Tried the affogato plain and with pistachio. Both were okay and not worth more than a 15 minute wait. The line on the left only had these 2 affogato types and the right line had more flavors.
Worth the wait in line, lives up to the hype.... Excellent affogato -- delicious strong coffee surrounded by your favorite gelato. We tried a dark chocolate and a pistachio affogato, both were amazing. Small eating area in the back or sit outside and people watch.
The pistachio affogato was very delicious. The line was so long though it probably wouldn't have been worth it if we had to wait any longer
This place has a long line outside even before noontime. They have two entrances to serve this special drinks. The dedicated counter offers more variety of ice creams. My wife found this information on YouTube and we tracked down the store after fishing the walking tour of the city. She absolutely loves it!
The hype here is real, whenever I see a viral place on social media I am always a little skeptical. However, the queue moves quickly, the staff is respectful and moves quick and most importantly the affogato is one of the best I have ever had, the gelato is perfect with the espresso. Vivoli is a cute spot tucked away but still pretty central in Florence
I heard about Vivoli from a couple of tourists whom I was standing in line with at one of Florence's historical sites. I later saw a video about the same spot on Instagram. The seed was planted, so I made it a point to check out Vivoli when I was in the Saint Croce neighborhood. There appeared to be 3 queues at Vivoli: one for the cafe/bistro, one for the gelateria, and one specifically for affogato. I think it was possible to get the affogato from the first queue, but I stood in the affogato only line just to make sure. The queue moved pretty quickly. I probably waited around 15-20 minutes to place my order, which I did on a self-serve automated kiosk. I gave my ticket/receipt to a barista after paying, and then she started working on my drink right away. The process of making the affogato was very fast, and it was fun to watch. I noticed that unlike a regular affogato back in the USA, which is typically one big gelato scoop, Vivoli fills half a cappucino sized cup with gelato and then adds scoops around the edges to form a square shape. I got pistachio, so the gelato gets dipped into chopped pistachio bits. (The pistachio bits did add a nice texture.) Lastly, fresh espresso was poured in. Vivoli had a counter that could fit about 3-4 standing persons. Other than that, there's no where to sit inside the affogato storefront. Mostly everyone else tried to find a spot outside to enjoy their affogato. Although I did enjoy my affogato, I didn't find it particularly different than one I've tried back at home. It was just the prettiest.
I got very lucky and there was a very short line when I visited (around 5pm on a thursday). They close around 6 so that is maybe why there was no one. If the espresso bar side is closed, you can go to the gelato side and they have the pistachio and orignal there as well. The full menu is only available at the espresso bar. I ordered the hazelnut and it was delicious. I still dream of this affogato. Smooth, rich, perfect mix of sweetness and bitterness. I do think this is worth a stop if you are in Florence.
Was so lucky to pass by this place and notice a lot ladies outside photographing and talking about it. Apparently it's tik tok famous for affogato! I had not had a chance to order an affogato since I arrived in Italy. I was always ordering espresso everywhere. Of course I jet inside to the quick moving line, maybe 10 people... and ordered the pistacio affogato not regular. To my surprise it was a scoop of pistacio gelato with coffee poured in the middle. Topped with a pistacio nut rim. It was amazing and so flavorful. I could have drank 10 more. I hadn't walked Florence since I mostly did day trips so I had just one. I will remember it forever, dream about it and added to my blessed and grateful list! This is a must visit place in Florence. The decor inside is pretty and they have pastries and sandwiches too Ciao Bella!
All in all it was worth the long line even in the sun. The espresso is strong and even though there's ice cream in it, it doesn't cut the strong flavor. Delicious and refreshing.
Decided to give this popular social media trend a try. It was insanely busy with multiple lines just from a social media post. Great that their business is doing well. In terms of the affogato, it's not worth the long lines. Tasted fine for the average coffee or gelato person. But if you like your coffee bold with deep characteristics, you might be disappointed as the massive rush tends to dilute the coffee draw by the barista. Espressos are not as rich. In addition, don't think their beans are of quality either. Collectively, it tasted fine as a combo, just not worth the heat, wait, and crowd. If you enjoy a lively pool of people with concert like ambience, this might be up your alley along with social media posting. Lower that expectation and you'll enjoy the vibe. FYI, they do not serve you through the window. You can do it yourself but that's putting you on the spot on why you are there.
Was worth the wait - and for what it's worth - only took 15 minutes on a Saturday even though the line may look intimidating. There are actually two lines / stores - one with all the options on the right and one with original and pistachio options on the left. Order on the machine if you are going into the multi-option store and present your ticket. Lots of options - we got the salted caramel and original (creme) and they were so good. Such an amazing combo with the espresso!
Had to go here because my wife wanted to go try their viral Affogato. Worth it! Espresso on ice cream works so well in the heat. Very fast service. Long line, but went pretty fast.
Our second time here. The first experience wasn't too bad of a wait as we enjoyed our espresso and coffee gelato after a late lunch in Florence. This last dine-in two years after, the wait was longer as Vivoli was now internet famous for their Affogato al Caffè. This is considered a must-try, as it has creamy vanilla or pistachio gelato "drowned" in a shot of freshly brewed Italian espresso. I highly suggest consuming this dessert by alternating bites of gelato with sips of espresso, rather than mixing it. We were able to find inside seating both times but be prepared to enjoy your frozen treats and hot beverages in the plaza of the Greek Catholic church across the street.

