I got a small fry with the "oorlog" sauce which is mayo, peanut sauce, and chopped onions. It is definitely a unique combination but it works on top of the very fresh, hot fries that have been cooked to perfection. They are constantly churning out fresh batches of fries and they are a perfect Amsterdam snack.
Vleminckx continues to be my favorite frites spot in Amsterdam. It's extremely popular so expect a line and a short wait. It's counter style ordering. They have several delicious sauces to choose from and my favorite is the truffle sauce as well as the samurai which is spicy. The frites come out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's located close to shopping area. Ambiance feels like a no frill type experience. Make sure you know what you are ordering prior to getting to the front!
Vleminckx is a well know and well regarded Dutch frite shop. If you visit Amsterdam, you must get some frites. This spot is a bit off the main street, so it's quieter than other spots, but still usually has a small line. The frites are delicious. A small was enough for two of us as a small snack.
Like most Americans, we love our fries! However, Belgian fries have truly mastered this beloved snack. The difference: American fries are typically cooked in vegetable oil, while Belgian fries are double-fried in animal fat, resulting in an extra crispy texture. Vleminckx Fries are served in a cone and topped with your desired sauces. I'm more of a dipper, so I requested my sauce on the side. This spot is more of a grab-and-go place rather than a sit-down restaurant--grab your cone and enjoy your snack on the go.
Literally every tourist says this fries place is the best. Let me tell you that I had a few others and I personally don't think it's worth the wait when there are a few around Amsterdam that are simply better. Yes, you'll save like €0.80 compared to other spots and the fries themselves aren't bad, just not worth the wait. They have tons of different sauces to try, everything from samurai to curry to just plain ketchup if you wanted. Overall, they aren't bad but not worth the hype.
The best fries I had in Amsterdam. So well made. Nice and crisp on the outside but soft and mushy on the inside. They had an endless list of sauces. My favorites were spicy ketchup and sambal. Fries come in three sizes. Large was enough to share between 3-4 people depending how nice you want to be. I ended up coming here multiple times during my stay.
the fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and the sauces were delicious especially the spicy ketchup. we chose a combo of the spicy ketchup, belgian mayonnaise, and garlic sauce, which i didn't realize they would just put on top of the fries, but the combo was actually quite delicious together, just like the secret sauces many burger joints in the U.S. use.

I stopped by Vleminckx Fries for a quick snack and luckily, there was no wait. Dutch Fries are honestly phenomenal. They're crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, slightly tangy, and yet don't feel overly heavy or greasy. What makes this dense is the sauces. They put a heaping amount of sauce which I found a bit excessive but the frites sauce & truffle mayo were great for this type of fries. A quick, cheap snack - definitely swing by if you're in Amsterdam!
We came here in the rain, so there was no line. After we ordered, we went to the shopping center across the street to eat the fries. For the sauce, we went with mayonnaise- "the classic". We didn't grab the wooden forks, so we ended up with mayo on our hands. The fries were good- hot and thick. Even so, I wouldn't go out of my way for them.

You see a lot of people lined up on the streets of Amsterdam, waiting for a cone of hot French fries with sauce. I think these are meant for the "normal" eaters in the world, and not the picky princesses like me. They offer dozens of interesting sauces for your fries: curry, satay, samurai, green pepper... But me? I just got cheese sauce! I think I was dropped on my head as a baby. The fries were pretty decent, but four stars, not five as I wished they came out piping hot and fresh. Still - worth a stop. A small cone is a good size for a snack.
Vleminckx Fries lured me in all the way from the United States based on their instagram postings. That, and because this is one of the only places that we found that actually cuts the potato in house. They are not delivered frozen like some of the other fry places in Amsterdam. My husband and I shared an order and the portion was huge! We asked the guy who took our order what sauce was traditional Dutch and he pointed us towards a sauce made out of mayonnaise, peanut sauce and chopped onion. It sounded strange, but it was actually quite tasty! There are no tables to sit at, so we stood near the shop while we munched away at our perfectly cooked dutch potatoes. So good! read more

