Hired this company to figure out why a number of outlets were not working. The two technicians that arrived were young and you could tell that they were in the early stage of their careers. After 2-3 hours of evaluation they said the problem was fixed but could not fully pinpoint the cause or problem. They write up the paperwork for $370 for the services and prepare to leave so I test out the outlets and after 5 seconds of use they were non-functioning. I luckily caught the techs before they left and told them that they hadn't fixed the problem. After another hour of testing, they actually found the issue and corrected it. I asked if the total would change based on the extra time but they assured me that it would only increase by about $15. However, the office had a new total of $430, so that was another surprise. At the end of the day, the problem was fixed but it relied on me supervising the technicians work and the mishap with the total charges was handled poorly. read more

My experience with VMA electric was calling to get an idea of replacing a few light fixtures. I had no idea if the electrical wiring to the outside needed to be repaired but was quoted a price which I thought was an estimate because clearly the project would be more/less expensive based on what the electricians found. Even the invoice said "estimate" so having not hired may electricians I was under the false impression that the work would be based on the time spent. The work went quick and completed under two hours which I again falsely believed was well under the over $500 dollars they billed. So, the owner informed me I was completely wrong, and I did not sign an estimate but an agreed upon price. I was really disappointed because there was no issues with the electrical just needed to place new fixtures and I paid an arm and a leg for their time. No consideration that it only took them 1.5 hours but hey "YOU signed a contract right". I guess lesson learned and I paid this contractor but felt like I was raked over the coals. The young electricians did a fine job although were quite messy and did not remove some items that were left on the ground. I guess mostly it was my fault for not understanding how these businesses function or signing what I thought was an estimated cost. I would not use this contractor in the future. Also, very defensive when I discussed the "contract", but I think the owner felt better having educated me that it was completely my misunderstanding and I was wrong. read more

VMA is incredibly responsive, efficient, and reliable. They are very communicative and their work is exactly what it should be when you come up with a plan. They are knowledgeable about permits and local building laws. Matt has come to our house multiple times for projects and he is very knowledgeable and gives good suggestions- we feel very safe with him coming to the house when we are not there. He provided a fair and reasonable price for the services to be performed. Victor is a great guy and you immediately feel you know he will do a good job on your project. Lorrayne, who runs the office, is a rare example of someone in this day and age who know how to give excellent customer service and make her customers happy. She answers phone calls and emails immediately and is so polite and helpful. The two men who came to do the actdual work, Matt and Tyler, were excellent - they are consummate professionals - considerate, clean and hard workers. They worked from early morning until late afternoon every day and finished my project a day early. We have used VMA twice this year. VMA was recommended by our contractor, who we very much trust. VMA did a smaller job of putting in outdoor lights on our deck and switching a few outlets in our first need for work. We felt like they did a fine job there at a reasonable price, which seemed fair. At the time, we wanted to have much more extensive work done with lighting timers and more, but they said it couldn't be done due to ancient knob and tube wiring, which is very complex and a potential safety hazard. (others had told us this was involved also & not so simple). VMA returned this summer for a far more extensive job, updating all of our electricity in our 1888 Victorian including outlets, a new panel, installing overhead lighting, closet lighting, lighting timers and more. They dealt with ensuring that the knob & tube was not connected. It was not cheap, but we felt that VMA offered a fair price and did a lot of work for their money in an efficient manner. We found EVERY person from VMA who stepped foot in our house was professional, friendly & nice. While I am not an electrician, of course, their work seemed to be of very high quality and error free. Everything has been working fine since they were here. VERY IMPORTANTLY, VMA showed up when they said they were going to both for an estimate as well as do the work. That was definitely not always the case with others we contacted for the work. We would use them again and definitely recommend them. I also will say that we have ONLY a professional relationship with VMA, so we have no benefit from this posting. read more

VMA did a complete electrical panel upgrade from 100 to 200 amp service, and 10 grounded outlets installed in a number of rooms. They were extremely professional and very responsive. They were patient with all of our questions about the requirements for this kind of job, and were able to help us better understand and get comfortable with the process. They coordinated any necessary permits and inspections, and were very quick and clean in the house. They are able to provide accurate estimates for any electrical work needed, and the installers were both friendly and knowledgeable. We hired VMA based on the online reviews & Angie's list. VMA came multiple times & each time caused a problem. The technicians were very friendly, but ultimately did not have the experience or understanding of high end electrical systems. I was considering upgrading my lighting system & told VMA but couldn't commit without an estimate. The estimate ended up being more than I thought so we decided to wait. They suggested some changes to my Lutron system that ultimately rendered the system useless and forced a $10k upgrade anyway! I had an old Lutron system that was working fine but had some limitations. They changed the voltage on my beam lighting which caused the dimmers on the Lutron system to fail which means the lights had to be manually turned on and off (at first they couldn't even be manually turned off) as the electrical draw didn't work with the old system. As I had a first generation Lutron radio RA the parts had become obsolete and VMA tossed the original parts so the system couldn't be put back together the way it was before their recommended changes that they didn't have the sense to check compatibility first. Then when we agreed to the upgrade, the estimate was also faulty. They tried to upgrade me to a system that was second tier in Lutron (Casita) when I thought I would be getting the Radio RA. Turns out the Casita wouldn't work either b/c when they did the estimate, they didn't realize (for lack of experience and thorough investigation of what our home required) we had 80 switches and Casita only supports 64--the real upgrade is $15k! For simple jobs such as blown fuses or simply wiring the men were super friendly. Not recommended for any advanced electrical work. read more
