Great products, cool CEO, great sales leadership, but over priced monitoring, often-times overly aggressive sales reps, sneaky over-the-phone contract renewals, intense contract terms (100% buy-out of 5 year contract at $70-$120MMR=), mandatory $99-$199 "activation fee", sketchy history forcing name changes (Safe, Apex, APX, Vivint, ARM, Smart-home pros), reps motivated to charge customer higher monitoring to make a couple extra bucks. We've been with Vivint since 2016. We just sold our house and moved . When I called to inquire about my options I was told how much it would to pay off the remainder of my contract and it was $2660! So I told them I would have to call them back. A few days later my husband called to make some inquiries they wouldn't even talk to him about pricing even though he had the passwords etc. Tonight I call to make arrangements to have equipment moved to new location and after the sales associate ( it's not her fault ) gives me some new prices for some new equipment!! Yea!! But wait, they're gonna check my credit!!?!? I just bought a house so it's all good, right... no... Vivints in house soft check is a NO because of the two previous phone calls we made!! I'm already a customer!! WTH? Well it's because they'll get more money out of me with the existing contract than switching me to their new Flex Pricing where I could pay off the equipment early and then just pay for monitoring. We have been with vivint since 2013 and have had one horrible experience after another with this unethical service company. We have had times where we had no ability to monitor our service and had an installer literally threaten us to not call the company and to just sign the contract which resulted in an extension that we did not want. We have been through every level of management at Vivint to try to get out of the contract that the installer had us sign without saying anything about the extension. After trying to get out of the contract, and having our equipment fail so often it became commonplace to call and report, they sent someone out to tell me the equipment was just fine. Today, we out sensor went off without warning and kept saying the door was opening to the point I couldn't even set my alarm, the company told me they would send me a replacement (because good news it was under warranty!) but I would have to do the the replacing myself unless I wanted to pay a fee and wait a week and a half. When I asked them to expedite the sensor, I was told I had to pay for shipping. So... while my system works incorrectly making my home less secure, I am having to pay for an equipment failure that vivint says it warranties. This company is truly the WORST. If you have any other options, please go that route. You too will be disappointed in the end and your home will not be secure as promised (by the way the contract states that Vivint doesn't have to having working equipment... way to go keeping your customer safe!). I will cancel the moment I can and never ever recommend this company to anyone. read more

Had to make multiple calls to resolve a simple request (Ordered additional security stickers for my home and a label to return cameras). They simply lied and said the items were sent TWICE! I wish I could give this company a "no star" or a "zero" rating. The system has been installed in my home less than 24 hours and I am already dissatisfied! The sales rep Diego, in my opinion is very unethical. After sitting in my driveway and talking with him for several minutes, I foolishly agreed to let him into my home. I TOLD him that I was not the property owner. He said no problem & asked me for the name of the property owner. My landlord is my sister and I have permission to get an alarm system installed, so I thought there was no problem giving him her name. I noticed while he was giving me his sales pitch that he kept looking at & typing on his iPad. I later discovered he was using a program that have him names and addresses of all my residents in my neighborhood. He, Diego told me that he was donating all this equipment to me because I lived on the corner & the property offered great visibility and advertisement for Vivint. And I would be asked to display their sign in my yard. He was offering me discounted prices that only he could offer. He would discount my installation charge, but I only had to pay for the first month of monitoring service and he would take a post dated check for the services. As he was preparing to call in the sale, Diego advised me that I must tell Vivint that I was the property owner, that I did not have an exist alarm service etc. We got on the phone and I answered the Vivint reps questions and I gave them my name. Diego and I finished up and miraculously, an installer just happened to be near and he came right over to do the installation. I explained to Diego that I did not currently have the money to pay for the installation. He told me no worries, he could take a post dated check. Diego and I discussed the need for door & window sensors, video monitoring, smoke/heat detection and medic alert (i have an epileptic adult dependent in my home). As Zach, the installer arrived Diego asked me to give him a check for $163.99. HUH? What happened to the free @ waived fees. Diego then said I could post date the check & he would give me $99.00 cash, he only had to wait on his supervisor to take him to the bank. But he needed to call in this post dated payment to Vivint. So he