Been to three frites spots during my stay here, and this one had the most reviews. So I was guessing this had to be one of the more popular spots. Not much of a line so I got my order rather quickly. Ordered a small fries with mayo. They give your order in a paper cone and pour your sauce right on top. Makes for a nice IG pic, but you're getting a highly uneven distribution of the sauce. As for the frites themselves, they weren't as crispy and fluffy as the other spots I went to. Pros: Lots of sauces to choose from. Decent pricepoint. Cons: The frites are just OK. read more

Superlekker French fries near the Spui and Kalverstraat. I love fries but don't eat them too often. I was referred to this location by the guy who owns the pet store near my apartment. He said "it's the best" and his Uncle owns it too. Also, a couple of my Dutch neighbors tell me this is where they go for fries in Amsterdam. The best. The 29 + sauces are a daunting decision to make, but I had to go with the traditional mayonnaise (not like the mayo in the USA, it's sweeter...so good) but they have "American Mayonnaise" if you want that. These are usually not ready and made for you when you order. They cook them. They have to be "just right" I'm told. At first I thought they did this to allow people to queue out front and make these places look busier - and in demand - but it's all in how they make and prepare these potatoes. I personally think it's worth the wait. You're already in the touristy part of Amsterdam. The fries were warm and delicious. You can also choose from a variety of sauces. read more

This spot was recommended to me by a friend, so I actually built our visit into our itinerary so we wouldn't miss out on this oily, deep-fried, artery-clogging experience. So on our first day, we were walking around and realized we were closer to this location than we thought. And so began the French fry experience. The location is more of a counter with no seating. You walk up, order, pay, and wait to the side while your fries are made in front of you. I went with the basic ketchup and my cousin opted for the mayo. The small order of fries were actually huge and served as more of a meal than a snack. Both tourists and locals can be found waiting for their fry fix here. That's how you know it's good. Just wish they had a couple of tables for people to sit at considering the block they're on is pretty roomy. read more

Years ago I had a Belgian neighbor who taught me to make frites and made some for our family. Those were terrific. These fall short and we were disappointed. In our cone, we had few frites with super crispy exteriors and tender middles. The line was long and then most of us perched on unwelcoming stoops since there were no chairs or tables provided. The fries here are amazing! Just make sure you get a look at the toppings beforehand. They had over 20 and I had to choose rashly. In hindsight, I would have gotten the Mayo my mom got. read more
Read a different review from a mystery man who went to 5 fry shops and thought this was his favorite. I am so glad to eat here. #NoRegrets Indeed I went with this guys pick and I'm so glad I went. The shop closes at 7pm and pulled into the queue last minute, which 3 more people popped in line before they had to close their "curtains". Anyway, great exterior crisp, yet light fluffy potatoey goodness. These were different from most fries I had as they aren't heavy. With #13 "Oorlong" sauce, a dutch specialty, is a combo of 2 sauces mayo & peanut satay topped with chopped onions, were fantastic. Heck naked fries would be fine by me. Definitely a worthy stop in Amsterdam! If I stayed longer, I would revisit a couple more times just to try the other sauces. read more

VLEMINCKX! I dragged my friends here while in Amsterdam and they were thanking me for it. Located in an alleyway, Vleminckx fries are just different. There are many Belgian-style fry vendors throughout Amsterdam, but Vleminckx is especially delicious and they even offer ~25~ different sauces. Don't get me wrong -- the medium was a great size, but I could've eaten a large. I hopped into the 10-15 person line and waited for what felt like two minutes. Then, I ordered a medium fry with chili sauce and mayonnaise (the mayo is different than the US here BTW, in a good way!). My fries were out in less than a minute and from then on out I was in bliss. tldr: please visit here. It's an Amsterdam staple and it lived up to the hype in my opinion read more
How come I didn't review this place before? One of the better fries out there in Amsterdam... holland... Europe! For 2 euros, you get a decent size of fries that are hot, crispy, and yummy. Definitely one of the best shops out there for fries. This place is popular but I never had to wait in line for over 5-10 minutes. The key is to eat fries for breakfast! Come early and you will get your fries in no time. read more
This was the first place we had fries at. The line was long but went pretty fast. I couldn't decide which unique sauce to put on my fries, and felt pressured to hurry and make a decision, because the line was so long. I ended up thinking I would be adventurous, and try some weird sauce, bad mistake, it was not good. Next time I had fries, I just had good ole ketchup. read more
During my trip to Amsterdam, this was on my list of places to try. The line was short and the service was wonderful. The Dutch people are very blunt, you ask and you'll get an answer. I ended up getting the frites with the Mayo , and it was amazing. The fries were perfectly cooked, nice and crisp. Across the street from this place is a bar, you take you fries , sit down and order a beer. Perfect snack ! read more
These fries are worth the hype! In a cool alley in the middle of excitement, this fries restaurant is a tiny hole where you order to go! I love how many different topping options there were. I tried the mayo ketchup and diced onions topping. The fries are a pretty juicy thick size but not like steak fries. They are also hot and crisp! Make sure you have change on you. NO credit cards and exact change on you! We had no idea until after we ordered, but luckily had just enough in the purse. Ps: long line but moves fast! Part of the excitement read more