If you're in Florence and looking for authentic Affogato experience , Vivoli is an iconic stop that lives up to its reputation. We got the original flavor Affogato and the hype about it is spot on. Unlike some gelaterias, Vivoli doesn't display their gelato in towering, colorful heaps (which often signals artificial ingredients). Instead, the gelato is kept in traditional covered metal containers--always a good sign. The atmosphere is old-school, with a no-frills interior and a local feel. It's more about the quality of the gelato than the Instagram aesthetic, and honestly, that's refreshing. Prices are fair for the quality, especially in such a tourist-heavy city. Plan to go during off-hours ( not sure if there are one since the lines are always spiraling around) to avoid crowds and take your cup ( phone comes out , social media gets to know you were here, you take a pic or two) ( maybe you got gelato and not affogato) or cone to the nearby piazza to enjoy in peace though if you got it in their coffee cup please do return it back to the counter :) read more
We visited because my sister saw this place on Instagram -- which I instantly thought was a gimmick tourist trap. I was right. Their affogato was overly sweet and even though I ordered pistachio gelato, it tasted like vanilla. Aesthetically it's a cute little cup, but that's about all it has going for it. Much better gelato and coffee anywhere else in town. We didn't wait in the line but if there were a line, I would've been furious considering how bad the product was. read more
It's worth the hype. Is it worth the €9 I'm not sure. But I paid it twice. The regular goes for €6. Also, they have two lines, one for the affogato and one for the gelato. However, if you're sticking with regular or pistachio, you can order it in the gelato line. Because the affogato line can get reeeally long, but that's because there are other flavors to chose from. Service is like any other European place, take your order and they hand it over. If you speak Italian they may be a bit more chatty. Both places are tiny and not much seating space. You'll find people just sitting outside in the sidewalk. read more
Came here multiple times end of November to beginning of December of 2025 and the coffee experience was amazing. The coffee al banco is amazing. In addition, we tried the Affogato and it was delicious, tho a bit expensive about 9 euros. It was amazing experience and taste. However, I prefer the normal espresso as it would wake me up everyday to start exploring the city. Lines can be long, lines are shorter during early morning instead. So I'd recommend to prep ahead of time : ) read more
The affogato is famous for a reason: it is not only pretty as hell but also delicious. Honestly it is just espresso, pistachio gelato topped with pistachio nuts which you could easily make at home but who cares! The lines are LONG but move relatively quickly. We were in the line for 20 mins or so before we could order which wasn't bad at all. You can take a seat inside if available or take the ceramic cup outside to drink which is a great model in my opinion because it keeps the lines moving and they get lots of customers that way. There is a church right across the street and you could finish your affogato there while people watching. P.S. There is a non functional wine window that you could use as a photo op for your coffee. read more

Absolutely worth the hype. The espresso was delicious and paired so well with the gelato. We ordered two to share and we devoured them. We came within the first hour so the line wasn't too long and we had our affogatos quickly. The drink was so creamy and so yummy. Would love to come back again. read more

Such a fun place to grab an Affogato on a hot day! The place was busy but service was smooth! Pistachio for the win, delicious! read more
Vivoli Gelato is worth the buzz! We initially stopped by earlier in the day, but the line was wrapped around the block, so we decided to come back at night. Although the main gelato shop was closed by then, we were pointed to a small storefront next door where they were serving vanilla and pistachio affogatos. And honestly? It was incredible. The pistachio gelato was one of the best we've ever had super creamy, flavorful, and absolutely perfect with the espresso. Even with the limited menu, the quality and taste were amazing. Next time, we'll aim to come earlier for the full flavor lineup but what we had was so good, it still made the visit totally worthwhile. read more

While in Florence for vacation, we kept seeing Vivoli for recommended places to try. It's definitely vital for a reason! This was the best affogato we've ever had. From the delicious poured latte, to the tasty gelato with pistachios topped on top, everything was so good. There's always a line outside of the shop but it's definitely worth the wait! read more
Abnormal lines for normal affogato. The experience was pretty standard, an espresso poured into ice cream. Not bad but not special for the wait time. No indoor seating as the store is small, sit outside for some ice cream eating read more