took my bank information and made a call to who I assumed was Vivint. As began the install I discovered Diego hadn't included the window sensors or the medic alert tag. So, I called Diego, he came back to my home, he denied making any such promises, but conceded and agreed to having glass break sensors installed and allowing me to have the medic alert tag. Zach completed the install, but left a mess where he'd drilled the holes. Zach did a "takeover" of the system from my previous alarm company (the service was not active). Zach removed the battery from the old system and cut the wires and left these items strewn about the home. The installation was completed, I got instructions on how to use the system, the sign was placed in the front yard & they left. Shortly thereafter, i left armed my system and left my home. Within 1 hour I was called twice. The motion detector has sensed motion in the front room. I have a cat & a dog. Both animals were in the home and both Diego and Zach interacted with my pets. Imagine my surprise to find out that I was not given a Vivint pet friendly motion sensor. The installer did not replace previous motion sensor, they merely did a "takeover" of the sensor, but did not adjust the sensitivity to account for the pets! And as if ALL this were NOT enough, I later discovered that Diego & Vivint created an account contract in the landlord's name instead of my name as well as used my bank information to establish an UNAUTHORIZED ACH draft. I called the friend 24/7 customer service dept and was told I would have to call back on monday after 9:00AM. I then called the sales rep only to have him, Diego scream & holler at me over the phone! This company corrupt! I did some checking today to find there are multiple states that have filed government actions against them! There are literally hundreds if complaints filed with various state BBB companys AND even though Vivint has it's offices in UT, they ARE NOT accredited with that local BBB! I have buyer's remorse. I wish I had done my research prior to signing up for this service, but THANK GOD I discovered these problems within the first 72 hours. I actually found this out in less than 24 hours! To be fair, I am 4 months into a 5 year contract with Vivint and have been happy with the system and service until today. I am now very nervous about the next 4 years and 8 months. After struggling with error messages and incorrect readings on my phone app while trying to open the garage doors, I called Vivint. Now, the fun really began. Keep in mind, every time you call, you have to go through the listening of the recording and the selection of numbers for your issue. Then, you have to wait for a human. Finally, I got Vanessa, who listened as I went through my issues and said she would transfer me to the "garage door team". Put on hold for about 5 minutes and got Ashley who said "Hi, this is Ashley" and then nothing else. I heard air. Stayed like this for 1-2 minutes, but finally hung up and called back. Go through the recording, the selection of numbers, the waiting and I get a male rep who listens to my re-telling of the issues and says he will transfer me to the "garage door team". On hold for 2-3 minutes and I hear "Hi, this is Ashely, is this ..." then, nothing. Call is gone, again. I can't believe it. Call back, yada yada, and get Mitchell. I explain that this is my third call, and that I have now been on the phone with Vivint for last 1/2 hr. He said he would stay on the line with me so I wouldn't get cut off or have the call dropped. Well, I'm put on hold and a female voice picks up and says "Is this Andrea?" And, I respond and keep talking before I realize I HAVE BEEN CUT OFF, AGAIN. This is going on 45 minutes, now. And, no one has even tried to call me back. I don't know if I can face calling back, but I have to get my garage door issues fixed. I look on the internet and try the chat option on the Vivint website. I spend 10 minutes typing out what happened with the garage doors, and the app, and then my 3 phone calls to the company. I express concern that I'm just going to be thrown back in the same loop. And, I get a message back suggesting I call their phone number. The same number I've been calling. I have no choice, so I call. For the 4th time. This time, I get Beau, (after the recording, the selection of numbers, the waiting), and he is very nice. He apologizes and I tell him he doesn't need to apologize, but, please, don't put me on hold and transfer me. Please find a way to get this fixed because the same thing keeps happening over and over. He patiently and politely apologizes, again, but says he has to transfer me to the garage door team because he can't help me. He puts me on hold and comes back and says he has Elizabeth, who "hasn't had any problems today." ?? I explain my issues to Elizabeth, who clearly doesn't care that I've spent nearly an hour trying to get this resolved. But, whatever; at least she's still on the line! She tells me it look like my signal is strong some days and weak on others. She asks me if I've gotten a new microwave (??) or use a baby monitor. I tell her no, and no, and it's been working fine up until today. Then, she tells me shes going to walk me through some diagnostics and all I'm going to have to do is get up on a ladder to unplug...and I say "I can't get on a ladder". And, Elizabeth just keeps talking. "I can't get on a ladder" I repeat. And, Elizabeth just keeps talking. "I