I came across this place because I saw a line of approximately 10 people. I waited in line as my wife went to the front to observe what the hype was all about. This place only sells fries. But with most things, if there is a line, that means people are probably waiting for something good. Word of advice, order the biggest size you can and don't share your fries, you'll thank me later. You'll have to pay for sauces, and they have quite a few choices. I'm not sure what they do to their fries but it is definitely the best fries I have ever eaten. It's crunchy and juicy all at the same time. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come here again next time I am in Amsterdam. read more

I noticed this Frites shop when exiting Albert Heijn. Excellent service and frites! Several choices of toppings. I chose spicey mayo.The nicest guy that works there gave me a small topping of a fancy mustard he suggested trying. It was delish! I was so happy to enjoy outside seating so I didn't have to walk to enjoy. I recommend this convenient, friendly shop! read more

Wow. What a great place to have in your arsenal after you visit a "coffee shop". The portions are huge, savory and will satisfy all cravings! Crunchy, crispy, and savory. I always get peanut sauce, onions and mayo. Yum... I am drooling as I write this review. Both times I visited Amsterdam I made this a frequent visit. This place is about a 10 minute walk from the W Hotel. Words of caution: I have seen many people try to take pictures of the fries and DROP ALL THEIR FRIES. NooooOooooOoo. It literally hurt me to see, and now you have to get back in the slightly long line. Don't be like them and hold on tight! Vleminckx Fries may be the best fries in the entire world! This not-so-secret spot will draw a crowd, but fear not, the line moves quickly! The thick cut fries are made to order so that they are always served hot and crisp. The sauces are amazing and make me question why we only pair our fries with boring ketchup in the U.S. when there are so many other great options. My husband, sister and I ordered a large fries to split as a snack. There are about two dozen different sauces to choose from. We selected the "Oorlog Special Sauce" with mayonnaise, peanut satay sauce, and diced onions. The combination sounds weird, but we all agreed it tasted amazing!!! The sauce was the perfect combination of sweet and savory with the crisp bite of the raw onions. Vleminckx Fries is one of the most affordable and tastiest dining options in Amsterdam! read more

Definitely come visit. I'm a self-proclaimed fries expert, and I thought these were bomb. You get a ton of delicious, good quality fries for your money. I got the medium order with the garlic sauce, which wasn't an easy decision as there are 25+ different sauces to choose from. The great thing about Vleminckx is they have a menu with at least 5-6 different languages on it, so you know exactly what you're getting no matter what you speak. The fries were AMAZING - freshly cooked, still hot, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The sauce was very garlic-y (so I definitely got what I paid for), and there was more than enough for the entire portion of fries. Grab a few napkins before you leave, and have a fantastic time wandering through Amsterdam with your cone of frites! read more

Our 3rd stop on our french fries tour of Amsterdam. Probably one of the most popular locations given its location to shopping and about 30 different sauces. Had their Oorlog mix (mayonnaise, satay sauce and onions). Sauce was quite good, but fries were not as crispy as I would prefer. If there is a specific sauce that you wanted to try, feel free to come here. Otherwise, I prefer the actual fries at van Wanderen nearby (they doublefry the fries right in front of you making sure that they are super crispy when served). read more
Hot, fresh, "meaty" fries. Three sizes and sauces, ketchup, mayonnaise et al, cost extra. Marci & I shared a medium with "classic" mayonnaise and a coke for 7 euros (cash only) and it was a perfect mid afternoon snack! Don't worry, the line moves pretty fast. read more