Admit it: you've seen the Tiktoks of the affogato and want to know if it's REALLY that good. Spoiler alert: it is! We came here early Tuesday morning before making our way to the train station for our next stop. Even at 8am, there was a small line out the door. However, it moved fast, and yes, you can order the famous affogato in the morning! It was absolutely delicious. Taking bites of gelato dipped in espresso is heaven, especially when you get to the bottom and the espresso has gotten a little icy. We also had two chocolate croissants. Not the best we had, but they were good. This actually is a place that is worth the hype! read more
After being disappointed by a viral sandwich shop the day before, we were a little hesitant about trying Vivoli, but it totally lived up to the hype. We decided to go right when they opened at 8am thinking a) there won't be a line and b) affogato counts as breakfast because there is coffee in it. Well joke was on us because there was already a line formed when we arrived on Friday morning at 8:05am. Once they opened the doors the line moved quickly and we were elbow deep in caffeine and gelato by 8:20am. There is a small seating area in the back but that filled up pretty much right away so we enjoyed our affogato while standing outside. Both flavors were good but the pistachio is an absolute must in my opinion. read more

Typically I do not like coffee or espresso, but love gelato & heard how famous Vivoli is for their affogato so I gave it a try.. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was! Although the line was long, it went by pretty fast since you order at a kiosk & pick it up at the counter. My boyfriend & I split one, but we wished we would've gotten 2 because it was so good! There isn't really a place to sit down, but you can just sit on the steps outside.. Definitely coming back my next time in Florence. read more
Vivoli is definitely a tourist spot, but it's one you won't want to miss out on. We went before dinner because we happened to be in the area. As expected, the line for Vivoli wrapped around the corner, but the line moves quickly. There are two options for the affogatto: vanilla and pistachio gelato. The affogatto was pretty good. There is some indoor seating and the space looks very cozy, but in my opinion, it isn't worth waiting for a seat. read more
Food: Hands down best gelato I've had in my life! Service: There is a long line but it moves fast. Ambiance: There is seating inside and also outside. If you come in the morning, there are people having breakfast/coffee inside. There are also tons of spaces outside to sit by. read more

Amazing! The first bite all the way to the last was heaven. The ratio of gelato to espresso was just the right amount. Got the original and pistachio affogato and both did not disappoint. Line was a little out the door around 9am, but it moved fast. You order then wait to give your receipt to the barista. There was seating inside and benches outside. Highly recommend. read more

Is it worth the hype and wait? Yes. I tried the pistachio gelato + espresso and the hazelnut + espresso. The pistachio was out of this world..we went multiple times. The line wait is not too long and it moves quickly. I want to say that both entrances offer the gelato+espresso while one entrance sells the gelato + espresso dish exclusively. The staff is friendly and helpful. read more
Walked 25 minutes to get to this place and I'm so glad I did. The line was long, but it moved pretty fast and it was definitely worth the wait. I had the pistachio affogato, and it was absolutely amazinn flavorful, and the espresso poured over the gelato made for the perfect treat. If you're in Florence and looking for a Affogato, this is the place. I will be back next time I'm in Florence read more
Over the summer we saw "Somebody Feed Phil" at Radio City Music Hall. The question was asked: Of all the places you've been, what was the best thing you ate? Answer: Vivoli. Of all the places I've been, Vivoli was the best because of the fresh ingredients and the method of how they make their gelato. Phil? I'm goin' to Firenze! It actually wasn't like that, we had our vacation planned far in advance. It was nice to know that now we can plan to make a stop at Vivoli. I heard this place has gone viral and they'll be long wait times. (There wasn't) Walking in, it wasn't what I expected. I'm from New York and we have beautiful gelato places, Amorino gelato would be a great example. The interior is decorated with marble tables, very European. In Vivoli Firenze, I wasn't impressed. I was able to walk in and go to the register to pay. Once we paid, I walked over to the gelato case. Now this is one shot deal. I may never come back to this area so my gelato flavor choices needs to be solid. The four of us ordered and what was given to us wasn't anything fancy. The dining area, also, nothing fancy. Just a few tables. No marble anything. But then I took a bite. The creamiest gelato was served to me. The chocolate hazelnut gelato was made with a dark, rich chocolate. Sooo creamy, sooo dreamy, this really is next level gelato. If you look at my picture, there's no huge mounds of gelato in the case. Vivoli is serving the freshest product to the public. I wanted to go to Venice but I think I now need to come back for the affogato... read more

