We ordered the 5 Colour Vermicelli Bowl and it was missing the meatballs and most of the noodles. My son got the green onion cakes and said they tasted old and looked different than they usually do. I had the vegetable spring rolls. Not sure if they're frozen but the texture of the filling was weird. The absolute worst dish was the Ginger Beef. Gristly meat and no sauce. We've only somewhat liked it but this time it wasn't even edible. I gave 2 stars only because of the friendly staff. This they get right.

I ordered a blended durian smoothie, an order of shrimp salad rolls and a green onion cake. The durian smoothie was a tad on the watery side, but tasted as what I would expect. The salad rolls were average. They consisted of lettuce, noodles and shrimp. There was a generous amount of peanut sauce. The onion cakes were also average. I saw it all over Edmonton at different restaurant menus and finally decided to try it. It was a freshly fried. There was barely any green onion and just tasted okay. I did not understand the popularity. I think I need to try a few more options elsewhere to compare as I was underwhelmed. Service was efficient and food arrived quickly. No complaints on the service. There was ample parking in the plaza.

Tao Signature offers a variety of Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Thai dishes. The first thing…read moreyou will notice is how upscale the place looks when you walk in. This is one of the rare times you will find a greeter in an Asian restaurant. The lobby is huge, and the dining area is very sleek - low lighting (but not too low) with rich colours. The menu, while not huge, offers a good variety for anyone who enjoys Asian cuisine. You'll find noodle soups and vermicelli bowls, grilled meat dishes, tempura, and Chinese standbys like lemon chicken and ginger beef. We decided to order off of the special lunch menu. I had grilled beef with rice - although listed on the menu as having steak sauce, the dish has been changed to lemongrass. What I got was essentially a small steak that was grilled to perfection, slicked and served with a mound of rice. The meat was tender and flavourful, if not a little too salty. The rice was plain and somewhat dry, which was remedied with soy sauce that our enthusiastic server quickly brought when asked. My companion had shanghai noodles that were stir fried with beef. The beef looked similar to mind - thick, juicy, and plentiful. He said his food was great, but had a little too much sauce. We started our meal with an order of vegetable tempura. The light batter was crisp and the portion was perfect to share. I loved how the sipping sauce was served in a wine glass. It is little touches like this that sets Tao Signature apart. To drink, we had Shirley Temples (I have never had one and wanted to try it), one of the many non-alcoholic beverages available. There is also an extensive drink list. Lunch specials are served until 4 p.m. and come with wonton soup. Most of the dishes on the menu are reasonably priced but slightly higher than in price than other Asian places (for example, a bowl of pho is around $9 rather than $7). However, you are paying for quality, service, and ambiance. Tao Signature is definitely a must-visit if you are looking for and Asian dining experience in the west end. I would even recommend this as a destination spot. The food, service, and place itself was remarkable.

I tried the ginger beef, spring rolls and pork balls, they were all fantastic. The restaurant is definitely Westernized but I don't hold that against them. You would be hard pressed to find a fully authentic restaurant anywhere. I have had better food at other places but this place is not bad at all and I have nothing against western flavor. It is not expensive at all and the service was fine. I also heard that they might open a sushi bar soon so I think I will definitely try this place again.

Staff won't allow happy hour specials at discounted price despite being in happy hour time frame. Hoang long is a modern clean space with bamboo accents and a newly renovated area. There is a large patio out front for summer. But it being closed off made the entrance kinda blending in. I was looking for the entrance and walked right by it. Trying to figure out how you get in is a slight challenge. As the door blends in so well and it appears it's just the patio. But that's the entrance. I visited quite early during happy hour at around 6pm. The place was entirely empty except for staff which was slightly disheartening. But I'm sure this place is bustling during the lunch hours. Wait staff were slow to greet me so I sat myself and grabbed my own menus. The menu Is vast. A huge range of thai and vietnamese foods. From soups, sandwiches, grilled meats and stews. Looking through the menu was overwhelming but at least there is something for everyone. We decided on trying the chicken satays with peanut sauce. These were a famous item popular during the taste of edmonton. They did not disappoint. They charred them so nicely I could hear the fire crackling in the dead of winter. But the best part was the peanut sauce. They don't provide this during the taste of edmonton. But it brings the dish to new heights. I would say...stick to the grilled meats here. They don't disappoint. I throughly enjoyed my bun bo hue. It was authentic and tasty. It made my list for top 5 in edmonton for sure. Portion was perfect and the ratio of meats and noodles were just right. Another great dish. My only vice was that it was happy hour...advertised from 3-7pm. But the staff would not allow discounted prices despite it only being 6pm. They had decent options like wine, beer or a customized cocktail for $4. The server states happy hour is over despite it clearly stating it is until 7pm on the menu. I point to the board and he says it's full price. Whatever. I don't like misrepresentation on menus. And discrepancys are misleading. For this I minused a star. Service was haphazard. I seated myself. Got my own condiments and even got my own drinks. I had to go to the counter to order my food and pay at the register. All the server did was put the food on my table and clean it up afterwards. The whole process downgraded the whole modern vibe to more of a cafeteria style establishment. I felt jipped tipping bc i basically served myself. So minus another star. Overall. The food was great. Slightly overpriced. But the atmosphere reflects the price in the heart of downtown. Service was okay but the whole happy hour misrepresentation was a huge turnoff. I won't ever be buying drinks here in the future. Bc hey...they don't follow the advertised prices on the menu. It's decent. I would revisit if I am in the area. But it definetly won't be a go to place that I would drive to if I was hungry.

Inside there was just one table occupied but there is a decent amount of seating for the lunch time crowd. It seemed cleaned. The combos they offer are a rice or noodle (pad thai that didn't look very appetizing) and then up to 3 or 4 items. The food was under heat lamps so I could see what the options were. I decided to get the fried rice and a few items. I choose a chicken first and looked at the other items before deciding on the vegetables with cashews. The woman serving me had the rectangle take out container about 2/3 full and she kept suggesting food such as the green beans and then the sweet and sour pork. Both didn't look very appetizing. I think she was hoping I would pay for as much food to get rid of since the lunch time crowd had passed but she wasn't generous with the quantity. I decided on the beef skewer and then was done. At half price I paid $7.35. I brought the food home and heated it up. I liked the beef skewer but the rest of the food wasn't very good. The food tasted greasy and I had to use my fingers to eat the chicken was it had lots of bones. I'm not sure if it's from this food, but I didn't feel well after. Definitely would not pay $14 for the food I had as lots of other great restaurants around. It would probably be better to go during the lunch hour when the food is hot and fresh but I'll pass next time I'm in the area.

They are offering a free appetizer for the month of March with a minimum purchase. The menu is a bit sparse currently but she noted that a full menu will be coming shortly. We opted for the following: Large Spicy Beef Noodle Soup for $11.95 - raw beef steak, shank, and pork sausage. Hubs devoured this - flavorful and filing. The normal plate of bean sprouts, basil, and hot pepper also had mint and culantro. The noodles used in this dish are of a thicker variety. The spice was good but we could easily handle more. There is sriracha on the table and they will bring you additional options such as hot chili oil. Charbroiled Lemon Grass Beef for $11.95 - on vermicelli or rice with 2 spring rolls. Clean cuts of meat (she brought some chicken because they were didn't have enough beef). Lovely spring rolls and dichon (?) and mint instead of usual basil. Shrimp & Pork salad rolls for free today (regularly $6). The shrimp were the LARGEST I've ever had in a salad roll aside from when we make them at home.