CAN'T GET ON A LADDER" I yell. THAT got her to stop talking. And, she replies "You can't yell at me or I'm going to disconnect this call." I'm not kidding. She then proceeds to tell me I signed some "disclaimer" that says I can't yell at her. I tell her to connect me to someone who wants to help me. Elizabeth tells me she wants to help me, but I can't yell at her. I, again, ask to speak to someone else. She finally puts me on hold...for 9 minutes. At last, Brianna gets on the line and says shes a supervisor and how can she help me. AND, THE PHONE CALL CUTS OFF. It's been 65 minutes since the first call. I am crying in frustration now. I call back, yada yada, and get Colton. And, it's like a different company. He apologizes, sincerely, says what I've been subjected to by everyone else is "crazy" and assures me he will help me and not put me on hold. He did leave me a couple times, but assured me he was just putting his headphones down, not putting me on hold. He wrote up a work order and, while continuing to apologize, got me scheduled for a tech to come out SAME DAY. I was so grateful, but also physically and emotionally exhausted. Mitchell, the tech, actually arrived about 1 hr after I got off the phone with Colton, and, like Colton, it was like dealing with a different company. He was so polite, so patient, so apologetic for the actions of his co-workers. He assured me he wasn't leaving until not only my garage door issues were resolved, but he was sure my entire systems was working perfectly. Which, he did. What gives, Vivint? I just spent an hour and a half on the phone with a representative and then the supervisor. I had two homes with the vivint security system. One in NY and one in PA. I discontinued services in June 2019 and sold my house in PA in October. In May, I drove 116 miles to the PA house so the technician could tell me how to deactivate the system and unplug it so an alarm wouldn't go off during the open houses.In October the vivint technician made a mistake and removed the security system that I promised the new owners, I had to have vivint return the items back to the house. Apparently this could only be done if they reactivated the account so they can schedule the service call. This was done with the promise that the account would be closed the day after the technician service call. Mistake one......the account was never deactivated. With that being said, I now start to get automatic monthly debits for the PA house that remains not in use and unplugged for June, July, August, September, October, November and now December for $56.47. Wait, it gets better. My debit card documented for the PA home expired and I told them I wasn't going to update it since I no longer have the account. What does vivint do, they take the credit card that I have on file for the NY home and debit from that card. wait, still not done. I'm supposed to receive a $200.00 customer referral check since I gave them the new home owner information and was told that it was not really a referral, it was a take over and they will not give me the $200.00. Yes there is more, if you can believe it. Here it goes.....reminder that I still have the NY house while I deactivated my PA account in June. In October I received a phone call asking me if I wanted to extend my contract and receive a monthly discount by doing so, I said yes. Wouldn't anyone want to save money? I was told today that I said yes to extending the contract of the PA house and that's why they will not reimburse me. So when I only have one house, located in NY, vivint calls me and extends my contract on a house that I don't own and because they have a recording that says I said yes, I am responsible. I am sick to my stomach with the ethics and unprofessional management of this company. The BBB and Consumer Affairs will be hearing from me. I want everyone to know that they should consider other companies before they receive the same treatment that I have received over the last several months. All I have to say is that this is the worst company ever and I don't know how they are still in business! I feel dumb for ever signing up with them. Vivint sucks. It's hard to understand how Best Buy markets this crap out of their stores. Three months after I purchased a security system they are still not done with installation, for a variety of excuses. The first tech that came to my home said the salesperson had lied to me. He talked me out of my purchase after I had already paid for it. His behavior was so strange that I though he might be on methamphetamines and I called the police. Then Vivint management came calling and I regret they convinced me to try another tech, claiming the first one was having personal problems. The second tech then also talked trash about his company's sales people and said they didn't understand the company products. Is this really what you want to her when you pay for a highland security system? This second tech couldn't finish the job and a third tech came out. He was very knowledgable and showed me how some of the electrical wiring that had been installed outside my home was not designed for outdoor use and would need to be redone. He also confirmed that the salesperson had sold me several hundred dollars of equipment which was unnecessary. I tried to return the unnecessary equipment Vivint and BestBuy customer service ran me around for days and ultimately I had to file a dispute through my credit card company, which