way.

I was very impressed, I've been to many and this one is top notch. The seat controls appear to be disabled and it would have been great to be able to recline the seat backs. I spent most of my time in the planetarium and saw four of the five shows with visiting a few of the exhibits between showings. Of my four shows I enjoyed the interactive Panana Kilo Hoku-Our Wayfinder's Compass program the most. It was informative, educational and entertaining; led by a very professional lecturer. I'm an engineering nerd. The keiki show was mostly accurate excepting for Tycho's ears sticking out of his space suit and would explode on the moon. If you are an astronomy buff, I'd recommend staying for at least 4 hours to take in the shows and exhibits. You can also have a great meal at the restaurant, which I reviewed separately. I saved the last show and the exhibits for the next visit, definite repeat. This would also be an excellent place to visit between your hotel checkout and late flight back to the mainland.

The big draw was the fire show which originated in Samoa. The first three rows are premium seating. We sat in row 2 by the stage. The venue is very small so all seats would have sufficed. There was a woman blocking my view of the stage. So much for premier seating. Although premier seating included a fresh orchid lei and a box of shortbread cookies from Big Island Candies of Hilo. And first in line to the buffet dinner. There's an open bar. I had a red wine which I didn't care for as the wine sat out in the Hawaiian heat. There's spirits, mixed drinks, sodas, and mocktails available. The luau - the Kalua pig is cooked in an imu onsite. You can watch the pig being unearthed at the luau. If you've never seen it done, it's a very authentic experience. There was a live band followed by the hula show. The show represented the Polynesian islands. It concluded with the fire show which was the highlight. Next time we'll sit in the general seating area since it's a small venue located at the Marriott.

My kids thank God we're free, age 5 and under are free. I have gone to 4 luaus, 2 in Oahu and 2 in maui and although I know generally all luaus are kind of the same I wanted to see how Big island threw there luaus. It was a good luau, the dancers were all very good and enthusiastic. Total of 6-8 dancers. The fire show and the haka part stole the show. All of the dancing was generally entertaining. The food was buffet style and the food was actually pretty good. They had a wide variety of food including some fish, steak and the pork they showed in a ceremony how to cook. They have someone take professional pictures for you and that vendor was very kind and took their time to get the perfect picture, one hard copy photo and the digital download is $40 plus tax. The bar is open bar and they have every possible drink that isn't blended. The drinks were super strong and good and the bartenders were nice as well. I will say I saw some comments saying the guests and people walking by can view some parts of the show from the side etc but that's just really ghetto lol I mean u can't help that but it's just not the same bc ur just watching from the dancers back and a weird view. Luaus are generally meant maybe once in a lifetime, but I do love learning about the culture and traditions and dancing of Hawaii. It is very expensive, but generally a good show. It's not one of the best luaus I've been to, but it's not horrible. I wish there were more activities for people before the actual show, they only had one hula person teach like a 6 min hula. Also side note if you ask the servers about your kids you can ask for pizza or chicken fingers and fries on the side for them, they don't let you know that prolly to save money lol but I knew beforehand to ask.
