Stopped by for a quick breakfast. Food was pretty good but service was super slow. We went inside to order at the counter and the girl told us she would come out and wait on us but it took forever for her to make an appearance. When we finally got our coffee there was no creamer so we had to wait again for that. My friend ordered the sandwich sampler which she enjoyed Three out of the four sandwich selections. My other friends got egg salad with truffle which she really liked. I opted for a simple yogurt with strawberry granola and a croissant with jam. Yogurt was a typical yogurt you buy in the store came in the cup that you opened in Port in theCan't really mess that up so it was fine. However again during our meal we never saw the server and we had to go inside and ask for our check which she replied she would bring it out to us. After waiting for another 15 minutes when she did not show up we just went inside and asked if we could pay at the counter. If you order a Small Breakfast (for about $8) they bring an organic Nutela to the table. I loved it. The first day the service was great, the second not so much. I recommend the woman waiter. On our third day there she attended us again. The second day I brought my own gluten-free bread and one slice got lost or something. We were seated on a round table which was great. Overall, I recommend it but I don't love it mostly because on the second day we weren't treated as well. PS:They also have this hazelnut creme which is really good and I recommend trying it. read more

This is the second time in 10 years that Yelp reviewers have let me down. We put in our order and received our coffee promptly but not our food. After a half hour, I asked how long it would take for our food to arrive, to which the waiter responded, "You ordered eggs and they take a long time." After another 30 minutes, I paid for the coffee and we left. I did tell a few of the staff that we were unhappy but no one did a thing to help us. The food might be good but if you never get a chance to taste it, what's the point? And I did see the restaurant 's response below. But when you complain and no one does anything to help, the problem is much deeper than a single waiter. Not a single person in the restaurant tried to help us. Perhaps no one from management was there or they were asleep. However, it is clear that the staff do not understand customer service So my one star remains. I would not go back and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

This is a great breakfast and light lunch restaurant. We stayed at the Grand Hotel down the street and found this place to be a great alternative to the hotel breakfast. The restaurant also serves great coffee and a great selection of bread. The coffee well brewed and is very flavorful. I could not stop eating bread with the chocolate spread. The servers are very friendly and the restaurant has great big windows for people watching. read more

Do not lunch here. The place is spacious. However they are stingy with the heat. It could be a few degrees warmer. Service is okay. Its a small detail but a server kid who literally throws the menu (in the form of a newspaper) to me is not a friendly welcome. I ordered the "boerenkaas gekookte ham sandwich) its eeeeeeh not what I expected. Bread is a bit sour. They should indicate that in the description. The cheese was all melted away in invisibility. So it became a ham sandwich with hardly any cheese and two thin slices of ham. Wildly overpriced I must say for a bunch of sour bread. Not good! Was really looking forward to a soft rich grilled and am a disappointed customer. Next test gonna eat half and mention it. Lets see how they deal with a complaint... Like I expected: there is no seniority working here only students. So my complaint was met with a hollow gaze and the remark "I will let "them" know...whoever them is... that's another star off. Really recommend trying this with friends, it was an amazing brunch and very filling with a lot of homemade bread. Real lived it here, tea was just like home, poached eggs and avocado on toast was my favourite breakfast, only in amsterdam did two days and came here three times!!! This place has some goods, and some bads. Let's start with the negatives: it took quite some time untill we were seated at our table, which wasn't even properly cleaned. The time between ordering and serving out of the food also took quite a long time, and it wasn't even that crowded. And finally, the prices are high in comparison to what you get. Then for the positives: the quality of the food is pretty good, honemade bread with some classics like steak tartare, vitello tonato etcetera. The beverages we had were also of high quality, good coffee and tasty smoothies. The staff -besides being slow- are really friendly. Overall the atmosphere was good and locationwise it's walking distance from some big museums. One last note: you can only pay with 'plastic' (debet- or creditcard), no cash. Not a problem for us, but I reckon that some tourist may encounter this as a problem. read more

I only went here after a suggestion of a friend after the original place we'd meet didn't serve anything for lunch that either of us liked. We arrived at peak hour and weren't in the mood to sit at a 'communal' table as we wanted to have a fairly intimate conversation. Luckily it didn't take long for a two seater to become available. The choice is wide enough, fresh juices, smoothies, teas, etc for drinks and all sorts of warm or cold types of sandwiches. The waiter was very polite and precise. It took us a fairly long time to decide what to order but never got the feeling we were being rushed due to the fact it was peak hour. Thought the sandwich itself wasn't very big it satisfied the appetite I had at the moment. And the taste was good. There are several branches of Vlaamsch Broodhuys and I assume they all have the same quality. Due to the communal table(s) the place is perfectly suitable to go by yourself and not feel 'odd' sitting alone at a table for two or more. read more

I had the double espresso here and it was delicious and had a perfect strong bitter taste. The croissants (in which I had two of) were delicious and flaky as they should be, almost as authentic as the ones in Paris. The butter that comes on the side has a great taste and look. i absolutely love this place. their products are excellent. you can their bread, applebutter and nut paste at the bakery. if you prefer, you can also sit down and have lunch. when i am with friends, we usually have the lunch for 2 option, which is easily enough for 3. salad, hummus, salmon, raisonbread, yum yum. When i am alone i like to have a bot of tea, and sometimes one of those amazing little fruit tarts. i especially adore the prune, and, when in season, the rasberry ones. A german friend swore their chocolate cake is almost as good as in Bavaria. the There Japanese inspied soups are also very, very good. All ingredients are always top quality and they tell you were everything comes from. store on the Haarlemmerstraat can get very crowded, which is why I prefer this one, close to Vondelpark. very friendly waiting staff and a nice collection of newspapers and magazines. no wifi though, although i was told they are considering it.