I won by documenting how two sales people had lied (they lied to me in writing!). The customer service people actually tried to sell me a multi-year contract without addressing my concerns about the unnecessary equipment. What self-serving scum!!!! I did not do diligent research into Vivint, instead I trusted Best Buy's reputation. Doing research now, I see the salespeople have a reputation for pushing things that customers can't use; perhaps that's the way their incentives are set up. Customer service isn't bad and the speed is second in my area only to Comcast. But the price is cheaper than Comcast. They claim 100mb down and upload speed. But it's closer to high 30'smb down and low 60'mb up. The major issue I have is that the service goes down about every 2 weeks. Word of Caution... I have had Vivint Internet services for just over a year now. During that year, Vivint has been out to install new hardware, completed firmware updates and rebooted the system. Why.... Because I signed up on a plan for 50 mbps for a set price and I was not receiving the download rates promised. . Today I checked my internet speeds and I am running about 35 mbps. I made my 5th call to Vivint to see what needed to be done to either cancel the contract (which I have 11 months left) or get the problem fixed. What I was told is that the contract I signed up on stated "Up to 50 mbps" and that the 35 mbps I was receiving was an "acceptable rate". I asked if I could pay 15% less on my bill since I was receiving 15% less of what was advertised and I was told that I could as well as go to collections for the remainder of the bill. The equipment is ok but the salesman lied to me about the cost of the equipment. They ended up charging me $2400 for equipment costing around $1000. I am a senior citizen so I asked the salesman "what happens if I find I can't afford it?" He said we come and get the equipment and that's it. Well, I am trying to cancel now and they say I can't. Not only charged me $1400 over the price of equipment, I am also stuck with it. I was on the phone over 2 hrs. yesterday and it did not get me anywhere. All I got was a headache from talking to 20 different people and all saying there was nothing they could do. They admit that some of their salesmen lie to get a sale but don't you think if they know their salesmen lie to customers they would make it right when they find out about it. The answer is no. I have been with Vivint for about two years, I have been happy with the personnel's performance concerning response to (thankfully) false alarms, they are courteous, professional and sincere in their efforts. They are the antithesis of the sales department (who led me astray from the start) and the Customer Loyalty department personnel who dismissed my complaint completely. The major flaw in their system is that if you live somewhere that experiences weather that creates power failures you find out too late that the service shuts down within a few hours of one such failure. The failure to address such issues before you sign up is in my opinion as good as lying. For instance my Salesman led me to believe, that if I signed up for a five year commitment I would be given a long term fixed price, he failed to mention the power failure issue, the rise in bandwidth use (that in some cases costs one more depending on their internet supplier) the bandwidth is eaten up by the Cameras they push for your safety, the fact that you must pay for site service after the installation unless you buy an additional program for services at a monthly fee. You must take legal action to change what the Sales Department cons you into signing because they work on commission. Customer Loyalty is from you to them, not the other way around. In summary approach all agreements with caution and be sure to ask questions about even the smallest issue, MAKE SURE YOU GET WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD, IN WRITING BEFORE YOU AGREE TO THE SERVICE! read more

If you defer your service it adds on the end of your contract and if you find someone to take it over they will not offer them the same rates (much higher.) Now we are stuck paying for service that we don't even have since we sold out house. We informed that sales person that came to our door that we would be selling within the next year and they said in the event that happened the contract was null and void. I have spent 4+ hours on the phone phone through multiple conversations and only to be treated rudely without any answers. We are still paying on it even though it's disconnected!! When I asked for the address to send written correspondence I was told "if you have a lawyer they know where to send it." Point proven. This company is a complete scam. I thought Vivint was great until I sold my house and moved. I planned on moving the security system with me but the new owners wanted to keep the security system. I followed the instructions from Vivint to transfer ownership. Unknown to me the new home owners weren't successful with taking over the contract and had problems with the system not working so they threw away the equipment. Since the transfer wasn't successful I have been paying the monthly fee for no equipment and no service. I understand the importance of contracts but feel like extraordinary circumstances deserve some leeway. I really feel safe having Vivint as a alarm service provider, they are excellent in responding when the alarm goes off. I