Ok, I get it now--Vivoli lives up to the hype. The affogato here is incredible, and honestly, it was the chilled cup that sealed the deal for me. That little detail made all the difference. The ice cream was perfectly creamy and cold, while the coffee was rich and piping hot. Together, it was just the right balance--a classic combination executed flawlessly. My wife, on the other hand, wasn't too thrilled with the panna cotta. The chocolate was a bit too rich for her, but honestly, I think it had more to do with the timing. It's hard to fully enjoy rich chocolate at 8 PM when it's 40 degrees outside. The affogato, though? That hit just right. Definitely worth a visit. We visited late in the evening, about 30 minutes before closing. There was still a line, but thankfully, it wasn't out the door. I'm not sure how I'd feel about waiting more than 30 minutes, but if you can avoid the peak times, it's absolutely worth it. Vivoli's reputation as one of Florence's best gelaterias is well-earned. No wonder it's all over Tik-Tok and Instagram and other social media. But as much as I love a well made dessert, I'd recommend timing your visit wisely to avoid the crowd, but either way, you'll be rewarded with a truly memorable dessert. read more
I tried the affogato here one morning and enjoyed it. It was sweet if you like that type of coffee in the morning. Quick service in January and easy to order, but it was more expensive than any coffee I've gotten here yet! I came back another night for gelato as it was close to a place I tried dinner and the service was worse. We did come in 5 minutes before closing which I understand is a close call but we were only getting gelato for take away so all she had to do was scoop them and send us off but she was quite rude. She forced us along to order our "ice cream" (her words not mine even though we know what gelato is as tourists...) and was rushed and unhappy. We were out of there quickly and there were still 15 people seated at tables after we left. The gelato itself was delicious. Best chocolate gelato I've tried thus far! read more
One of the best espressos I've had, and paired with the affogato made it absolutely divine to enjoy in the Florence heat. There's indoor seating for their customers looking to sit down for food, but not much outdoor seating for those who only order their affogato. The wait for their place is out of the door, but I'd personally say is worth it from how amazing the coffee and ice cream is. The ice cream is frozen into the cup and they add the espresso in after, which makes it a pretty cold drink if you mix it all up; for €6.5 the classic affogato is a bit steep but for the presentation and quality I would gladly pay it again! read more

From NYC straight to Vivoli is the smartest decision one can make. Queued up. Weather was ridiculously hot but the queue moved pretty quickly. Once you're inside it's go time. Order and pay first. You can order gelato, regular affogato 6€ or pistachio 9€. Pistachio and regular affogatos FTW. IG worthy. TikTok famous. MUST HAVE. read more

Stopped by in the morning and had to wait in line for about 30 min. We ordered the affogatos and they were a bit pricey but so worth it. The warm, slightly bitter coffee with the cold, sweet gelato is such a good combination. Saw this place on social media and it lived up to the hype. read more
Delicious, delicious affogato, only to be braved by the most patient and willing. I stopped by around 2pm on a weekday hoping to avoid a wait, but boy was I WRONG. The line was 25+ ppl deep, wrapping like a Shepard's crook from the entrance into the side alley. I quickly abandoned the plan and diverted my route. I tried my luck later that evening around 6:30pm. It had just stopped raining, and voila we were welcomed by no line and plenty of seating. They were out of hazelnut, so we got one regular affogato (6€) and one pistacho affogato (8€). Order/pay @ the counter, hand the slip to the barista, and wait for your drink. Once you're done, bus your cup to the counter. In and out within 20 min. Would I have waited 1.5 hrs in line for this...probably because I'm stubborn and a sucker for social media spots oops. The wait is understandably what it is since most people order the affogato, and that can't be taken to go. All in all, it's a very delicious (pricey) espresso x ice cream duo. They also have a little wine window between the doors, easily transformed into an affogato window ;) read more
So good we returned a second time not wanting a subpar experience! The espresso is smooth and the gelato silky and together perfection. We tried the cream and hazelnut. Both nice.. the cream hits in a delightful way and my favorite! Do not miss this! read more

So I went here because TikTok said they have an amazing affogato, and they weren't wrong. I needed a sweet treat, and this is the place. Now when you order, you have to give your ticket to the people making the drinks or you will be skipped! The affogato was perfect - I loved how creamy and sweet the gelato was; it mixed perfectly with the bitterness of the espresso. read more
I was influenced to come here by a TikTok, but it was worth it! The affogato was SO DELICIOUS! We tried the vanilla and the pistachio. I liked the vanilla better but they were both amazing. There was a very long line due to the popularity, so be prepared to wait. Also, you order and pay on a kiosk and then hand your receipt to the employees to make the affogato. The employees were super nice and friendly even with the long line of people they had to serve. I had another affogato elsewhere in Florence that was good, but not as good as Vivoli, which reinforced that this place really is worth the wait! read more