would give it a 5-star in that aspect but the only reason I give it a 3-star is because when you need to cancel for valid reasons such as lost of employment and have to decide whether to put food on your table or pay for an alarm system, Vivint won't give you a break. They would charge you the whole amount of the remainder of your contract as a penalty, not like other providers that is indeed a small amount as an early termination fee in comparison to the fulfillment of the contract. I don't know if Vivint smarthome is any good. But I do know one of their drivers was making unsafe lane changes today in a little white car in north Orem, and cutting across multiple lanes of traffic in a reckless way. Companies that assign people to drive in company cars really need to take immense and profound steps to impress upon their drivers that they are essentially a motorized billboard, advertizing for good or for bad. Vivint Smart Home might be a good service, but their drivers are a terrifying menace. read more

The actual service works well. Customer service, however, is lacking, to say the least. We had a part malfunction and waited weeks for someone to be available for the repair. The service tech, who was actually very professional, had to come back yet again as there was a part shortage as this particular part was failing for many customers. I had to call in to update payment information because their website was down at the time and was transferred to three different people due to "internal rules," insecure connections, etc. Bottom line, when the service works, it works well but hope you don't need any of their "support." read more

What a joke. I have worked in door to door sales for 6 years and like to think I can trust other salesman but these guys are willing to do whatever it takes to get a sale, even if it means lying. The sales rep told me that He would give me $500 in order to pay for my equipment so that he could get a $5,000 bonus from the company. He also told me i can cancel after he gets his "backend check" in February and that all my equipment would still work and function normally but without the monitoring system. Now that its February im finding out my equipment is WORTHLESS without paying the monthly monitoring fee of $54 a month (They offered to discount it to $44 with $150 of free credit if i extended 3 years). I wont even be able to use the app to see my doorbell camera like a "Ring doorbell" or others like it. The only place the cameras will show their feed is on the panel. If your looking for home security just go buy a nest system and dont deal with these guys. read more

I've had no issues with the product. Installed late 2012. Original install went very smoothly. All sensors work without exception. Control panel had a partial failure affecting smartphone arming. Service desk was responsive, listened and made a point of understanding the problem. Entire panel was replaced at no cost in 48 Hours. Smartphone app works very well. UNBELIEVABLY TERRIBLE- I've had my alarm system for 3 plus years and I must say I wouldn't recommend Vivint to my worst enemy. When i originally signed up for the alarm I was told the equipment and install was absolutely free. Well the equipment and install is anything but free. In fact little did I know I was charged over $3000 for the equipment and install. I called customer service and was told that because I didn't have it in writing and had signed a contract I had no recourse. Ok that was a hard pill to swallow but, I realized that was my bad for not having it in writing. To add insult to injury my equipment keeps going off line constantly which causes me to call customer service for help. Well that is only half of my issues. Next my alarm constantly goes off falsely for no reason at all. I have had multiple technicians out to fix the problem and replace the panel. Still nothing. So you can imagine my reluctance to set the alarm. Then to top off all my problems the batteries on my door keep dying after 1 to 2 weeks. I have purchased batteries from multiple locations as well as tried alkaline and lithium batteries only to have the same results. I cannot begin to tell you how many phone calls I have placed to Vivint to have my issues fixed and had little success. I have asked multiple times to get out of my contract or have my money refunded due to all the issues and each time I'm told they will get it working. Well i'm now years into this fiasco and have nothing but a lighter bank account. So in a nut shell I can honestly say I highly recommend NOT going with Vivint unless you like paying for something that doesn't work. read more

JUST SAY NO TO VIVINT!! I bought the system for 2 reasons. Reason #1- I wanted to be able to control my thermostats from my phone (my house has 3 thermostats). Upon installation, 2 out of 3 thermostats were defective and needed to be replaced immediately. The 3rd one has now failed as well. They are unreliable. Reason #2- I didn't want to be robbed. This is a false sense of security (pun intended) since the only people who are likely to rob you are Vivint themselves. With other failures and short comings in the system (I won't list them all here), you will NEVER be able to escape the contract. They don't hold up their end of the agreement and the system is ineffective, but you are still expected to keep your end of the bargain by paying the monthly fee and fulfilling the terms of the contract :( If the camera goes off line, you have to involve their customer service personnel to bring it back on line. Eventually, you end up giving up and just forgetting the camera altogether. Beside the Yelp (and other) reviews, check their history with the BBB before you sign anything. They should dedicate themselves to sell shoes because they are very bad at detecting thieves that come to your house, but they can steal from you like they did with me. they took $1283 dollars from my credit card without my permission, they are the real thieves ii should get another security system company to watch them 24/7 LOL . Lengthy read, basically don't feel pressured or bother with the door to door sales reps. Take some time to do some research online and decide if Vivint is for you. Wish I checked Yelp while the sales rep gave me his pitch. Anyway, here's my step by step experience with Vivint. I've had multiple Vivint sales reps knock on my door even with a "No Soliciting" sign left in plain view throughout the last few years. From questioning my current home security with "I see you're with so and so, here's why Vivint is better!" to Vivint Solar reps requesting to stick signs in my yard. Well, earlier this month I was working in my driveway when a rep came up. I've been looking into upgrading smart door locks and a doorbell so I decided to finally give one of these guys some time. One thing that bugged me was the whole "all the equipment is free so this is an excellent deal" gimmick they like to tell. Equipment isn't free, you get a loan for it and you have 60 or so interest free months to pay off which makes it appear minimal. They like to sell you on the idea that it's like buying an iPhone which is charged each month to your bill so you "won't even notice. Basically free right?!" I had to work a bit to get a finalized price on the equipment and verification there's no interest on the equipment loan. For 2 smart door locks, a single two-way doorbell, 2 glass break sensors, a motion detector and 2 window sensors it came out to be roughly $700. It's also $39.99 a month for continual home security coverage with Vivint. After a quick approval process and a constant reassurance of "this is a trial, you won't be charged anything if you decide it's not for you" I decided why the hell not. Bam! Sales rep forgot to mention you require the smart panel too, nothing works without it, extra $600. They already approved me and ran my card. I felt scummy and cheated but it's a trial right? Asked the rep one more time "I won't be charged any uninstallation fees or another penny if I decide not to keep any of this stuff?" Absolutely not my friend! I'm a man of my word! Okay.. Installation tech arrived in a few hours and got everything installed. The tech was excellent and informative. 3 days pass and the 2-way doorbell starts having issues where it was consistently missing 7+ hour windows of any motion every day. I even held my dog up to the device and cradled him around. Didn't pick it up. I decided to cancel and send a notification of cancellation while I was still in the trial period. Received a call the next day from the sales rep going on about making things right and all of his plenty of satisfied customers. So I requested an extended trial (10 extra days after working with a tech) and worked with a tech on July 3rd. Still the same issue and the tech said he'll check with his manager to see if I can get an upgrade on my equipment since it's not working correctly. Didn't hear anything on July 4th, understandable and I was glad I wasn't bothered on the holiday. I missed a single phone call the next day (July 5th) and immediately received an email stating.. "We have made numerous attempts to contact you at the telephone number you provided to arrange for the removal of the alarm system. Because you have not responded to any of our attempts to contact you, we are notifying you of our intention to hold you responsible for the cost of the equipment listed on your contract, $1,303.53" Spoke with the sales rep again who went from very transparent and friendly to extremely aggressive and "insulted" that I'm not giving him more chances to "make things right." He went on about his 94 streak of sign ups without a cancellation and other things that I just didn't care about since Vivint has been disappointing. He replied with "if you want to cancel right now, I'll have a tech come out to uninstall everything today, no charge. I just ask that you take time to think about it." I told him I'll let him know after the weekend. I informed him that I still wish to cancel on Monday (July 9th.) I asked if he could arrange for a tech to remove the equipment or is that something I have to do. He just replied with "it's all you." Had to call the Loyalty Department, rep I worked with was straightforward and easy to work with. We scheduled a time. Tech came and uninstalled everything very quickly. Very friendly and did a solid job. I was refunded my first payment on the equipment ($21) and I found out I have to eat the single $39.99 monthly fee for my week and a half experience with shoddy equipment. Oh and I have some holes in my wall from the panel. Fun stuff. Don't be like me and think "why the hell not" when a rep is selling you on how it's a no commitment free trial. You may end up severely disappointed, out $40 and have some holes in your wall too. Anyway, that's my honest, overly detailed experience. Teach me to trust Vivint sales reps. read more
